Heck, he was even able to skate the bowl within a pretty short period of time. With each lesson and plenty of practice, he continues to improve and build his skills. I saw a complaint about the classes not being suitable for beginners, but I've found that some beginners--like our son--actually benefit more from one-on-one lessons. With any new sport, it can be challenging in a group setting to get the individual attention needed, especially when some kids naturally have better balance or are more comfortable staying focused in a group. Not every child learns the same way, and for some, a more personalized approach makes a big difference. That said, I think the group lessons work really well for most kids--especially those who are just trying to see if they enjoy skating and are comfortable taking direction in a larger group setting. Also, a quick piece of advice--figure out your child's riding stance. From there, get a decent board (it doesn't have to be expensive) and have it set up to match their style. That usually means fine-tuning things like truck tightness, bushing hardness, and deck size so it fits their weight, balance, and preference for stability versus maneuverability. The staff at Val Surf were fantastic in helping us find the right setup for our son. If you can, try to avoid the cheaper boards from big-box stores like Walmart or Target. They're often made with lower-quality materials and aren't properly adjusted for your child's needs. That can actually make learning harder and, in some cases, turn kids off from the sport altogether simply because they're not having a good experience on a poor-quality board.

Before my child get a chance to learn how to ride the skate property on flat, the class was working on some tricks and skating at the bowl. My child has tripped a lot because he didn't get a chance to learn basics like how to properly stand on the board or how to push the board, and how to fall down safely. Just like any other sports, learning basics is so important and that is exactly why I signed up my child for the class as a beginner instead of just self learn on the street and this school couldn't provide our need. There was no hand to hand lecture, and the instructor doesn't care about the beginner at all. Imagining how scary it was for the little heart for being left alone in the skatepark on the first day just breaks my heart.

After I had lunch with a friend of mine yesterday, I decided to stop by at this particular store in Van Nuys to check out the store, and if they had what I was looking for. Yes they did! I needed boxing gloves since I take a class, a women's sports bra in black, (was on clearance rack 50% off). Not too shabby. I also needed a folding chair that I can use to sit outside. I found the exact chair in the color that I was looking for. It was $15 NOT/including tax. It even has a cup holder which is a plus. I also needed a Foam Roller for my back. Got that too. Last, but not least, I needed 2 and half pound dumbbells. They had pink and black. I went with the pink color. That's all I needed from this store yesterday. Everything was nicely organized, got a very nice welcome from 2 of their employees, store was clean with decent sized parking lot, and they did have a bathroom. Love Big 5. Bought a Velotric online, with seat, post and mirror extras, to be built for pickup in shop. The…read moreconfirmation said they'd email me with instructions. No email after a week, so I emailed to ask the status and was told the main extra (shock absorber post) was being shipped there and would arrive within a week, and asked me to pick it up and bring it back in when the part arrived. I wrote back that I don't drive unless I have to (medical), have never ridden an e-bike so would be transporting it home to learn to ride it, and so asked him to store it until the part was in and it was a full build. Scott accommodated, and I got a fully built PERFECT bike for me yesterday. Scott helped me load it into my SUV (a tight fit, so grateful for his help) and I shook his hand. Got it home, unloaded it, and am more than excited to learn a new healthy habit. Thank you, Scott!

The store is pretty big inside and they have alot of clothing. Their prices seem reasonable from what I saw. They also have other things too like watches, sunglasses, backpack and etc. The staff was nice with me since the moment I walked inside. Everyone greeted me and then asked if I needed any help.
