The one star review is because of the conditions of the store - their AC has been broken for OVER A MONTH in this hot summer heat. It's literally hotter in the store than outside! It makes me nervous how are they keeping the food cold? It feels like a hot sauna here and I was struggling just making my order. I couldn't even stand it for 5 min, I don't know how the poor employees do this for their shift. I'm very sad to see Lees go downhill this way. Honestly I'm more of a BMC gal, but it's good to change it up a bit (also I don't think there are any more of these close to my area anymore either). I am an avid Lee's sandwich goer and am particularly impressed with this Lee's Sandwich location! First thing I noticed was how clean this location is compared to other locations. Tables and restrooms are clean - no crumbs or sticky tables. And the staff is super friendly! I always order the grilled pork banh mi and I can assure you they make a solid one here I noticed that the bread they use here is softer (but with a nice crisp on the outside), which I appreciate because it doesn't scratch the roof of my mouth like some other banh mi's do LOL. Also, they're so generous with the toppings! They're not stingy with the meat OR the pickled daikon and radishes (which are my favoriteee). This particular location (a few doors down from Nine & Nine Thai Kitchen with limited street parking available) is pretty small with very limited seating and can be an easy miss when driving down Colorado Blvd. This location was participating in providing free appreciation meals last month. And since then, I have been back to this location a few times. On my most recent visit (last Tuesday afternoon), I ended up making a mobile order (and picked up in person): #5 grilled chicken sandwich, $5.49 prior to tax + $0.75 for egg added- This is one of usual favorite sandwiches to order. I always request to have the jalapenos removed since I don't do well with spicy food and added the egg to give this sandwich a little bit more flavor and texture. I like that you have the option to add in a soft or well done egg. I requested for my sandwich to be cut in thirds on the app, which I love and had no idea you could request for that prior to using the app. #11 special combo sandwich, $5.99 prior to tax- My husband ordered this, which one of his usual favorites (and the #1, the combination special). He was happen with his sandwich, in which he ate it the next day for lunch and it was still great. Lee's Coffee, Large, $4.49 prior to tax- My husband wanted a coffee so I got him a large size. He liked it but be warned that you may be up all night if you get a large size. Lee's Milk Tea, $2.99 prior to tax + $0.50 for boba- Who knew Lee's had milk tea? I thought I would give it a try and ended up liking it. The price is not bad. Deli Manjoo, 8 pieces, $2 prior to tax- I ended up making 2 orders of this. Oh man I love these steamed cakes, in which they are shaped in tiny little corn on the cob and filled with custard. The employee who helped me with my order at pick up told me to be careful since they are hot. I appreciated the warning. ------------------------------------ (Total= $25.50 after tax) When my husband and I came to pick up our order, the employee who helped us had put everything in a reusable bag (given to us free of charge), with the exception of the drinks and gave us a drink holder for that. I thought that was very nice of him to do that (this reusable bag looks like a winter/ holiday bag and most likely was trying to clear out their inventory. I am very appreciated for the free bag regardless). Service has always been friendly here, even when the employees were working double time cranking out free sandwiches for all those health care workers last month. Never had they ever seemed frustrated or stressed when taking orders at the register (if it was me, you would probably tell that I was stressed out with a line that was way out the door on those days). #4 is my lucky number So I ordered the grilled chicken Let me tell you, the bread makes this place. Come early when they open. They bread is crusty , soft, chewy and fresh. Crunch factor from the veggies and good amount of chicken. It was $8 tho.. times are rough right now due to the recession but happy to support this place. It was a bit of a surprise to find this in Pasadena in all places (#1), but since it was closest outlet for Vietnamese coffee, I ain't mad at it. To consider it above any other Lee's would be a mistake though, everything is going to be a little bit limited here. The place feels like a sweet cafe inside of a greater mall. For people who are used to the typical Lee's layout with the baked items out and spacious seating, that ceases to exist here. Most of the tables are for single folks or couples at best and the staff here is more English