I love it when my parents surprise me with this in the am! And then recently, I finally found out where the gem is located! This place serve beef stew and other noodle dishes. The beef tongue stew here is sooo f amazing and it's served with fresh, warm baguette bread. The stew is savory and umami and the beef tongue is so soft and just melts in your mouth. And the bread is heavennn, warm and soft inside and flaky outside. Also the cafe sua da is so strong and delicious. I brought my two friends here and they loved it. What's not there to love, beef tongue and bread. Seriously it's a hidden gem, it's next to taiko udon but they're both in the same restaurant. If you go later in the day for lunch, it's less crowded. They charged for water which is $.75 extra. They also serve fruit tart cakes and cream puffs and cheesecakes. I haven't tried it but they look really good. Def recommend! I am solely giving the review on the fruit tart/cake. I've never eaten anything else from. This is a go to place for my family and it's our tradition to get a cake for everyone's birthday in the family. It's so Asian. We like how it's not so sweet and the fruit is always fresh. I've never had a bad batch. I'm sure it's still high in calories because of the base and the custard but I never feel guilty eating a slice You don't have to call in ahead of time. Excellent Bo Kho (Vietnamese style beef stew) and very good fruit tarts, perhaps some of the freshest in Little Saigon. Bo Kho is easily one of my favorite Vietnamese comfort foods, few can match their version of the beef stew. It is very aromatic, the beef used is usually tender and the portions are plentiful. Moreover, it comes with a fresh hot-out-of-the-oven French baguette that you dip in the sauce and eat. Lastly, it is topped with freshly sliced jalapeno pepper, onions and cilantro. The lingering taste and scent of lemongrass, ginger, cinnamon and other spices really distinguishes the bo kho from other, more subtlety seasoned variations. Le Croissant Dore has perfected the bo kho, $7.75, which is reasonably priced, very flavorful, rich in texture and the tenderness of the beef is unlike any other. They are just as well known for their famous fruit tart, which lived up to its reputation as well. The fruit combination included pear, strawberries, kiwi, Mandarin oranges, red grapes and peach. The fruits were fresh and plump, the crust was flaky, not overly sweetened or had a heavy-laden syrup. I just enjoyed a slice. A whole fruit tart is very decorative and ranges in price depending on the size. They start off at $26, which feds six to eight people. The largest one they make is $75 and can fed up to forty people! The real notch against them is their less-than-friendly service at the counter. Their hours everyday are from 7:30am to 7pm. They begin cleaning up promptly at 6:30pm and will allow for some dishes, that have already been prepared, to be ordered to-go after that time. The Best French Stew, Great Ambiance and Cafe Sua Da! ~~Ambiance This is the day I met two gentleman, sipping coffee, smoking long brown cigarettes and chatting in Vietnamese while sitting at an outdoor, umbrella-covered table in front of a French bakery. Okay, I was going to go into this with an open mind. They have about 4 or 5 different options on the menu but when you walk in all you see on the tables are plates of bo kho. What is bo kho you might ask? Well, simply put, it is the Vietnamese version of beef stew. Some places serve it with noodles but there's nothing like dipping that soft french roll in the flavorful stew. The meat they use looked like a mix of beef and shank. Personally, I prefer shank and tendon. The beef cuts were satisfyingly thick. The carrots were a nice vegetable supplement but the winner in this game was definitely the shank. All the spices and seasonings of the bo kho blended together so well. It took everything in me to not pick up that plate and just start drinking it all down. The smell was so strong I could feel it going through my respiratory system with every sniff. I prefer my bo kho to be a little thicker as this was more on the watery side. Overall, the dish was great but something about it just made it fall short. This was the first time I decided to give Vietnamese coffee a try. Good Lord! Located in the heart of Bolsa, where everyone sucks at driving, and parking is limited, you might just get a bit frustrated. But it's worth it, because croissant dore has just as amazing desserts as it does banh mi no kho. Just beware though, sometimes you do have to wait in line, and to get your food takes some time as well. Banh Mi Bo Kho ($7.75) : It's similar to beef noodle soup except with a baguette instead of noodles. You could also opt for the mi bo kho, which is one with noodles. The bo kho at this restaurant is very simple, yet it is well made. It is served on a large plate with broth, beef, carrots, and topped off with onions. The beef is always nice and tender; you could literally just rip it apart with a fork in one hand and bread in the other. The soup is not bland whatsoever, it is seasoned perfectly. And the bread, the bread always comes out nice and toasty. If you're like me, and prefer less fatty meat, you can always request for "thit nac", which is for all meat and no fat. The only thing that I would say about this dish is that the soup is a little thinner than what my parents make at home, but trust me... it's still delicious. Fruit tarts: MY FAVORITE KIND OF CAKE IS FRUIT TART. The way they make it at this place is amazing! Not only is it a reasonable price, but the fruit tart is the best tasting fruit tart I've had. After having Porto's fruit cake, I was expecting something along the same lines at le Croissant Dore because.. how different can fruit tarts be? WRONG. 1/2 sheet for $40 is a pretty hard price to beat! The fruit layer on top was fresh and all sweet. I was expecting some to be sour since not all fruits were in season but this wasn't the case. The crust was what makes them different than the other fruit tarts out there. The Porto's fruit cake has a dense crust whereas the fruit tart here has a butterly flaky crust, much like a phyllo dough crust. I ordered 2 bowl of Bun rieu and Bo Nau Ruou through Grubhub today. I didn't believe my eyes when I saw the portion of bun rieu. Our favorite between the 2 was the one with the tongue. The sauce was definitely better. They both come with 1 bread and salt/pepper/lime. Price is reasonable but giving 4 stars cause our table was cleaned with a dirty rag so it had a smell and they charge for water. Food came out quick so you won't have to wait too long. I have been going to Le Croissant Dore since I was a little girl and I LOVE Banh Mi Bo Kho. This place is now connected to an Udon place & can get confusing because we were seated on the Taiko side, got an udon menu, but ordered from the menu on Le Croissant Dore's side. You also get served the drinks from the Taiko side, while the other side gets served drinks from their side. Prices have increased a lot since before and the servings have been gradually getting smaller, BUT the food is still DELICIOUS. The bread is fresh, warm, and perfect to soak up all the juices from the beef stew. Bo Kho (or beef stew) has more tendons than actual meat in it now, which is fine with me 'cause I love the chewy & soft tendons, but when some of it is too chewy and inedible, more meat was definitely needed. Beef tongue here is also delicious and a good pairing to the bo kho to share. Made in red wine, so it has a unique taste. The tongue however is melt in your mouth delicious. WARNING: they charge $1 for water! I would recommend sharing this GIANT PLASTIC CUP (think almost 32 ounces?) of water with a friend/family member because I only drank half of it and still had to pay the price. Also $3 for a tiny (but strong) cup of coffee. Would recommend getting a side of hot water to dilute it. Nice and very attentive workers, offered to make a new coffee for my mom when she said it was too strong. Great about bringing over hot water to dilute it. I think there may be a disconnect in communication because tables outside weren't cleaned right away even though there was a small wait. Understand that we have higher inflation nowadays but the dish price was already increased substantially.
