This is not a review I wanted to do. This is for the McKinney Ranch location. I wanted to delete my original review and wash my hands of the situation, but that would not be fair to the people out there, like you, that love their dogs. So here goes. I have been taking my dogs here for years. Several times there was scooting post groom. My dogs are female. But I wrote that off to the complexities of grooming "down there". Took my dogs on Thursday October 24, 2024 for the usual. Picking them up, they seemed ok. Once we got home, however, they were scooting around like wind up toys. Then, my tiny 5 pound dog started screeching. She can be dramatic at times but this was over the top. Then crying. Hiding. Her v area (choosing carefully so as to not make my review vanish) was inflamed and she really freaked when I tried to examine. I called to see if anything happened. Left a message. No one called me back. I called again on Friday, was told they don't listen to their voicemail so I told him the whole story. He seemed unconcerned. Said the butt glands were probably irritated. I clarified again, it was not the butt. In front of the butt. And both dogs are suffering, although one is more stoic. He said they would call me back. No one did. Saturday, my tiny dog would not use her right hind leg. By Saturday night, my tiny dog was not eating and her whole personality had changed. She was in pain. Off to the doggy ER (VEG, in Allen, they were great). We arrived at 10:00 pm and left many hours later. Heavy duty pain meds and antibiotics. Ten day prescription for antibiotics. It took three more days after the ER for my dog to return to her old self. We had to hand feed her wet cat food, otherwise she wouldn't eat. What happened to my dog? I don't know. I wish I did but she's unable to tell me of course. We will not be going back here. I will figure out a way to groom the dogs myself with help from the vet for things I cannot handle. I simply no longer trust anyone to groom my dogs. Look at all reviews when deciding if you trust a place or not. The "unapproved" reviews are very telling. I am very sad this happened. I think this is the first negative review I have ever done. Hopefully the last. read more

I recently took my puppy to Top Dog Pet Grooming and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing and distressing. Upon picking up my puppy, I was informed in a disrespectful manner that she had been nicked during the grooming process, despite clear evidence that the injury was more severe than described. The owner, EJ, handled the situation in an unprofessional manner, showing a lack of empathy and failing to de-escalate the distressing circumstances. Not only did my puppy require overnight care and sutures due to the severity of the cut, but she also needed to undergo a procedure requiring anesthesia. This resulted in an unexpected financial burden of $812.01 that I had to cover out of pocket first and hope I would be reimbursed the next day by the grooming salon, and I was. The lack of accountability and empathy displayed by the owner and staff of Top Dog Pet Grooming is deeply concerning. It is evident that the grooming establishment failed to provide a safe and professional environment for the animals in their care. The disregard for the well-being of my puppy and the dismissive manner in which the situation was handled are inexcusable. I strongly advise pet owners to avoid Top Dog Pet Grooming due to the evident lack of competence and professionalism displayed by the staff and management. The distressing experience I endured, coupled with the subsequent financial burden and emotional strain, is something no pet owner should have to go through. In conclusion, the lack of accountability, professionalism, and empathy demonstrated by Top Dog Pet Grooming is deeply troubling. I urge prospective clients to consider alternative grooming facilities that prioritize the safety and well-being of the animals under their care. Attention to detail is one thing that I look for here are the details : -He cut her with his blades -He was disgusting rather than apologetic -He let her sit there hurt and cut and waited for the area to dry up, covering the spot -He told me she was fine and take her to the vet if I felt differently -I paid for the service -She needed to go under anesthesia, have three stitches and provided medication for the procedure -I have to give her a pill once every day, until it runs out for four days -Liquid medication is also provided and given in a syringe every 8 to 12 hours as needed for pain control -My puppy has a cone around her head to make sure she doesn't agitate the stitches -She is unable to eat, play and be comfortable -Her visit to the vet was $812.01 read more

