Let me start off by saying that I was a little concerned after reading some of the super old reviews on here but I was already in the office (I usually read reviews in advance but I was distracted by other things going on when I booked the appointment) and there wasn't much that I could do about it at that point. The building definitely showed it's age so that wasn't exactly helping out my first impression of the place. I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover so I still kept an open mind. The office itself was very clean and well maintained. The staff was very professional and friendly. I was immediately greeted by the receptionist with a smile. I didn't wait very long at all to be called to the back for my x-rays. It was a quick and simple process. After that, I was taken to an exam room and only waited about 10 minutes to see Dr. Warrin Donowho. She had excellent bedside manners, was very friendly, and very thorough with her exam. I appreciated her honesty, she didn't try to encourage me to have any unnecessary work done. (Don't even get me started on my last dentist! They tried telling me that I needed an expensive root canal and a pricey deep periodontal cleaning without even doing a detailed exam!) She did a great job of addressing all of my concerns, she really took her time to listen and explain things to me. Who knew that it was possible to be too aggressive with brushing, lol! When everything was said and done, it turned out that I didn't need a root canal or the periodontal deep cleaning, I just needed a much less invasive (and relatively inexpensive) cleaning! Clare was the dental hygienist who did my cleaning. I never thought that I would ever say this but I actually enjoyed having my teeth cleaned! She was a delight to chat with, she definitely has the right personality for the job! I'm so used to the usual, "Open. Close. Bite down." which is pretty much the extent of conversation that I'm used to while getting dental work. I also appreciated that Clare used a numbing gel on my gums prior to doing any work, this was the first time that I didn't experience any pain or discomfort during a cleaning. Overall, I am more than pleased with the service and customer care that I recieved at Lee Dental. The entire staff was very courteous, tentative, and well organized. Dr. Donowho and Clare really made my experience pleasant. I will be referring all of my friends and family here! read more

My 92 year old father in law went in for dental work. The work had barely begun and they asked him to cough, then swallow. They then calmly said the drill bit came out of the drill and they were unable to retrieve it and he swallowed it. They said we needed to go to the ER and that this has 'only happened' twice before. No concern, apology. Thankfully following his ER visit and a follow up, it is moving through his system. We expected perhaps a call from the office to check on him, but have heard nothing. Make sure you check your insurance EOB's against their billing as like to tack things on claiming its not covered by insurance when items are not actually billable under contract and are included with other treatment codes tried to overcharge $375.00 on a patient actual cost of $360 !! so more than double even then tried to overcharge credit card fee of 5% of the estimated cost not the actual cost !- . had to educate them "thats not how this works" no isssues with the dentisit and quality of service but beware of "revenue maximising" billing practices - did not send statments till requested then statements did not match the insurance benefit statement............ read more

Do not goo!!!!!!!!!! They are charging for a cold testing they never did. They told me I needed two root canals . Went to Lee & Miliani family dentistry and they told me "who told you you need a root canal on both teeth , you only need a root canal on one tooth. Charged me 1,131 for only two root canals . Wife had an appointment 10am. They called and said they wouldn't have enough time to see her until the afternoon. We rescheduled for 230. They did an xray and then told her that she needed an hour for cleaning and they didn't have time and she needed to reschedule! What the F! If she needed and hour; that's the whole point of making an appointment. Why would they schedule her if they didn't have the time to do the full appointment!? Just inconvenience us and make us come back another day. Customer service is non existent!! read more

I am only giving one star because I thought Dr Lee and the hygienist Becky were excellent. It is unfortunate that the incompetent staff represent them so poorly. I took my son for an exam, he needed a cleaning and his wisdom teeth removed. The quote I got was over $1800. I knew my insurance covered more than that so I researched it myself and I was over quoted by more than $1500!!!! When I called the office to ask that they take a second look they refused. The receptionist told me the wisdom tooth quote was for "their" oral surgeon who isn't on my insurance. That would have been good to tell me at the time I booked the surgery, no? So I asked for a referral to a surgeon on my plan (I have an HMO, it is their contractual responsibility) and she refused. She said she could write the referral but I was on my own to find someone. Fine, I show up in the office today for my other two kids' appointments and the dentist is not there. They say they tried to call yesterday, but my cellphone log shows nothing. I'm sure they are perfect and never misdial, but how about the courtesy of a follow up call when I haven't called back to confirm I got the alleged message so that I wouldn't have spent this beautiful day that I took off of work doing nothing waiting around for this appointment! So I asked for the referral which was supposed to have been waiting at the desk for me now for over a week and surprise, it was never done. I am forced to wait for almost 30 minutes while they write a new one. (Literally, a preprinted form with his name and a scribbled signature on it) I won't ever return and I don't recommend this clinic at all. If I wasn't in the medical field and familiar with how insurance works, I could have overpaid ALOT!!! How many others has this office taken to the cleaners just because they weren't informed? If you're an existing patient, I recommend you review your insurance statements and compare to what you paid and then find a new Dentist. read more

