Amazing service for my first self grooming of a client's pitbull. The staff was informative, affable, and went above and beyond!! I felt confident grooming the dog with the instructions I was given and they even checked in two times during a 25 minute wash and dry. At the end of the groom, I forgot a brush and shampoo bottle inside the store. An African American man with glasses and facial hair in a Petfood express uniform noticed this. While I was loading the pitbull into the car, he brought them up to me. Next time I come by I hope I see him there so I can drop him a tip! If I can rate them 10 stars, I would!! 1) I went in on a holiday to see if they were open because my kitty ran out of food and I called them expecting no answer but to my surprise they picked up swiftly and were very kind to me. 2) I came around 40 minutes late to pick up my order and they packaged it very well in the bag. The employee was kind and helped me in no time. 3) I got home and when I opened the bag, the employees in this location left a little gift inside for my cat. Although it's small, the thought and the choice of treat she got was picked to her liking (Salmon and Chicken). This review is LONG OVERDUE as I've been a loyal customer since their grand opening. We adopted two cats from the peninsula humans society and were given a coupon for 25% our first purchase for our two furbutts. On the day we went in we met the owner / president / ceo guy. He was chill and humble and kind. From that day to today we go here for all our pet needs. About 6 years ago. I wanted a career change and I started job searching WAY OUTSIDE my usual career path. (I fix the cars you guys break ..) Anyways. I was utterly shocked at the general level of disrespect and disregard that the potential employers were showing me. Most treated me like an inconvenience or a bother. None offered me any courtesy or respect. Like. NONE. Until that is I remembered how cool , humble and chill the PetFood Express boss dude was. So I applied at the PetFood Express in Millbrae. The manager was kind. Attentive. Commutative and responsive. He asked me why I wanted out of my current field and (dig this!!! ). Dude actually treated me like a human being !!! He introduced me to the district staff and I enjoyed two very pleasant follow-up interviews with the PetFood Express people. Ultimately I opted for a different path. But I only had the courage to keep looking due to the encouragement and kindness of these wonderful folks. So it's with that sentiment in my heart that when I eagerly volunteered to wash a family friends big husky dog while they were away and then promptly realized I had NO CLUE how to actually give a big dog a bath. I walked into my Go To place for all things furbutt. I was met by the same chill smiling friendly vibe that I've always been met with. I promptly confessed my ignorance and that I had a 65lb husky that had just went ham in the mud at the park. I was told. "We got you !" And that was it !!! I paid a reasonable fee. I was given my token and led to the dog wash stations. The dude that helped me wasn't condescending or impatient. He was kind and reassuring and he quickly. Politely and thoroughly explained what to expect and what to do. They had anything and everything I needed to accomplish a thorough pooch demudding and anti funking. In approx 30 minutes I had a lovely shampoo'd , conditioned , blow dried and brushed doggy to present to her grandma. While showing the pup to grandma. Best be assured I took ALL OF THE CREDIT. But here. On Yelp. A place of honestly and accountability. I'll tell the truth. Millbrae PetFood Express and its friendly culture of pet care , kindness and respect for all things that live. I came in to return a harness which was purchased in another location and was also looking for a toy or ball (I cannot recall exactly now). Though it was crowded and some dogs were excited in small part because I was squeezing toys someone whose name I did not get helped me sort out some options for a small dog who is my grandpup...he has lots of food allergies too and we looked over treats and so on. We recently got a new pet so we dropped by Pet Food Express in Millbrae and were very pleased. They have a fantastic selection of high quality pet foods, treats and accessories. It took us a while to pick a few things because they have so many great products. They're not cheap, but not overpriced either. You get what you pay for and I'm fine with that. Also, the staff on Saturday 10/15 was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We had questions about some raw food products we'd never tried and they took the time to help us with a smile. They even gave me a coupon. I also asked about alternatives to bully sticks and they showed me several great no hide options. Stopped by here for quick puppy treats while running errands. I walked in, and within a minute I was approached by an associate asking if I needed help, guided me to what I was looking for, gave me suggestions on good training treats. He went beyond my expectations because normally I just get pointed to a section and get time to look around blindly. Just really impressed that he was so knowledgeable on the products on the shelves, he gave me about 4 recommendations and told me the dietary benefits of each. I cannot say enough great things about this Pet Food Express. I welcomed home my first dog two months ago and visit this location several times a month. Every employee is always so incredibly helpful and friendly - they are super patient and even help me with recommendations. Their return policy is great because my puppy is fairly picky about his foods and PFE allows me to exchange for different foods if needed. The only problem I have had here is the recommendation of the Seresto Flea Prevention collar - an employee recommended this and I tried it on my dog. However, he started experiencing nausea and vomiting so we returned this immediately. We also found several new articles about the recall of this product - maybe the product is too new right now, but hoping they take them off shelves! read more

