I can't say enough good things about this place. My dog was in dire need of a hair cut and this was the closest place that had an opening. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. Nelson is absolutely amazing. He took the time to get to know my dog and put him at ease prior to me leaving. Million was ready ahead of schedule. He looked so adorable and smelled so good. His coat was so smooth and soft!! Million (who is terrified of groomers) was happy and wagging his tail when I arrived to pick him up. Nelson handed me Million's report card and a bag full of treats. Not so happy with the job done on my Maltese. We found his body hair is all choppy and we got to fix it ourselves after we went home. It's not worth the money we paid. We will go to other pet stores for our baby's grooming next time. read more

Nelson is one of the happiest, nicest people I know. He seems to genuinely love animals. My little nervous chihuahuas don't seem to mind visiting his shop and that says a lot. I have to say, thank goodness for people like Nelson. I've taken my dog "princess" to several groomers and all were not successful with my dog. Princess have been traumatized by previous visit to the groomers and no matter what I do she just hates groomers. I took her to Nelson for the first time today and I can say my experience was great. Nelson was a great change of pace after trying the crummy Petco down the way. We have a feisty German Shepherd, Mina, who is incredibly well trained but still needs a pinch collar in some situations - like being held in one place for more than 1 minute and not allowed to fetch or herd something. No silly bows or handkerchiefs for us, but I think he can suit up your pup if uber accessory coordination is what you need. Mon petite bebe comes out smelling fresh and without any overly perfumy or musky scents and he gets the glands, ears and nails tidy too. read more

My miniature schnauzer came out looking and smelling good! They even give me advices on ticks/fleas control. I've been taking my dog Lucky here for quite some time now and can honestly say Nelson and his team are amazing. It is so easy to make appointments and if you can only pick him up at a certain time they will work with your schedule. Every time I bring Lucky and pick him up he looks amazing. They cut his hair perfectly and he smells amazing. I love the fact that Nelson uses specially formulated shampoo for each dogs needs. The fact that they do his nails, anal glands, shampoo and cut, and ear cleaning for only $55 is amazing!!!! Nelson has groomed my Yorkie a few times and I will not go to any other groomer but Nelson! I would have never thought my dog would ever look forward to going to the groomer but he does! After a few too many really bad haircuts from Petco, we decided to do some serious searching for a new groomer for our pup Lucy. The yelp reviews were great, so we decided to give it a try. Result = really clean, nicely cut, good smelling pup! Wow! We also like the fact that Nelson is very knowledgeable about products and other dog grooming items and isn't pushy to sell what he has in the store. I brought my old corgi here after hearing about the place through Yelp. With all the rain & a recent trip out to Fort Funston, Kirby desperately needed a bath. The place is very well lit & immaculate & after meeting Nelson, I knew my dog would be in good hands. He was very professional, and took the time to listen to my concerns & answer my questions. Kirby came out looking incredible- his fur was super soft & he smelled great! Nelson opens one Sunday a month & seems very flexible for appointments. Preston HATES getting his nails clipped but Nelson was able to do a great job on my terrified dachshund despite his thrashing and squealing. Customer service goes a long way with me and I got the best of it here. Nelson was kind and answered my questions clearly. I felt that he cared for my dog as if Toby (dachshund wirehaired terrier) were his own. Found this place next to where I tan and get my nails done. I used to take my dog to Petco to get his hair cut but now I'd rather go to Le Chien. The owner is actually the old ex head groomer at Petco, who broke off to do his own thing. Plus I'd rather support the smaller business. They do a great job, will dye your dogs hair, and are friendly. That's all I need in a groomer. read more

What a relief. Took my sweet little yorkie there for the first time today and it was great. Recently moved to the area, he had gotten his first bay area cut elsewhere and it was bad. Nelson is really exceptional with what he does. I was a bit concerned initially bringing my 5 month old puppy to get groomed since I am not very successful in getting him to let me trim his nails, clean his ears. Two hours after taking my puppy to Nelson, he is as clean and neat as he can be. And best of all, my concern is not a concern anymore. Le Chien Fortune is very clean, friendly, and just awesome all around! By the time you walk in, Nelson greets you right away with a smile even though it might take him a minute or two to realize you stepped into the salon. On most Saturdays, the salon gets pretty busy, so I wouldn't blame him for not always standing in the front to approach you when you walk in :) From what I've noticed, the dogs can never contact each other because when they are tied,, they are tied to different hooks which is really good. I don't need to worry about any of the dogs being aggressive or bitting off each others' heads! The dogs come back home smelling, looking, and feeling great! PLUS, Nelson always has a report back for my dogs' experience so I know what went right and what went wrong. Because I rescued my dogs from the Peninsula Humane Society, they have been abused and so sometimes they have accidents in the salon. Sorry about that :) Anyways, 5 STARS! Thanks for everything! Will not come back for grooming and bath. My dog went to groom and bath in June... after he got home couple days... his skin got more then 30 red pumps .. I went to doctor... doctor said he got skin infection from the groomer... probably the equipment that they use have bacteria. read more

