Stopped at Lee's for lunch. Chicken was fresh, hot, crispy and tasty! We got the lunch meals so just a biscuit with the chicken, and the biscuits were very good--not old and cold! Very pleasurable lunch experience and a nice clean restroom. My only negative is the handicap spot is locating directly by the drive thru so I had to walk with my walker through the drive thru to get to the entry door. read more

The location on westnedge in Portage/Kalamazoo, MI is and has THE WORST service I have EVER encountered at a fast food restaurant, EVER. I am an executive in this community and bad word about restaurants spreads wayyyy faster than good service. The people were SO RUDE. Took my sons phone out of his hands and walked it through the restaurant AFTER we waited a half an hour in the drive thru lane AFTER we ordered ONLINE prior to coming to the restaurant. The workers did not acknowledge us at the window for ten minutes. The service is HORRIBLE here. There is NO customer service-I am SICK over the fact that I paid for food that should have FREE after that horrific experience. I am so impressed with your service at this location. The person who I believe to be the manager, was present both times I was in there. It's not often that I go out of my way to write a review, but her service has been so impressive two times that I have been in here, and the food was better than I have had at any other fast food restaurant. I am from Niles Michigan, but I would literally go out of my way to get the chicken at your location because of the service that your manager there provides the next time I'm in there, I should go out of my way to thank her personally because it's not often that you see someone care about the work they do. read more

So I waited in the drive through line for 20 minutes. When I got up to the menu, I was informed that they were closed. I pulled up to the window to speak to the cashier and informed her that per Yelp they were open until 1030 and she said no they closed at 9pm. I said that wasn't fair as I was in line for 20 minutes. I tried Lee's last night and have mixed reviews. On one hand. The drive through went fairly quickly and ordering was not difficult whatsoever (5 piece strips w/double fries). The portion are HUGE for a decently fair price (about $10) and hot (which I enjoyed). The flavors itself...The wedges were amazing but the chicken was a bit on the saltier spectrum of life. I will give this chain one more try before I commit to a decision, but thus far, meh. read more

If you are not okay with coming out of there smelling like you showered in grease, maybe you should choose a place that has baked chicken (which, lets be honest, is probably going to suck, but at least you wont slip on the thin layer of grease that is covering the floor on your way in/out). Okay, so I lied, my other complaint: can we figure out the parking situation here? I don't need the people walking into the bible book store judging me for my glutenous ways. Go on about your business while I head in here to clog an artery or 4. You don't know me... you don't know my struggles.... But, if you want to throw me a prayer or two later on for good health regarding this future coronary situation I am creating, then I totally take back all the previous sarcastic comments I just made. A few things to consider. I didnt mind going to Lee's Chicken, in Kalamazoo on Rivereview, until now. I've watched a patterned that disturbs me. The last four times I came, they closed 30 to 40 minutes early. If not that they inquired, they ran out of chicken. Now keep in mind, during this statement, people are laughing in the background. So even if it's true, it looks bad. This happened twice. I spoke to a lady as I drove off, she didn't help make me believe this was true. As suggested by a fellow Yelper, My husband and I decided to try Lee's $5 deal. We went with Wings instead of Dark meat since I don't eat dark meat at all. For wings, we went with Spicy. It wasn't spicy but got a good flavor and crispiness to it. I got an extra biscuit for .79 as well. Warm biscuit and honey- it is so good! The service was pretty fast and the lady who took our order was pretty patient when we asked for the suggestions. I'd love to try again while they still have the same deal going on. read more

$5 deals on dark meat chicken boxes-thanks to a fellow yelper, let me know about this. I like the chicken coating they use here. It has a stronger blend of spices than your typical Kentucky style chicken which brings a more powerful flavor. I chose the spicy coating which gave me the right amount of kick to wake up my salivary glands. I've been a fan of Lee's Chicken for a while and this location gets my praise. I ask myself if the food would have tasted better if we stayed in the restaurant to eat it or if it would have tasted the same as it did with the 10 min ride home. Let me start off by saying that the actual chicken was actually pretty tasted. What we found pretty lackluster were the sides and extras that we ordered. We ordered a side of gizzards that my husband immediately tried upon receiving the order, though the flavor of the gizzard was good the breading on the gizzard was extremely soggy. Once I got home I popped them in the air fryer to see if we could revive them. Unfortunately they tasted super salty after doing so. The May potatoes and gravy had good flavoring as well but the wedges were also extremely soggy. The mac and cheese had no cheese. It was literally just mac with yellow coloring. And the coleslaw was so warm you that it felt like they put it in the microwave before serving it. I would definitely come back for just the chicken but wouldn't come back for a full meal. read more

Westnedge Ave just north of highway 94 on the east side of the street (shares strip mall parking lot space but is a free standing building). Facility was clean for the most part, our table was a bit sticky from a previous patrons. The women's bathroom needed attention (wallpaper ripped off, toilet paper holder ripped out of the wall & sitting on the sink counter along with the toilet paper rolls. STAFF: The lady that took our order was a curly greyed haired lady. She was polite & did a great job. FOOD: We ordered 2 of the 5 piece chicken strip dinner meals (came with 2 sides & a biscuit) & a large drink. The biscuit are to die for!!!! They are soft (unlike KFC!), melt in your mouth with a nice butter flavor to them. The potato wedges have a great seasoning to them & are so good. The green beans were hot, fresh & had a really nice taste to them. The potato salad is clean, fresh & very good. And the chicken is excellent, wonderful spices, hot & fresh!!! One time, we had to wait longer than expected and the staff gave us free 2-piece chickens for the wait. Greasy fast food that hits the spot. When it comes to having a quick greasy bite. I definitely go to Lees Famous Recipe Chicken. I fear if this place were actually close to me. It's simple interior design, and spacious seating makes it quite the relaxing stop. From their funny signs, fishes, and depending on where you're sitting, a close trip to the bathroom. Lees has many good deals during lunchtime as well. I got gizzards for under five bucks, along with five pieces of chicken for about the same price. For nice cheap chicken you just want to help subside the a hunger pang. Sometimes the gizzards taste over fried and sometimes the chicken taste watery from the quick unthawing by the deep fryer. But I've never gotten sick from it, knock on wood. It's the best bet, I also enjoy their strawberry shortcake parfait. It used to be much bigger and cheaper, but what can you do if you love it, but get it? Besides the deals the store presents, you can sometimes find more in your mailbox. After a few experiences where the food was pretty terrible we had all but given up on Lee's, but at a catered event my husband's interest was renewed and our 3 subsequent visits have been great, with fresh, hot, well flavored, juicy chicken. Nothing was right with my drive thru order last night. I ordered the 8 piece that was supposed to come with 2 of each piece, instead I received 2 breasts, 4 legs, and 2 thighs. I ordered mild and received very spicy. Of course I never thought to check if my pieces and spice level were correct so I didn't realize it until I got home. Then we found out we did not have enough white meat and the chicken was too spicy to eat. What a waste of time and money on a bitter cold night. Having a regular game that meets every Saturday at the Fanfare across the lot means I get there early just so I can get a sit-down lunch here. It's that good. It is kind of expensive, but it's completely worth it, and I don't mind dropping a bit more cash when I feel I'm going to get my money's worth. The best part of the chicken would have to be... the chicken. That's right- unlike Chicken Coop, you take a bite of a nice, hot piece of chicken, and you get... flavor! Actual chicken that tastes like chicken, and slightly spiced breading that stays together on the bird and doesn't get mushy. The sides are yummy and delicious, and the sweet tea is pretty good. There is a drive-through, so now you have no excuse for not trying this place out if you're in the area. read more
