I wanted rich but simple straightforward flavors for lunch and I got it. The egg foo young was not greasy or over-fried, had plenty of medium sized shrimp beansprouts and green onions. The rice was very good, each grain of rice was separate and lightly glazed in soy, had a slight smokey flavor from what i assume was a high heat wok. Simple ingredients and dishes but very complex umami rich flavors in the egg foo young and rice and both dishes had been perfectly cooked. Egg roll was basic and lacking enough filling in my opinion but still crispy and tasty. For $14 including tax and credit card service charge it was a good price.

The portion sizes, the flavors, the drinks(!) = all top notch! It's so unfortunate that I moved away or else I would be here significantly more often now. I had the Coco Loco drink and it blew my socks off. It was so refreshing and felt like I needed it on a beach. It tasted like a stronger Pina Colada. The drinks are $15 but I think they could potentially be worth it because of the amount of quality/size you get. Actually, the price of all the dishes were a bit much but you will definitely have leftovers for the next day. Good vibes. Thank you Chef Shangri-La, I'll be seeing you soon! Personal Review: 8.9/10

Gave great recommendations and very accommodating! We loved all the food, but our favorite was the lettuce wraps (chicken) and the cauliflower! The interior, "modern Asian" is nice and not stuffy. There are plenty of tables, which is good because it is a popular place, and a sizable bar. You also are allotted a decent personal space and do not feel like you are right on top of the table next to you. Our waiter was friendly and pretty much stuck to business (which is fine because we were hungry!). He was quick with our waters and they were always kept full. Additionally, our drinks and food were brought out promptly, which is always appreciated! We usually just come for apps (lots of them...) because they are so good! We had the Shrimp Dumplings (yum!), Edamame (wonderful, HUGE serving!), Dynamite Shrimp (my favorite!), and a Hot and Sour Soup (the bowl is massive, perfect for me). As we expected, everything tasted great and we left full (with some soup in hand haha). The prices are reasonable and right where you'd expect them to be. Given the great food you will leave very satisfied for what you spent. If it is not clear already, we are big fans who will always be coming back in the future.

The vibe is also awesome with a great reggae playlist and welcoming staff. Literally every single bite was so good but my favorites had to be the short ribs, chicken katsu, and poke. These mac salad was a little sweet but it definitely worked well especially with the heavier mains of the plate. Poke was really fresh btw and def had my eye on the poke nachos so gotta go back! Def a must try for anyone craving real Hawaiian food in Chicago!

This restaurant is welcoming, has a cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. Their menu variety is good and the pricing is reasonable. Since it was our first, we took our time ordering the food. We started off with one order of Spam Musubi which was yummy. Then, for entrées, we got a Poké Bowl, Da OG Plate, and Aloha Mixed Plate (see my photos). The Poké Bowl was fresh and flavorful. The Da OG Plate had delicious and flavorful Huli Huli Chicken and grilled Pork Belly. Both were on point with the flavor and texture. Nicely cooked and delicious. I had the Aloha Mixed Plate and the beer battered fish and Pulehu Short Ribs were quite tasty, especially the ribs. I also had the Huli Huli Chicken that was really good. It was an awesome meal overall and we enjoyed it. We received good service and the food made us want to come back for more (which we will). Da Local Boy is a great addition to Highwood's culinary scene. You got to check it out.
