    Pommes Frites

Finally made it to Le Dip! We swung by during the pride parade for a quick snack. We did not have a res but were able to be seated within a few minutes around 4pm! Our server was very attentive and timely. We got a few things to share including the famous bread basket, gougeres, and pommes frites. The bread included the brown bread, a sourdough, and baguette. I found the first two to be a little dense and chewier than I liked but the flavors were great. The frites were also delish, hard to go wrong! The gougeres were a really light cheese puff with a really airy texture! Reminded me of a Brazilian pao de queijo. The entrees are definitely priced higher since this is such a touristy spot, but overall would come back to try more!

Great place. Dinner was amazing. The restaurant was vibrant, the decor was beautiful. We ordered the French onion soup. It was delicious, rich and cheesy. My husband had the steak & frites and I tried the grilled Branzino. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and my fish was full of flavor and cooked perfectly with a crispy skin. Drinks were great and our sever George was courteous and attentive. I would definitely come again.

The French onion soup was most excellent and the bread pieces inside soaked in the best flavors. The salmon tartare was great and the crisp greens accompanying it were a perfect serving vessel for it. The crème brûlée was perfect and the scallop risotto came with large scallops quartered to make it more bite sized and manageable. So glad I returned to this spot I had a chance to check out in March.

Another great experience last night on an exceptionally busy summer Saturday. Service is typically always reliable though our server yesterday was particularly professional, warm, and understated. To switch things up, we did skip the escargot though after some misses at other spots recently, Le Dip is the only place in the area where I will continue to order. The tuna carpaccio was light and bright and the crispy artichokes were fantastic. Next time we'll add the escargot back into rotation and share a steak au poivre, which my husband had last night. We did after dinner drinks to round it out: amaro and ratafia, and we never felt rushed to finish up. The summer vibes were high and everyone was out - dates, groups, and families alike.

Walking into the restaurant - i thought I was stepping into a Skittles "taste the rainbow" commercial - but the vibe of this place is bright and the charcuterie and cheese plate was just as colorful here. Friendly staff plus don't miss the decor of the men's room! Fun visit.

Steak frites: steak is small but well cooked. Frites were crisp.

Quite a famous and historic restaurant. In DC, so let's try it. It definitely stands out as you approach it and you enter a very happening bar area. Very loud and electric atmosphere. They have a nice selection of cocktails and beer. The salade verte was artistically presented with radishes and a nice vinaigrette. It was topped with green beans which seemed a tad odd. French onion soup was a must try. It had a nice cheesy crust and croutons soaked in the soup. So classic and very tasty. The steak frites was also classic. The frites were tasty and crispy and the steak was cooked well. The steak was slightly small. The roasted salmon was cooked perfectly--very moist and a crisp skin. The fava beans and pea sauce was very creamy. The trout amandine was also cooked well with crispy skin. FYI It is cooked in a ton of butter. We did not order any of the dishes suggested by our waiter LOL, he steered us to the most expensive entrees. His service was quite good, perhaps a tiny bit snooty.

Wow, what a fantastic spot. Visited last week with coworkers and had such a great time. We sat on the patio and the place was packed even on a Monday night, which says a lot. Pablo took amazing care of us, super kind, knowledgeable, and his recommendations were spot on. I got the Kir 75, a mix between a Kir Royale and a French 75, and it was SO good. One of my coworkers and I shared the warm shrimp salad and the steak frites, both delicious. The kitchen even split the dishes for us beforehand which was such a nice touch. Also, the bread basket while you wait? Dangerous levels of good. Definitely coming back next time I'm in DC.

I went to this little bistro for lunch and so glad I was able to check it out! The flavors were outstanding. It truly felt as if I was transported to a little bistro in France. I was a solo diner and felt perfectly cared for. The food came out in a timely manner, I was not rushed, and was so happy with the quality of the food, especially given the price. The soup was unique and creamy, with a nice rustic but delicate flavor. The artichokes were perfectly crispy and so light! The aioli it came with was spot on. The fries were crispy and thin, a classic fry but cannot go wrong. One of the stars though, which is unexpected, was the free bread basket?! There was a cranberry nut bread and it was unlike anything I've ever had. Sweet and perfect with some salted butter. Not to mention, all the bread was so soft and fresh! The inside is quite large and busy, so I would recommend a reservation. The inside is beautiful and the interior decor really accentuates the French aesthetic. Truly a gem and happy to add one of their complimentary matchbooks to my collection.

