The service can be slow at times, but that just the charm of a family run business. I often come here for breakfast on the weekend. They don't pretend to be something fancier they they are. They make bake goods and they are good at what they make. I love their flaky and buttery croissants and their pate so as well, but I come usually for their breakfast items! My usual is the Xiu Mai, or Vietnamese meatballs. These meatballs are slow cooked in a tomato based sauce that fuses richly with the pork fat and juices flowing from the meatballs. Fruit Tart Review - Over the past 20 years, Luh Kwah Saunt Door Ray has supplied countless fruit tarts for my family functions and holiday gatherings. Everyone loves how fresh and perfectly sweet the fruit and custard tastes. From the small round tarts to the large rectangular full size trays, I just order on the phone and they have the tarts ready within a couple of hours. It doesn't seem as if they are very active on social media so the restaurant part has declined quite a bit. Maybe it was empty because I came right before closing, but in its heyday there would be a line out the door. Yesterday, on November 6, 2024, around 1:30 p.m., we purchased two banana cakes from a restaurant. After bringing them home, within 20 minutes after the purchase, we placed the cakes in the refrigerator. The following day, November 7, 2024, at around 8:00 a.m., we took one of the cakes out to eat and discovered mold on the bottom. Unfortunately, they were closed for the holiday. Somehow, I remembered this bakery from awhile ago. They are a family owned restaurant/bakery located at the end of a small plaza off Bolsa. This was a wonderful discovery! From the outside, you see 2 storefronts: Le Croissant Dore and Taiko Udon. When you go inside, there is an eating area on the bakery side and another eating area on the udon side. The ordering is done at the counter on the bakery side. I ordered #1 Bo Kho (beef stew w a baguette) for myself and #12 Banh Canh Gio Heo (pork hock w noodles). This was the best tasting viet beef stew I have eaten in my life and I've had many. My wife loved her pork hock w noodles and she has ordered that at other restaurants too. We were lucky to get a table since it was very crowded, you can be easily split into 2 smaller tables. This is back when COVID didn't hit us. Bo Kho is easily one of my favorite Vietnamese comfort foods, few can match their version of the beef stew. It is very aromatic, the beef used is usually tender and the portions are plentiful. Moreover, it comes with a fresh hot-out-of-the-oven French baguette that you dip in the sauce and eat. Lastly, it is topped with freshly sliced jalapeno pepper, onions and cilantro. The lingering taste and scent of lemongrass, ginger, cinnamon and other spices really distinguishes the bo kho from other, more subtlety seasoned variations. Le Croissant Dore has perfected the bo kho, $7.75, which is reasonably priced, very flavorful, rich in texture and the tenderness of the beef is unlike any other. They are just as well known for their famous fruit tart, which lived up to its reputation as well. The fruit combination included pear, strawberries, kiwi, Mandarin oranges, red grapes and peach. The fruits were fresh and plump, the crust was flaky, not overly sweetened or had a heavy-laden syrup. I just enjoyed a slice. A whole fruit tart is very decorative and ranges in price depending on the size. They start off at $26, which feds six to eight people. The largest one they make is $75 and can fed up to forty people! The real notch against them is their less-than-friendly service at the counter. Their hours everyday are from 7:30am to 7pm. They begin cleaning up promptly at 6:30pm and will allow for some dishes, that have already been prepared, to be ordered to-go after that time. I arrived after 6:20pm upon my two visits here and felt rushed to order. The young lady was rather quick with her responses and, dare I say, impatient with me both times. She made it clear that all orders had to be to-go. Begrudgingly, I did enjoy the bo kho and my fruit tart.
