First time here today. Glad we came and had a superb lunch. Two fresh tasty sandwiches. Some chips and a mini whoopie dessert. Friendly host. Yes we will come again.

Yes, I highly recommend Leavitt and Sons! Great owner - attentive, kind and engaging with customers. Takes pride in everything the store has to offer and promotes other local businesses. The sandwiches and the side salads we bought EXCEEDED my high expectations. The quality and the quantity were great. Every sandwich was assembled with such care, perfectly layered and balanced. The bacon they put on their sandwiches is perfect, you can bite through it, but it doesn't crumble. you had me at bacon Leavitt and Sons. When we are in the area and can park, we absolutely enjoy coming to this location. I highly recommend this place and they also fulfill local catering orders as well. Thank you for a wonderful experience!!!

What a great lunch spot! Only open between 10-4pm on weekdays so be sure to pop in for a sandwich or Boar's Head deli meat. The owner Pete is so friendly and attentive; I couldn't decide which sandwich to get, so Pete offered me a shot of his cold-killer chicken noodle soup to help me make a decision. Soup was so good, though I ended up getting their Thanksgiving sandwich special -- honey maple turkey, thin sliced apples, mustard, etc all the good stuff. Even though it is counter service, he let us eat first then pay. At checkout, I couldn't help but grab a chocolate chip cookie and black and white cookie -- they were okay. There's plenty of booth tables and individual stools with a huge selection of wine in the back. I definitely want to try their chicken pot pie next time!

The delis parking lot is right behind the restaurant or street parking may be available.

Free parking and lot in Portland. Online ordering. Another location in Falmouth. Tried this restaurant for the first time ads part of the March 2022 Portland Food Fights Best Sandwich challenge. My fave subs of all time are Italians (not Maine Italians but salami, pepperoni, Cappicola, etc Italians...) so needless to say I was excited to try the Big Italian. The meat was stacked high, supper yummy lettuce chopped fine and soft. Super yummy. Would make a great beach sandwich. Pick up, pop in the cooler and eat while enjoying day at the beach. The street is on the street just behind Chipolte. Google Maps may try to take you funky ways since the southern portion until the deli is one way and from Chipolte's parking lot north, it's 2 way. You can access their parking lot from either direction. They have Deep River chips too...small and big bags. They also carry an assortment of wines and little treats. We grabbed two homemade chocolate chip cookies for later...sooo good!

I love this place! They have really tasty, filling sandwiches and a nice selection of local products. The meats and veggies are fresh and good quality. You can order online but I always just go in and order, as the service is pretty quick. I usually get the Big Italian, but the pastrami sandwich is on my list to try next. You won't regret giving them a try!

Watery, flavorless chicken pot pie.. the crust is a piece of half baked flour on top of some soup concoction. What a shame

I had really high hopes for what they insist is their "famous chicken pot pie". Unfortunately, nothing here rates any measure of dame unless it's for worse lunch of the summer. Our lunch order totaled about $137, (Delivery). While the turkey sandwiches were good, they fell very very far of their $12 price tag. The bread didn't taste as though it was made by them, which is fine. The sandwiches themselves were robust but again, not what you may expect for the cost. The chicken pot pie left the most to be dissatisfied over. What you get is clearly a soupy chicken stew. Nothing about the concoction of their "chicken pot pie" comes close to being a pie. This isn't even a stew, just soup. (See video). The sauce and contents Itself didn't taste bad but was nearly void of all taste and flavor. I kept dashing mine with salt and pepper to get some sort of taste from it; and for a moment thought I could be suffering from Covid. A quick sip of my water assured me I wasn't as the water had more flavor then this dead chicken sitting in yellow juice. A pie is something which consists of Both a top and bottom pastry,, or, "crust", typically with pastry around the side with something baked between. Yet sadly, it's very common for Portland restaurants to think that if they slap a piece of store-bought puff pastry or dough on top of something, they can call it pie. This is the standard Leavitt and Sons submits to. A soupy mixture of over yellowed pasty liquid with shredded chicken breast and a bit too many carrots and peas tossed-in as filler. The top crust is merely a piece of unflavored dough left to float atop the soupy concoction, making it barely capable of browning. It should go without saying that a chicken pot pie, a REAL chicken pot pie should always have, at the very minimal a top and bottom pastry crust. To list this on a menu and place large signs in both Portland and Falmouth as "pie", is nothing short of false advertising. It isn't true, there is no pie. Why not give it a new clever name since it's your own creation? Perhaps because the business is aware that people are drawn to comfort foods such as chicken pot pie. As a business, that's not what the folks here wish to do. They choose a bait and switch business model, selling their customers a $12 watery abortion that was never famous or good to begin with. If it sounds as though I'm a little frustrated, I am. If you bit into this after springing $100+ bucks for lunch, you'd be a bit frustrated also. The badness didn't stop there,; my lunchtime "chicken pot pie" arrived cold and uncooked. Something else they forgot to be up front about. There was no mention of a need to cook or warm anything when we ordered it. For that, I would not recommend this deli/restaurant to you and in fact would encourage you not to visit Leavitt & Sons until they find tune some things.

