Chill little distillery. Love the laid back vibe. Their advertising is what sold it for me. NO KIDS. The day I went in, they had a little "boozy bookstore" event happening in one corner. It doesn't happen super often but she says maybe once every month or every other month or so. Saw people with some food they brought in, and they also had a corner with some board games. The drinks were delish! And very decently priced. Bartender was nice. Only met bar tenders wife, wasn't overly friendly, but good bc customer service. Did see owner, but didn't meet him personally. We've been wanting to come here forever and finally found some time to drop by yesterday for a few drinks. WOW! Wish we had been here sooner. Starting off, it's tucked away (signage on the main road, though) neatly with some outdoor seating and has plenty of parking. The tasting room is nice and quiet and they had a huge selection of drinks. If it's your first time, ask the bartenders for their recommendations! They are very knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction. Prices are very reasonable! Anywhere $6-10 for a drink. We loved it so much we bought some bottles to take home and asked the bartenders for recommendations on recipes. This place lives up to the hype! We plan to be regulars going forward! read more

This is a review of an event that was held at the Leander location of Blue Corn Harvest Bar and Grill. It was a tasting dinner and highlighted spirits from Leanderthal Distillery. I wasn't aware we even had these kinds of events in Leander so I was super surprised and signed us up right away. I was curious about the distillery and I've been to other location of Blue Corn Harvest and enjoyed their food. This tasting menu was really special and every food item on the menu was paired with an appropriate adult beverage. Needless to say the event was for 21 and older only and actually the distillery does not host anyone under drinking age either. This review will focus on the adult beverages side of this event. I'll write a separate review for the food under the Blue Corn Harvest Bar & Grill in Leander page. We made it in the nick of time at 7 PM on the dot. A large part of the restaurant was cordoned off and actually even separated by a walkway from the entrance area to the right you would go in for regular dining to the left. they had everything all set up for the tasting menu , we were located in the last seats available which was in a booth with another couple (on the other side of us) they were awesome and we were so glad we met them so that was a big perk as well. They were well known as "Jo" had actually worked at Blue Corn Harvest in Cedar Park for years, and she and her husband were patrons of the distillery. So the ambience was really nice. I am going to talk about the service before I discuss the food. I have to say the service was absolutely impeccable. They had everything well designed- well thought out -and service was expedient as could be with the large number of people they were serving. I was truly amazed!!' The menu was created by Chef Santos Garcia for all the foods and Leanderthal Distillery for the bourbon and vodka beverages . Our First Course pairing was with a Lemon Rosemary Refresher. It was crisp and very light and was indeed refreshing. It was made from fresh rosemary, syrup, and vodka. I honestly didn't catch all the ingredients, but it was a very satisfying beverage, and since I am not a big drinker, I was really pleased that it wasn't super saturated with vodka The Second Course was paired with a Classic Martini. It was pure vodka adorned by two queen pimento stuffed green olives. Small sips were appropriate for me. It was very good. The Third Course was paired with an Old Fashion Leander. It was their delicious bourbon. There was an orange slice, and a maraschino cherry adorning it which I was encouraged by Jo (one of our table mates ) to squeeze into the beverage. It was very good and very smooth. Dessert -was served with an Apple Buttered Leander Bourbon Old Fashioned. Check out the pictures below. These beverages were stellar!! Oh, and I need to mention that they have drawings throughout the dinner for various prizes. Everything from a $25 dining gift certificate, T-Shirts, a bottle of vodka and a bottle of their whiskey!! Guess who won the bottle of whiskey? If you guessed me, you were right, ......which is very weird since I never win anything but looking forward to making some of our own adult beverages at home. This was a really great event and it was really nice to meet the owner of the distillery whom I believe is Scott. We're definitely going to go by and check it out. This was a great event with Leanderthal Distillery SO if they choose to participate in other pairing events, we will be sure to be at the table!! read more

