After driving two hours to eat at this restaurant. We were greeted by a pleasant server. Who asked if we here for breakfast. Next thing we know we have this rude arm waving Manager coming towards us. No breakfast we stop at 9:00 am. Didn't you read your ticket, you can upgrade to the buffet. Which would be great if we were guest of the hotel. Apparently this place lose the ability to make a omelet after 9:00am. I am a Manager of a restaurant too. I would never greet a customer in this manner. Even after a menu change. read more

My wife and I along with her father had dinner here on Saturday evening. The view was lovely and the food exceptional. The reason for the 3 star rating was our service. From the moment we stood waiting for the hostess to address us, (she was in a conversation with another employee of the hotel) she finally asked our name and reservation time and proceeded to tell the person where we were to sit. Not friendly and not at all seeming to care that she wasn't. Our waiter was almost the exact same way. Not friendly, Complained about the loud piano player and not once came by after our meal was served to ask if everything was satisfactory. This hotel has a lot of potential that it's not living up to in its restaurant. Patrons deserve better for these prices. read more

Dress code is resort casual, i.e. men can wear khaki shorts and t shirts. We enjoyed a romantic formal dinner experience without having to dress up formally. We visited this place back on Columbus weekend, peak of the foliage season. My family sat in the tavern area and not the main dining area. The food was average and the bar tenders/waiters were horrible. I ordered a Mojito ($10) and I had to return it. It came in a pint glass and tasted like Tonic water with very little sugar in it, and a couple of mint leaves in it. I saw our waiter went to bar and made it himself and I realized what's wrong, they didn't muddle the mint leaves with sugar. He doubled up on the sugar syrup, and return it with again, a couple of mint leaves. I had to hand teared and shred the mint leaves so the drink will have some of the flavor in it. As for the food, the service was slow but no intolerable. The waiter, god bless him, did his best to keep checking on us. I ordered this 4 course seafood tasting menu. I ordered clam chowder, mini raw bar of oysters and clams, smoked sugar and chile grilled Salmon, and a forgettable dessert. We told him the food can all come at the same time but we still waited for about 20 min before the food arrived. He keep checking on us and finally brought the food for the rest of the table. My oyster/clam plate came, I shared some with my wife, the Salmon came, it was flavorless. After dinner on our drive home, I realized my clam chowder was never served. I guess I was so disappointed that I just want to get out of that place in a hurry. EEEEEK. read more

Ledges at the White Mountain Inn serves some of the best food in North Conway. First, I'll mention that the setting is absolutely beautiful. A gorgeous room with a pianist and great views. The food here is so good that on our recent stay we started to make excuses to eat here repeatedly after trying it once. The crab cakes were perfect, the lobster mac and cheese was even better than it sounds, and the filet mignon was just what a filet should be. It's worth mentioning that we ate here on a Friday night when their famous seafood buffet is available and it looked great. I'm not a fan of buffets in nice places, but this seemed to be a great spread. A huge variety of high-quality eats. Really, the only reason we didn't eat here every night (and the reason for only 4 stars) is that the prices aren't low. Mind you, you won't overpay for what you get here, but the food isn't cheap. The entrees are prices where they should be... a nice treat in a great spot. read more

We had breakfast and brunch at Ledges during our stay at the White Mountain Hotel. As mentioned in my review for the hotel, the breakfast was complimentary and the brunch was an upgrade at a discounted rate ($10 instead of $19). Enjoyed both meals. Nice start to the day with good food, fabulous views and some jazz on Sunday. First day we both opted for the omelette of the day (peppers, onion, cheese, supposed to be some sausage and tomatoes). Everything was finely chopped and I didn't recognize either of the latter two ingredients, but not a big deal. It was still a delicious omelette. Hash browns were a little over cooked, though tasty. Our waiter, Steve, was very attentive. Brunch is done by reservation. Unlike most other brunches we've been to, this is not a long event, 11am-12:30pm. Our seating was at 11:30, but as we had already checked out and killed some time walking the grounds, we thought we would see if they could fit us in a bit early. Restaurant didn't look full. The hostesses were most obliging and put us at a table at the top of the stairs leading to the lower level. Missed our server's name, but she was very nice, as everyone had been. Brought out juice and invited us to go help ourselves at the brunch tables out in the main lobby. It was a little more cramped than usual I suspect, with some tables still being used for the music center silent auction items. People didn't seem to mind having to go around. There were the usual offerings you expect at a brunch: omelette/eggs/carvery (only ham and turkey breast available) station and a Belgian waffle station, plus warm dishes, salads, fruit tray and a small sweet table. Just on a smaller scale. There were some unique hot dishes, like that scrumptious Greek frittata with lots of tasty olives. Omelettes were passé for me that morning! Limited amount of seafood, no shrimp, crab or lobster. But there was a tray of smoked salmon and a baked haddock with seafood sauce. Wish I had room to sample the Chicken Marsala. Saw jugs of smoothies too, though didn't try them. Should have thought to ask if mimosas were available. ;) If we had been there longer, we would have had dinner at Ledges as well. They have a seafood feast on Fridays and prime rib on Saturdays. read more

