The restaurant was not very busy and we were seated right away. I would suggest making a reservation around sunset. Our waitress was great- she was welcoming, answered questions well and we were taken care of in a timely manner. The food was pretty good. Some dishes that were stand-outs would be- Japanese hamachi sashimi and crab pasta. They have some good wines to choose from and the cocktail list had lots of great options. We came into this restaurant at the Westin in Maui pretty late--about an hour before closing--and the place was very quiet. We were seated quickly, which was appreciated after a long day. It did take a little while for our server to initially come over and acknowledge us, but once they did, the service was excellent. They were engaging, helpful, and made us feel very welcome despite the late hour. For food, two of us ordered the chicken and waffles and the other two had the shrimp curry. Both dishes were really good. The chicken and waffles were especially memorable--very good with a unique preparation that made it stand out from the typical version. The shrimp curry was also flavorful and well done. We paired everything with a local beer from Maui Brewing Company, which was a great choice and tasted fantastic. We were here for the weekend! Cane to this restaurant on Sunday. We got a table for 4. Service was okay. We ordered from the buffet but also from the menu. We order a coffee and a pog Mimosa. We were waiting for our food for a while abs our drinks. We had to tell the guy our waiter about the drinks he said he forgot..HEY! THAT'S OKAY. No problem. We got our food before the drinks. I ordered white toast abs a side order of bacon. The toast looked like it wasn't toasted! I was bummed i was looking forward to a nice breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised at our dinner experience here at the Mauna Makai in the Nanea Westin Vacation Resort. The service was amazing and the open air ambience was very nice. We wanted a lighter meal so we ordered the blackened local ahi and the local style island fish which was a grilled swordfish with a citrus soy sauce. Both were cooked perfectly and were delicious! We selected this restaurant since we did not feel like driving or taking the shuttle to Whalers Village and thought to try a restaurant within the Westin Resorts. It was such incredibile value for fresh simple salad / pizza options accompanied by fresh pasta and by an impressive list of handcrafted sauces with included add ons such as roasted chicken, italian sausage, veggies and/or meatballs! We went to Mauka Makai for the prime rib dinner (btw please update the price on your sign down by the lawn near the beach - it's off!). We each got the prime rib dinner, and our 2 kids shared the chicken tenders kids meal. The prime rib dinner was fine - prime rib is quality, and very nicely prepared, though for the price of the dish I kind of expected a larger piece of meat. I personally found the dish to be a bit lacking on the sides - it felt missing of something like a baked potato and a better variety of vegetables. The kids' chicken tenders was great - large enough for them to share. But, for the convenience of coming right down to the restaurant to eat from our room is great, and we got a nice pool front location overlooking the beach and the sunset. Service was a bit slow, but it was busy in there and our waitress was very nice and kind so it didn't bother us at all. So overall, a good experience! read more

It's a gem tucked inside Westin Nanea Ocean Villa. Restaurant has an open front, overlooking the big pool, surrounded by koi fish ponds. It's upscale while casual. We all ordered the scallops risotto ($38). It came with shiitake mushrooms, asparagus, and pea shoots. Theses are the big St Jacques scallops, seared to perfection. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate tarte ($12) and the chocolate Bundt cake with ice cream ($15) . We liked the Bundt cake more because it's so moist. My wife and I had breakfast here, and it was excellent. She ordered the breakfast sandwich, which looked amazing, while I had the farmhouse omelet, cooked to perfection. The service was friendly but a bit slow, so I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a hurry. However, the view is beautiful, and since we had no set plans for the day, we didn't mind the wait. Overall, it was a great experience. The following morning, we waited an hour in line for the Gazebo, but aside from the scenic views, we found it underwhelming. While the portions were generous, the food itself was fairly standard diner fare. Surprisingly, we both enjoyed our breakfast at Nanea more. Having stayed at two other Westin resorts in Kaanapali, we can confidently say that the food and drinks here have been the best so far. read more

