We started with a bread basket they brought us, fresh bread and amazing whipped butter. This is probably where we started getting so full. My drink wasn't great, it was way too bitter for my liking ,"Le Spritz" but the food so made Up for It. My friend got the hot cider with bourbon and that was good. We got the tuna carpaccio. This was wonderfully citrusy and fresh with little tostinis. Would definitely recommend. We also started with the mushroom tart. This was life changing . Delicious creamy mushroom flavor with a flaky pie crust and finely shredded cheese on top. AMAZING. For entrees we were already pretty full, but knew what we had to do! We ordered the Beef Bourguignon and scallops. The sauce on the Beef Bourguignon and the mashed potatoes were delectable. Wow i could have just eaten a bowl of that. It's always nice being served by someone who is aligned with the experience their restaurant has to offer. Known for their seafood and steak frites, we started our luxurious lunch with the King Crab which Michael recommended, and he was right, it was delicious. My husband ordered the Steak Frites and I ordered the Warm Shrimp Salad. When I say the Steak Frites was the best we've ever had, I'm not lying. We've eaten some of the best steaks from the top steak restaurants and this one ranks among the top 3 we've EVER had. The Warm Shrimp Salad was perfect. Great flavor and perfect balance on a plate. We made reservations a few weeks in advance, so while it was very busy, we were seated right away. The space of the restaurant was very nice and it had a great French atmosphere. The service was a little bit slow, so we waited awhile to order. We all ordered steaks for our entrees. When the food came, it was all EXTREMELY salty. We are a group that doesn't mind salt too much, but we all found it nearly inedibly salty. After hearing such great things about the restaurant, we were disappointed to say the least. Not to mention, the food is on the pricier side, so you expect it to be at least decent. Unfortunately, I can't recommend trying out this restaurant. What I didn't like is they texted that my table was ready only to let us wait in the cramp space by the host booth with other patrons for another 10 minutes. Meh: escargot. I can't seem to find good escargot in the states. The escargot here did not fare any better. Never again: beef bourguignon. This is the worst beef bourguignon I've had in my entire eating career. The heavily reduced sauce was just bitter and it took all flavors out of the dish. I feel like Le Diplomate really prides themselves on the sauces and sides because they complement the main protein very well! In addition, the servers are generally pretty awesome here. They have fresh loaves of bread all over the restaurant and bring you basket to start (my favorite was the cranberry one). Our server was very nice, attentive and was able to get the chefs to split each entree we ordered into separate plates in the kitchen for us to enjoy our meal family style (he said no other table has done that for their entire lunch). Plates and silverware were refreshed before each "course" and drinks were promptly refilled. We ordered a split Steak Frites (9/10) to start. For our mains we split a Warm Shrimp Salad (8/10), Omelette (8/10), Country Chicken Club (8/10), and the Trout Amandine (7/10). Everything was delicious, but we felt the portions could have been a bit more generous for the price. It was also very apparent that everything was doused in butter, not necessarily a bad thing but may have been a crutch. The trout was over salted but otherwise we enjoyed everything we tried! We went here recently for dinner and absolutely loved it. The decor of the restaurant is very reminiscent of Paris, though in many ways superior. The service is not the very best in the city, but still exudes a professionalism that most restaurants cannot match. We enjoyed the macaroni au gratin, steak au poivre, the veal escarole, and the profiteroles. All were really outstanding. The steak was a particular highlight, with an excellent cognac sauce.