The views here are spectacular. You can't really see anything for the dinner hours but the breakfast hours.. man the views were something else. That alone was worth the trip out. Their breakfast omelets are amazing. I stayed two nights at the hotel and the first night I had to have their special omelet. It was so good that I had to have it again for the second morning. I have no complaints at all with my breakfast experience.. the coffee and sides were amazing. They usually start you off with a little basket with a few mini muffins and a pastry that varies from day to day for a little extra in your meal which is great. The dinner was not so good. Had their Lamb Loin on a bed of potatoes and white asparagus. I asked for the lamb to be medium well and it was cooked to perfection. The only downside was that everything on the plate was over salted. I found it to be too salty and i couldn't even eat the asparagus because of it. Their deserts were great. I had their award winning white chocolate bread pudding and it was delicious. I also had the opportunity to taste their tiramisu and it was also delicious. If it wasn't for their sub-par dinner (which was pretty expensive).. I would have given them five stars. For anyone who enjoys wines.. they have a very large selection. read more

There are very few restaurants in the white moutain s that we found, that have consistently excellent food and attentive service. Ledges has a great menu selection, and the food is always delicious. On out most recent trip I tried the bone in roasted chicken with PAN sauce. It was the best roasted chicken I have had out. Usually I go with their filet but I am so happy I tried something else. We stayed at the White Mountain Hotel, so, naturally, we ate here. It was a generally good experience. We did not get dinner here, but did get drinks and dessert in the bar. I had the flourless chocolate torte, one of my favorite desserts, and this did not disappoint. The white chocolate powder was an interesting touch--it must have been good, as the boyfriend ate it all without telling me that it was weird. The torte itself was just as expected--rich and chocolatey. He had the creme brulee, one of his favorite things in the world, and was pleased with it. I also had the Vinho Verde, which is a lightly-sparkling rose, and was quite good. The next day, we got Sunday brunch. Now, I hate brunch. I think it's a silly meal because I don't want to eat breakfast beforehand, but what if brunch is at lunchtime? It just has never made sense to me. And, in hotels, it always seems like it's rubbery bacon, a long line at the omelet station, and last night's unsold dinner special. Not true here! The bacon was crisp and lovely, and the entrees actually seemed freshly-made. They also had nice fresh fruit, and a cold bar with cheese, grapes, smoked salmon, and the like. They had fresh rolls, and lots of other tasty-looking things that I didn't get a chance to try. The kitchen was making french toast, eggs benedict, and pancakes for those who wanted them, which I thought was a nice touch. Eggs benedict in particular always looks congealed and horrid at brunch, so that was a nice surprise. I also ordered a mimosa--$6 special for brunch. It was fine. I would have had another had it been offered, but I'm not sure they had enough waitstaff working brunch. We also had breakfast Monday, which was also good. I had pancakes--just as good as at brunch, just larger--with bacon, orange juice, and tea. Again, I would have taken refills had they been offered. The boyfriend had his typical eggs over medium, and enjoyed himself. Overall, were we to stay here again, we would eat here again. I'm not sure I'd make the special trip here--there are just so many other places to eat--but it was plenty good. read more