friendly than they are Viet fluent. As usual, I got multiple instances of their caphe sua da, both in cups and in bottles. I wanted some banh mi, but they noted it was too early in the morning for anything so I settled for their remaining pate so (#2)f. They do make sandwiches here though during later hours and they're made to order. I enjoyed everything I had, but if given a choice I'd prefer a regular Lee's than this. I love Lee's! I primarily go here for the Vietnamese iced coffee if I'm in need of a STRONG pick-me-up. Their sandwiches are good too! I always get the #5 grilled pork. It is super flavorful with tender meat. I suggest getting the sandwich with extra meat. Our server Robert was very nice and friendly. This place is very clean and has a clean restroom too. It is a chain vietnamese fastfood restaurant. It is designed and run like BK, Mac Donald, etc. (You get the idea) I just recently discovered they now have a restaurant in Pasadena and delivery via uber-eat app. There a 3 party tray options for 28 pieces of sandwich with different combination. We ordered party tray option A: $53 for 28 pieces, each piece about 4 inch baguette of various fillings to chose, grilled pork, bbq pork, chicken, combo, egg, etc. - combo sandwich: thin sliced jambon ( French ham), pork belly, pate, mints, cilantro, etc. - grilled pork and BBQ pork are similar taste. - pate (liver paste) is our favorite. The baguette is skinnier than what I could remember, crispy but a bit tough. Overall, it is pretty good for the price ($5.99 per sandwich or 1 feet long baguette). For 28 piece, we served 10 hungry adults and... we ate pretty much everything! In term of uber-eat app, they are charging more now. Delivery fee $13.49; tax $5, service fee $4; california benefit $1... plus tip 10-15% of the final total (you don't have to... but I feel it is a right thing to give tip to support our local peeps... plus gas price!) Apparently, I had stepped in during the lunch rush because it was somewhat busy with a couple parties ahead of me in line and more people waiting for their order. I placed my order for the #11 Special Combination and waited for a little over 15 minutes. Afterwards, the worker handed me and another gentleman our orders and I was on my merry way home to enjoy my banh mi with the works. ...except my banh mi did not contain the works. In fact, it did not contain any of the above mentioned special combination meats at all! Instead, upon unwrapping my sandwich, I was met with the disappointing sight of a grilled pork banh mi. Don't get me wrong, it tasted decent and I ended up eating it because I didn't want to go all the way back to the restaurant. The food was fantastic, and the coffee tasted great, though I'd add less ice in the ice coffee (I know how that may sound), not to mention the customer service! Lee's Sandwiches is a chain with several locations in the SGV. This one is a little smaller than most, but decided to stop by since we were in Pasadena and craving bahn mi. There is some 15 min parking on Colorado right out front which is pretty convenient. The interior was pretty small but they had decorated for the Christmas season. We ordered the special combo and grilled chicken which were about $6 each. You can get the veggies/pickles either in the sandwich or on the side. Came out pretty quickly after ordering. Overall the food was mediocre. The bread was ok - nice crunch but somewhat tough. I was most disappointed in the fillings since they tasted ok but were super skimpy on how much they gave you. Always happy with Lee's wherever they are, but this particular one is super-duper on the service side! Always like a family-run restaurant where they remember your names and common order preferences. While the take-out and catering versions are always good, I highly recommend eating in and savoring the fresh crunchy baguette crust before it absorbs humidity from being wrapped (which happens within about 30 minutes.) On Colorado across from the Target. My general favorites are the #11 Deluxe Combo (jambon, pork loaf, pork "head cheese" and pate; #6 Char Siu, #5 Grilled Pork (if you're more of a bacon fan). Order Extra Meat if you're more like a Subway/Jersey Mike kind of fan who likes them stuffed. Remember the Viet Iced Coffee bottles are frozen and concentrated - not ready-to-drink (for that you order from the counter). Lee's is very consistent across the franchise. There are always one or two Mom-and-Pop Banh Mi places that are extra special, but Lee's is a great stand-by whenever you run into one, and this particular one is really convenient. Nb - all the "Euro" sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches are better quality than the equivalents from other places, but they are not over-stuffed (mind the Extra Meat suggest above if you expect that type of sandwich.) read more
