Ledge Water is a lovely steakhouse overlooking Newfound Lake in Bristol, NH. Approaching it, you might think you've made a wrong turn and are headed into the woods, but as you reach the top of the hill you will see a parking lot and the cheerful yellow steakhouse beckoning you to come in and chomp on some delicious steak. Likewise, the friendly staff welcome you into the well-lit, eclectically decorated space. Old instruments and sheet music are scattered among cowhide rugs and seats in the spacious inside rooms, and the deck seating is accompanied by a burbling fountain. Definitely try to snag an outside table for a beautiful sunset view! I went with my boyfriend and his family. We had the: -Chilled seafood platter (crab meat, lobster meat and shrimp with cocktail sauce, a spicy orange mayo and a spicier green sauce) -Malbec (Mendoza) -Filet (medium rare) - comes with potato and house or caesar salad. -Petite filet (medium) -Haddock florentine -House salad The food was delicious. The seafood platter is great for splitting among four people (but a little deceptive because the pile of ice on which the seafood rests makes it look gargantuan). The filet was twice the size that I expected and perfectly cooked. My boyfriend's mother advised us to get the dressing on the side because some of the dressings can be hit or miss. I substituted asparagus with hollandaise for my potato, but didn't like it that much. Our waitress recommended the sweet potato casserole as her favorite side. The bad: The wine list is pedestrian with the vast majority of the wines available at most liquor stores The ugly: Even though we arrived on time for our reservation, ordered promptly and the restaurant was less than half full, our entrees did not arrive until we had been there an hour and forty minutes. The main baseline standard a restaurant has to meet is great service and great food. Mind it I said great, not perfect. I am not even talking about Michelin starred places. This place was billed to us by localite while making a trip to lakes region. Yelp backed her recommendation. Well, our experience was terrible. We waited for 10 minutes before someone came to even ask for drinks. Then we waited another 10 minutes for drinks to actually come, then 15 more minutes for our salads. Then after complaining a few times, the entrees appeared after 1 full hour. The food was barely decent for us to not go ballistic. The wife lost her appetite and left her meal half way through. We talked to the manager Tammy and she said that college kids go home that week and they are short staffed in the kitchen. She said this is a seasonal issue. To makes matters worst, rather than offering us more bread or a complimentary something, she said we can cancel the order and that there are other restaurants in the area. She said we failed to see the sign outside that there is longer wait. Well, if they had put in there that whole event is going to tak 2.5 hours, would I have eaten there? And the fact that it is long weekend and last week of business means its OK for you to lower your standards. If you know this already, hire temporary staff for crying out loud. I keep noticing this trend at almost every restaurant I have been to that is well rated and $$$ in Yelp. Not happy..at all.... was told by the owner to shine a light on my mother's steak to show it was cooked medium after it was served well done. THE complaint was made to server and the instruction to her where for us to take a flashlight and shine alight on it. Seriously yelpers,I cant make this stuff up... my reviews get 5 stars but this disgraceful advice given about a 37 dollar entry can not be u done. After years of living in the area we figured we'd branch out from our usual spots and try someplace new. Really wish I hadn't wasted my time or money at this place. The only thing this place has going for it is its view...it really is spectacular but after that it's a joke. Food is mediocre which isn't what you're expecting or paying for. This was a solid disappointment. We had been told by locals that this was the best restaurant off of Newfound Lake. The setting is beautiful, on a ledge overlooking the lake and you can watch the setting sun. This is a three star restaurant with five star ambitions. As a steakhouse, it does not prepare steaks well. My New York Strip was rubbery, though I had requested medium rare. The waitress informed us that the steaks are cooked on the porcelain plates that they are served. The sides are adequate but boring. The lighting on the veranda very poor to have an evening meal. The seating was wrought iron and very uncomfortable. There is absolutely no creativity in the menu for a restaurant that charges 67$ for a prime rib. Also, the signage in the long unpaved driveway has no signage to inform that the drive is dead end. There is no coordination in the three parking areas ascending the ledge. I think they seat too many people for the capacity of the kitchen staff, sacrificing quality for profit. I won't return. read more