I notice this store several months ago but I waited until the week before last week to pay them my first visit. Why? Because there is a large Petco just next to my apartment, why do I bother driving 10 min here? The week before last week my puppet finished his last marrowbone (gifted from our trainer) and I'm in need of more. I failed to find any from my neighborhood Petco and a simple google search led me to their website. I decided to buy it in store so that I can choose the more meaty pieces. I was greeted by the staff members when I entered the store. It's clean and have a lot of food selections. It's medium large and has a completely different atmosphere from Petco - more natural. Generally speaking, I like it. And I also got the marrow bones I need with a fair price. Last week I paid another visit with my pupper. He picked some beef jerkies and a dried duck wing for himself. Their "grab-and-go" section has a lot of good stuff, all out of plastic packages. It's a great place to let my pupper shop for himself but I need to pay extra attention so that he doesn't eat anything I haven't paid for. I would def visit again to buy food and treats for my pupper. As for toys I think they don't have any many choices as Petco. Like Topple, which is my pupper's favorite, is not found here but in Petco. read more

I saw on team member assist a hesitant human to gently guide her German shepherd up the steps onto the tub for its bath. The space is clean...NO wet dog smell!Plenty of clean towels in stock, water proof collars available in different sizes. Apron are provided for doggies' humans. Variety of shampoos were available. Great water pressure! It didn't take too long for the water and shampoo to warm up. Blower worked great. 25 mins was ample time for wash and blow dry. I've asked obscure questions to which I've received incredibly detailed answers to. I love that I can pick up almost any product and get honest feedback about it. While heading out for grocery shopping, I saw the big crowd in front for the grand opening of Pet Food Express. Now I can shop for everyone in the same shopping center. Yay me! Today they had lots of vendors giving out samples of their food and explaining to me the benefits of grain free and raw diets. I came back later with my little Buddy to check out the free self-serve pet baths. (Only free this month so hurry down!) The staff were very eager to help and very friendly to us and the pets. The bath area was pretty cool. I'm probably never going to wash my pet at home anymore because I love that the baths here have different soaps, is at my standing level instead of kneeling, and has a nice dryer. Hate to say that Buddy wasn't loving it, but then again, what dog loves baths? The prices here are pretty reasonable and I like their selection of harnesses, leashes and toys. They carry lots of the food and snacks that Buddy likes so I think this place is going to be a keeper. Remember - bring your own bag. Millbrae stores have to charge for them now, and it's better for the environment anyway. read more

If you rescue a dog and it's terrified of water, don't go here. The manager seems upset if your dog isn't the best behaved at the dog washing station. Instead of being compassionate, they seem pretty judgmental with a lot of "don't do this and don't do that's..." felt like I was back in grade school. Oh well. Retail sucks. Guys at cashier are super nice, though. Guess I'll try the groomer next time. read more

