An absolutely beautiful restaurant! The atmosphere inside is stunning, but still manages to feel cozy and homey. It's what I imagine a restaurant in France would be like. We dined on the patio on a lovely Saturday evening. Our server was extremely attentive and welcoming. I ordered the faux-jito, a NA twist on the classic mojito. It was perfectly light and refreshing. We started with the fresh ciabatta which was served with two types of butter. One was more savory with chives and the other was a sweet, berry butter. Both were delicious, but the berry one was the clear winner! The soft bread paired with fresh butter made for a great starter. Highly recommend! I ordered the burger for my main and really enjoyed it! The only downside was I asked for it medium well and it came out more well done, but the flavors were still super delicious. My husband went with the steak and loved it. We can't wait to dine at Le Sud again and explore more of the menu! read more

Successful date night at Le Sud for Chicago Restaurant Week 2025! First of all this place is so darn cute with the heart decorations coming from the ceiling and gorgeous wine wall staircase. You are greeted in the front near a beautiful vintage cabinet and will be promptly seated (just make sure you book a reservation in advanced)! We went with the restaurant week menu and wanted to try so many different items, we were pleasantly surprised by all the options available for the small and large plates. We ordered the Moroccan meatballs which were wonderfully seasoned and the croquettes which my husband devoured very quickly. For our mains: the classic steak frites + risotto paella. Sides: We split the broccolini. Both were flavorful, cooked well, and well portioned. Star of the show was he garlic lemon taste of the broccolini--We fought over the last piece it's that good. For desserts we had the cheesecake and lava cake. Drinks: white/red wine (smooth), French martini (amazing), le sud martinez (excellent), and espresso martini (very pleasant). The place: pretty large spot. Was decorated to the nines for the holidays. Lots of lights and ornaments. Unfortunately one rather large and pointy ornament fell about 3 inches away from a patron in our section. Luckily no one was hurt, but not exactly in line with the festive spirit. Service was fine. The taste: the lamb lollipops were nicely done. We also shared the Brussels sprouts, steak and potatoes, and possibly one more dish. My face: not uber impressed, but overall does have kind of a sexy vibe. $150 for three of us to share some dishes and a few mocktails. 4 starts because I do think I'd go back even though it's not inexpensive. Hospitality is alive and well at Le Sud! Went for my birthday and they put out multiple special touches to help me celebrate. You don't come across service like this that cares often anymore, this a very special place! The food was cooked to perfection, really enjoyed the meatballs and whipped feta! The white fish was amazing. Octopus salad was fantastic. We came the day after valentines and they had hearts strung from the ceiling through the whole room, it was magical. Le Sud - Prendre Deux 5 years and Le Sud is still going strong so time to revisit A beautiful July night and our table of 6 is running late for our 7:00 outdoor reservation. They keep our table and have us promptly seated when we arrive. Our waiter - Vernon - is prompt, professional and full of advice and suggestions (a huge positive after our last experience). Drinks come quickly followed by a couple salads and lamb meatballs. All solid and good choices. Sadly the star of our last visit, the carrots, were not on the menu. On to the main courses - 2 filets, 2 frites and 2 pork chops (yes, trying the pork again). I would like to say that after 5 years that everything was incredible. Sadly, that was not the case. Steaks all came out medium well and lukewarm even though 2 were ordered medium rare and 2 medium. The pork chops (and only thing I took a picture of), while favorable, also came out lukewarm but still very edible vs the prior visit. Overall, an ok experience and probably a 3.5 which was rounded up to a 4. Now if only they brought back the carrots... read more

