This is a great spot for plants that are actually rare at reasonable prices! The owners are extremely knowledgeable and gave very thorough care instructions. Only downside was that one of my plants was covered in mealybugs and the other had a couple aphids. Luckily I quarantined them for a couple days before I realized, so none of my other plants were infected. Just be wary if you have a large collection! read more

I'm from the Bay Area, but whenever I'm in LA, I make it a point to stop by the local plant shops. I was pleasantly surprised with this little plant shop. I imagined it would be full of basic plants you can find at all wholesale nurseries, but they had a very nice, uncommon selection and at reasonable prices too. I really enjoyed seeing all the hoya varieties. They had a few handmade, charming ceramic planters as well, which I am always on the hunt for. All the plants looked well taken care of, and there is plenty of outdoor cacti/succulents and tropical plants as well. The shop owner was very sweet and friendly. I'll be stopping by again next time I'm in town. read more

They have great selections of rare plants! So far, I've seen Siltepecana el Salvador, monstera albo, and even monstera aurea. I've also spotted some rare Hoyas and alocasia varieties as well. In addition, they have some of the most beautiful cacti collections displayed neatly outside the store. Before visiting this place, I wasn't even into cacti/succulents, but now I am so fascinated by them! Moreover, the plants are in excellent condition and they're very well taken care of. The store is also well-organized, and I love that they put labels on each plant, so we know the name of the plants right away. The potteries that they offer here are also very unique! The potteries in other stores tend to be kind of minimalistic for the most part, but this store offers gorgeous clay potteries that come in many different sizes. The service has always been great too! The owner is so welcoming, knowledgeable, and very passionate about plants. I've had a few conversations with the owner about the plants, and I can tell how much she cares and loves the plants. Every plant has its name and price on a simple and effective plant stick. The owner was super helpful with providing information on the plant I was interested in. They have a wide variety of plants from succulents, bonsai, and house plants! The plants are reasonably priced. You will have to be first to DM them depending on the number of plants they have available. They also have a pop up shop at the local coffee shop in Highland Park called Kindness and Mischief Coffee. After having moved in, the plan was living things last. The plan changed when I came across Leaf and Spine and a quick browse while I waited for an appointment turned into buying two plants and quickly stashing them in the car in just the nick of time. There were really only two conditions: one, needed a plant that would help oxygenate a room and two it had to be one that could at least do ok in low light. The plant that initially caught my eye unfortunately wasn't one of those but there were definitely some more plants that fit the bill. Between Earnestine trying to find something that fit those categories and me then being distracted and asking if whatever plant caught my eye could work, she definitely used up a lot of patience but was still super informative and helpful. Went on a whim because I recently jumped on the houseplant trend. Shop is small, but filled with SO many beautiful plants! There's an amazing selection. They have succulents to plants that have great foliage. I left with a satin pothos, a philodendron Micans (velvet leaf philodendron) and a monstera. I love all the plants I've gotten from here and I can't wait to check this shop out again! They have hard to find finds here!!!! What a great little shop! Been here twice, once in the afternoon and another during a re-stocking day in the morning. First time, waited around 45 minutes as there were 3 parties in front of me and they are only allowing 2 guests in at a time for 15min total. Was able to pick up a few plants for myself and as gifts. The second time was cause we saw on IG that there was a restock and got there around 11am. However, by the time we got there, there was a line at least 15 parties deep. By the time we got to the front, a few groups had left cause it was too long for them and still waited for 2.5 hours. You'd think that's pretty crazy for plants - yes, but even when it was our turn, there were still a few of the rare tropical plants that we were looking for. Definitely coming back hoping sooner than later! read more

My friend was looking for a Ficus Audrey and couldn't find it anywhere. This place was recommended to me as a rare plant store, so we swung by one Saturday afternoon and IMMEDIATELY saw the lovely ficus sitting outside for only $28. What a deal! The store is super quaint and cute with a decent selection of plants. I found the perfect little Snow Queen Pothos here after not being able to find it in many nurseries in my area. The owner is really nice and knowledgeable. She gave me great advice on how to save my Calathea Medallion at home. Parking can easily be found on the street and the neighborhood is a really nice walk. You may even encounter a few more plant shops down the way. read more

