    How much does it cost?

It is $149 per person PLUS they add, without telling you, a "service change" of $34 per person on top of that which they say is NOT A TIP. No cocktails, only wine. The red is a Cabernet at $23.00, and the white is a Savignon Blanc at $19.

I'd meant to come to this bistro since it opened (10 years ago! Whoa!!) but vacations to California were short and packed. Now that I've moved back, I got to take my husband for a little lunch date. We sat outside since the weather was exceptional, sunny with a cool breeze. I ordered the steak frites, pear gin and tonic, and my husband had the mussels mariniere with gin and tonic with passion fruit and grapefruit. I can't wait to order the Big Mec next time. For dessert, we shared the Paris breste. It was perfectly sweet and nutty. It was worth the wait and little journey up the 5 from OC. Five stars!

The onion soup was definitely the highlight -- rich, comforting, and one of those warm, satisfying dishes you don't come across that often. The beef tartare was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The omelette was a bit too cheesy for my taste, though that might just come down to personal preference. Banana tart is so good. Try this. The outdoor seating had a great brunch vibe and was really enjoyable, while the indoor space felt a bit small and tight. Service was also very good -- attentive and friendly throughout. Overall, a solid spot with a great atmosphere and some standout dishes.

French onion is def a try if you love soup and if you like seafood, get the mussels. Curry flavor is so good and such a good size, they actually do not skimp on the mussels so it's so worth. As for the entrees, my husband got the ribeye steak and it was tasty and cooked perfectly. The scalloped potatoes that it came with was cheesy and delish! I opted for the cod and it was good as well, I recommend this entree if you want a lighter one since you munched on the appetizers already hehe. Service was great as well, they're all really friendly and attentive. The place is so cute as well, make sure you try to sit outside, it is such a cute place and pretty romantic. For appetizers, we ordered the octopus and escargot. The octopus was easily the highlight of the night. The flavor, sauce, and texture were all amazing, and the roasted herb potatoes paired perfectly with the salsa verde and chimichurri. I would highly recommend this dish. The escargot was also very flavorful, especially if you enjoy garlic. The bread it comes with is a great touch since you can dip it into the sauce or pour the garlic butter over it. For entrées, we ordered the Atlantic salmon and the rack of lamb. The salmon tasted very fresh, but unfortunately lacked flavor. The rack of lamb -- which is considered their signature dish -- was tender, juicy, and worth trying at least once, but honestly the appetizers stood out more than the entrées for me. We also got two cocktails: the Pomegranate Margarita and the Casanova. Both were good and definitely on the sweeter side, so I'd recommend them if you enjoy sweeter drinks. Overall, I would come back mainly for the appetizers and cocktails.

As for what we ordered: - Escargots (5/5), no notes - super flavorful and tasty standard escargots done right! - French onion soup (5/5): the cheese was nicely melted and the soup was rich. Classic choice, can't go wrong! - Duck confit (5/5): never had this before but oh man it was so good! The duck skin was light and crispy, not oily at all and the duck was juicy. The flavors shined throughout and the purées complimented the duck really nicely. Super balanced dish - Beef Bourguignon (4/5): I wanted to love this more but I think the wine sauce was too overpowering. The beef was fork tender and cooked really nicely but I just thought the sauce was too strong. Everything else was nice! - pistachio crème brulee (5/5): I was so surprised but this was so good!! It had a good acidic component from the vinaigrette and the broccolini themselves had a good bite to them. - Market lettuce, mango -- another bright dish that was needed for health purposes. It was bright and summery and delicious. MAIN - *Croque Madame -- a table favorite; I will say we cut it into 8 slices and we felt like it was enough richness with the one bite we had. I thoroughly enjoyed how fluffy the bread was and how it soaked up the sauce - *Abalone and Bay Scallop Pot Pie -- also another favorite with the richness of the pot pie. Ample mushrooms which I thoroughly enjoyed. The puff pastry was also very flaky. The "pot pie" is more butter based so it is a rich dish. - Spaghetti Bolognese -- perfectly al dente pasta; a good bolognese but nothing to write home about for me - *Loup de Mer -- enjoyed the flaky yet tender fish that paired well with the sauces in the dish. I enjoyed that it didn't feel overly heavy, but the dish matched the thickness of the fish itself - *Pekin duck breast -- served medium rare which was perfect. I didn't get much peking flavor, but did enjoy the skin and cut of the duck breast. The french fries were also nicely seasoned. DESSERT/DRINK - Espresso martini -- I would skip. I was disappointed by the drink itself. Pandan can often have an artificial vanilla taste and that artificial taste unfortunately was the major note of the drink. It also tasted quite watery which was a disappointment - Chocolate Fondant -- a molten lava cake; nice and hot. The restaurant paces the food well so you feel satiated, however, I think I would prefer to have had things come out a little more quickly. All our mains were served one by one which led for idle hands at times.