We went for Sunday brunch, the hostess/manager Gwen seemed a little annoyed that we didn't have reservations (the dining room had more than enough spots for two people) so they sat us in the tavern, we felt as tho we were a bother to the staff. Until we got our waitress Barbara who was awesome, she kept the coffee and waters full, kept removing our dirty dishes, was very attentive. The food was outstanding, the brunch was 4-5 star quality. The atmosphere is much better than the food. I saw the Traditional Turkey dinner on the menu and figured it must be really good because it's not something you see too often; big mistake. I was very disappointed, the sides were all good but the Turkey was less than average. It was dry and had fatty edges. My friend got the haddock and said it was average. Visited Ledges on our recent trip to North Conway. Like the headline says, beautiful relaxing views from any table but a window table is where you want to be. Based on the appearance and location of the restaurant and the great menu, I had high expectations for this restaurant but I can honestly say, I found it to be average. Their wine list is extensive and I had the Friday Night Seafood Fest (you can't beat the value). While everything was fresh and hot, everything else was ordinary. My husband had the Lobster Mac and Cheese, and unfortunately the lobster was very tough and not enjoyable. I would maybe go back for breakfast or lunch because the view is so nice but I think I would skip dinner. read more

A truly professional staff of hard working individuals. We dined on a Sunday night and were made to feel abundantly welcome by the hostess, the bar staff and the wait staff. It took a bit of time to get our window seat but only because I did not ask for this when the reservation was made. We will return. Now to the food.......mine was the 1/2 roast chicken with fresh green beans and mashed potatoes. The chicken was superb with a beautiful browned skin, tender and juicy. Plating was attractive and everything piping hot. K had the grilled marinated pork medallions which she reported as very good, also piping hot and attractively presented. This was served with a vegetable rice and fresh green beans. Desert was cheesecake with chocolate truffles, delish. My only mild complaint would be the selection of wines by the glass. I was not a fan of the Perfetto (if my memory serves me correctly) pinot grigio. The only cabs available by the glass were Washington State. Nothing from California. The dinner started fine with fresh bread and butter but went down hill from there. The appetizers were a little bland. I ordered the cod and lobster duo. The fish tasted like it had been defrosted recently and slopped together with four seasons bread crumbs. The lobster part of the dish consisted of the meat of a miniature lobster claw that was enough for one bite. The rice reminded me of a rice a roni mix. The kids mac and cheese dish looked like it came out of a 49 cent box of generic supermarket mac and cheese. The dinner was overpriced for what it was and I will not recommend this restaurant to any one. For similar tasting seafood please go to red lobster. read more

This is our second timing dining here. It's a nice place for a special occasion. I made a reservation in the morning but when we arrived our name was not on the list but the hostess made sure we got a table. She was very accommodating. My partner got the seafood prix fix menu that consisted of a lot of food that he enjoyed. I got the tenderloin that was cooked to perfection. Had a reservation for 8:15 pm Friday. Arrived a little after 8 pm. They were busy, but the host/manager? did not address us at the host table for ten minutes. He was busy moving tables and chairs around arguing with another woman (hostess?) who worked there. At one point he took off his sport coat and threw it by me and my wife into the corner with frustration. Finally got seated about 8:25 pm and the waiter did not even say hello for almost twenty minutes. We stopped the hostess to say we haven't met our waiter who then appeared at the table whose first words were "Did you want to order?" This was close to 8:45 pm. We ordered a cup of soup and two entrees. I got the cup of soup about 9 pm. It was fine. Then it was 9:15...9:30...and counting. The waiter was complaining about working doubles to other customers. We then asked to have our meals packed up to go. He stated, "That's fine, but they aren't gonna come out any faster." We waited until 9:45 pm and left.......I can understand being understaffed and things taking some time, but this was ridiculous and the worst service I had in my ten days staying in the White Mountains. read more

