Restaurant Week is a perfect time to find a great restaurant. It's easy to take a chance on a $$$ restaurant when you're not paying full price. Le Provencal Bistro is a warm inviting place where the service is exceptional, and the French food is delectable. We started with the Avocado Smoked Salmon, and French meatballs with polenta. Both were very flavorful. For entrees we chose Beef Bourguignon, Coq Au Vin, and John Dory Filet. Each dish was thoroughly enjoyed. Chocolate Mousse topped this luscious lunch off. I've eaten here more than a dozen times - haven't been able to get there in a couple months, but hopefully soon! It has a great vibe/ambiance/aesthetic, my favorite is the outside seating, but I like the bar area too. The food is great - my favorites are the avocado toast, the quinoa plate with burrata, duck confit, & of course the coq au vin. No complaints about the service, standard upscale type service, although the maître d', or whoever the guy is that greets the customers, always has a smile on his face and is very welcoming. read more

We dined here last week for our anniversary, and while we had a good time overall, the experience was underwhelming. Service started off confusing, with two different people trying to wait on us, though it was eventually sorted out and service was fine after that. The food, however, was disappointing. The foie gras was nearly tasteless, and my husband's onion tart and Crab Louis were nothing special--just a small pie shell with caramelized onions and a plate of crab meat covered in way too much dressing that tasted like bottled French dressing. The beet salad, on the other hand, was very good and well-balanced. I also had the onion soup, which was served with a single crouton that had cheese on it--an odd presentation choice. This spot is a cozy spot for dinner! It's very clean and the servers are very kind and welcoming. I didn't get the name of my server but he was very funny and was very helpful in deciding dishes. I got the Beef Bourguignonne, Lobster Bisque, French Onion Soup, Seafood Risotto, Crème Brûlée and the Bread Pudding. I can't quite remember which cocktail I ordered but it was light and refreshing. It was my first time having Beef Bourguignonne and I enjoyed it very much. The meat was tender and pulled apart so easily and the green beans were nice and crunchy. This would be the dish I'd come back for! The seafood risotto was a generous portion and equally delicious. There were many bits of seafood which I appreciated and the creaminess of the risotto made me want to eat more and more of it. I loved the plating of it as well! The only dish I wasn't the biggest fan of was the lobster bisque. I was expecting it to be creamy but it was very watery. I ended the night with 2 desserts which were the crème brûlée and bread pudding with ice cream. My favorite was the bread pudding. It tasted like a warm cake and pairing it with the ice cream made it all that much tastier. It was the perfect dessert to end the meal. This is a great spot for a romantic date night! Had a really enjoyable experience here during restaurant week. We got the escargot, meatballs, and crab cake for appetizers. The garlic butter with the escargot was perfect to dip bread into. The meatballs were probably my least favorite - tasted kind of like meatloaf, but the polenta was nice and everyone else enjoyed the meatball. The crab cake wasn't overly breaded which is really nice. The steak was soooo good. Had that nice char on it, was cooked well, and I had leftovers! Le Provençal serves up French classics and other fare with the kind of love and balance of flavor that you hope to find at a bistro. Dinner for two and we split an appetizer (the beet salad on special) and each got an entree (beef bourguignonne and the Milanese chicken special) and a extra side of pommes frites (note: these took shoestring fries to a whole other level, they were yummy but not very potato-ey, see photo.) While the beet salad was unremarkable and somewhat small for the $17 price tag, the entrees were absolutely delicious. I was glad to have ordered the extra side, as the entree portions were also on the smaller side, though the food was so rich you wouldn't really want more. We finished the meal with two scoops of sorbet -- one lemon which was average, and one mango which was exceptional -- which came with some fresh strawberries and was the perfect way to finish off the meal. The service was excellent and the experience overall was really enjoyable and makes any occasion feel special. I hope to repeat this experience and hopefully give them a fifth star, but for now, I had to knock it a for a few little reasons. First: while the portion size and prices are not totally unreasonable given the high quality and richness of the food, you do have to order a lot of dishes and therefore spend a lot of money to really enjoy a meal here -- one entree per person is not going to cut it without extra sides and appetizers. Second: the atmosphere, which seems to be striving for intimate and upscale, could have been greatly improved if the lights were on a little less bright. It seemed odd that they had been barely dimmed at 8pm on a Saturday night, but it may have something to do with the mature clientele they seem to be primarily serving here. Third: while I really appreciated the variety of non-alcoholic drink options, I was surprised that my mocktail was tiny, tasted like a melted jolly rancher, and cost about as much as other cocktails with top shelf booze in them. That said, Le Provençal is a really excellent restaurant overall, and I look forward to dining here on future special occasions, hopefully when the weather is a little warmer and the outdoor seating is available! read more

