Had an issue with my 1998 Eddie Bauer Explorer transmission hesitating before dropping into first gear from standing start. Homy diagnosed the problem quickly and proceeded to inspect the root cause. Homy was able to determine the problem and Oscar made the repairs quickly and ready before estimated time. Had gone to another shop prior to going to Homy and the shop wanted to charge me over $2000 to rebuild the tranny. Homy is fair and repair cost very reasonable, less than half than the other shop. Got my diagnostic from the dealer then checked with a local shop who could not do the job, but said the dealer price was a good deal. Checked with Homy to see if I could keep it local and he was knowledgable, went out of his way to find the parts within my timeframe, did the work quicker than promised, and for less than the dealer. I found this shop while waiting for the tow truck. The reviews were right. We got there just before closing time. Homy suggested we put some of our luggage in his truck and he drove us to find a hotel. The next morning he assessed the problem, and gave us a quote and time to repair. When we stopped by with our rental van he brought us into the shop and showed us the worn transmission parts and thoroughly explained what went wrong. A very fair and honest business. We came into the shop with a mostly dead transmission. Overhaul or replace, that was the question. Replace was the decision; it would be the fastest choice and get us on our way the soonest. Tom not only got the new transmission and replaced it in two days, he arranged for us a vehicle to use for those two days so we wouldn't miss our appointment about 60 miles away. I needed a new transmission for my 2007 Dodge Caravan. After searching on Google and the internet, I called All American Transmissions and Auto Service(Lee Myles) in Salinas, CA. The estimate given for a rebuilt transmission was good, so I took the vehicle in the following day for the repair. The next day the shop owner, Homey, called to let me know that the old transmission was out and being fixed, but there were some other issues that he felt I should know about. I went over there to the shop and he pointed out that the brake pads were worn very thin and also there were spots on the hoses that lead to and from the radiator to the engine that were badly cracked and ready to fail. I appreciated knowing about these 2 issues because if left as is could lead to a roadside breakdown or an accident. Homey was upfront with his evaluation of the conditions mentioned, gave me the estimate for the additional repairs, and left it up to me to decide. Of course, I had the other two areas of concern fixed. He still was able to have the vehicle finished when promised even with the extra work and at a price far less than at the dealer. He even called me the following day to see if everything was operating satisfactorily. Who does that these days? My Dodge Caravan runs great now and safely! We took our 1993 Honda Accord to Lee Myles Transmission in Salinas because the clutch was slipping. They replaced the clutch, along with a few other problems they found such as a broken engine mount and leaking clutch cylinder. The car is running great. They got our ok before doing the extra engine-mount and clutch-cylinder work (the labor was free). Very professional and helpful. They were insistent that we contact them if there were any problems with the car whatsoever. I restore old cars as a hobby and do all of the mechanical work myself, including rebuilding the engines (most recently a 1938 Dodge). But I plan to take any of the major work on our newer (1993 is "new" to me) cars to Lee Myles. This would be the work that I don't want to do myself, such as clutches, cv joints, etc. (Lee Myles in Salinas does much more types of auto repair work than just transmissions). read more

I took my ford edge to the dealership which told me I needed a new "pto" unit and it was going to cost 2400.00. I decided to take my car to Lee Myles, and was so relieved to find out that it was a seal. I was quoted 1300.00. * Shop was broken into overnight. when I left my car there to repair the transmission. "Nothing was stolen from the cars," the manager told me the next day. Not a safe area of Salinas. I was worried yet he had a bad attitude towards me, a bit perturbed, like I was accusing him of something. I didn't appreciate that. * I've never had a transmission replaced before, so I asked a lot of questions. The manager, who knows business but doesn't do the repairs, talked on and on about Jasper transmissions. So it came to a surprise that when I was going to sign the paper the manager switched the transmission to the Transtar (not as good as Jasper) then said, "Well, if you want Jasper then you have to pay a few hundred more." That was deceitful: talking about a product for 10 minutes then selling a lesser product. * It took them an extra day than they predicted, for unforeseen problems. I had no choice but to wait. When they finally replaced the transmission, I knew I was never coming back. Drive to Seaside and take it to AAMCO. Don't use this place. read more

I took my Acura in for a transmission rebuilt a few months ago. Unfortunately, the rebuilt transmission was not working OK. Tom took the car back and kept it until they found the problem and re-did the whole job at no extra cost to me. They were also generous to give my car a free oil change... While back the wife's 01 Sebring sounded like it was coming apart, heavy metal/pounding noise.....local shops all told me OTP, it's a "Sludge maker" tough luck, needs a new motor, this without any examination....Tom from Lee Myles took the car in, did some analysis, ran some fluids----flushes through the motor and offered another option......instead of a new motor and a 5K invoice, I spent less than half that with new sump, new water pump and other necessary items, car runs smooth and clean......indeed, if you have a 2.7 Chrysler motor car, BEWARE! Do your own research on line----this apparently is a very problematic motor! You may want to do some "Preventive" maintenance or call him to have your motor examined! read more

I can't say enough good things about Tom and his team. Not only did I trust my '40 Ford Street Rod in his hands that fixed a positioning problem with the original install of the transmission, I have used him for engine problems with my 2005 Ford F250 4x4. Now if you know about the historical problems with the Ford 6.0L Diesel engines in these years, you will know what I am talking about. Tom went beyond in working through the problems, made sure he used OEM Ford replacement parts and got my truck back to a smooth running vehicle. Would I use Tom's shop again? In a heartbeat! I own (2) '66 Fastback Mustangs, as well, and if there is ever a problem with them that I can't handle, Tom is where I would take them.