We ate here last night for dinner at 6:45. Our table was waiting for us and the location, view and service was excellent. I had the Ahi which was very fresh and cooked rare ax ordered and my wife had the shrimp curry which was awesome. Our granddaughter had the kids pizza and loved it. Their prices were comparable with all the other restaurants in the area and they were walking distance from our Westin down the beach. If you can't get into some of the restaurants in LH until 9:00, this is a good spot to try. read more

Note that this is a review for a New Year's Eve dinner with my family. I booked it last minute for our trip, and I didn't really expect much for a resort restaurant. But hey, it was right next door to where we were staying, and being able to walk "home" after a dinner with drinks is all we really wanted. Food was better than expected, service was friendly, and you'll probably have a nice view of the pool and the sea beyond it. My 12 year old was torn between ordering his usual lemodade or a virgin piña colada, so I suggested the latter, but unfortunately he didn't like it. Last night we arrived and were seated immediately with an excellent server. After a very long time our server said the fresh catch of the day was almost there. She had a great sense of humor because it took forever and she said she just caught it for us. Looked great. When we went to eat it, the fish was raw and it was not supposed to be. They acknowledged it, after my husband had already eaten some. They covered his two beers and now I am just hopeful he doesn't get sick from eating fish that was NOT cooked appropriately. Starting our vacation and had breakfast downstairs. Because of COVID there is no more buffet style or grabbing food sitting out. There is a lot of open seating outside with great views. The guy at the register taking your order is extremely slow entering your order and the line builds up quick. He needs to speed it up or get someone who can use the order system quickly. The hot chocolate is great and creamy. Wife got the omlette which was fine but she got a fruit parfait without the added honey and it was terrible , had to return it oh well. This was a solid dining experience! I wish I could give it and half stars. Not quite a 5 but close. We made our first visit to Mauka Makai for dinner on the evening of Dec. 27, 2024. A party of 7, all family, that included one 10 year old and a 16 year old. We arrived just a few minutes prior to our reservation time and were immediately seated by the host. Soon our server, Oliver was there to introduce himself ask about drink orders and the other preliminary items that are always taken care of at a restaurant. It took some time for all the adults to decide if we wanted a pre-dinner cocktail or wine. If wine what kind? If wine, we needed to decide on our dinners first. Oliver, gave us a few minutes and returned, not too soon, but he was not away on a dinner break either as I have had happen. Overall on service, I give Mauka Makai 5 stars! Now for the reason you write a review, the food! My 10 year old grandson got a cheeseburger and pronounced it good and ate it all. For the remaining six diners we were split with some ordering the Fresh Scallop Risotto, others the Pulehu Ribeye steak or the Seared Local Ahi. I had the Ahi and it was seared perfectly! The seasoning was very tasty and the portion generous. It was served on a tasty bed of soba noodles and a garlic (light) baby bok choy was the vegetable. Both the noodles and bok choy were quite tasty. As usual for us we did a little share/sampling. I thought the scallop risotto was also outstanding and will try it snext time we are there. Those who had the ribeye also raved about how good their steak was. My adult son's plate looked like he had licked it clean, something he did as a little kid! No, he didn't lick it. Food was absolutley five stars! We did not have any appetizers or deserts, though some looked very ono. My one, slightly negative, was the pre-dinner cocktail. I ordered a boubon mule, I forget the exact name, it is not on the online menu. While actually quite good, and not skimping on the bourbon, it wasn't what I tend to expect in a mule. Those who had the Mai Tais were quite happy. Oliver referred to the Mai Tai as a "muscle relaxer" and that was what sold my daughter-in-law. Drinks I would give 4 stars. The ambiance is quite nice, clean and I would say contemporary in design. Lighting was perfect for dining. We have been in