That was by far, the "least tasty" Shawarma I have had. The chicken looked odd, kind of grey and chunky. Did not seem fresh off the grill. Garlic sauce was average. Baklava was ok. I only could eat a few bites before needing to rehydrate. -lamb vegetable soup was decent. The vegetables in the soup were mildly crisp, not over cooked. -grilled vegetables had great flavor and were still crisp, not soggy like some restaurants. -kibbeh was my favorite overall. EXCELLENT job on the kibbeh: crunchy outer shell, perfect balance of oil, and beef on inside was flavored well. -pita bread was good. A little crunch on the outside, which may have been due to delivery, but they paired very well with the hummus. Huge portions, simple ingredients, and always delicious. Take a break from the usual midwest dinner of beer and cheese to enjoy some beet juice and grilled goodies. I have always ordered from the entree section rather than the sandwiches so my meal comes with soup or salad and a side of fries, rice or grilled veggies. I typically ask for half veggies and then either half fries or rice and they always oblige. I fill up on the absolutely delicious fresh pita and garlic spread and go home with a full to-go box for lunch the next day. While I did not grow up eating this type of food, I just get the sense that everything from the salad dressing to the kebab seasonings is made with care and in a home cooking style. I live near downtown Grand Rapids, steps away from hip, noteworthy restaurants and don't own a car. But I will brave weather, public transit, and just about anything else this town has to throw at me to eat what I believe is the best food around. read more

They really make you want to come back and Le Kabob owners would regret loosing them, so treat them like gold! Best Middle Eastern food in Grand Rapids. I grew up outside of Detroit (Windsor) and this style of food was a favourite.The owners live in Dearborn and each rotate to stay in Grand Rapids and prepare food at Le Kabob. Grand Rapids is not an ethnic city and the restaurant may prepare food for an American palate, such as beef dishes prepared rare. Ask for "Middle Eastern" style. The recipe was developed for local climate without refrigeration hundreds of years ago. My beef at home is very rare,but when I want to eat Middle Eastern medium well or as chef suggests is best. My only grievance is that due to pricing kibbeh fried and nayeh has gone downhill. Pine nuts are expensive and left out for and other nuts substituted. If pine nuts are included it is a scarce amount. Kibbeh Nayeh was great years ago and now bulgur predominates. Staff is always friendly and other cliental are pleasant. read more

The best is really the bread and rice, followed by the platters. The chicken shawarma was mediocre without much flavor. We attempted to eat at Le Kebob recently and posted pictures of the place as being closed. Their website also showed them at the same (closed) address. In reality, they have moved down the street and their new address is 3122 28th Street Southeast. I'm glad we spotted Le Kabob on the way back to our hotel so that we could actually eat here; don't be scared off by the big neighboring Christian book store with whom Le Kebab shares a strip mall. The decor is styled like a somewhat updated chain restaurant would look. Fresh beet juice and carrot juice options, wonderful vegetarian and vegan options, tiny hot pitas which tasted as if freshly baked, and plenty of other tasty things from which to select. Although the rice pilaf part of my meal seemed a bit on the bland side when compared with other places I have eaten this particular item (rice pilaf is not known as a dish with a lot of flavor, but there was less flavor in it here than I'm used to-maybe it would be better if they used a different kind of rice to make the dish?), this was more-than made up for by the INCREDIBLE garlic and olive-oil spread for putting onto the pitas. The remainder of the meal was exactly as expected and described in the menu, and I was not disappointed with the preparation or the wonderful flavors of the remainder of it. As a vegetarian, my menu options here were not "limitless," but there were more than enough things on the menu to make Le Kebob worth many repeat visits; I hope to do so many more times. read more

As a skeptical New Yorker now living in Red Sox nation, and a world traveler, I wanted to believe that Le Kabob could live up to its Yelp billing...but after all, a small restaurant in a Grand Rapids area strip mall? Really? Really. At the recommendation of a local Yelp reviewer, I ordered the lamb kabob, and ordered it medium rare, more rare than medium. And I was amazed. It was delicious, PERFECTLY done, as tender and juicy as any in a major New York or Boston restaurant. Both in quality and quantity, it was simply delicious, as was the Greek salad that accompanied it. The rice pudding was an interesting variant of the Middle East delight - thicker than I expected, but very tasty. The chefs are from Yemen, and they take their halal preparation very seriously - and succeed. I wish I had the time to come back and try more of their menu - so if you live locally, I'd urge you to try it. Food poisoning that lasted for 36 hours and turned my insides to hot lava. I don't know what gave it to me, whereas I got the sampler, so it could have been almost anything. Hummous, baba ganoush, tabouli are all likely made ahead of time and reused. Even the shawarma could have been made ahead and sitting in steam trays below the proper temps. The shawarma was cold. The wheels have come off this place. We've been regulars (almost weekly) since they opened this location. But in the past 7-10 months, they've gone straight downhill. The food is nowhere near consistent. Sometimes, it's fine but more recently, it has has no flavor at all. And then there are the almost weekly texts offering 20-40% off that started coming months ago. Occasional discount texts are one thing, but sending them weekly is a sign of desperation. Too bad. Today was our first experience at Le Kabob and we really enjoyed it. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Our servers name was Samantha and she answered all our questions and was an amazing server. We started with the complimentary garlic paste and basket of bread which was amazing, even my 2 year old loved it! Then we ordered the shish combo for 2 and the chicken Shata which were yummy. We got sides of soup and I chose the chicken and vegetables which was also yummy. I wanted to take a picture of it but I finished it and then realized that I had to take a picture for yelp!
