If you stroll into the shop anytime past 3pm, the entire store smells intensely of cleaning supplies. It's so pungent that their bags and supplies have soaked in the chemical smell. So if you buy loaves of bread at the end of the day, it all seeps into the bread itself. I tried telling the employee that all of my bags had a sick lemon cleaning scent but he didn't believe me. He said it's only the store itself that smells, not the food. Well buddy, it's so pungent in the entire store, and assuming they clean that way every single day, it gets seeped into their supplies, be it the flour, the bags, or their gloves. I appreciate their cleanliness, and it's unfortunate. It's not like the service is bad. It's not like the bread quality's bad. I haven't been to this bakery in a long time, so now they have sandwiches, fruit parfait, more breakfast pastries, n more choices on rolls n different kinds of flavored loaves of bread. I ended up with a chocolate croissant, flaky n surprised with chocolate inside. Yummmm because some don't have chocolate inside just decoration on top. Thank to too good to go for my very first visit to Le Boulanger! I know they are famous for their great tasting sandwiches and foods. but more so their amazing bread and bakery! I have never personally gone into the store but have tried their catering items from work and other parties. Happy to see that I actually got to see inside as well. They have a large area that you can be seated at for your perfect paired meal. For the pick up I was provided a handful of pound cakes and 1 giant loaf of white bread unsliced. Service was great and fast. There were a few people in line after it was my turn the rep provided me my bag and I was on my way. the quality taste in the food was great and so flavorful! Vegetarian/vegan reviewer: I've tried the Mozzarella, tomato and pesto salad and it was pretty good. It had some glaze, crunch, tomatoes, yummy mozzarella chunks and maybe a few diced cucumbers. My only complaint was the salad had too much of spring mix and very few cherry tomatoes/cucumbers-really liked the crunch of the kroutons though. I really liked the salad combo as it tasted like healthy caprese. Came with a bread on the side, so it was a decent fill for lunch. I would recommend this salad :) I've tried their snickerdoodle cookie and wouldn't recommend as it was too sweet. Also got their bowl of lentil vegetable in a rich tomato broth, wow the flavors robust and packed a punch without heat. I haven't been to this particular café in such a long time and it's perfectly on the corner in downtown Los Gatos! I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a digital menu with rotating pictures and a paper menu. I can also hold as well as a QR code this particular location is on the corner and has an abundance of seating. The server was relatively quick, and there were at least four employees in the back, wearing gloves as they made sandwiches. I appreciated how fast they worked, and how clean the cashier, kept the open dining area. There were also tables outside for people to sit in, but it was rather warm this particular day, and everybody seemed to be inside. I loved my chicken chipotle sandwich I believe it also had avocado and I was able to add spinach and lettuce to this particular hot sandwich and it was so filling and delicious. I will look for a picture because I swear I took one! Lol they're mild coffee seemed a bit too strong for me, but I have a very weak stomach for acidity and coffee. I need to leave a 2 or even 1 star to get the attention of the owners perhaps. Someone who can do something about this. I have gotten food from here twice in the past month, and both times, there is a strong taste of what seems like dishwasher soap or some cleaning chemical in the food. For a place to have a good reputation, this kind of thing should not be 1) a thing and 2) a repeated thing. I tried this location thanks to Too Good To Go. It was my first time trying this app and I screwed up because I didn't pick up on my designated time. The person at the front was so nice and gracious and gave me a new surprise bag anyway even though I don't think they would get their share from the app. I was so grateful. The bag consisted of various pound cakes, marble, blueberry, and banana nut, baguettes, and dutch crunch bread. I was able to share the plentiful with friends at a beach picnic and they loved the flavors and quality of each item. The service alone had me but the taste of their breads and pastries just took it to another level. Great for a quick lunch, right in downtown Los Altos and within walking distance of my office. It's becoming my new favorite place to grab like a sandwich or soup. Their clam chowder is pretty good too. The cool thing was I found out that they have a rewards program that you can earn points towards free food. Yay! Count me in! Nice