places where the light was so low you could barely read the menu and restaurants that made you feel like you were on stage in the spotlight. Not here, well done! It is not ocean view dining, at least after dark. Prices are typical of what you expect in a good sit down restaurant in Maui. It is not super expensive like some establishments. I understand from our server, Oliver, that the dinner time is still fairly new, less than a year at this point. It seems that they have all the kinks of a new restaurant worked out. What a place to eat brunch! After a long day of travel from TX to Kaanapali, Maui, the next day is like nirvana! You're all rested and clean from the previous days dirt. In terms of breakfast buffet, I would opt for the Westin hotel down by black rock. The dinner for 3 was about $200. The quantity was generous, as I was expecting less food for my money. This is my 2nd visit to the island of Maui. This gem is located inside the Westin Nanea Ocean Villas property. If you are staying at the hotel you definitely should try the breakfast buffet and dinners. Amazing food. Parking is validated also. We had the privilege of dining here for breakfast and dinner. I say it's a gem because I feel you get a great value for the quality of the food on the menu. Everything on Maui is pricey. So you should expect pricey meals especially hotel restaurants. But for what you get especially at dinner I was surprised the prices weren't higher. Cause I've paid some higher prices for food and that was during lunch time. I am from Chicago and I can be a harsh critic when it comes to food. But this place won't disappoint you. At breakfast you will find the standard eggs, bacon, potatoes, bagels and smoked salmon, fruit, cereal etc. but what they make is also the sweet bread French toast. That is so good! My breakfast was comp'd because we opted for no cleaning service on 2 days and in exchange for free breakfast. But even if it was not free I would pay the $35-40 charge. That's usually how much breakfast buffets cost at hotels so the price doesn't shock me. If the price throws you off then cook your own breakfast! You're on vacation in Maui and just enjoy being served! For dinner we had the seafood butter pasta and macadamia but crusted mahi. Definitely try the pasta if you Iike spicy. The prawns in the dish was also so tasty you wished there were more prawns in the dish. The prices are very reasonable for the menu at dinner. I absolutely loved this pasta dish and would order it again. But there was a lobster dish I was contemplating ordering but my server highly suggested the pasta bc he loves it. I absolutely love my Sundays off. What made it even better was an impromptu text I got asking if I wanted to do brunch with part of my gang. Oh yes, please! ATMOSPHERE: Located within the Westin Nanea Ocean Villas, the open-air space is the hotel's sole restaurant. Every table has a view of either the hotel grounds, pool or ocean. Live music serenaded us throughout our brunch. The vibe was relaxing, cool and laid back. BRUNCH: Sundays 10a - 2p. I believe there are two price points; brunch and brunch with bottomless mimosas. We of course went with the latter which cost around $49/person. To start off, mimosas were available in four flavors - orange, pineapple, guava and passion-orange-guava (POG). My friend and I had infinite amounts of the guava version which had the perfect sparkling wine to juice ratio and got us very relaxed. For the buffet, I started off with king crab legs as I wanted to get down and dirty before having breakfast selections. The crab legs were chilled and tasted fresh. They're not pre-cracked so you have some work to do! Cocktail sauce was available but I ate them plain as they had a perfect amount of salt flavor. I had a couple pieces of tako pokē as well, which were surprisingly good with a firm texture and nice amount of seasoning. The scrambled eggs were the only disappointment as they were gritty, possibly due to being actual Egg Beaters or mixed with it. The broiled salmon with Hamakua mushrooms was really moist and tasty, covered in a fresh garlic/oyster sauce mixture. Sides of Portuguese sausage, bacon and fingerling potatoes were good. Other selections available that I didn't have were locally-grown and organic salads and cheeses, prime rib, breads, fruits and desserts. TIP: Unfortunately there was no omelette station and the only reason why this review isn't five stars. SERVICE: Hostess greeting was immediate, professional and friendly. Servers Matt and Luckie took excellent care of us. Our mimosas were constantly refilled and we were checked on throughout our experience.
