Came in here for a quick dinner because the hubby wanted something asian and spicy and I wanted to be able to walk from my FIL's house. We had the brown fried rice, curried flat noodles, pork dumplings and this amazing fried chicken-esque dish (Thousand chili Szechuan chicken) that came on a huge bed of chilies. Everything was really good. The fried rice could have used a little more flavor. Service and the ambiance was nondescript. Limited alcohol menu (beer only). Decent prices. Came here for takeout. I ordered through Just eat and when I arrived, my order was ready! The dishes were packed properly. The lady also gladly gave me chili sauce when I asked for it. I got the blade-sheared noodles, garlic eggplant and clear noodle with shredded chicken for the appetizer. They did not skimp on the portions. The dishes were flavorful, albeit on the oily side. I didn't really like the clear noodle as it was too al dente for me. I'd rather them cut the noodles into strips rather than square which is a bit hard to eat. Legend House specializes in Northern and Szechuan Chinese cuisine and is known for its hand-pulled noodles and Xiao Long Bao steamed dumplings... unfortunately the noodles and dumplings were a bit disappointing and just average tasting. Definitely not the best Chinese restaurant in Greater Vancouver, but for the price and quantity, I would eat here again if I was in the area, but I wouldn't make it out of my way to come here for a meal. read more

I used to come here very often but as my work schedule changed, I have not been back for a while. Just looking forwarded to eat again but it was very disappointed. The famous Spicy Fried Chicken (Bones in) does not taste like what it should be;Pepper corns was minimum and the fried chicken was not even fried with the pepper corns. Seem like both were cooked separately. Then the husband and wife cold dish (Pork and Beef) was tasteless. On the good side, the mutton soup and egg plants were still good. Range: $7-$19: | The best mail I've received in a long time came today in the form of a menu for a new Chinese restaurant less than a minute's walk from my place at 140-1169 Pacific Street (near the Target, next to Brown's Social House). It's called Legend House and specializes in northern Chinese and Szechuan cuisine. To me, that means lamb, dumplings, blade-sheared noodles (the north) and spicy chili dishes (Szechuan). As much as I like Lucky Gate on Austin, the Urbanspoon rating for which is way too low, that 10 minute drive is a pain for the princess in me, so I was giddy about there being another choice now. Ah, the sweet taste of free market competition. After scanning the menu and thinking I wanted everything on it, the practical spender in me took over and figured two should do it -- for now. Before I had taken a step in the restaurant, I had decided on the Spicy Clear Noodle Salad ($7) and blade-sheared noodles for my Cumin Lamb Stir-fried Noodles ($12). FYI, if you have a peanut allergy, be sure to let them know or ask. The salad's default form includes peanuts. When you walk in, you are treated to a view of the kitchen where you can see the chefs preparing. After that brief and pleasant first step, the next step is to do what you go there to do: be seated and eat. The dining area feels spacious with its high, exposed ceilings. It has a sophisticated yet casual feel. It's not huge, but not small either probably seating maybe 70 at a time with quite a bit of space for servers (which number 3-4 during dinner time) to still move around and not worry about banging into one another. I loved their chopsticks. It's a small thing but it counts and contributes to the dining experience, for sure. I don't know where they got them, but I'm going to find out. The Dishes The first dish to come was the salad. My impression from the picture in the menu was that they would be chewy noodles, but they weren't. It was more like fragile jelly and you needed to be careful with your chopsticks. Too much pressure and you'd cut the things in two and they'd fall right back into the bowl. I think they might be made with mung bean. Maybe. Spicy Clear Noodle Salad With my first taste, I thought of hot-dogs, oddly, and that's why I liked it, knowing that it was tasty and although not exactly healthy food, probably not as bad for me as hotdogs. I bit into one of the garlic chunks and it felt like water chestnuts but intense. Not sure what they did to that garlic, but it was done well. The sauce was vinegary and a bit spicy. The green onion garnish added an extra layer of flavour and overall it was solid. Next came the noodles, a good sized portion of chewy noodle goodness mixed in with thinly sliced, cumin-seasoned lamb and julienned green and red peppers plus onion. The peppers were cooked well as they weren't soft and when you bit into a strip not only the flavour but the retained moisture inside was released. That's a good sense of timing. Definitely too much food for one person, this would be about 2.5 meals for an average eater who thinks a Whopper combo is enough food. It was about prime-time 630 pm. The place was about 75% full. As I sat, more started coming in and by 7:00 pm or so it was full and a lineup began to form. I thought I would get my fill and give others a chance to enjoy themselves. I asked for take-out boxes and the bill. They had automatically given 10% off as a promo for their grand opening, so I didn't need to tear up the menu I got in my mailbox. When I first walked in, I thought the man at the front who I also thought might be the/an owner didn't know much English because he deferred to a waitress to seat me. At the end of the meal, happy with my experience and wanting to speak with him, I asked the waitress if he knew English and she confirmed he did. I went up to pay my bill and we exchanged pleasantries. He introduced himself as Garry and I arranged for an interview to explore how this all came to be. So often we go to restaurants and all we talk about is the food, but what about the back-story, the people behind it all? It all comes from somewhere. I'm going to find out more about this place. I always order the noodles here, made in-house and I appreciate that. The sweet chicken glaze is also another one of my favourites. The flavour is definitely there in all their dishes. I love my spicy dishes and they have that here! I ordered the xiao long bao's here before, and my only critique is that they were quite dry and not enough of that soupy goodness. Horrible service!! When we asked a question, our server just looked at us and walked away. Maybe she didn't know English or something but that was quite rude. The person who took our order was the same lady. We specifically asked for blade sheared noodles (and said it twice to make sure she understood). She nodded for confirmation so we thought she got it but when the food came out, it was hand dragged noodles instead! We immediately told her it was wrong and she refused to admit her mistake. She insisted that we did not mention we wanted the blade sheared noodles and that what was on our table was correct. She actually refused to do anything about it until one of us raised our voice and told her that it was not our fault that we ended up with the wrong order. She left our table and ran off without even apologizing or having the slightest bit of concern and respect. We stared blankly at each other because we were just so shocked and speechless that she did not take immediate action to fix the problem. We left the noodles untouched because we weren't sure if they were going to replace it. Three minutes later, she came back and took the plate of noodles from our table, still without saying a word. They eventually replaced it with the correct noodles but we left unimpressed with the service and attitude at this restaurant. At least the food was good but the service we experienced today was terrible. I hope the management trains their staff on giving proper customer service. They should learn to always respect and listen to their customers. I am not coming back until they do so. read more

