We recently got to check out Ono when one of our fave comedians, Sam Miller, was performing there. I'd never been to Ono, but was pleasantly surprised to see it was located in the legendary Kombucha Town spot under the Herald Building. "Back in the day" we had a few great Yelp events in this exact space! Anyway... we were glad we arrived early, and were able to snag one of the last tables for our group of 4. We ordered a couple of beers and (at the bartender's urging) got our food order in because they were starting to get slammed. The Dude enjoyed his tasty bao buns, and I slumped down a hearty bowl of hot noodle soup with chicken. It was all delicious! As showtime got closer, the place was packed full with comedy fans. The bar line got long, and we could tell the servers felt a little frantic. Maybe they weren't expecting such a huge crowd, but I feel like things would have gone more smoothly if they'd been able to upstaff for the event. Ordinarily I wouldn't return to a place (and write a review) so quickly, but I really liked Ono when I first came, which was during the Bellingham Folk Festival. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to experience Ono's on a regular night. I was not disappointed. Ingrid, who served me the last time, was my server again. And she is wonderful! My companion and I were well cared for. Tonight's music was performed by CJ Helekahi, who is a regular on Fridays, I understand: wonderful! The beverages were great as usual. I wasn't really into the Bao Tacos like I thought I would be, but I absolutely could not stop exclaiming over the Ahi Nachos and the Garlic Shrimp. In each instance, the sauce was spectacular! I was practically licking the basket when the food was gone. And the shrimp, themselves, were large, juicy, flavorful and perfectly cooked--not a nanosecond over or under--just fabulous. Enjoyed the iced dessert: GURi GURi. All in all, another wonderful experience. Sweet place. Very Hawaiian feeling to me--love it. read more

Myself and two friends went to celebrate his birthday. We've all had lots of Hawaiian food - and have high standards. The drinks were very yummy, and the complementary pineapple with li hing powder was great. The food was so-so. The best thing we got was the shoyu chicken - besides that we got the bao bun tacos with kalua pig, the root vegetable salad, and the poké. The poké was not worth the money, it wasn't very good, and the chicken wings that we had were very fatty. It's also very loud and echoey in there! If we go back we'll probably just get drinks and apps. read more

Brought our family here for lunch and WOW! Our boys love Hawaiian food and this did not disappoint. I think it was the best chicken katsu I've ever had. We ended up with a few entres and each was amazing! Our server was awesome and guided us to some amazing choices. Man, this place is great! Went here tonight for the first time with some family from out of town. Went were seated immediately, service was on point. Everyone was super friendly and attentive, brought us wetnaps for the wings, which were easily my favorite wings I've had in town. The ahi nachos are one-of-a-kind and very good. We had a wide variety of entrees in our group of 8 so we got to try a lot of different stuff, all very good. Pacing was great, everything came out in good order and timely even though there were a lot of people there. We got the bartender's choice cocktails and they were super good! we also got dessert which was some really good purple cheesecake which I don't remember what it was called but some type of Hawaiian root maybe? and then some special Hawaiian soft serve sorbet-type-stuff that was super refreshing and a perfect cap to a great ensemble of interesting and delicious items. It's clear that the staff would rather not have any guests. Tried it twice, the food was definitely fine, but the atmosphere created by the standoffish crew is not something I wish to return to. Both times I came in, solo and with my partner, everybody just looked pissed off and were slow to extend a breath of hospitatility. I don't need that in my life. read more

This place has super slow service and the staff here is very non professional and not great at their jobs. They were very rude to me here and the food is super overpriced for what you get. I'm not sure where they get their ideas for the menu but it's not good food and they could really work on their presentation and service. The drinks here are also not great. read more

Service was very good, we didn't sit at the bar but the tables were still nice. Food was very yummy. We got the okra chips, musubi, edamame, and fried chicken as appetizers. We liked all of them except the fried chicken and the edamame. Usually we love edamame but it was a bit flavorless, could have used salt. For entrees I got the loco moco, which was delicious. It reminded me of Salisbury steak, but better. My partner got the Mahi burger which he really enjoyed as well. we did not get any alcoholic drinks but the coconut water was yummy and I got the "pog" which I'd never had before but it was kinda fruity and pretty good. read more

I added the house Hawaiian chili water and a few drops of their smoked shoyu to the Spam musubi, and transformed it into a 5-star, blue ribbon dish. Then I had their Chicken Katsu lunch plate (served in a giant bowl), and it was life-changing. Perfectly cooked chicken breast with a delicate and crispy fry. This was served with their gingery house katsu sauce, a huge scoop of Spam macaroni salad, fresh kimchi, and seasoned rice. I'm a huge fan. We're from Hawaii and picky about our local food, many choices but some were hit and miss. The best value is the plate lunch with kalua pork, Mac salad, rice and Kim chee. We tried the poke and it needed more flavor- maybe choices of spicy mayo, shoyu or wasabi would help. The chicken wings were a fav our table but a full order is only four large wings, we had to order another order since there were 5 of us. Ramen had grilled pork belly which was excellent but we didn't like the noodle, it was too starchy for our taste. There was only a bartender who also was our server. Went in for a quick dinner and was looking forward to trying the new menu. We ordered the tonkatsu ramen, pork belly buns, and lemongrass caesar salad with chicken katsu. Love the concept of this place but not so happy with the food and drinks. The food menu recently changed and not for the better. Used to like the ramen but it was a huge disappointment last time. Noodles were not good at all, very much like top ramen. The ramen egg wasn't marinated and was hard cooked. The pork belly was ok, but much prefer the way it used to be prepared. Didn't like my Mai tai, wasn't even close to the real thing. They should definitely not call it a Mai tai. Overall I like the atmosphere but sadly won't be ordering food there anymore. read more