Loved this spot! Open late (midnight) and definitely serving up French vibes! Friendly hostess, seated immediately on a Friday night, and sat on the outdoor patio for people-watching. We had already eaten some stuff earlier so we went with a shrimp cocktail, green salad and fries. My husband ordered coffee which was delicious and piping hot. We also ordered a Pot de Crème but after waiting 20 minutes for it we just asked for the check. Service was slow and not attentive. Felt like being in France. lol. We would still come back.

@lediplomatedc warm shrimp salad (of course) & Roast Beef with horseradish cream, on caraway baguette --- impeccable service, and vibes as usual it's very kind of them to split portions and plate separately for sharing!

Second time here. Food was great and so was service, tried the burger for the first time. I liked it but I liked the steak frites more from last time. Only feedback was long wait time for bathrooms, seems like they need more. Went twice and both times had to wait 5+ minutes.

What incredible experience. I loved the food, the service was great and the space omg so beautiful. I love how the areas of the restaurant has a different vibe like the green room area vs the main area everyone eats at and the outdoor space that gives cafes style similar to paris. I highly recommend you won't disappointed. Best solo date. Tips /info: -They have complimentary bread they will serve you with butter. - water ( tap is free) and bottle still or sparking is $9.00 fyi. I Ordered: Country Chicken Club Sandwich that comes with fries 10/10 Ice Vietnamese coffee ( had with almond milk) 10/10 Their creme Brulee 10/10

Iconic DC restaurant with a beautiful ambiance and decent brunch! I've been coming to Le Dip for years and the quality and service is always very consistent! I don't think their brunch is the best in the city, but their bread basket (don't miss the cranberry slice) and espresso martinis will always be legendary. For brunch this time, I ordered the Gruyère Omelet. Simple and did the job! Loved the crispy potato's on the side.

I can't get a table for Saturday night, is it worthwhile to go with a date and eat at the bar? Do many people do that? I haven't been to the restaurant before...

I think that there's no guarantee that you'll find a seat, but if you are willing to try go for it. Otherwise, just make a reservation nearby like at Matchbox as Plan B.

You can but it will be difficult and there will be a wait!

Food wise it's not my first choice, however it is for my partner and the environment being my preference it's the best compromise. We had the burger and eggs Benedict, both were pretty good, the home and French fries in particular were well spiced and crispy. Dispelling the myth that French cuisine is pretentious, we felt like we were in a home, and that we would be fed full to the brim. Came in while it was packed late into the night. We were sat immediately and had a wonderful time. Our waitresses were patient and had great recommendations for our first time trying French food. They seem incredibly experienced and added comfort in the way they spoke to their customers and ran their tables. We were even greeted by the owner who was great and cheery to each table he visited. The one night we went, it was incredibly packed with people having intimate, lighthearted, and laughter-filled gatherings, tables with multiple rounds of wine, everyone sharing their fries, and so he should feel proud of this place. Touches like this made it as though we were dining in someone's house. And I love that they start you off generously with bread and butter. Its a type of french loaf that is nice and fluffy, and I'd recommend setting some on the side if you're ordering a brothy dish. We ordered Moules Marinières, which came in a delightfully large cauldron of juicy plump clean muscles swimming in an herbaceous-garlicky white wine sauce. Unassumable from the simplicity of ingredients they threw together, but incredibly complex in flavor. This is one of the few times I actually tasted bay leaf, and amongst the fewer times I found the use of rosemary not be so overpowering. The mussel liquor at the bottom was perfect when soaked up in bread. What an incredible dish. We also tried a classic, Le Steak Maison, which was also distinctively flavorful. Our steak had a perfect cook at medium rare, and was uniquely seasoned with some sort of blend of herbes de provence. The fries were pretty standard and substantial, but paired with the Béarnaise sauce, it was such a tangy play of richness and acidity. Again really simple ingredients just executed so well. Great job, looking forward to coming again to try more on this large menu.