I have been going to this place for quite some time, even though I was hesitant at first because of a review someone posted about their dog's nail bleeding profusely. Still, this crew earned my trust over the years-- so much so that I have four dogs registered with them. They do great work; I will acknowledge that. I do not like posting bad reviews but I have to post this as a warning for all dogs who have special situations: In October, my aunt passed away and my family took in her dog. One of the first things we did was take her to get groomed, forgetting she has a skin tag near her mane. Strike one was totally our fault because we did not communicate her circumstance. Strike two happened again on Tuesday even though we overly communicated the situation this time. One of the workers did not believe us; they claimed that "it's probably matted hair." We called them back after dropping her off to recommunicate that it is a skin tag and if it gets cut it bleeds. Now, this is not a tiny skin tag. In fact, it feels more like a growth. So, it is not difficult to miss. Nevertheless, when we got her back it was gone and this scab remained. I called the manager to express our disappointment, but he didn't want to believe me. He said that it was a scab that had already been there. If it was a scab and you all gave her a bath before shaving her, how is there dried up blood in her hair? How is it that she had a growth there before but now there is just a scab? I posted photos below for reference. He insistently denied that they had done any wrong. I am actually disheartened because I have given them so much of my business over the years and they refused to hear what I was saying. Pet Safety Concern - Legacy Pet Grooming (McKinney) On Wednesday, June 12th we took our 9 pound Maltese/Papillion to be groomed, and when done, he was severely traumatized. While he was very energetic when dropped off, he was hiding in the corner on the floor under a work station when I arrived to pick him up (yes, he was loose on the floor). I was told by the owner that he's going to be "stiff and sore, but he will be OK the next day." I've never been told that from any other groomer we've ever used. Why would he be stiff or sore? I could tell right away that something was wrong with our pet, and within 10 minutes, he got sick and was shaking. He has only slept since he came home and won't eat. I'm concerned that he was given something while he was there or mistreated so badly to cause this trauma. Thirty-six hours later, he's finally eating some and walking again, but not back to normal. Has anyone else had this happen to their Pet and believed the owner that said it is normal for pets to be "stressed, stiff, sore" following a simple grooming? This is unacceptable. I've yet to find a groomer that states this is normal. See the before and after videos below and tell me that nothing happened. And to think, I paid more than $70 + tip for them to do this to our pet. Never Again. read more

Legacy Pet Grooming is now Top Dawg and are under different ownership, although some of the staff are still the same. Over the years the policies at this location have changed. I don't get my dog groomed because she is not that kind of dog. She just needs nail trims from time to time because I can't do it myself. Used to, I could just walk in and they would do the nail trims, then it got to where they would only do walk-in nail trims a few days a week between 7am & 8am. This morning I went over at 7am & they wouldn't do the nail trim unless I went and sat in my car. Considering I've never been asked to do that before, it made me uncomfortable wondering what they didn't want me to see. I am my little girl's caregiver and as such have a responsibility to her to make sure she's not put in a situation that could be stressful or detrimental to her. Part of that, is not leaving her alone in a place where I can't see what's going. I declined service and was told that's ok, they really don't do just nail trims anyway. What? It's a grooming salon. Really? So disappointed that the customer service here has changed so much from when it was Legacy Grooming. If if your dog is getting groomed and you're dropping off and leaving them anyway this review may not be applicable to you, but if you're someone like me who just needs random nail trims, I wanted to make sure you had the information. I am EXTREMELY happy with this place. My dog was discriminated at petco bc he was showing signs of anxiety and my experience to finding a new grooming place hasn't been great. I called everywhere to see if there was availability and this is the ONLY place that took me in last minute. They were understanding of my dogs anxiousness and reactivity towards other dogs. I have three Great Danes and it's hard to find groomers who are willing to take them all at the same time. Legacy pet groomers always takes them In at the same time and usually at last minute too. About 95% off the time I have called I have gotten an appointment the same day that cannot be beat. My Danes are still puppies so they are pretty wild especially when they don't know how big they are and staff is always very friendly and happy to see them! I absolutely love these guys/gals. I use to go to the Plano location and was upset when they moved, so I started going to PetSmart (meh). Moved back to Little Elm and I'm glad I'm close to them again. For me not to be a regular they treat you like a regular Everytime! Even the groomers you haven't interacted with know your name and welcome and thank you Everytime. Now to the actual dog groomer. I haven't been able to complain once! They always do an awesome and NEAT job on my Silky Terrier. They file his nails down short and neat. The hair cuts are even throughout. His breathe even smells better! It's best to make an appointment that way you'll know you'll be in and out within 2-3 hrs. You definitely get what you pay for. I don't leave reviews often but this one is warranted. I have a rare breed dog that requires full grooms for his feathery hair. A couple months ago I took both him and my other dog here for a groom. When I picked them up I was very pleased with the cut. We then skipped a month at Legacy because we went on vacation and my boys were groomed at the boarding facility. Today I went back to Legacy and the moment we walked in my rare breed dog started shaking frantically. This is a three-year-old dog from a show home who started being groomed at 8wks old. He enjoys his grooms, he's a very easy going fella who's never met a person he doesn't like. They took my other dog back, who is just a bath, and I proceeded to discuss with a groomer how I wanted the rare breed trimmed, but noticed he continued to shake and finally laid down as far away from the groomer as he could. Still, I spoke to the groomer while keeping tabs on him. The receptionist came out and slipped their leash over his head and my calm, easy going boy began fighting her like I've never seen before. This is an agility dog, a Canine Good Citizen and is well leash broken and socialized. He choked himself on the leash fighting against going with the receptionist until he started coughing. I reached down to calm him and he stopped but it was obvious he was terrified. When the receptionist tried again to take him back, he began growling. Still, she got him to the back eventually, but I left the groomer's uneasy because my dog has NEVER behaved in such a manor. I circled the parking lot feeling uncomfortable about leaving my dog where he was terrified when he's never disliked a groom before. 5 minutes later I pulled back up and asked for my dogs back. Better safe than sorry. I wasn't concerned he'd bite, but I was concerned that something happened the first time I took him to groom at Legacy that set him into a total panic and fear aggressive state during this trip. They brought him to me and I told them I would be taking my other dog as well. They told me he had already been bathed (within 5 minutes? That's the shortest dog bath I've ever heard of) and would need to dry. I said I'd wait. After another 5 minutes, I decided I'd just take him wet. I told them so and one groomer, a man, began yelling at me, that he'd already had the bat, to be patient I was going to get him back. I looked him dead in the eye and told him not to yell at me and he shut up. The receptionist then informed me I'd only be paying for the one bath. Seriously? They were going to charge me for a 5 minute bath and ten minute dry? Then why does it take up to 3 hours for the dog to usually get done? While I was discussing this with the receptionist and agreeing to pay, the same male groomer who'd been yelling at me earlier started up again. "He already had the bath! Your gonna pay for it!" He then walked behind the receptionist making direct eye contact with me the entire length of the shop. There was no mistaking the threat, but I'm not exactly the shy type so I met him with my own. I paid the receptionist, who made excuses for the man who'd been yelling. When I finally got my dog back, I told her that as someone who's been a bather in a grooming salon, there is no way that my dog got an actual bath in the 5 minutes it took me to circle the parking lot and return. Then I left. Dog's have a long memory. If your dog is exhibiting behavior that worries you when you step into an establishment, take those cues seriously. If it had been a normal reaction for my dog to shake, cower, and growl at the grooming salon, I wouldn't have went back for him, but it was beyond atypical behavior for this very friendly dog who's been groomed monthly since he was 8wks old and looked forward to seeing his previous groomer before she moved away. Never has he freaked like that. So yeah, listen to what your dog is telling you. Mine obviously got a great haircut at his first appointment but something happened to make him terrified and I'll never know what it was. I can only hope that they didn't scar the dog for life with whatever they did. I know a lot of people love this place, but after being yelled at and recieving threatening looks from the staff when I went out of my way to stay quiet so the other customers wouldn't know I was unhappy, charged full price for a half-assed bath and having my dog go into full panic mode...I'll never go back here. Listen to your dog, watch his/her body language. If it's not typical behavior your dog exhibits when at a groomer, turn and leave. read more