The washing station is AMAZING! I have three little pups and I love coming to this Pet Food Express! I used to give my dogs a bath at home and it definitely got exhausting having to prep the bathroom, wash them, and then clean all the mess up. But this place is everything a dog owner like me could ask for. The washing station is easy to use & they provide you with everything! Aprons, dog collars, towels, blow dryers... and even treats for after the bath :) What's cool about it is that there are many different shampoos/conditioners you can choose from... some anti-itch, anti-flea, all of that! It blends the different shampoos/conditioners with the water too so it's super easy to use! One token lasts for about 20 minutes. It's so worth it for me because I only use one token for all 3 of my little dogs! The workers are nice & the store is impressively clean all the time. You must try this place out! read more

My experience with this store - Fabulous! My 10 months old Bubble's (mini poodle's) experience with this store - SUPER fabulous!!!!! We came to this store when Bubble was 3 months old. Ever since he has been coming to this store Daily...I mean Daily. Why? Because everyone on the staff here - Ella, Hanna, Nichole, Julep, Kyle, Isaiah, including the store manager Frank, love him ( I am sorry if I missed someone). ...and Bubble loves them all very much!! His bond with them has grown in this period to the point that his day is not complete unless he visits this store and greets everyone in his own ways. I wish I had pictures to show their daily greetings ritual. In addition to an extremely pet-friendly store, everyone here is VERY professional. I am always guided properly, whether I have to pick food, supplements, treats or bags. I also like the store policy of - buy 3 and the 4th one is free...and their very liberal return policy. Lindsay is the best! Super attentive and helpful. Dropped in to check out this location's amenities. My local Pet Food Express by Stonestown does not have a self service dog wash facility. This location does! Lindsay explain how the self-serving station works. My dog gets professionally groomed, however, this would be a great place to take him after a muddy day at the park. No appointments. Walk-ins only. Station looked sanitary and clean. Bathtubs are large enough to accommodate BIG dogs. This Pet Food Express has the largest selection of doggie stuff I've ever seen. Yelp comes through yet again! I took my 7 month old long-haired corgi to Fort Funston this past Sunday. We said we'd keep her out of the water to minimize the amount of sand she brings back in her fur. But alas, no. She went wild and crazy in the dirt, sand, shrubs, water - and not just running, ROLLING in it all! X_X Who could blame her though, it's like Doggy Disneyland there! Anyways, fast forward and it's now 5:15pm and we can't drive all the way back to San Jose and let her track all this mud and sand into the apartment. Luckily a quick Yelp search showed that this Pet Food Express was on the way home for us, and it was open until 6pm on Sunday. We got there around 5:40pm and asked one of the staff members about buying a coin. Turns out, self-bath coins are free until Nov. 17th because the store just opened! My dog HATES baths at home in the tub, and I always have to pay a premium to groomers because she has "poor bathing habits"/temperament. But surprisingly, she stayed very still for her bath and didn't cry at all. I love the bathing stations here - easy to use, clean, gentle...all helpful in reducing the stress on your dogs. The guys working there let us stay until we finished our bath despite the store being closed already, and they even helped us look for some treats for my dog. I love how this place carries quality items at non-boutique prices. And an additional 20% off until Nov. 17th! They also have baked goods and birthday treats in a case at the check-out counter which makes it really hard to resist an impulse buy! Haha The store is pretty small and cramped...BUT! My 4 year old labrador had been panting and pacing all night long for about 4 days, and I had gotten recommendations to try cbd oil during the night to ease his anxiety. My husband and I have always had a great experience at this store! We've brought our pit bull Chance here since he was a baby and the staff always remembered his name, along with always being super welcoming. We were completely out of food for our pups so we stopped in a little while ago. At the checkout we realized a big recurring yearly payment had just processed so our card wasn't going through. I asked them if they wouldn't mind leaving our bag for us up front until the morning and they said no problem. As we were about to walkout, one of the girls said,"Wait! Did you guys come in because your out of food for your dogs? Is this their dinner?" And when we told her yes she handed the kibble back to us and said to take it and to have a great night!