Not really impressed. Nelson is such a nice guy--very friendly and loves animals. Not sure if it was him or someone else who groomed my Aussie shepherd mix but didn't see much of a difference. My pup was still a little mangy and his hair was cut very choppy. I've taken him to different groomers who have all done a great job making my pup look neat and polished...he smelled nice though but that was about it. I really wanted to like this place but I'm don't think I'll be back here for a while. read more

Took our dog today to get groomed. Don't let the high rating on yelp fool you it's his friends and family giving him good reviews. Anyway dropped him off in the morning picked him up around noon he was a hot mess. Even my aunt asked what did you do to him? He looked almost the same as he did when he came in he clipped his nails trim the hair around the paws but his hair was butchered uneven and choppy. You can tell he wasn't dried with blow dryer I think he used a kettle dryer because his hair was not straight it was frizzy. Also before he brought out our dog he charged us first $55. Hot mess! DO NOT COME HERE if you really love your dog. If you don't care and have $55 to waste go ahead waste your money honey. Anyway we had made an appointment at Petco in Tanforan and after seeing our dog and hearing our story they gave us a special rate and were seeing them tomorrow. We've gone to them before and they have done a good job in the past I guess we just wanted to see if there were better groomers. It made me appreciate Petco groomers more and once again reminded me ratings on yelp mean nothing! Except for this one star rating for this place is well deserved. read more

We took our two dogs to have a bath and a pawdicure today. As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted by Nelson the owner. He took the time to let the dogs get familiar with him so I could feel comfortable before leaving them for a few hours. When I returned, the dogs, were happy, clean and smelled so good! It made all the difference when comparing this grooming facility to others we had been to to have the owner/operator treat us so nice. so, our little pup was way, WAY overdue for a grooming (i should've taken before and after shots). anyway, so i went to the yelp page for pretty paws, which is where he normally went, to confirm business hours. unfortunately, i came across the incredibly awful reviews and had that mother's intuition telling me that it was time to look for a new place. did a little yelp searching again and found le chien fortune! i mean there was only one bad review and nelson, the owner, commented on the situation, which i always find to be helpful because it shows they care about their reputation and customers. so, i booked an appointment for the next day... he was very kind on the phone and told me it would be $48 for a mini schnauzer cut (so, $60 with tip). i forewarned him that he has the typical schnauzer temperament and he said that's fine and if there was something dusty would not be putting up with, he would stop and not force it. so, my husband took him in the next day (i try not to because he gets incredibly whiny and squeaky if it's me) and told nelson just a few things we wanted to shorten, his beard, eyebrows, and underskirt. he also mentioned that dusty's a little sensitive about his ears. in about 3 hours, dusty was all done, except for his nails. nelson mentioned that he got about 3 of them done before dusty was really trying to nip at him and asked my husband that if he wouldn't mind holding him down, he can finish the nails. of course we would do that! and definitely a plus for letting us know about the nails because we would've known they weren't complete. when i got home, dusty looked like the grumpy schnauzer, i know and love. the only thing i noticed were that his ears were not trimmed like i'd want them and that may have been due to my husband mentioning his ear sensitivity...so, i pulled out his beard trimmer and took care of them! i also trimmed his little downstairs area so he can be clean when he goes. he looks fantastic and i feel 10x better about taking him to nelson than our old place. read more

I've been on the search for a great dog groomer when I stumbled upon Le Chien Fortune on Yelp. Nelson is *wonderful* - so friendly and takes great care of my pup. He is very detailed in the services he provides - so you can rest assured that the whole kit and kaboodle of services that you expect in a grooming is included (e.g. bath, clipping, nail clipping, clearing anal glands, etc.). This has not always been the case for me at other groomers - so I was so relieved after getting my doggy back. I was *very* disappointed when the previous groomer returned my pup, nails untrimmed. So, always make sure to ask your groomer what all is included to ensure you're getting what you should expect! I'd also agree with one of the previous reviews that the cuts are not as consistent w/ the standard cut for your breed. You may need to coach them over a couple visits to get the cut just the way you like it - but they are very open to feedback. read more

This is a wonderful place to take your pet to be groomed. Nelson does an awsome job and is very patient with the animals. I had trouble finding a groomer that could deal with my aggressive Yorkie but Nelson is able to, and does an outstanding job. Since I have been bringing my dog there they have developed a trusting relationship and she has actually calmed down. I have also taken my other dogs there and they came back looking and smelling great. I will continue to take my dogs there and highly recommend this salon to anyone who is looking for a loving environment for their pets to be groomed in. read more
