Would be more than happy to come back to any Lees location to try their banh mi including the BBQ Pork, Teriyaki Chicken, or Shredded Chicken. I noticed you could also do any Banh Mi as a bowl too! They also have brekky sandwiches served on a baguette or croissant, appetizers, soups, tea/smoothies/other drink options, and more. My mom and I stopped by to grab bánh mì and coffee before our long drive back to LA. We figured Lee's would be a safe choice... but wow, were we wrong. Looking back, we should've just driven to San Jose for a proper bánh mì and Vietnamese coffee. The drinks were the first disappointment. I ordered the Biscoff coffee, and I honestly couldn't taste much of anything--it was incredibly watered down. My mom got the classic cà phê sữa đá, and she kept saying something about it just tasted... off. We also ordered the bánh mì heo quay (roasted pork belly), but what we got was nothing like what we expected. Instead of crispy, flavorful pork belly, the sandwich was filled with overly caramelized pieces that were rock hard. It was so tough that my jaw hurt after a couple of bites. If you're looking for a jaw workout, this sandwich has you covered. Since I ordered from the self-service kiosk, I didn't have any interaction with the staff, so I can't really comment on the service. The restaurant itself also left a lot to be desired. The dining area felt run-down, and one thing that really caught my attention was a large residential-style trash bin sitting in front of the restroom. It was such an odd sight and made the space feel neglected. To top it all off, one bánh mì and two coffees came out to about $32, which felt incredibly overpriced considering the quality. Unfortunately, this ended up being a waste of both time and money. There are so many better Vietnamese bakeries and coffee shops in the area. I haven't ordered a sandwich from here in a long time, so this review is just for the coffee LOL Banana Cream Coffee (small $7.50): I do not dare get a large no matter what kind of day I'm having, so I cannot speak to the price of a large size. I heard about Lee's coming out with Biscoff and Banana Cream flavors, so I was excited to try. Goodness me I was not expecting slices of banana and a Nilla wafer topping off my drink!! I've had Lee's Sandwiches plenty of times back when I lived in the South Bay. I'm Vietnamese and Lee's is kind of like McDonald's for us. It's not the best banh mi but it usually gets the job done when you're craving one. This location is much smaller compared to other Lee's I've been to. I ordered the vegetarian bì chay banh mi with shredded fried tofu, taro, and veggies, which is usually my go to when I want a vegetarian sandwich. I haven't had Lee's in a long time since there are so many better banh mi spots now, and this visit reminded me why. The biggest issue is the bread. Vietnamese baguettes are supposed to be slightly crisp on the outside but light and airy on the inside. The bread here was really dense and chewy and tasted doughy. Lee's bread has never been great in my opinion. At other locations it's usually too dense and overly hard to the point it scrapes the roof of your mouth. This one was just bad in a different way. It was heavy and doughy without that light texture you expect. The filling itself was fine and the mayo was good, but the bread really ruined the sandwich. Not sure what happened to this location. But the service and quality is not the same. Came here for lunch with a friend. The service was okay. I ordered the crispy pork belly banh mi. And oh my, it was so oily. So oily that it pretty much seeped through the wrapper. I've never come across this issue with this sandwich. It was quite unappealing to eat. I had an interesting experience here! I decided to try the Vietnamese iced coffee with extra ice. I don't usually drink coffee, but I thought the extra ice would make it lighter. OMG -- it was so strong! I was completely wired and didn't feel great for the rest of the day. Definitely too strong for me, but I have to admit it had a really nice flavor. I also ordered the pork, shrimp, and taro roll, which was absolutely delicious. The texture and flavor were spot on, and it paired perfectly with the sweet and sour sauce. Worst Lee's ever. I understand this is a chain restaurant, but by far in the Bay Area, this has to be the worst Lee's sandwich. Tbh, this shouldn't even be called Lees. I was so excited when I saw a lees opening in the tri valley, but only to be disappointed by the quality of food and ingredients. The sandwiches are subpar at best. Now when I crave for a banh mi, I go next store for a bagel. You may ask, but a bagel isn't a banh mi, correct , bc lees here is that terrible, I'd rather choose something else. I hadn't been to this Lee's Sandwiches location in almost two years. I remember when Lee's was only in San Jose, so I had higher expectations coming back. The service and ambiance were just okay. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with the spring rolls. They were tasteless, and the peanut sauce was horrible--it looked, felt, and tasted old. That alone ruined the experience for me. We've been here before and also catered from them before. Our experiences with food quality is pretty consistent. My significant other likes their sandwiches a lot but I really like their bowls. We got the grilled pork bowl and the portobello bowl the other day. Both were generous servings. Even though portobello stir-fry can sound a bit plain, this dish was packed with flavor! We also like their grilled pork sausage sandwiches too. For catering orders, we really appreciate how easy it was to communicate with the owner, and that the staff went the extra mile to wrap each half sandwich so that our guests could try different half sandwiches and also not they needed to eat whole sandwich if they could only eat half. Pickup was also super easy-we paid in advance and the order was ready for pick up day of the event. Would definitely consider catering from them again. Service is generally efficient. It can get messy and bread crumbs get every where. Cafe sua da is always good and strong. Wished their cha lua banh mi came with pate instead of it being an add on compared to other spots. The pork egg rolls are fresh and crispy. Have tons of filling in them. Overall a good spot if you're craving banh mi but there are better options in the area. Pricing is a bit high though. read more
