Everybody who knows me, knows that I am VERY picky about who touches my hair! I have been making the drive all the way from San Diego to Beverly Hills every 8 weeks just to get my hair done by Crystal! She is absolutely amazing at color and cut, which from my experience is almost impossible to find a stylist who is great at both. Crystal does the blonde balayage on me and it always comes out looking so great. It is a very rich color job and still looks natural. She always listens to what I want and has great advice that I never regret taking after my appointment. Crystal is really as good as it gets, hence my 2-3 hour drive to see her! read more

My first experience with lea journo salon was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and they put the salon gown on me themselves, served coffee or water, and I felt like i was the most important person there. My first hair cut was with lea journo and was unbelievable. She recommended color and although it wasnt perfect color it was better than what I had coming in. I ended up paying 900$ and was a bit shocked as I had looked at leas website and the price was quoted much lower. However, the 2nd and then 3rd cut by owner was awful. She seemed to be angry and was yelling at the staff in front of customers. My final haircut with her was disastrous. It was very very short and although the first cut I felt beautiful but by the 3rd cut I felt unattractive. It took months to grow out enough to be comfortable with it. I also felt like the guy at front desk was hitting on me. I left knowing I wouldn't return. What I experienced with the owner was inconsistency and the staff seemed demoralized somewhat by the 3rd visit. No doubt from being yelled at in front of customers. I was disappointed and will continue to look for a stylist I can count on. read more

This review is mostly for Jesus Barrera, who has been doing my hair for ten years! I will follow this stylist anywhere he goes! Not only is the color he gives me natural looking, but he does it in a way that grows out well, so you don't have to feel embarrassed if you can't get back to have your roots done for a while. His cuts are also fantastic- they are extremely easy to self style, and they grow out extraordinarily well. He is well worth the experience and money! I cannot say enough good about this stylist! The salon itself is friendly and inviting. The atmosphere is full of natural light, and who doesn't love getting to walk through one of the best hotels in Beverly Hills to get there. Overlooking the pool adds playfulness to the atmosphere, and the entire hotel staff is helpful and accommodating. I hate giving away my stylist's name, but he really is the best. Just keep room for me in your books, Jesus! read more

Armando is such a gem of a stylist. He's a dream. He is kind and smart and funny and true. He will listen to you, guide you, talk to you about what's practical for your life AND make your wishes come true. It's quite a feat. I started seeing him for a simple blow-out and quickly grew into cuts and my complex color. Now I wouldn't dream of letting anyone else do my color or cut. Finding Armando is like finding the right romantic relationship after kissing a lot of frogs: you ask youself, "WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING ALL MY LIFE?????" and you think, "OH, THIS IS WHAT THEY WRITE THOSE SONGS ABOUT." uh-huh. he's that good. i've had some GREAT high-end stylists -- but Armando is on a different plane. I don't know how else to explain it except that he's special, truly. Whe he first did my color -- starting with stripping out a bad color job -- he worked on me for many careful hours, on a Sunday, to get it just right. I get so many compliments on my hair. I really adore the services he provides. EVERYONE is great at Lea Journo -- all the assistants --especially Jennifer, Jefferson at the front desk, the aesthetician has given me the best brows EVER -- and Lea herself is part mother, part Parisian Goddess, part Vogue stylist -- i LOVE her. I have never bothered to write a Yelp review of any kind but felt like I just had to about Armando -- he's that good. Also, if you feel at all intimidated by going to the Beverly Wilshire or to such a fancy salon -- don't. The people at Lea Journo treat EVERYONE with total respect. I roll in in a cotton sundress and chucks and not a stich of makeup and feel so at home. They are really welcoming and not one bit snooty. Go. See Armando. Tell him Anna sent you. I've been to this salon in the beautiful Beverly Wilshire Hotel, I'm new in town and didn't know anyone...I've found a very friendly atmosphere, in an elegant environment. But most of all, I've found the hairstylist we all dream about: super nice, charming, he really listens to you, to your needs and your fears, and puts all his attention and passion in creating something beautiful. I've totally felt safe and very happy with the final result. His name is Marc Bensemhoun. He's French, and has rally got the French charm and talent for beauty! Amazing. read more

A friend of mine recommended Marc Bensemhoun at Lea Journo Salon. I have to say I really liked my other hairdresser in Venice; however I am now a converted fan of Marc's. I've been going to him for about 4 months... I had medium length hair and he literally transformed my hairstyle into a super fashionable shorter cut with lot's of movement and I receive so many compliments. My haircut is so easy to do as well and he explains how to recreate the look (and he also gave me alternative ways to wear my hair (slicked back, hair tucked behind the ears, change bang direction, etc...). I love it! He is a total pro so if you are looking for a new style or just want to do something a little different, Marc will see the vision for you. Listen to him.... he knows what he's doing. He not only took lots of hair off my head but also took 10 years off my face (so say my mates) He's the ONLY one that will be touching my hair from now on! Xaviere, a senior stylist, does a beautiful blowout. I love sexy loose curls look and he really delivered on that. He carefully put each curl into a pincurl so that the curls would last--unlike curling iron curls, which just fall out. The ambience is also great. Nothing like looking out on the pool while you're getting your hair done. Certainly pricey, but the result is worth it. If you're staying at the BW or even if you're in the area and need your hair done, this is definitely the place to go. read more