casual spot. Food used to be good for the price, but it's gone downhill. Turkey in the turkey/cranberry sandwich is what I refer to as "turkey bologna." It's some form of deli meat that probably started out as real turkey, but lost all taste in the conversion process. Container of coleslaw amounted to 3 spoonfuls. Pound cake used to be pretty good. Service. The four people that are here don't know what they're doing. Customers are complaining about their orders not being processed, their food order wrong, etc. I was overcharged. On Mothers Day, they had a special of buy one coffee or tea and get one free. I realized it after I had paid and told the cashier. He said the iced tea was not included. I showed him the sign posted at the door and he said his manager said it was not included. I told him that they were engaging in deceitful advertising and I would report them. He said he'd refund me the $5.00 to the credit card. We'll see if that happens. The service provided by these people is deplorable. Included in this group of four people is the store manager. I trust the owner will read this review and agree that something needs to be done. Either hire competent people who know how to run this type of food establishment, shut down the place or sell it to someone who knows how to run a business like this. After the Le Boulanger near my flat closed, this became the nearest location. I am not a big fan of high end sandwich joints but managed to come here at least once and it was really worth the price. Back then I was a person who eats a lot and the price of a sandwich meal here was just enough to satisfy my hunger. Who knew? Even with the expensive prices it's still very satisfying. I am guessing this location is doing well due to the fact that it's located in a very affluent community. I like how they also have very delicious drinks ranging from coffee to fresh juice. I seemed to really enjoy the turkey cranberry sandwich. It not only has great flavor but also smells good too. The bread was very smooth and very easy to chew, which is always good. If you are ordering bake goods, turn to your right! If you're dining in, order front center. And... when you're order is ready, turn to your left to pick-up your order! LOL :p You can't beat their location especially being on the corner of Main St @2nd with cute outdoor seatings to boot!! There are plenty of two hour public parking, located in the middle of 2nd St. A whole row of them, all for free!! They can get packed during lunch hours from my experience, however; if you dine in here during late afternoons, you may have the whole place all to yourself! What a treat!! Bland food, not very attractive salmon sandwich and pretty tasteless. A 15 minute way for that makes me think going twice there. Plus the smell inside is not pleasant (been several times before and each time I tell myself it would be the last because it does not smell as the nice French bakery they are trying to depict they are. I have lunch at Le Boulanger about twice a week and I really like the sandwiches and salads. I generally get the California Fresh which is 630 calories for the whole sandwich. It consists of a Dutch Crunch Roll, breast of turkey, avocado, jack cheese, red onion, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and dijon. It also comes with a 1/2 pickle and a side of chips. Mmmm. My other favorite sandwich is the "Classico" which is 570 calories. It consists of Ciabatta bread, breast of chicken, provolone, roasted peppers, baby greens, tomato and vinaigrette. It also comes with a 1/2 pickle and chips. I think the food is great. The service is strange. Some days the service is amazing and sometimes it is so-so. One of my favorite things about Boulange is the rewards card they have. You can sign up online and whenever you buy a sandwich you get a point. After a few visits you get a free cookie. After that you get free lunch. Yay! read more

As soon as I saw the French name (The Baker), I looked for parking and walked two blocks on a cold (53 degrees) night, very excited about discovering authentic French food at this "bakery." Unfortunately, there was nothing French on the menu. Lots of Italian and Cuban sandwiches. The only French thing was the pain au chocolat and that is not so much a boulangerie (bakery) item as it is a viennoserie (sweet bread bakery) item. When I asked for the pain au chocolat, the cashier looked at me like she had never heard of pain (bread) before (at a French bakery!). So, I said chocolate croissant and she got it. Unfortunately, the chocolate croissant was cold and hard as a rock. I'm used to soft, buttery, and warm croissant. I threw it away after a bite and it was a waste of more than three bucks. I wasn't going to eat something that wasn't amazing though. Unfortunately, when you've experienced much better, it's hard to continue with something subpar.