I recently hosted a baby shower at Le Sud. We chose this restaurant because we wanted to support a local restaurant in our community. From the initial contact with the owner, Sandy, to the shower itself, the process was seamless and perfect. I had some unusual requirements for some of our guests and Sandy accommodated them all. The staff who worked our event were professional and VERY efficient. The food was outstanding! Sandy worked with us to refine the menu, even going so far as to make a special dish for a vegan guest. I have had so many comments from our guests as to how good the food was. The food was served family style and there was definitely enough with some left overs. (Favorite dish by far was the quiche.) We hosted the event upstairs in the Salle du Soleil. The room was set up with one long table for all the guests and there was room to walk on both sides. We had a gift table as well as a photo corner so lots of room. I was able to see the room beforehand so I knew to keep the centerpieces small. Everything was perfect!!! Just visited here lastnight with two friends for Chicago Restaurant Week. We were greeted by our server and started with a round of tequila shots. Unsure what the brand was, but it was reposado tequila and went down very smooth. For my appetizer, I had the Santorini salad which was awesome. I'm a slow eater and made sure to savor every bite until it was done. I almost want to come back just for the salad! My first cocktails were the Le Sud martini and the Rosemary martini. The Le Sud put me in the mind of a cosmopolitan; not terrible. It was good and strong but I could've done without it. The Rosemary martini was earthy as expected and quite boozy. Next time I'll stick to the tequila shots or order my favorite cocktail from the bar instead of the menu. For my entrée I had the filet mignon for a $6 up charge which was butterflied and cooked to medium well perfection. Although a little bit salty, it was amazing. The texture was buttery and every bite was savory- everything you want in a steak. We sat and talked and enjoyed our dinner and cocktails. The atmosphere is sexy enough for a date yet cozy and cute enough for a night out with friends. We will definitely return! read more

I haven't been here in a while, but I had a fantastic experience tonight. This is the Le Sud I know and love! My friend and I dined here on a Wednesday evening, and we were pleasantly surprised that it was Wine Wednesday: half off almost all bottles of wine. Woo hoo! In addition to a lovely Pinot Noir, we enjoyed the burrata appetizer, which truly was one of the best burratas I have ever had. I had the potato gnocchi with shrimp for my entree, which was delicious and quite filling. Our server was fabulous and the whole experience was delightful. Great value for what we had, too. Met up with a group of friends for brunch on a busy Sunday morning here after wanting to try this place for a while. The food was, for the most part, pretty good, ambiance was cute, and service was meh. A friend and I split the croque madame and smoked salmon bagel - both were good, but we both agreed the smoked salmon bagel was just okay compared to the croque madame. Another friend ordered the kale salad and said it was nothing but dry kale with barely any dressing. My husband had the banana crepes, which he said were enjoyable, but sadly the kitchen forgot his order so he got his food towards the end of the rest of us finishing our meals. I'd definitely return to try some other items, but maybe not on a busy Sunday morning. (And probably wouldn't get that salad or smoked salmon bagel.) read more

Another highly mixed experience. Probably the worst so far. The good: oysters Rockefeller, bread, pasta dish. Friendly server. The bad included disorganized service with multiple attempts to deliver items we didn't order to our table, the cramped, unpleasant and buggy patio and the salad nicoise was disappointing. The by-the-glass wines were very average at best, albeit at high prices and $9 for a beer is outrageous. Also, the QR codes are tacky anywhere, but especially at this price point. Overall we did not have a very good dinner experience. The food was ok, overpriced for what it was, very long wait times, and lacking service. We waited 1.5 hours to get our main food, 45 min for our appetizers, all the while mostly being ignored by our waiter. The entire time the long wait was never acknowledged by our servers and we saw our server very rarely, so we couldn't even order more drinks as we waited. He took our two drinks off the bill at the very end without any prompting, which is appreciated, though what I would prefer is better service *during the experience* and at the very least an acknowledgement of the poor wait times. Instead we sat there waiting for food, not knowing how much longer it was going to be, contemplating ordering another glass of wine if the wait was going to be much longer, but also not seeing our waiter the whole time. Then the food was just ok. Prices are WAY too high for what it is. Croquettes are good, but nothing special about them to justify the price in my opinion. $18 grilled halloumi was very small, quite simple, and a little bland. It was recommended by our waiter. My lamb bolognese linguine dish was fine. It was flavorful, but the noodles were a little over cooked and completely not worth $26, even for the higher end dining experience this establishment is going for and comparing to similar establishments in the area. The mussels were the standout dish and I would recommend those. The ambiance is the best part, with a warm and inviting old European vibe going on. Maybe we'll be back to try some of the other items, but most likely not for a full sit down experience again. read more

This review is a thank you to the restaurant team. My son has several food allergies, including wheat. It is extremely difficult to go out to eat and find one option that's safe for him, let alone several. Since first coming to Le Sud with him a month ago, we've been back every weekend almost and plan to continue. The team is very knowledgeable about to accommodate. And for my celiacs or wheat allergy people, the fryer is gluten free and they make some of the best fries I've ever had! The food is all delicious, and even more delicious knowing how accommodating they are. We've had several appetizers and entrees and liked them all. My favorites are the burger (no bun) and scallops. The happy hour is a great deal for drinks, and again, fries are on there! They also have a rewards program! Overall I liked this place before we had my son, and I love it now knowing there is a restaurant making amazing allergy friendly food! Plus, vibes are super cute and they're always decorating for the holidays. And they are very kid friendly! read more