WONDERFUL SALON. I love Lea Journo, specifically Xavier, whom I have been seeing for a little over two years. Xavier is a true genius with color and cut. I have been to many different stylists in the LA area, and Xavier exceeds anyone else I have seen by leaps and bounds. His eye for color is un paralleled. I am blonde, but often like slight changes in tone or brightness to freshen things up a bit, and each time he really listens to the request, and executes it so effortlessly. Its not always easy to get the exact blonde I like, and still look natural, but Xavier pulls it off every time. He is also such a calm and loving energy, that you feel immediately at ease in his chair. He always takes his time, and I walk away feeling pampered and gorgeous. I was fortunate enough to spend a few nights at the Beverly Wilshire, and my brother was in desparate need of a haircut. It was a Sunday, and he happened to be at the Concierge Desk, and mentioned it. In Beverly Wilshire tradition, the concierge immediately went to work. They called the salon immediately, and asked if he would like 10:00 or 11:00. 11:00 it was. From the minute we walked into the salon, we knew it was going to be an experience that could only be experienced in Beverly Hills. He will be taking over from here: She's right. I sat down in the chair and Armando looked at the mop that was my hair, and asked what I needed. I laughed, and said that he was going to hearn his commission from me. And boy did he. It is the most professional, incredibly haircut I have ever received, but in no way was it stuffy, nor did I feel strange being the only male client there. And a quick word about his assistant, she was amazing. She gave me some treatment (conditioner, maybe, who the hell cares) and I have NEVER had a head massage like that. To say nothing of her attentiveness to little hairs in my face. Armando was so focused and gave such an extraordinary haircut, I was disappointed when it was over. But in 47 years, can honestly say, I have never gotten a better haircut, and been relaxed and having fun at the same time. Whenever I'm in Los Angeles, I will see him, whether I'm staying at the Beverly Wilshire or not. Okay, the price? $100. Without tips. Worth it? Yes. read more

Crystal Pray is amazing and so is her fantastic mentor and salon owner, Lea Journo. I have had the same stylist for 15 years and I am leaving because his customer service skills are atrocious and he always cuts my hair different (in recent years he has not been consistent but treats me like shit when i want to come back the next week because my hair is not laying right). Leaving your hair stylist is very stressful but after my good friend (who aslo has curly hair) sent me to Crystal-I got the best haircut in years! Lea (who is also amazing) came over and consulted on the cut because she could see that I was stressed. I am SO HAPPY with the result! NOW- several people have commented on how great my hair is and that has not happened in a very very long time. Crystal also color corrected my color. Both she and Lea said the color and dark low lights made me look older. They colored by hair with more natural blonde tones and bright blonde highlights with dark brown low lights and everyone is commenting. This salon is a find and I SO HAPPY i made the transition. read more

I've been meaning to write about Xavier Coll at Lea Journo salon since the 1st time he did my color and cut over a year ago. I moved to Los Angeles from NYC 2 years ago and searched for a salon, a person, people, anyone who could even remotely replicate my color, but to no avail. Instead, I got promises from salons, etc. that they could "absolutely" keep my hair the way it was, the way I wanted it... and, in every case, my hair was wrecked. I'm a no-fuss, no makeup (most of the time) person, perhaps because my hair has always been my accessory, so to speak. My goal w/ my hair is to, literally be able to wake up, pull it down from the ponytail/bun after sleep, shake it and be able to walk out the door with gorgeous hair, without even checking in the mirror. Sexy, feminine and simply beautiful. It took the amazing people at Butterfly Salon in NYC and me 8 years to create my hairs' color and style and Xavier after careful, thoughtful, masterful work, got it back on his first attempt (just by looking at photographs of it I brought him). The color and cut gets better as as the days and even months go on--- the sign of a true Artist, like a great painter or author.... Not only did he recreate what I loved, but as time goes by, he has taken his mastery and my hair to new levels, that are simply extraordinary. He is a visionary with a profound aesthetic of [a persons] skin tone with respect to hair color and cut, taking into full consideration their style, lifestyle, job, height, maintenance desire, etc.-- it's rare and truly extraordinary. Xavier is a master in both color and cut/styling, bar none (and, i've brought friends to him who feel the same). at last, i've arrived in L.A. knowing Xavier is here.