The beer selection is incredible, vibes are solid - it is pretty old world and upscale for a beer joint - but if you are looking for a full meal vegetarians should go elsewhere. They *have* vegetarian options but it's one of those things where they do the bare minimum because they have to and your choices are like...the one thing. Which leads me to the one vegetarian entree, the risotto. It was fine. Not mindblowing. Small portion for the price - small portions all around, frankly. See my pic. Our server, who was impressively attentive/efficient given that he was the only person making the rounds to all of the tables in the upstairs room, which were packed because of the World Cup, recommended getting.the brussels sprouts small plate without bacon, so I did. I did not like it. It came with pomegranate seeds and a sauce that were sweet but then had parmesan and savory flavors that did not go. I suspect the salty, fatty bacon was important to balancing out these flavors. People I was with got house pickles, fries and meatballs which all appeared solid. The portions for the fries and meatballs were pretty teeny for the price IMO. Like I said, beer selection is out of this world. Not mad at the prices or portions there, especially given that it's largely imported. Is this personally a place I would make a go to? No. Only if I am taking out a friend who is super into beer tasting. But if I were super into French and Belgian beer and or really liked that kind of food (eg mussels and very meaty Northern European dishes) ? Maybe. So my personal recommendation is to come, have beer, enjoy the ambiance, and treat food as an afterthought for if you need something to eat.

We forecasted a total F&B cost at their Opaline restaurant of approximately $6,000 for our event, yet we were hit with an astronomical charge of $11,178. That is a staggering 100% markup over the expected total, and we are certain the consumption did not come anywhere near those figures. We closely monitored the food and beverage service throughout the night, and the numbers they reported are, frankly, a work of fiction. We presented our discrepancy to the Opaline Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square Director of Catering, Sherry Mostaghim, but no refund was provided or a discussion of our evidence. We escalated to the General Manager, Karla Erales, but were unable to secure any refund or an audit of the bill. Their billing math does not add up to reality: Alcohol Consumption: The invoice claims 28 bottles of wine were served to just 19 guests in 90 minutes. The 28 wine bottles equates to 8 glasses per person, per hour--a physical impossibility. Even over three hours, the total volume of wine and liquor billed would average 12 drinks per person. Given the demographic of our guests, this volume is not just impossible; it is an egregious fabrication. If this bill were accurate, the staff would have needed to call ambulances, not present an invoice. Charcuterie Boards: We authorized $42 in charges for boards; we were billed $375. Sodas: We were charged for 57 sodas despite there being only four children present. We had read other negative reviews before booking and were specifically assured by management that we would have no issues. We felt that our invoice was significantly padded, and it seemed they assumed we would not scrutinize the charges. When confronted with clear evidence that the billed consumption was physically impossible, they chose to hide behind rigid, dismissive policy rather than correct their mistake. Do not trust the management at Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square. They are unwilling to engage with reality, let alone provide honest service. Save your money and your sanity--find a venue that actually respects its customers.

I was already impressed by the weekend happy hour deals. I started with the Aromatic whites wine flight (great pours for $12!!). All 3 wines were delicious and the bartender, Fabio was the best and very engaging throughout my time at the bar. I had the beef tartare and it was the best I've ever had! I then ordered a glass of the Domain du Somail Red Blend paired with the steak frites, which was the best pairing. I was stuffed but decided to get the crème brulee, which you could never go wrong with. It was the best CB I've had in a while. I will definitely be back for restaurant week or just an impromptu happy hour.

We came here with a few friends for an early dinner, making reservations in advance. Once seated, we decided to order some starters to share: +the Warm Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese Ball - with honey and red wine caramelized onions +Chicken Liver Mousse - with white wine gelee, apricot, pickled veggies, and an onion marmalade +Baked Camembert de Normandie - with confit garlic, thyme, and honey +and, an Onion Soup for the hubs - prepared with beef broth, croutons, and Gruyere For our entrees, I went for the Steak-Frites, which came with a hanger steak and shallot sauce; you can sub the usual fries with truffle fries, which I recommend! My counterparts enjoyed their Long Island Duck Breakfast (with seared asparagus, cumin carrot puree, cippolini onions, and port sauce), the Maryland Rockfish (with artichoke barigoule, carrots, brasied fennel, and noilly prat sauce), and the Local Roasted Chicken (with English peas, carrots, baby potatoes, and truffle jus). If you want to sop up your sauce with bread, don't forget to order the breadbasket! Staff were friendly and checked-in on our party throughout our dining experience; the place is cozy and vibrant, and seems to be pretty popular. I'd be curious to try their HH on the next visit! +French bistro eats +shareables +friendly staff & service