The owner was super nice and informed us that we can ask for the recipes to any drink on the menu (nifty, right?) so that you can recreate them at home. It's also BYOF (bring your own FOOD) and happens to be adjacent to some great local restaurants. The tasting room is small and cozy with board games to borrow. The place is a little difficult to find the bartenders they seemed a little bothered. The owner was amazing. He did come to our table and we had a very nice conversation. They do not have food but you can bring in food from local businesses. The ambience it's OK. The price of a drink was the best part. Leanderthal Distilling is a great spot to sit down and have a drink with friends and family. Scott (the founder) was very welcoming and showed us the different spirits that they had to offer. The TexAgave is perfect for people that like tequila, the 17 Whiskey is great for the bourbon drinker, and Whit's Gin is really tasty too. I didn't have a chance to try all of them but I'm sure the others not mentioned are great. Some of us ordered the Bill Pickett Bulldog which was made with their JavaGave Coffee Liqueur and it was like Kahlua & Milk but way better. Highly recommend that drink! Decided to try this place out because it was a local distillery. we will be back time and time again. We wanted to buy a bottle for the upcoming 4th of July weekend. and we got to try 4 of their selections. The texagave, gin, triple session and whiskey. I was happy with all of them. Texagave is their "tequila". I thought it had a great taste and would make a great margarita. My wife, who is a tequila drinker, wasnt too fond of it, but I loved it and it would make a great add to any bar. Gin. It tasted twice as good as Tanqueray but with half the bite/harshness. we bought 2 bottles. Will be back for all the Gin needs. Whiskey. If youre a fan of Gentleman Jack youll love this! super smooth and mellow. I thought it was good (im a bourbon drinker), just not the Super Oaky flavor that Im used to. too mellow for my taste. Triple Session. This was by far the most impressive and different spirit I tried. Think of a triple sec (orange and sweet flavor) but with actual alcohol in it. I think it is 41% and it tastes fantastic over ice, not to harsh, not to sweet (by triple sec standards) but just right. Cant beat if for less than 15 bucks a bottle at total wine. I cant wait till I try the rest of their spirits. Go in and try them, you will not be disappointed! read more

My wife and I stumbled across this place on a Sunday. The owner, Scott, happened to be inside, noticed us reading the stuff on the door and unlocked the door, invited us in for a tour and taste of all their products. We've been serious fans ever since. I've had everything they make and all of their products are GREAT. My current favorite is 17, a bourbon, but that is a limited run. For Christmas, I got several people to go in for me and buy some 17 to give out as gifts. I also bought their products available at participating liquor stores as gifts. I distributed them to about 8 people total. It was a mix of 17, Leanderthal Vodka, TexAgave, Triple Secession and Javagave. Some recipients were serious liquor connisuer's, others just liked a cocktail now and then. All thoroughly enjoyed what they got and added it to their regular liquor rotations. Leanderthal has since opened a tasting room where you can get cocktails made with all their products, and are free to bring in outside food to munch on, as they don't necessarily have food on site. Although Scott has a creative work around with that by having a food truck occasionally. They also give samples of all their products as well. Their craft cocktails are GREAT! And they are very affordable for top shelf cocktails. If you like any type of liquor, Scott has a great version of it. Everyone there are super friendly too. Great place to go and hang out. Only downside is you can only buy 2 bottles per adult every 30 days. Awesome place!! read more

I visited once and instantly this became my new favorite spot. The owner and the other man making drinks behind the bar were so great. Friends and I tried most of the menu between the four of us and every drink was great. Their liquors are unique and delicious. I love any drink that uses whole, natural ingredients- no mixers in this place, and who can beat $4-5 drinks that taste this good?! Scott runs a very fun environment at Leanderthal Distillery. The drinks are priced very well ($6 and $7) for craft cocktails created by the spirits distilled on location. The tasting room allows guests to sample their products and they will provide their recipes. You can bring in whatever food you like as well. Proprietor was tasteless and passive aggressive, waiting until we had already bought drinks to tell us that we and our baby (who was totally non disruptive) we're not welcome. Kids of any age are not permitted because the proprietor does not like them, not because of any licensing or other legal reasons. Will not be returning or suggesting to others. I actually live in the DFW area and own a vacation home in Austin area. This establishment was referred while having a discussion about Old Fashions (my go to drink). I was not disappointed, the Old Fashion was on point. The bartenders and the owner were friendly and me feel welcome. The next time I was in the Austin area, I had to patronize the establish.
