On my visit, an older Womyn seemed to be in zombie mode - ie, non-attentive, and slow motion movement. The burger was rather uninspiring, and after one bite, the bun crumbled (see photo). I was lured in by the smell of sizzling beef as I was shopping in that area. I got a beautiful patty with cheese, dressed. Perfectly cooked medium. The shredded cheese was a little weird, but it worked. Flavor was all around, delicious. I'm so tired of paying close to $20 for a burger. This was just as good or better than most of them. Lee's Hamburgers is an old school New Orleans burger joint and you might just ask how old is old school? Well Lee's Hamburgers have been famous for their burgers since 1901. The 122 years of Lee's Hamburgers (as of 2023) really lends some well recognized experience to making great food and you would typically have rather high expectations of a place with such a long history. I have eaten at multiple locations of Lee's Hamburgers over the years and sampled many of their menu items. For this review at this location we will focus on my specific order for this one visit where I had a cheeseburger with a side of onion rings and it was certainly some cheeseburger deliciousness. Lee's Hamburgers are distinctive from many other fast food type joints like this as they definitely have thicker meat on their burgers than most other fast food places you are likely to find. For this visit I would have to say while my burger was good I've had better in the past at this location and at other locations of Lee's Hamburgers. Lee's isn't meant to be fine dining, it's meant to be a place to get a cheap burger and some surprisingly good frozen fries for cheap. If you want a really nice burger, there's really nice places with fitting prices, but if you can only afford fast food and want a thick homestyle local burger, Lee's is awesome. I'm not sure why anybody would get anything other than the burger. It's not really meant to be a super appealing environment or a diverse menu of spectacular food, it's just a place to stop by and grab a burger when you're in the area and hungry. read more

The manager/owner was completely disrespectful to his employees, who were both working as hard as they could. He's practically a bully to them. I was only there to pick up an order for Grubhub and had to watch that go on. A party of four who ordered waited outside so that they wouldn't have to hear it. The poor grillman apologized to the diners eating in there and he shouldn't have had to do that. That manager/owner needs a guy like Jon Taffer or Robert Irvine to set him straight. I've eaten here for years... I've been a huge fan. Today the place that's been going down hill finally hit rock bottom. The counter employee/manager was rude (this has happened before, but today was the worst), the chicken strips tasted fishy (like they fried seafood and hadn't changed the grease). I gotta say, I'm never all that impressed with Lee's... I always get the dressed cheeseburger and chili cheese fries, and I always leave unsatisfied. The burger today had a dry, very slightly stale bun that took away from the overall taste, and the meat really is pretty bland. They cook the burgers on a griddle with a "cone" of onions atop that always makes my mouth water as I watch it cook, but then ends up delivering a less than exciting taste... Today we had an issue with the fries... I ordered the chili cheese fries, and our order was to-go. So, after the bags were packed, my friend and I picked everything up off the counter and started making our way to the door. The kid at the counter forgot to mention that the bag with the fries needs to stay level... soooo, by the time we got to the front door, the bag was vertical and a nice helping of chili grease was all over the floor and my buddy's pants. When we went back to the counter, the kid informed my friend that he bagged the fries separately to avoid exactly what happened, he just forgot to tell us about it... he took the fries back, and before re-bagging them, dumped a giant helping of additional chili and grease into the tray. After getting home and eating the fries, we were not all that impressed... the chili was overwhelming, and there was not enough cheese. I ended up adding garlic salt in an attempt to get some taste going... Final observation... while waiting for our order, we noticed that the table we were sitting at was filthy... sticky, spilled salt, etc... it always bothers me when a restaurant staff doesn't take the time to walk around and clean up a little, especially when the floor is not busy with customers. I visited this establishment on yesterday 09/1223, when I walked in the cashier was sitting at the table on her phone and when she noticed I was walking in she got up never greeted me just stood at the register and asked what I wanted to order. When i walked in the door i noticed there were made burgers sitting on the grill which I thought was very odd, secondly as I stated the employee took my order and then proceeded to make my meal and never washed her hands! As I waited on my order I went to the restroom and upon me walking to the back to restroom I smelled a foul smell, I still proceeded to the restroom and along the way there was a door that was opened that appeared to be connected to the kitchen that was very dirty and not sanitary! I went into the restroom and once I was finished to wash my hands there was no soap for me to wash my hands! Immediately that made me sick to the stomach because how are the employees washing their hands after the bathroom use! When I walked back in the lobby there were 2 other employees just hanging around talking with the cashier. After i received my food I sat at the table and table was so sticky and nasty I couldn't believe it! If there's 3 employees is this establishment why weren't the tables cleaned! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I'm definitely contacting the health department about my concerns because this was just a gross experience all together! read more

Before this was a Lee's it was a bakery. One run by part of my family, actually. So walking in is always an odd experience for me since I know the space so well even though it's been remodeled in the years since I was last there. But that odd feeling only lasts a moment and soon the delicious smell of burgers pulls me from my reverie. I'm a big fan of Lee's and always visited the one on Vets down by Oaklawn. I spent my weekends in the neighborhood behind there when I was growing up and my friends and I always got lunch there on Saturday. So walking into a location on Metairie Rd that has one tiny menu board listing just the burger with the works and fries while there are four larger menu boards showing a bunch of sandwiches that I've never seen at Lee's is a bit odd. If there wasn't a sign with the name outside I never would have guessed that this place sells Lee's burgers. Really, this is more like a sandwich shop (that also proudly proclaims it has ice cream as well) that just has the Lee's name and signature burger. It's like a franchise, like a Starbucks inside a book store. It's not really a Starbucks but still has what you go there for. So, what about the burgers? Well, they are exactly what I expect in my Lee's burger. They're full of onions, moist and delicious. The recipe and love of burgers is there, as are the fries. The setting may have changed but the food is just as good. read more

Lee's is a life long icon for me but the last time we went there in 2017 it was so dirty and greasy everywhere we made time to talk to the current manager and show all the grease on everything including the inside windows, pepper shakers, chairs, walls, etc. I make the mistake of trying it again after only assuming it would be clean. I just ordered delivery so not sure what it's like to eat at the restaurant but with the delivery experience, I can say the food is not bad for the price at all; it is reasonable. However, it's simple things that are missed like the turkey burger I ordered was cooked well except the bread was soggy and not toasted at all. The chicken cordon bleu was pretty good for the price. The owner is a complete monster. I work for Uber and was picking up an order for a customer, they didn't have the order ready and it was already 20 minutes past the time I arrived. So I decided to call the customer to give them peace of mind that the order was still being cooked and I would be there as soon as possible. The customer really appreciated me letting them know. The owner heard me talking to the customer and got really angry with me and started screaming and yelling at me telling me how to do my job as an Uber driver and then I should never call the customer for any reason. When I told him I had PTSD and not to scream at me he said he would pray for me. What?! Pray for me? He seems like a controlling individual with abusive tendencies.
