Le Croissant Dore is just a hidden gem for me. It is just your average, everyday, everybody, local, family-own bakery. The people are friendly and kind. The service can be slow at times, but that just the charm of a family run business. I often come here for breakfast on the weekend. They don't pretend to be something fancier they they are. They make bake goods and they are good at what they make. I love their flaky and buttery croissants and their pate so as well, but I come usually for their breakfast items! My usual is the Xiu Mai, or Vietnamese meatballs. These meatballs are slow cooked in a tomato based sauce that fuses richly with the pork fat and juices flowing from the meatballs. I have been coming here for over 15 years for the STRONGEST cafe sua da, cream puffs and bo kho. I was in the area for my hair appointment and I decided to stop by for some coffee. It was also my daughers birthday. My daughter does not eat cake so a birthday fruit tart was a good option. They didn't have anything on display but I asked if they had fruit tarts and they had them in the back. The fruit tart is made with mostly can fruit and doesn't have the best aesthetics but it was DELICIOUS and a hit with my family. My dad even wanted a 2nd slice. The crust is flaky similar to a Napolean and the custard and fruit were just perfect. I would definately get it again for a potluck or party. This was a wonderful discovery! From the outside, you see 2 storefronts: Le Croissant Dore and Taiko Udon. When you go inside, there is an eating area on the bakery side and another eating area on the udon side. The ordering is done at the counter on the bakery side. I ordered #1 Bo Kho (beef stew w a baguette) for myself and #12 Banh Canh Gio Heo (pork hock w noodles). This was the best tasting viet beef stew I have eaten in my life and I've had many. My wife loved her pork hock w noodles and she has ordered that at other restaurants too. A surprise bonus was that I went there during the lunch hour and unlike many of the other small shopping centers in Little Saigon, it was easy to park. The lot was only 2/3 full. Unfortunately, they were closed for the holiday. Somehow, I remembered this bakery from awhile ago. They are a family owned restaurant/bakery located at the end of a small plaza off Bolsa. Due to COVID, you can order out front for take-out only. It's not a fancy bakery but the cakes and pastries are delicious. Upon arriving, we were assisted by a friendly employee. I was relieved that they had the fruit tart available for purchase. They even offered to write on the cake for us. Our family enjoyed the fresh fruit tart. The flaky crust was so tasty with the light custard topped with kiwi, strawberries, grapes and pineapple. It was the perfect combination of sweetness and tart flavors. I went here with my friends on a cold day that we were craving for beef stew. Nothing is better than this Vietnamese breakfast on a cold day! We were lucky to get a table since it was very crowded, you can be easily split into 2 smaller tables. This is back when COVID didn't hit us. With the casual ambiance and delicious food, this place can be a daily spot to go. The baguette is very super crunchy and I love it. In addition, they sell pastries and cakes here that I will definitely go back to try them. The only downside of this place is it kinda small so it can be a little difficult if you go in big group. Just putting it out there. This place makes good $$$$ but they don't want to turn on AC for there customers. All they have are little ass fan running and all these years they've in business. I'm sitting here waiting for my friends to show up and witnessing customers coming in and walked out right away and commented "There's no AC in this place" It's 105 outside right now. This is my favorite place to go for Beef Tongue Ragu. I used to go to Song Long but my parents enjoy this place more. I like it here because it is fast and still tastes good. To some people it might seem too oily but that's just how they're made here (even at Song Long). What I like is that there is two stores side by side. The place next door has udon which my parents also love eating. So when you go here you can get best of both sides.