Not sure why everyone is so down on this place. I think the food is 4/5 and I work in China several months of the year. Service is curt and to the point which is Chinese style. Their business is food and getting you in and out and that's pretty standard. Only place for dim sum anywhere around really. read more

Best Chinese food restaurant that I could find in the past 20 years! Food is about 50% more expensive than other Chinese restaurants but you'll see and feel and taste the difference. I think they use good quality products and have a decent chef. Love to be close to them. read more

Came for a late dinner a few days ago and was actually impressed by the food! Surprised to find this type of Chinese food in this area at all and the fact that i enjoyed it is a bonus! The XLB was actually good (though it did not come with ginger), the beef rolls were great and the Legend house fried rice was also delicious! I wish i could have taken photos but my phone was dead. Only thing lacking was service. Our server seemed distracted and uninterested and would walk away from our table before we were done speaking which left us hanging a few times. A very good place for dumplings. The xiao Lao bao is juicy and so are the pan fried ones. Their wontons are different but big and full of meat. We also ordered the beef noodle and that was amazing. It had a good portion of meat and noodles. It was full of flavour and had a great beef taste to it. The flavour was good enough that the noodles absorbed the flavour too. The boneless la zi ji is fantastic; while Coquitlam has a number of actually-pretty-great Szechuan options (New Spring in Burquitlam, 古城小厨/Hu's Kitchen across the street), this place stands out for being fast, very good, and a nice place to be. The la zi ji is made with green hua jiao/Sichuan peppercorns, which gives it a more citrusy flavour than those which use the red variety. The chilies are unremarkable, and there aren't nearly enough of them, but the dish comes out with some warmth and a lot of good numbing and fine flavour. It isn't as flat and one-note as a lot of the other options around Vancouver. And, thankfully, they don't ruin the essential crispiness of the dish and the brightness of the flavours the way that Hu's Kitchen does (Hu's throws a bunch of dark soy sauce on it after it's finished!) The cumin beef appetizer is pricey, but worthwhile. The hunks of wonderful, spicy beef are not entirely unlike what you might expect to get on a skewer at the Richmond Night Market, but it's like 6-7 skewers worth of meat! One of my favourite Chinese establishment with excellent service and top-notch quality of food anyonce can ask for. I had only come here for Dinner a couple of times with the occasional take-out as I live close by and had always found their quality of food very satisfying. Plus, if you do take-out over the phone they give you an extra 10% discount. They have such a wide selection of food and very happy to see that they have Sweet and Sour Chicken as most places only have pork. I do recommend their Legends Fried Rice which you can also request for brown rice instead and their XLB ( Xia long Bao) is very juicy. Very clean and spacious environment. For those cold, wet nights, it's definitely nice to know there's a Shanghainese restaurant in the area for some hot eats. After two visits, I'd still like to come back to try a few more dishes. From what I've tried, the beef roll and the XLBs were great. The beef roll is a bit more "fried", so it's something you will want to eat in person and avoid taking out as it would likely get quite soggy. The XLBs were super hot, and the broth nice and rich. The chicken noodle soup was bland, but otherwise it was big, hot, and filled with food. The prices are comparable to other Shanghainese restaurants I've been to. Given the weather is turning for the better I probably won't be back for a while unless I'm really jonesing for XLBs. But I definitely will be back here to try more of the meat dishes/soups to get a better gauge on the quality of the food. read more