Actually, I have been taking my pup to Legacy Pet Grooming for about 3 yrs., now. Never had any complaints. They were great about scheduling appointments. Always did a great job. And my little old man, that has been getting groomed all of his life, seemed to be the same happy pup that I dropped off. Never had a problem. But, yesterday was different. I brought him in to be bathed and groomed...just the normal stuff. When I came in to pick him up and they brought him out to me, I immediately noticed in eyes and body language that something was very wrong. Seriously, he had a look on his face that i had never seen before...fear, confusion, pain...call it what you like, but, it wasn't good, that's for sure. Definitely not himself and not the normal excitement of "yay, your here, let's go." To make a long story short, we get home...about 10 min drive. I don't know what happened while he was there, but he seemed to be in a lot of pain. Noticed when he walked, that his backend was really really red...I thought he was bleeding. Of course, we checked him...and saw the entire area was completely red due to being absolutely raw. Sounds weird, but it was obvious he was in a lot of pain. He was like this all night. Didn't want to be near anyone and yipped before you even got close enough to touch him. Didn't want to eat, either. We were really worried. But, something else that makes me angry is that no one in the shop said anything....he was hurting, it was obvious...and that didn't seem to bother anyone. That bothers me... So, regardless of past grooming experiences....I won't bring him back. read more

We have been taking our goldendoodle to Legacy Pet Grooming for a little over a year. We have tried other places but Legacy tends to do the best with the hard cut of a goldendoodle. That was until today. I called 3 weeks ago and got her scheduled in advance. When I called they told me to drop her off at 8am. I did that today and to my surprise they had not called by 11:30am. I went inside and they had just started on her. This means I dropped my dog off at 8am just to sit in a kennel for almost 4 hours before she was groomed. The cut also was very rushed. Her ears are uneven and face is very choppy. I refuse to pay $100 to have my dog sit in a kennel for 4 hours just because they over booked or are short staffed. We will not be going back again. I suggest everyone proceed with caution if you don't want to go to a groomer that books more than they can handle. read more

I love this place. I have taken my puppy here twice, and she looks so good. She is a havanese, and they are hard to groom. All the employees are so nice. You tell them what time you want to drop off pet, and they always call in 2 hours to tell you she's ready. It gives me enough time to go to Starbucks and relax, then go grocery shopping at Kroger, then she's ready. Perfect timing both times. Prices are reasonable too. You can also see the puppies, they dont take them in the back and hide them in crates. read more