This review is for the Northwest Location on Bandera Rd. I switched insurance plans and had to find a new dentist for my 3 children. We had been seen by a pediatric dentist in the past so I was hesitant to take them to a general dentistry office. I was concerned about taking them to a "chain" dentistry office. My kids loved their visit yesterday which included x-rays, cleaning, sealants for two and one filling repair on a filling that had been recently done by our former pediatric dentist. The child needing the filling repair complained about her filling when it was done and I should have listened because it cracked. She was happy to have it repaired the same day as her cleaning appointment. Lee Dental Centers has a few locations but the Northwest Location felt like a small family dental practice - very warm and welcoming. My kids loved the hygienist, Clare, and Dr. Donowho. The staff was very friendly. They all apologized for keeping us there so long. I did not know what they were apologizing for. All three of my children were seen immediately and the additional treatments/repair that had not been scheduled were performed the same day. read more

Worst Dentist experience in 30 years of life. I'm new to the San Antonio metro and needed to get my annual cleaning. At the day of the appointment, I spent two hours being shuffled around, hurry up and wait, and being examined. No cleaning. In the end, they wanted $2k that day or $1100 if I wanted to do "cheap" route for a deep gum cleaning. All that with some high dollar insurance that already a great deal of money. They seemed to actually be amazed I didn't just having that cash on hand. They tried to convince me that I would need to return every 3 months for regular cleaning plus monthly tissue cleaning. If this was the only dentist in the world, I would just have my teeth pulled. *** Then I come back to get my x-rays. I put in for them (another release to sign), after calling, and told to come back in a few days. In a few days, I return and they weren't ready. According to the secretary, they were pulled but no one did the work. Here's the kicker, it took 15 minutes. They could copied them the day of saving me alot trouble, time, and trip. *** Finally update, Saw the new dentist. First, there wasn't a problem. Second, he wanted to overcharge. I never post reviews, but I'm so mad about my experience here, that I want to warn people about this place. I saw the bad reviews from a while ago, but I also saw the more recent reviews that were good, so I figured I'd give them a chance. The X-ray tech girl was very nice and so was the dentist, but I said I'd like a cleaning, so the hygienist came to examine my teeth to let me know what kind of cleaning I'd need. She looked at all my teeth, and explained to me that I'd need a cleaning that wasn't covered by insurance, a deep cleaning that would be $210 out of pocket. She told me I had gingivitis and that the cleaning would get rid of it. I was told I have cavities, and that I may need a root canal, so the dentist gave me a referral to an endodontist. Before I had even left the building, they had a payment plan all ready for me, including the deep cleaning fee, and a cap for the root canal which I hadn't even been examined yet for, to determine if I needed it. They told me I could pay a certain amount up front that day and pay the rest on a plan, or that I could pay everything, which was around $1300 that day. I told them I'd need to get a second opinion. I went to a different dentist who said my teeth and gums were fine, just a little sensitive, no cavities. He did refer me to an endodontist to see if I need a root canal, but had no payment plan ready for me. He recommended I get a cleaning there, but the office let me know it would be covered by my insurance. I called my insurance to let them know about this place and told them how they wanted to charge me $210 for a deep cleaning, and my insurance provider told me deep cleanings are covered by my insurance. That was the final straw that made me feel I needed to write a review to let people know about this place. read more