Honestly, I was drawn to check out Leavitt & Sons as I have reason to drive past them several times a week and was intrigued. There is currently no place in this town that serves NY style deli and I thought maybe they might??? My husband and I walked in on a Saturday morning. While there did not seem to be an old school deli vibe, we were flexible and ordered a sandwich with Turkey, brie and pear, a chef salad, and a pickle. The two guys working the counter were very nice and accommodating. While waiting for our food, I walked around. The space is big and beautiful. I could not figure out why there was so little seating... Food was ready, we picked up our tray and settled into two seats at a window counter. We loved the chef salad, the Boar's Head meats and cheeses were fresh and there was a nice selection of greens. When we tried the sandwich, we were both surprised at how little turkey there was inside. For some reason, at that point, I went to Yelp to read through prior reviews etc... From what I read, it sounds like the amount of seating is beyond the owners control. On the other hand, it would be great to transition some of the seating to small tables and chairs. There seems to be plenty of room and customers might stay longer and order more if there were a few tables. In terms of the amount of turkey in the sandwich, another Yelp reviewer had experienced that as well. I read through the owner's response and felt kind of bad for the guy who wrote the review because I experienced the same lack of protein in my sandwich! I grew up in NYC and frequented the 2nd Ave Deli multiple times (when it was still on 2nd ave). When I stopped in at Leavitt & Sons I was not expecting any sort of "overstuffed" sandwich, but I do think there is probably a happy medium between that, and a sandwich with 3 1/2 ounces of meat/cheese in it. I really, really hope Leavitt & Sons finds its legs. It has a great big space in an under developed/cool part of downtown Portland. I have no idea if there is an interest, but they could add things like knishes, deli potato salad, half sour pickles, matzoh ball soup and hot pastrami or brisket sandwiches to their menu. It would set them apart from any other place serving up lunch in downtown Portland, AND bring in new customers.

I'm torn with this review. This place has so much potential and I was hoping for so much, yet, I left feeling disappointed. Starting with the positives... -This place is impeccably clean and spacious. You know how you can sometimes walk into a sandwich shop and feel claustrophobic with the chip selection right up in your face? Leavitt & Sons is not like that. The venue has a long, stretched-out layout with rustic wood floors and yellow walls to add a sense of brightness. -They sell beer and wine. Leavitt & Sons has a specific section where they sell a variety of beers and wine, and they even have a cooler with some selections. However, you are unable to drink alcohol in the store when eating you sandwich. Negatives... -They have very limited seating by their windows. Like, they only have eight seats. Due to the openness of the store, I feel like they could easily add more seating. -The have a decent sandwich selection, but portions are incredibly small. I don't mind dropping $8 or $9 on a sandwich, but I expect it to be filled and hearty. My sandwich was anything but full and hearty. My reuben was thin, and just very small. -The taste of my sandwich was just...okay at best. Nothing to get excited about...nothing to complain about...just your standard reuben. My rye bread was lackluster and bland. -The staff happens to be very nice, however, they kept forgetting things in our order, which apparently happens frequently based on previous reviews. We had to ask the workers three times to get what we fully ordered. Be careful, especially if you are taking out! Overall, this place has so much promise. Located in a spot in Portland where things are growing, this place could certainly do well, but I don't think they will be there long if the service and quality of sandwiches are not held to higher standards. I'm hopeful that they take time to reevaluate their pricing and sizes, then maybe I would give it another shot. Until then, I probably wouldn't return here as there are other incredible sandwich shops in Portland.

"Heaviness" is pretty subjective depending on the toppings. The pizza - Soppresatta was packed with flavor, salty, spicy, little sweet from a touch of honey and a very fresh, slightly punchy sauce - keeps some acidity and tastes lively. The crust was delicious, from what I read, this is a sourdough crust. Definitely had some good character and flavor to it.. I got this heated before eating it. The vegan special - obviously I'm not vegan, but that pizza looked phenomenal. Had to try it. This one did not get heated up as it was suggested to leave it cold (logical considering it basically has a salad on top). I don't know what the vegan cheese was but it tasted like a whipped ricotta/goat cheese would. The fresh tomato, pickled peppers and red onion all played perfectly together. I'd certainly go back here. A little on the pricey side but I think it rang in around $18 on these 2 slices (yes, pictured is considered a slice of each) I was plenty satisfied.