Came here on our last night of vacation expecting a lovely meal. The food was nicely prepared but a bit pricey. Our server was outstanding but while in the next room a coworker belittled her not once but multiple times, in a tone and volume which was impossible to miss. While setting up tables the owner witnessed it and took note but seemed to let it go. The behavior would result in discipline or termination in most places. When I asked for the owner, she appeared after talking to the servers. When I expressed my concerns and how it had ruined the evening, her response was "thanks for telling me" and she walked away. I can not recommend a restaurant where it's owner sanctions such behavior even when it turns out to be apparently banter between coworkers?? It creates a poor, if not hostile, work environment for everyone who works there and has to listen to it. Most shocking is the owner's seeming failure to appreciate the impact on her staff and customers. This menu reads like 80's fine dining. It's fairly uninspiring and lackluster food. Almond crusted cod, stuffed halibut, seafood risotto, general surf and turf. The patio is lovely, albeit a bit loud since it's adjacent a busy road. But on top of the lackluster menu, the kitchen is amazingly slow. It almost feels like the wait is intentionally long, as if a long wait signals fine dining, but this just seemed absurd. The dozen different cakes that you are encouraged to order from at the beginning of the meal because they sell out early feels like a gimmick in retrospect. It was a giant piece of cake, but a pretty boring red velvet and chocolate cake. Many people love this place, and perhaps they love that it's the same expensive food you could have purchased three decades ago. But for me, if I'm going to spend that much money and spend that much time waiting, I'm looking for something more interesting, more delicious, and worth the price point. read more

Do not patronize this restaurant! I called at 4:30 to make a reservation for the next night at 6:00. Nobody answered the phone. You just got a message to leave your name, number in your party, time you wanted, and whether you wanted inside or outside seating. We got there the next night at 6:00 and were told there was no reservation for us. They said if we left a message then nobody bothered to write it down. This restaurant has a poor way of doing business. First of all somebody should answer the phone if you call during regular business hours. I attempted to keep this between management and our party but I have yet to receive a reply to my private message. This was our 4th year back at Ledge Water as we always enjoy the food, atmosphere and the view. Even though last year's experience was not as good as the first two we decided this year we would go for my husband's birthday, give a second chance, and bring our 14 year old daughter to make it a family celebration. Everything was going ok, service was a bit slow but tolerable. The weather wasn't suppose to be great but we lucked out with mostly clear skies and a gorgeous sunset. However the night quickly took a turn for the worst. The second round of drinks came and the waitress attempted to balance the tray rather than using the empty table next to us as she did with the first round. A full glass of red wine landed on my daughter's arm covered her white shirt, light blue pants and white shoes in red wine and shattered at her feet. Although the waitress apologized I had to proceed to ask for club soda to help avoid staining. The waitress got us club soda but was also more concerned about cleaning up the glass as not one of her coworkers assisted her. My daughter now soaked, a bit chilly and upset asked if they had shirts available so she didn't have to sit throughout the rest of dinner freezing in wet clothes. We followed the waitress inside and were told that the only shirts available were on the wall as the office was locked and if we found one we liked to just take it down, she wanted ME the customer to use a chair to take the shirt off the wall that was two sizes too big for my 14 year old that was covered in wine due to HER mistake! In the meantime my friend was working on getting the stains out of my daughter's shirt in the bathroom all while our food was delivered and getting cold. As we were attempting to make the best of the situation we then received the bill with not a single item comped and not a single offer to pay for the cleaning fees. When we questioned the bill we were told "well we gave her a sweatshirt." The entire experience was extremely upsetting, a restaurant that I have raved about over the last few years I am not sure I ever want to visit again. We finished our night scrubbing stains out of clothes and shoes my daughter paid for using her own hard earned money, something unheard of now a days in her generation. After all said and done I know mistakes happen but I truly would have expected much more from a quality restaurant like Ledge Water. read more

Awesome food. The steak is as good if not better than top Boston steakhouses! Great to see restaurants, especially steak houses offer salads and sides that come with the meal. Service is also always great! Dessert is also a must do here, however make sure to ask what is freshly made as I have had a few stale (but still good) cakes. read more

Have been here twice and enjoyed our meal both times. Great setting for sunset on the deck, as the photos show, but be prepared to be blinded for the time leading up to it. It's pricey, with most entrees between $30-50, pretty high in comparison. But a nice place for a special night out. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star review is the price. Our most recent visit, our group of 4 got the Petite Filet, the Ahi Tuna, and the Shrimp. Everyone was very pleased with their meal, the service was quick and friendly, and the setting was perfect. We also two pieces of cake, one each to split between each couple. We were warned that they were plenty big to split and it was true. I'm guessing that each piece was probably 1/5 of a 9 inch cake. We probably could have split one piece among the four of us! It was delicious - yellow cake with coconut frosting and we each took half of it home for the next day. read more