They of course still cost money but you get an opportunity to take home a rare succulent or houseplant. . The store is unfortunately closed and only doing scheduled pick ups for their selection but you can catch them at pop ups around the area so be sure to follow their IG for the latest. . When arriving at the store be sure to park on the street and not the lot next to the store as that is a lot for the tenants of the apartment complex behind them and the gate closes behind you so you will not be able to leave till someone else comes in. . Went by today and had a nice conversation with Ernestine who was very friendly and VERY helpful! She addressed any and all issues I may have with the three plants I purchased (pictured below). She was very informative when it came to plant location, watering schedules, trimming, checking the soil, areas of sunlight access, heat and cold sensitivity, etc. So naturally I felt more confident about picking the ones I did for my bedroom, bathroom and living room bookcases. I purchased several Hoya from Leaf and Spine and the quality is amazing. I don't know how they do it but each Hoya had multiple growth points and the soil was nice and moist not too dry or wet. This is my favorite nursery in NELA. The owners are sooo knowledgeable and every plant is not only happy but healthy!! Their prices are really freaking good. Especially considering the quality of plants. Some nurseries have good prices but the plants tend to be a little crispy. Not this place. Every plant is abundantly healthy. I visit every weekend. As others have mentioned, the owners have poor communication, do not engage well with their customers, and have a snooty attitude about them. We had a bad first time experience. The store opens at 11am right... It's 11:07 and the male owner is offloading plants in the front of the store while the female owner is indoors. So we casually start looking around in front then we proceed to enter after browsing for a few minutes. It wasn't until one of us tried to enter the store that the guy abruptly and rudely says "um were not open yet" which was odd because it was past 11am by that time. So we apologized, stood back out of the way, and they make us wait a few more minutes awkwardly, no interaction whatsoever. We felt like we were the bad guys for "accidentally" walking in the store during store hours and not once did they try to engage with us after that. By that time we were over it and decided to walk away and as soon as we do they say "okay you can go in now" but we just left and didn't go back. This doesn't seem like it's the first time the owners express poor communication with their customers or have issues with allowing passage to their customers. For such a small space you would think the owners would come off much more homey and charming but that isn't the case. read more

What an interesting experience I had here with my boyfriend. As mentioned on their page, they are limiting customers to two people in the small shop area at a time. (It's the size of a tiny home so I understand the customer limitations.) When my boyfriend and I pulled up, there was one person in the shop and we both tried to walk in to only be corrected that it was over capacity. We were totally okay with complying, so my boyfriend waited outside while I was inside just looking around. The one person left and my boyfriend came in to the shack. We had spent maybe a minute of time in there before another couple fully entered their little store and nothing was remotely mentioned to them about being over full capacity or that they would need to wait outside. It's not like they were quickly paying for their plants either, they were full on shopping. I expect to have the same treatment as everyone that walks through those doors but my boyfriend and I were quickly met with different treatment than the couple that never got asked once to step outside and wait their turn. A little bummed with this experience. Please treat all of your customers with the same rules. read more

Despite the smaller collection, there are a lot of rare plants to be found in this gem! I can tell that each plant has been treated with care. This is a new brick and mortar plantie spot in LA. If you're looking for a new plant pet this is a great place to go. The location is quite intimate (read small) but they pack a lot in and what they lack in size they make up in quality. The plants for sale are immaculate specimens and many are beautifully paired with handmade ceramics. Most of the specimens for sale are rare succulents, things you've likely never seen before and won't find at local nurseries. I went "just to take a look" and left with one of my wishlist plants at nearly half the price of other plants half the size I'd been finding and another that caught my eye. Staff member there was so so helpful and encouraging for the newbie Hoya collector I am, I wish I'd gotten her name to thank her again.