Had a terrific lunch there. Was there for the first time, and sat outside. It was a sunny day. The tables were set beautifully. To start, I ordered grilled asparagus with the truffle Fried egg on top. My friend had the mesclun salad. The asparagus was perfect, very tender, with a perfectly soft fried egg on top and a hint of truffle and Parmesan. Absolutely delicious. The salad was cold, crisp and delicious with a nice mustard vinaigrette. Very refreshing. For entrées, we got the mussels with the french fries, and the pork shank Provençal. The mussels were incredible with a wonderful broth of leeks and tarragon. I absolutely loved my pork shank, which was in a great red sauce served with a risotto of spring vegetables. It was a masterpiece! For dessert, we both ordered the lemon tart. What can I say! It was superior to any lemon dessert I've ever had! The crust was so buttery and graham crackery and delicious. The lemon curd was tart and perfect. The service was excellent, the employees were extremely polite and nice. Everyone was masked. It was a wonderful lunch experience! I will be back! read more

Fabulous! Love this place! Adorable place in the very restaurant crowded town of Mamaroneck. Service was spot on and the food was delicious! We had the John Dory which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The Moules "Poulette" Steamed Mussels with pommes frites was nothing short of spectacular and make sure you get some extra bread to soak up that delicious broth. This restaurant is unwelcoming and unprofessional. No greeting!! You don't point to a table and say "that is your table." We sat -- finally someone came over to take our drink order. He was not our waiter, but he stepped up. We ordered everything for fear we would have to wait. The food was flavorful / beef bourguignon / not a huge portion. Desserts excellent. A fancy French restaurant in a cozy setting complete with white linens. I didn't expect fine dining of this caliber in a small town such as Mamaroneck. It is walkable through town or about 5 minutes from the train station. Very classic dishes and done to perfection. But on the contrary, their onion soup is somewhat different and it has a lemon scent/taste which completely masks any onion flavor to my liking. I will not order again or recommend. My lobster bisque was delicious (and actually lobster bisque, which is hard to find these days), my mussels were great. To be clear this is closer to a 4 star restaurant, but a few quirks knocked it down. We have been here a few items in the past, although not for a while and it changed owners since. We read the reviews and while some were off in our opinion, some we agree with. So here is our take: First the atmosphere is very warm and classic French Bistro. our server was a young woman who was very pleasant and overall very knowledgeable of the menu. There were quite a few specials and she rattled them off with ease and was able to answer questions. So service really wasn't an issue at all. Wine List: Here's where I was a bit disappointed. I own a wine shop so when going to a restaurant that specializes in foods of a specific region I like to see a selection of wines that represent the food being served. The list was somewhat limited, with French wines very underrepresented. There were only 2 or 3 Bordeaux, and a few from other regions. The rest of the list was American and Italian. Prices were fair, but a few higher end French options would have been nice. We chose a Margaux that cost around $75 and was good. I would have paid a little more for something a little more special as it was our anniversary, but the wine was enjoyable, even if not a stand out. Food: Another place where I felt they were trying to be French, but went a little askew with some odd items. Such as a Kobe Beef Burger for a Dinner entree (a sandwich just seems out of place at a white tablecloth restaurant IMHO) and a Lobster Pasta dish on the menu. But I guess they want to offer some more options. To start we got warm bread and olive oil. My wife ordered the Onion Soup which was on special. She was a little disappointed as it was extremely thick with onions but not enough soup to balance it. Also it was served in a bowl with some bread in it and a little cheese melted on the bread, as opposed to a crock crusted with cheese. I ordered the Foie Gras. It was a cold Foie Gras. It was delicious. two large slabs Served on french bread with orange marmalade on the side. It was like butter. So I recommend the dish, but just know it is not a cooked Foie Gras. For the mains my wife ordered the Sea Scallops. She enjoyed them, but they were on the small side for Sea Scallops. I ordered the Duck Confit. From the description and a previous reviewer that complained it was not truly a confit, I have to agree. Don't get me wrong, the dish was very good but was more like a braised duck leg in port wine sauce that a true confit. It had their wonderful matchstick fires on the side. Not true Pomme Frites as on the menu but better in my opinion, and worth a side order if not included with the meal. For dessert we had profiteroles and a poached pear. The profiteroles were classically prepared and seemed homemade. Very good! The Poached pear was served with pistachio Sorbet and a chocolate sauce -- similar to the profiteroles. I felt the Chocolate sauce was unnecessary and an odd choice to match with pistachio Sorbet and pear. I would just leave it off as it overpowered the delicate pear. Otherwise it was good. We had Cappuccinos and they were good, but not very hot. So overall we will definitely come back again. We enjoyed the meal. I just feel the menu needs to rework some of the descriptions and perhaps rethink a few ingredients. Also an expanded wine list with more French options would be great. read more