LOVE! This place is amazing. The croquettes were to DIE for - light and airy but so flavorful and delicious. I splurged for the steak frites and was not disappointed!!! The steak was delicious and it came with a significant amount of fries which we can always appreciate. My friend got the burger and loved it. The decor is fun and cozy, and it truly feels like you are in France. We were lucky enough to chat with the owner during our visit, and she is lovely. I came for restaurant week and while the food was delicious, the service was lacking. I really don't think I would ever come back. The tone was set when they sat my friend and I next to the door, in the outdoor patio. I did reserve the patio area but if I had known we'd spend the entire evening having our seats whacked by people entering and exiting the area, I would've left and gone elsewhere. When I asked to move, they said "we have a plan" and just left it at that. Service for the rest of the evening was disappointing. I felt like I was always waiting - waiting for the server to get our dinner order in, waiting for someone to clear the course, waiting for them to come back with our credit cards. Just waiting. Waiting for them to put my cocktail order in and then come back saying they're out of the sangria. That was disappointing - the first cocktail on the menu and they were out of it. Disappointing. Food was delicious. I'll give them that. The French onion soup was tasty, the ibérico pork was flavorful, the crème brûlée was just the right amount of sweet. But I can't see going back. read more

Heard great things about Le Sud, so we finally came to try. We got seated at the table next to the back door and food runners' area- it was a bit tight and with people walking back and forth. Despite this, our server was very attentive, and surprisingly, the food came out timely. The Spanish Octopus and Duck Confit were perfectly cooked and had great flavors. These were the highlights of the night. Everything else was good, too. A couple items we thought were just average were the Grilled Shrimp (lacked seasoning) and Herb Chicken (too dry). We pulled up to this restaurant for the first time and immediately felt a warm welcome from the hostess, which was lovely. We were promptly seated in the patio which we thought was well decorated with the cool toned color scheme and plethora of plants. The round bistro-sized tables are kind of small especially when two people both have a couple drinks and food on the table all at once. The restaurant itself has a very warm and cozy feel for the interior and exterior, but it's a little snug especially when it's busy. I found myself sliding past people to get to the bathroom and back, but I appreciate the staff letting me pass first making it easier to maneuver through the restaurant. For appetizers, we went with lamb meatballs which were excellent, and the escargot which was just okay (very small pieces and a little too much cheese and oil for my taste so I probably wouldn't get that again). Our main dishes were the filet mignon and duck. The duck was delicious, but the accompanying fondant potatoes (3 of them lol) were dry and unseasoned. If I could give an overall 4.5 stars, I would, as we loved our server for being super friendly and accommodating. However the wait time for getting our drinks and the check were a little long. It was busy though, so we were fine. Overall we definitely enjoyed our time and would come back. read more

My wife and I have always loved La Sud! They have great food and happy hours and a nice patio! We've catered Christmas and Easter from them enjoyed evening dinners, and shared it with friends and family. But the other night we had to call and cancel a reservation last minute and I felt bad but it was one of those things. I called and the hostess asked if we could come later. I know how busy they get but she assured me she could fit me in. Good experience during our impromptu dinner. Had visited this restaurant again for a Yelp event where I was able to preview their appetizers. On this occasions we dined during Chicago Restaurant Week. They had a $42 menu which included 3 courses. There was an upcharge on certain items. We stayed away from the upcharge items. For drinks my husband got the fig old fashion and the french 75. For the 1st course we got Calamri and grilled Artichoke. 2nd course Shrimp Gnocchi and Seared Salmon. 3rd course Cheesecake and Pear Bread Pudding. All courses and food were delicious. Husband loved the fusion of flavor for the seared salmon. My Gnocchi was hearty and the sauce was "butta." I really enjoyed my pasta dish but would of liked my shrimp to be cooked harder (not sure how to explain) maybe grilled or scampi'd. By far the bread pudding was my favorite. I was hesitant to order but it did not disappoint. Anyway we enjoyed our 1st resturant week dinner. We didn't have any leftovers but left satisfied. The enclosed outdoor patio was heated and quaint.
