Medieval Times in Buena Park is the only place where you can pay $80 to eat chicken that tastes like it lost a battle with a hair dryer, while a guy in tights screams at you about honor and glory. The actors and choreography were shockingly better than some big budget movies. It's been years since I've been back and it seems to be way better this time but also we got VIP this time around We were here to celebrate a birthday and we got the VIP tickets. We had our own special VIP landyard sine we got the Royalty tickets. The seats were dead center and great views of the show! The riders even came up to us and tossed us flowers! We attended the dinner and show this past weekend with her family and everyone had an enjoyable experience. The parking is spacious, but on this particular Saturday it was soo busy. The whole venue was packed. They have tons of merch and toys. You can purchase alcohol before or during the show. The food itself is ok. You eat everything with your hands like the olden times. Something new to note is they have options for those with dietary restrictions. They offer a Vegan meal now. The whole atmosphere is loud and cheerful. You know I commit to the most absurd side quests and in the best way like driving down from LA to eat with your hands and scream for knights like it actually matters. But Medieval Times in Buena Park is 100% worth the trip. BIG UPS!!!! This ended up being a full nostalgia play, except I never even went as a kid. Most of my friends had already done it growing up, so walking into it brand new made the whole thing hit even harder. I was genuinely so into it. I had read mixed reviews about the food, so I went in with low expectations, but honestly I loved it. Good Knight The whole concept of "dinner and a show" has become a somewhat antiquated idea these days. I mean, sometimes people-watching is far more entertaining than any show that's happening, but Medieval Times sword fighting Knights and knaves might have something to say about that. Medieval Times dates back to the '60s in Spain, of all places, before it became a thing here in the US back in the '80s. This Buena Park location is actually their 2nd US location (ca. 1986), as there's now nine of these in the US, and one in Canada. The Good: *Huge free parking lot *Beer on-tap, as well as a full bar to keep you lubricated for all the death and mayhem. *Actors were a little over the top but still a lot of fun. *If you love jousting and sword play, then this is the place for you. *Overall, the food wasn't half-bad! I don't think it's changed much since the last time I was here (late '90s), but you get a full rotisserie chicken, garlic bread, soup baked potato, and grilled corn. I will say the grilled corn and potato were the stars of the show, as the chicken was just OK. There's also dessert, but we'll get to that in a minute. *Great family entertainment as my sassy, grumpy 15yr-old son had a great time, which is saying a lot these days. I had always wanted to go to Medieval Times and finally it happened! I was just as excited as a little kid to go. I wore the same dress I wore to Renaissance faire and was so excited to get on the blue team so the crown matched my dress. Cocktails are pricey but if you want to get a memento glass then it's fun to purchase something from the bar before entering. I Love love love how everyone is in character from the beginning and it had me talking in some accent to pretend I'm part of it. We sat in the middle-ish area, not too close but not very far away and I'm glad we did. I think the people who are right in the front row risk some dirt flying at them from the arena when the horses are running. It's so fun watching the jousts and the games and everyone cheering. The food is pretty good, the chicken is a giant portion, juicy and tasty. There is a small tomato soup, corn, and roll that comes with it and you can get water or soda in your goblet. The dessert was just ok. The portion is large so you do get to take some home for leftovers. Here on a Sunday evening, my first time here and probably my last. All staff were super friendly but others like our waiter, although he was friendly, he was extremely busy. I felt that he was in a huge rush to get everything served that he didn't have time to really check up on us. Here is why I wouldn't come back. -seats are the worst ever. Absolutely no leg room (you have more leg room on economy flights). Impossible to stretch your legs and literally hitting the people next to me bc of lack of elbow room. Just plain awful!!!! And don't even think about going to use the restroom..no way to get out. In order to get out, you'll have to ask 6-5 people to get up and literally move out of the row so you can leave and/or sit back down. Ridiculous!! And never again! -food was mediocre and reminded me of hospital cafeteria food. And the lack of extra napkins is crazy! -dessert was disgusting!! Stale, dry previously frozen dollar store "eclair" and bc we paid for VIP a slice of white cake with extra sweet frosting. -animals (horses) I felt so bad for the horses. They looked sad and a couple were drooling pretty bad & one literally had its tongue off to the side of his mouth. We recently visited Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament and overall had a really fun experience. Check-in was quick and easy. Upon arrival, you're given a colored crown that corresponds to your seating section, which adds a fun, immersive touch right from the start. They also take your photo after check-in if you want a souvenir. Once inside, there's a large lobby area where you can grab drinks and browse merchandise like crowns, swords, and other themed items. When it's time for the show, you're called into the dining arena by your assigned color. Seating is at long banquet-style tables with stadium-style chairs. Be aware that seating is pretty tight... once everyone is settled, it's a bit difficult to get up, especially if you need to use the restroom during the show. For drinks, you're offered non-alcoholic options (Pepsi products), and the meal begins shortly after. The first course was garlic bread and tomato soup, which was surprisingly delicious, rich, creamy, and flavorful. True to the medieval theme, utensils aren't provided unless you specifically ask for them. The main course included roasted chicken, a quartered potato, and corn on the cob. Check out their instagram page or sign up for their emails to receive discount codes. They almost always have some sort of discount. Right now they have 15MT and 20MT. Highly recommend the knighting ceremony $40 - you get a photo with the king and queen w/a scroll announcement, an announcement during dinner, and either a hat or a light up sword/wand. Before dinner: they will give you a ticket to preset at the knighting desk, you check in, pick your item, pick your 'title' and mention what you are celebrating. This gets listed on your scroll. You then take the photo with the king and queen. The photo w/announcement scroll are handed to you at dinner (midway through). I also recommend the VIP upgrade royalty $16pp or celebration $23pp. You get a VIP lanyard, early seating, small cheering banner and for celebration you get a slice of cake and a photo for each person. If you were going to buy the group photo anyway (taken at the entry) I would recommend buying the celebration as the group photo costs $22 ($11 for any subsequent photo aka reprint). They strictly regulate who parks in their lot which is nice so parking isn't too difficult. They open 75-90 minutes prior to your show time and the king and queen make an announcement right as they open for check in. You check in with your last name and they will hand you your table cards and VIP lanyards if purchased. You will then walk over to the right to have a group photo taken, be given your crown with the color of your section/knight and then are sent into the hall to purchase drinks (Wine, Beer, Mead, slushie cocktails), swag and visit the horses. Check in at the knighting desk if you purchased it! If you have a VIP lanyard they have a special entry area they will call you in by color about 15-20 minutes before showtime. Your table card will tell you your row, you are not assigned a specific seat in the row. Food: make sure to wash your hands before entering the arena because you will be using your hands to eat! No utensils! Each person is served: Tomato soup w/garlic bread, corn on the cob, half rotisserie chicken (thigh good, breast dry), potato slice, and chocolate eclair (super dry). Drinks are water, lemonade, sprite (Starry), Pepsi, Pepsi zero. You also have a bar wench that can get alcoholic drinks. You get coffee at the end but it was too hot for me to drink before the end of the show. I tried to ask for it earlier but they can't serve it early. Your server will give you a folder to place a tip in at the end of service. The knights will throw carnation flowers to the kids. If your knight wins, a celebratory lanyard will be given to one person in the audience. Show: They have horses doing lots of dressage (dancing/tricks). The falconer was cool. Jousting was awesome. The first thing you notice is how well they move the crowd to assigned seating areas based on your status as a VIP or just an ordinary person. Some will be eating dinner and they all sit together. Some areas are considered better views and pay more. Once seated you will be instructed how to place your mug to receive soda or whatever you will drink. The food comes stage by stage, bread and soup first, then a full chicken, then corn on the cob, potato and ending with pudding eclair. There are plenty of things to buy souvenir wise with vendors roaming and selling. After the food, the server comes by with the expectation of a tip based on your ticket price. The show has six to eight horses in a ring surrounded by spectators most times. Some of whom are eating. The show has horses that are nice looking doing various tricks they have been taught. Some fighting is simulated. It is as loud as a nightclub sound system, measured at 85 dB at my table, with music, announcements, and audio of the actors very audible. There are no bad seats anywhere so don't pay extra for a better location, they are all great. The food is served without flatware, you eat with bare hands a big old chicken. It depends on how you take tearing down a chicken and eating with your hands just how much fun you think it is. Some might find watching the action while eating great, others