I'm the son of a great dentist (who has retired from general dentistry) so i'd like to think i have high expectations and know what to look for in a dental practice. I Started going to see Dr Christal at the Leon Springs office because they take Medi-Share. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience from the time i called to set up my appointment all the way through my visits. Everyone i interacted with was excellent and professional. Before i left my first appointment i called my wife to tell her to book an appointment. My husband and I have been patients at Lee Dental for approx 8 years and insured under a DMO plan which means the dental office gets paid monthly for EVERY patient who has selected them as the primary care dentist under a DMO plan, regardless if the patient ever receives treatment or not. My plan does not cover a resin (white) filling unless it is not on an molar, but covers the silver amalgam filling on a molar. My husband was told he had a molar cavity and they never offered an amalgam filling, instead, gave us a treatment plan which listed a resin filling that we would have to pay for out of pocket before they would even schedule the appointment. After checking with my DMO plan, I was told that if the dentist does not offer the silver amalgam, they CAN NOT charge for the resin. The dentist, Dr. Quintanilla REFUSED to change her recommendation to fill with resin-- not to mention it was never even offered to begin with and only came up when I questioned the procedure. After informing LEE Dental of what my DMO advised about not being allowed to charge for the resin if they don't offer the amalgam, they contacted my DMO to have us REMOVED from their patient list! My husband had not been into the office for any treatment for 4 years so LEE Dental had been paid approximately $1200 just to have my husband on their patient list and they dropped us over a $60 dispute. We also have 4 children on the patient list that LEE Dental has been collecting a monthly stipen off of for years. Although the silver amalgam filling is covered, the dentist does not get paid anything extra-- it's part of the monthly fee they get paid every month and so the only way the dentist makes any money on a filling is to CHARGE THE PATIENT for an uncovered procedure! They also included a $125 electric toothbrush and $30 toothpaste in the treatment plan. I have always been concerned with the general hygiene in the office. Other dentist offices I have bee in cover EVERYTHING with plastic, including the reflective light that the dentist and hygenist touch repeatedly throughout a treatment-- you won't find that at this LEE Dental office-- always kinda grossed me out! I couldn't believe this dental office treated me, a loyal patient for approximately 8 years, in this manner. Time to find a new dentist but I have a feeling it will be the same scheme no matter where we go. read more

Upon entry for my first visit, another customer asked if I had been to Lee Dental Centers before. I responded no....and she quickly gave me a look....and said this place was too expensive as she walked out the door...lost a customer I think. She did provide some foreshadowing. I've seen dentists regularly most of my life....the practices at Lee Dental Centers are not typical. Usually a scheduled cleaning is one visit: the technician does the cleaning, and the doctor follows up with an exam in a clean mouth....and the result is one co-pay! I've never had my exam and cleaning separated into two visits.....hence two co-pays. Sneaky! Additionally...I've never been told that my cleaning didn't include the fluoride treatment....hence another payment of $39. When I questioned the receptionist she told me this fluoride treatment was not covered. I called my insurance about this....and they wanted to know specific coding by the dental office...because they too believed this was an error. The following day was my scheduled cleaning (and second appointment)....fortunately the technician realized that my fluoride treatment was covered by insurance...and that the receptionist had made a mistake. The thought of having to pre pay my services. .never heard of. I have HMo insurance. They said its because a lot of people cancel and that takes the Dentist time. I was unhappy of my services. I went for a permenant crown. My first appointment felt more like a sales pitch and felt a bit of pressure of the dentist recommendations. However I stood my ground and responded I will take it under consideration. My second appt was the actual build up and the temporary crown. That wasn't so bad and was given good news that they were able to save the tooth. My third visit, I went for my permenant crown. Well just say I left out of there totally upset. Here is the reason. The technician was trying to remove the cemented temporary crown and as she tried to pull directly down, I felt the pressure of the pin pulling. I let her know that I kept feeling as she is pulling the pin with the cemented crown. She tugged and pulled again and again. I was't in pain, but continued to feel the center pin being pulled as she tried to remove the cap. Anyways, she decided to let the dentist remove it. All she had to do was grab it from the side and tugged it slightly. Wouldn't you believe it that the whole dam thing came off. cemented crown and the pin. Now I am told it can not be fix. The tooth will have to be removed. I so wanted to strangle the technician. I kept my cool and left with my temporary crown back cement on. Here is the kicker. I still get charged for the lab fees and the build up. I will not return to this center again. All I was trying to do was to keep my dental appts with my husbands in the same location. I made a bad decision. I should have followed my gut instincts and used my previous dentist. At least now, they are able to same my tooth which will require a bit of work, but its better than loosing it. It still aggravates me thinking of it. read more
