During a visit to town for Father's Day, my husband and I placed a large order to share with family. We had a 16-piece meal that came with 8 biscuits, and 3 large sides (cole slaw, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy). This was my first time eating here and I was rather impressed with the clean store, fast and efficient service and the accuracy of our order. Our wait was rather entertaining as well. You can tell that this is a popular spot with the locals. There were lots of "hi there" and "hellos" as well as some additional shenanigans. The place felt familiar in a very welcoming way. As previously stated, it was Father's Day, so many folks were dressed in their Sunday's best, but others were very casual. This is a pick-up only restaurant and there isn't a place to eat inside, but there was a small bench available for those waiting on their orders. It was busy, with a diverse clientele, but the staff worked diligently to get everyone in and out quickly. The food was delicious. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. The mac and cheese was creamy and the coleslaw had a nice bite to it. I wonder if the recipe includes horseradish. Everything felt reminiscent of KFC, but better...fresher. This is a carry out restaurant specializing in fried chicken. I personally feel it is much better than KFC, Popeyes or Churches. Very tasty chicken and cole slaw is awesome. I love lee's chicken. Got the chicken tenders. The Danville location is so small and busy, but grateful that I got my food! Love their green beans, almost tastes like my mommas. I've eaten my LAST Famous Chicken sandwich, after decades. They've changed how they make them and are a cataclysmic failure... not EVEN remotely like the original Chicken Breast sandwich. I can get chicken strips ANYWHERE and Buns and cheese, to make my own, for less cost and more flavorful. For decades the Lees Famous Chicken sandwich RULED. No one could even remotely compare. Ordered the eight piece meal. Stating w the good, the cole slaw and mashed w gravy were good as usual. The biscuits were so dried out like they were sitting out all day. The best chicken place in Danville, Illinois. I wish we had one in the Indy area. You can get a bucket of chicken. They have really good biscuits. They have quite a few sides to choose from. You order your food and then wait for them to call your number when your order is ready. Pretty quick service. The closest one to our area is in Anderson Indiana. The food was OK. We hardly ever eat here because of the inconsistency in the food. Green beans were mixed in with my chicken and noodles (I didn't order green beans). There were about 15 noodles & 1 piece of chicken in the whole medium sized container of chicken & noodles. I asked for no gravy on my mashed potatoes, they gave me gravy. I ordered (2) 2 piece meals and Stephanie ordered the chicken liver meal with potatoes and no gravy, well the gravy they must fill the remainder of the open space in the small side tub because there was only about 1/3 potatoes in it. Well I was really excited to come here since I don't get to go to lee's anymore. I live in California so of course I'm not able to find one near. Anyway I'm passing through Illinois and decided to stop here. The lady at the counter was very sharp and rude to me and other customers. I believe she might've been the manager. I don't know what her problem was but when I bit into I wasn't impressed. They gave me the tiniest chicken strips ever and filled my box up with a bunch of mushy potato wedges. Sometimes the employees suck and sometimes the place is dirty. It's also expensive, but that damn extra crispy chicken is amazing.