The dishes are interesting ideas combining French and Japanese cuisine, but the execution was a miss. Food aside, there was a seating hiccup. We had to be seated outside, even though I indicated I'd like to be seated in the standard "indoor" room on my opentable reservation. Per the restaurant, standard includes indoor and outdoor seating together. It should be made clear on Opentable if that's the case. Their manager, I think named Patric, had wonderful service and was a pleasure to have around. I guess he was the only highlight of this restaurant lol (ironically not the food)

We've been to Monsieur Marcel multiple times over the years and always considered it one of those reliable LA staples, overpriced but charming enough to justify it. That illusion officially ended on Memorial Day. We arrived Monday afternoon and politely asked about happy hour. The host immediately, and rudely, snapped: "We aren't doing that, it's Memorial Day." No explanation, no hospitality, no "sorry for the inconvenience," just instant attitude. Apparently a federal holiday means customers should pay MORE while receiving LESS warmth. Here's the thing, Memorial Day still fell on a MONDAY. One of the few weekday holidays where people actually have the chance to enjoy a happy hour. Cancelling it felt greedy enough, but the dismissive delivery made it worse. What's especially absurd is there was zero signage, no online notice, no indication whatsoever that happy hour would be suspended. So customers are expected to just find out by being publicly shut down at the host stand. Despite the terrible first impression, we stayed. Ordered truffle fries, wine, aioli, tipped appropriately, spent nearly $90 for what amounted to fries and a bottle of wine, and somehow still left feeling like our presence was inconvenient. Hospitality in Los Angeles is already struggling, but places like this seem determined to speedrun their own irrelevance. There are too many restaurants in LA with better food, better service, better wine programs, and staff who understand that "hospitality" is literally the business model. The irony is that the actual server was fine. But when your front-of-house experience starts with hostility and nickel-and-diming, it poisons the entire meal. Won't be returning, and definitely won't be recommending it anymore.

This high-end hipster restaurant is tucked down a graffiti-covered alleyway downtown, on one of the blocks that somehow doesn't have that many homeless people. The entrance is unassuming and plain, which I guess is cool now? Are we over flashy? I don't know. Walking inside, you feel... nothing. The employees are all dressed in white. The restaurant is all white. It's a little bland. Near the entrance are four white upholstered chairs where you wait while your table is prepared. These chairs have seen better days. The white fabric looks like wet dogs have been sleeping and wrestling on them for years. Dirty, stained, gray. I'll stand, thanks. The prix fixe menu includes a French baguette, French butter, a summer salad, and your steak frites: a hanger steak with tarragon parsley sauce. The highlight of the meal was the bread. Soft center, crispy crust, and the butter was topped with flaky rock salt. Simple and delicious. The salad was light and bright, and by that point I was excited for the steak. I always order my steak medium. Is that right? Is that wrong? I don't know. Blood freaks me out, so I like just a little pink. The steak arrived and the presentation was a 10/10. The fries were great. Hard to mess those up. The parsley tarragon sauce was interesting at first. A flavor profile I don't think I've had before. The first bite was solid. But then came the problem: the hanger steak was tough and blood red. I had to chew it so much that I was completely over the parsley tarragon sauce before I was even halfway through the meal. The sauce also became overpowering and salty fast. The restaurant is dark, which I'm convinced is intentional so you don't notice the "medium" steak you ordered is actually rare because they have a Michelin star and apparently they know better than you. The service was fine, and my server was delightful. The restaurant clearly knows that, because they automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill. And even with the gratuity already included, the receipt still has suggested tip amounts printed on it just in case you're looking to hit that magical 40% tip threshold. All in all, it was fine. If I had been served this exact steak frites while sitting in first class on a Delta Air Lines flight from LAX to JFK, 10/10. But driving an hour through Los Angeles traffic and Gotham City conditions to be greeted by dirty furniture and an okay steak? 6/10.