Checked out the website, selected the items we wanted, which totalled $39.85 before taxes. Website states that delivery is free with order of $40. It took 5 minutes to communicate our address and then the order was given. Because it didn't exceed $40 I was told I needed to order another item. Tried to reason with the person but to no avail. Very disappointed and frustrated with the ability of the person on the phone to understand English and they refused to put the manager on the phone. read more

We also for the soup dumplings which were good, not the best I've ever had. The chicken and broccoli wasn't great - not a fan of how the chicken was cooked. The service was fast and friendly. We eat here regularly. It can be really hot food and we have tried numerous dishes. Generous with lots of meat. The kitchen is right at the entrance and with the right timing, you can watch them make their own noodles and dumplings. Theyve got great food here, cheap and huge portions for many of the items. My fave dishes include the soup dumplings. Beef rolls are very good too, although I wish they were served hot. I tried the tumeric flavor noodles and those were pretty bad.. Way too much tumeric that you can almost feel the powder in ur mouth. The soups and many other noodle dishes are good though. Nice fresh ambiance, polite staff for the most part, and they are hard working. Countless things on the menu to try and with their affordability, coming back to try more things sounds good to me. Longer than I would like but sure... 1 hour later I call back to ask about my delivery because my 2 year old was hungry; the lady said 10 more minutes. 1.5 hours after I ordered. Food was no where to be seen. Was told to wait another 15 minutes. Finally told them to cancel; To my disbelief they actually tried to give my wife trouble for doing so. Ridiculous! My bad; we ate everything before I thought to take pictures. If you don't like spicy food, this place might not be for you. That being said, if you can handle a bit of a kick, the food here is good. We ordered six dishes and rice to share, and the crowd favourites were the mappa tofu and the ginger beef. We also enjoyed the black bean noodles that was sweeter than black bean noodles at other places but in an interesting way. If I could give a zero I would! Our favorite Chinese restaurant is closed this week so found this one on google. It has good reviews so thought we'd give it a try. I placed a delivery order at 5:22pm, I should have known it was a bad idea right off the bat when even when I phonetically had to spell my address and they still didn't understand. Then 20 mins later called me back to get my name and postal code?! They said 40 mins for delivery. I'm literally a 5 min drive away. Ok maybe they're busy. An hour and 20 mins later I call, to be asked am I sure I'm calling the right restaurant . Lady put me on hold. Comes back and says she talked to the driver he's 5 mins away. I gave him 10 mins. Still nothing. Got in my car went to McDonalds. Delivery driver calls me as I'm in the drive thru saying he's somewhere on Falcon. I told him it's been over an hour and a half and to cancel my order we went out to eat. Seriously? I'm 5 mins away!!! 5! It's 2018 every delivery driver should have google maps. I love this place! I come here quite often with my BF. The food is always fresh and delicious, also consistent every time we order a dish. Their portions are always big; even just the $7 lunch special (choice of meat dish served on rice, whole grain rice, or noodles) is enough to fill me up. The place is also clean and pleasant, and you can see the kitchen as they work. If it means anything, my BF if from Shanghai so I think it's a good sign that he enjoys the food as well (it's usually his idea to go). The waitresses can be a bit curt when it gets busy, but I don't blame them considering the place gets packed regularly. Legend House is definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant. read more