Great little French bistro right on the always-bustling Mamaroneck Ave. The $17.95 Two Course Prix-Fixe lunch menu has several options from which to choose (although it should be noted that many of them cost a few dollars extra). My dining companion is gluten-averse and Le Provencal offers many options for those with such restriction. Our server was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. The interior is classic French and very inviting. The back window offers plenty of light. My order from the Prix-Fixe menu was Lobster Bisque with Fresh Basil and Lobster (+ $2) and Organic Chicken Breast au Jus with Goat Cheese, Asparagus, Apple, Walnuts, Mesclun (+ $4). The bisque was a flavorful and had wonderful chunks of lobster. My only complaint would have been that it could stand to have a little more lobster chunks but it was tasty nonetheless. My chicken entree was also tasty and the chicken was remarkably moist. It all felt light yet satisfying. All in all, a great dining experience and I'm looking forward to coming back and trying out other things. read more

Like all the French energy Le Provençal brings to Mamaroneck. It's cozy with an almost cool French Bistro flair. Design says French from top to bottom: yellow walls, French doors and windows with that extra country French oomph all over. For a quick second, almost makes you feel like you're in the countryside. Absolutely liked the flowing energy here. Tom, received us warmly and made sure we had a pleasant dinner. Appetizers and main courses were fabulous and cooked to perfection. For me, dinner has to be great, but what rings my bell is a real good Chocolate Dessert. Service was great. However, the table next to ours continuously asked the servers (not once or twice) about whether certain items were "gluten free". To add on to that, the whole dialogue was within earshot- so we heard everything. Call ahead- why don't you and ask all your 50+ necessary dietary questions- especially since tables are at close proximity of each other. I thought it was annoying and disruptive. Please don't think I'm insensitive to anyone's dietary needs, because I'm not, but do call in advance to address your concerns before dinner. Altogether, we will return. read more

dinner as always delicious except for one dish...we were served an Onion tart which was not very good.It was a glob of cooked onions served in a pre made sweet shell more suited to a dessert.I have had onion tarts and this one was not up to par. My problem is when I mentioned it to the manager he said they have always served it that way,I doubt it..usually they are a small flat pie with a plain crust..this one had to be broken apart as neither knife nor fork could cut it!The shell was a cookie all and all this is a lovely restaurant which has never failed before on a dish.. read more