Recently went to the Friday nigh seafood fest and it was absolutely amazing!! . Four course meal with the most fresh fish , shrimp cocktail, amazing Cesar salad, mouthwatering risotto, perfectly cooked tender, delicious Scallops and asparagus. Then had the most delicious ice cream with an amazing, I think strawberry rhubarb compote! This house CHEF IS AMAZING, FANTASTIC! and I was disappointed in myself that I did not thank him personally, he deserved a standing ovation!! he was that good!!! Lexi our waitress was just the nicest person ever! Very attentive to our needs and extremely pleasant and efficient, ask for her! You will not be disappointed! Cannot wait until Friday comes around around again, we will be back for sure. Only con was a tour bus weekend guest load took up the whole dining room so it was quite loud. Piano bar gentleman was absolutely wonderful, great touch and super music selection! Overall 5 star experience at the White Mountain resort hotel restaurant. You will not be disappointed! This food was fantastic. A group of six had a variety of things, mostly seafood, each dish of which was prepared differently and cooked perfectly. The filet mignon was excellent, perfectly cooked. Rare to have a kitchen that can prepare a variety so well. Portions were generous for the price. The wait staff was excellent but a bit overwhelmed; they could have used another waitress or waiter. We went to ledges for our anniversary dinner August 1st and let me tell you the view was literally the only good thing. When we were seated I asked for the best local wines and the waitress response was " Nh doesn't have good wine"... not the answer I was looking for. So she took the wine glasses from us along with cocktail menu with no further explanation. When our entrees came I was shocked with the portion of mashed potatoes that were in the middle of both of our plates. If you are going to pay $25 for pork tenderloin you should get more than 5 ounces. And it was dry. My Waygu beef was a cheap cut to say the least. We were served at 7;30pm. By the time the waitress came back at 8:10 to check on us for the first time I was ready to go home. She had waited on the couple behind us 3x making small chat and encouraging the chefs best options the menu had to offer. She made us feel like she couldn't wait to get rid of us. We had to ask to see a dessert menu. This was an unbelievably slow night may I add in August on a Thursday.. And she dropped it off and said the lemon was her favorite and then just walked away.. she came back 25 minutes later. We just asked for the check them left and will never be back. We are both foodies and did our research. We will now learn to read the worst reviews first cause they are spot on. Don't waste your time here folks. read more

For hotel dining, you won't be disappointed. The panoramic views of Mount Washington from the long windows surrounding the dining room takes your breath away when you enter the large, sunken dining room. I never get tired of this feeling no matter how many times I dine here. When you are finally ready to take your eyes away from the view and look at the menu, you are pleasantly surprised by how varied the menu is. Staff and servers are friendly and most accommodating. I started with a Cesar salad that was large and tasty. The croutons are made in-house and are thick, slightly chewy (won't break your teeth) and buttery. I was a little apprehensive about ordering the grilled Ahi tuna because I wasn't sure if folks up that way would do this justice. I should have had a little more faith because it was EXCEPTIONAL. In fact, I think about jumping in my car sometimes on a whim just go back for an impromptu dinner in the mountains. Remember to leave room for the Lemon Dream dessert. I cannot even begin to describe it.....I think it is the closest thing to food heaven. To make your dining experience even better, there is a baby grand piano in the middle of the dining room and a wonderful musician playing the most beautiful music and taking requests. I was in a very alpine mood....it was dark, the snow was softly falling, and the mood was just right to request Edelweiss. It was so beautiful. Make sure to tip him...he works just as hard as the servers in the restaurant. While staying at this hotel, I like also to eat at the tavern adjacent to the dining room. Even though it is called a tavern, it is more like a very comfortable cocktail lounge with round tables, comfy club chairs, a big screen TV, and a quiet bar. While I am there, I can enjoy all of my favorite comfort foods with no guilt because I will be working it off the next day cross-country skiing. My favorites include the French onion soup, house-cut fries (I recommend the truffle fries), the vegetable wrap, and the Panko-fried fish sandwich. Don't forget to leave room for the Lemon Dream dessert. If you get extra hungry or just forgot to order something, just pick up the phone and order room service! Do I over-indulge while I am here on vacation? You bet. Good thing I live so far away, or I would have a serious weight problem. Breakfast in Ledges Dining Room usually comes with the price of the room. What a deal! It is delicious and such a great way to start the day before you start your preferred winter activity. I love the pancakes and Belgian waffles. My favorite part of breakfast is the never-ending cups of coffee and the maple sugar butter that you spread all over your pancakes/and or waffles. What is this stuff? Where can I buy it? How can I recreate this at home? Oh so, naughty, but tastes oh so nice! I have been staying at the White Mountain Hotel and the Mount Washington Hotel for as long as I can remember. I will say, however, that the White Mountain Hotel has it over the Mount Washington as far as the food goes. I also love its charm and the heated outdoor swimming pool and hot tub.