might find it a distraction; the server had to scream at the top of her lungs as did the customers to reply. It was not as much fun as you might think having course after course being delivered. The seating is somewhat smaller leg room wise than cheap airline seats, you can't get up or move, just sit there with cramped legs for two hours. They present a show, a dinner, an experience. Came here recently after they put on the new show and it is kind of different. First off they have these new glassware which I think are absolutely adorable. We had to get the whole set. The icees tasted great as well as their other drinks. When we got to our table we were served food with no utensils so we get the feel of how it would be to eat the medieval way. It was all very tasty and fun. The show itself was different because it didn't have four colors. It now has six colors. Love how a bunch of people also cosplay or dress up medieval style while attending this event. Everyone was hyping up their knight whoever we assign to as we walk in. My partner and I decided on a whim that we would go to Medieval Times, because who doesn't want to root for a preassigned knight to beat other knights in fun little obstacles? During the show, you're served your meals with just a plate and a bowl, so you're eating out of it like in the medieval times. The meal we had was bread, tomato soup, a giant chicken thigh/leg, potato, corn, and enclair for dessert. Soda's also included, and you can grab some boozy slushies too. The knights jousting and fighting was just ok. It's all scripted and predictable. Plenty of parking Show is good for all ages If you're debating this Medieval Times or the one in Vegas. I recommend the one at Excalibur in Vegas. I thought the story and action were much better. read more

Just this whole system of what medieval times is. Horrible treatment of horses. I had to go for a birthday party and I regret it to the highest extent. Horses have hearing and the loud music is killing their hearing. You can see their ears turn back when people scream and the loud music which shows they don't like it. Also they keep them in restraints so they are spitting everywhere, so you know they hate it too. They also whip them, not hard, but definitely not fun to watch. Not worth 70-100 bucks, barely even fun even I would like to watch medieval stuff, which I don't, but the horse mistreatment made it 100000000000000000000000000 times worse. Wish I could get my money back to save those horses from this. This is their life, what a shame. I went here this past Saturday for a friends bday. Got seated relatively easy and they were able to accomodate 2 people who bought tickets late and got them upgraded to the rest of the group since the original set bought upgraded tickets. They asked for allergens there and told someone in the group allergic to pistachios and peanuts to avoid the bread as it had peanuts. However, when we sat and got the bread, they said there weren't any peanuts in the bread. Confusing so we just avoided that all together The food was subpar. If you're hungry I'd go elsewhere because it's simply just 1 choice for Chicken, Bread, Tomato Soup, Eclaire desert and it is really MEH. Honestly if we coulda got tickets without the food, I would've done that and gotten better food somewhere else. Also the drink server, who was separate from the server, came around just once. In the entire show we just had 1 drink and that service was subpar. You'll have to go outside to the bar to get more. Also you're kinda rushed to eat the food and whatnot - they wasted no time trying to clean and collect for their next performance. Lastly, it is funnily ironic that on your way out you have like 10 bartenders all trying to huck you drinks before you leave vs when you come in. The performance was pretty good, but the introduction was way too long and not enough actual jousting/games. For $95, I probably wouldn't come here again, but the experience is good for just 1 visit I guess. read more

Love coming here every year to celebrate our birthdays. Rarely does our knight win but its a fun experience still. Inside is a cool medieval theme, clean and well stocked. The food is tasty. First course is garlic bread and tomato soup. Then comes the half chicken, potatoe and corn. The seasoning is usually good and the chicken was hot and juicy this time. We had great server and an amazing time. We did opt for the birthday upgrade but the cake was terrible overly sweet icing and soggy cake. The house dessert cannoli was also terrible tasted so old and gross. Thats ok though we ended up going to Portos next door for desserts. read more

Although Medieval Times is definitely something to check out once in your life, I wouldn't say it's completely worth the price. The show was lackluster, but the food was great! My favorite part of the show was the falconry. The jousting was sub par and did not hold a candle to similar dinner theater shows I've been to. Despite this, the place was packed to the brim with happy (mostly drunk and loud) patrons. I would recommend using the restrooms during the show, or close to the end because the line will get ridiculously long. Also, come at least 30 minutes early to ensure you get parking! read more
