It was 8:30 am the Wednesday after Memorial Day and although I had seen this place featured on CNN and other reviews cautioning that this place ran out of pastries in 2 hours, i thought I would try my luck and call the place to see whether he thought there'd still be pastries in 20 minutes (how long of a drive I was away). He said he thought that pastries would still be there, so I got in the car and started driving. To my surprise, there was no line once I got there and I ordered 4 pastries for me and 4 more for friends, each order costing around $15 and our cashier being super helpful about each of the pastries and letting us know what were some customer faves. They were completely out of almond croissants but had most everything else. We ended up getting a mixture of chocolate croissants, chocolate and almond croissants, a croissant, a fruit pastry, and a Kouign Amman pastry (it has sugar and salted Caramel and was suuuuper crispy). We loved everything here and the only complaint was from a friend who said that the chocolate croissants could have used more chocolate. But I thought everything was super tasty -- flaky, crispy, and soft at the same time. This shop deserves all its praises and I'm glad that it exists! Best French bakery I've been to on this side of the Atlantic! Showed up at 7:30 AM on a weekday, and there was already a line ...and once I tasted their pastry, I knew why! This is a no-frills authentic establishment with a wonderful and unique selection of baked goods. World class baguettes! I recently tried the olive bread, the baguette au charbon (charcoal), pain brioché and the sourdough, all fantastic avec une mention spéciale pour la baguette au charbon. What a cute French bakery with delicious options. I was advised by a colleague to try this bakery while in town and it was closed. I was so set on trying it that I drove 40 min today just to get it. The man behind the counter was very familiar with his regulars and extremely polite. Top-class customer service that I haven't had in a while. Tip: This place opens from 7 AM to 11 AM. If you snooze, you will lose the opportunity to try their variety of pastries. I walked in at about 8:30 and all their fruit pastries and regular croissants were gone but almond/chocolate croissants and baguettes remained (but going like hotcakes). Ordered: pain au chocolate with almonds: the best croissant I've ever had, crunchy almond slices on top with the creamy almond paste inside with rick dark chocolate oozing out Tip: there's plenty of powdered sugar on these things so don't breathe in when going to take a bite! kouign-amann: looked a little darker than I've seen at other bakeries but still wanted to try it out, the caramelization was so intense, you definitely want to eat this with tea or coffee, sugar turned into glass and this pastry is much crunchier than the croissant No pictures because I was too hasty in eating. Pain au Chocolat was delicious. The dark chocolate used complement the light sweetness of the pan. The pan was airy and light as you can see in my picture. I can eat 10 of them and not feel guilty. My friends highly recommended this place and they were right. There was a line waiting outside before the store opened. They made a limited amount each day; once sold out, they were closed for the day. I bought several to go and my car smelled great. I only got to tried Pain au Chocolat and Pain au Chocolat aux Amandes; shared the rest with my friend. Pain au Chocolat was delicious. The textures included the soft cake like interior with the crunchiness from the caramelized sugar. Yes yes and yes! French bakery that is a must to try if you can pull yourself out of bed to get in the line before 7am! Yes that is right, they open at 7am and they will sell out by 11am usually. The pastries, bread, everything is fresh made that morning and so delicious. I was so excited to try this place I forgot to take photos. After seeing the great Yelp reviews and reading about the owners, we had to give it a try. I went again the following morning for more--everything was that good! The baguettes, both traditional and charcoal varieties were perfect. I haven't had a better croissant outside of Paris. It was my second time visiting. Both times I was dropping shirts off at the cleaners next door. I saw a lady coming out with 2 loafs of bread so it appeared. I assumed it was open. So, I went in. I was looking at the different sandwiches in the case. Which they didn't have my first time because they ran out. They only had a few Quiches left that day. A gentleman said I will be right with you. The owner, Barnaby, is a super friendly guy and amazing baker. We were visiting the area for a week and popped by the store on a Tuesday (a day they are typically closed, along with Mondays). He graciously took our order for the following day and put together a wonderful assortment of croissants and other meticulously crafted goodies. Everything was great, including the charcoal baguette he suggested we try. It is very difficult to find bakeries in the US that understand French techniques. I'd rank this bakery right up there with La Boulangerie in Wellfleet, MA and Sift in Mystic, CT. It's definitely worth making a trek to come here if you are anywhere in the vicinity. The best advice I can give is to call the day before in the afternoon to place an order for the next day. That way, you get to skip the line and head right to the window on the side to collect your order. read more