My girlfriend took me here for an early birthday dinner and the food was delicious. The salads were nice and fresh and the steak was cooked to perfection. We have been twice to the restaurant. Linen table clothes, napkins, well set table. Our fillets and strip steak were done to perfection and delicious. Mushroom app very good, too. This time we sat on the deck on a perfect summer evening, and it was lovely. The sunset over Newfound Lake was wonderful. Pricey but worth it. However, that being said, waitstaff should refill water glasses without being asked to do so, ask if another glass of wine or drink are desired, and...never never hand plates of food to the diner. We are leaving before eating. We scheduled a special anniversary dinner and requested a nice seat. After being seated at a cruddy table, we asked to be moved to one of the many, many open tables. We were told no, that they were all reserved. We had reservations as well. None of what they said made sense, and I think they realized that, but stuck to their guns. My fiancé and I stopped here on Saturday night and while the location and view were beautiful, our service and food weren't so great. We sat at a high top table in the bar area we waited 15 minutes before we were acknowledged. The table was still dirty when we sat down and nobody wiped it down even after we were given menus. We ordered the crab cakes, (which came out cold), the Caesar salad which was dry, and the ahi tuna and petite filet. Even after our food came out nobody brought us silverware or plates, and we had to wait to ask someone long after the food was delivered. The crab cakes would have been great if they weren't cold. The steak was delicious with the creamed spinach side. However, the ahi tuna wasabi sauce was so overwhelmingly spicy I couldn't even put it on the tuna, and it was all completely pre cut on the plate. It was just really lacking flavor and it was dry. For this price I would expect much better service and food. We won't be back. read more

Very disappointed with the service and the food. The service was just awful. We had to ask the waitress for things that she should have provided. I.e. didn't get salt and pepper on the table until the entree arrived. Had to track her down as she never asked how I wanted my steak cooked. Also, the side vegetables didn't show up until 10 minutes after my meat. My husband had a salmon special which he did like. The food wasn't even average. Salad was skimpy and nothing special. My filet mignon was huge but just not all that good. Usually filet mignon is melt in your mouth good but this wasn't even close. The side vegetables were pre-made and then somewhat heated. The plates were hot and the vegetables luke warm. And then my dessert - the creme brûlée - was runny like soup. We weren't the only customers unhappy. There was a party of eight that were complaining to the owner when we were getting ready to leave. Same complaints - poor service and lackluster food. This restaurant has a lot of work to do to get it up par with the prices. Right now this restaurant had one thing going for it - the view of Newfound Lake is wonderful. Everything else is sub-par, less than average with higher than average prices. If you want to eat with a view - check out The Inn on Newfound Lake. My boyfriend and I sat at your bar after our delicious dinner on the patio hoping to order a couple espresso martinis. You were not amused. For future New York reference, an espresso martini does not get chocolate sauce on the glass, nor does buying a drink at your bar mean you can throw our check at us without even a word. Great views of Newfound Lake! Two-tier deck seating! This was my third time to Ledge Water Steak House and I was let down. My previous two visits have been excellent other than the long wait, but in the end the food was worth the wait. This time I made a reservation and the food was not worth the visit. First I ordered a mojito...the mint was not muddled and it tasted like I was sipping rum and soda water. After having two other people try the drink and say it was horrible I asked the waitress if I could please have something else, which she willingly did. We had a baby with us...they offer highchairs, but no children's menu. We were able to get a side of pasta. Three of us ordered steaks and none of us were impressed. There were no choices for sauces. All steaks are served with melted butter. We all agreed the steaks had no flavor and appeared to be pan fried. I ordered the petite filet and didn't finish it because it was not worth it. The amount they are charging for the steak was not worth it even though they include a salad and one side. I give this place a three stars because I know from previous visits this place can be great. The views are excellent. I just hope that this summer the chef hasn't changed from previous summers. read more

No manager or owner ever stopped by to apologize or try to make things right. I sent the owner a message and never got a response. Am not looking to get a free meal, can very much afford it, but just looking for some professionalism. Usually the food is delicious and what you would expect at a fine dining restaurant. However, last night my husband and I had dinner there and the Ahi Tuna I ordered was horrendous. I asked for it rare and what I was given was a sliced, over cooked, dry tuna. I complained to the manager, who blamed it on the soy marinade and his attitude was like, oh well that's the way we make it here. No apology, just asked if I wanted something else, but my husband had already finished his entree. It gives you an idea of how long it took to grab someone's attention about it. Waitress never checked back to see if everything was okay. So disappointing. Manager only offered to take the Tuna off the bill, nothing else. The building is nestled on a mountain overlooking beautiful Newfound Lake. I had the end cut prime rib, others had the rib eye and most had the petite filet. Those in our party who didnt order steak were a little less impressed with their meal. Foe example the duck was dry as were the pork chops! We will definately revisit but will only order their specialty - steak. Prices are very reasonable for a steakhouse. The area truly will benefit by the addition of this wonderful restaurant!
