I'm hard to please, so I gave this place three chances. The food is acceptable, which in New York, really means sub-par. There are delis every other block - if you can't stand out, it's not good. The main issue is terrible service. I don't blame them for consistently running out of every flavor of bagel except plain and cinnamon raisin.. Oh, wait, I do! Given the neighborhood, you might want to keep an eye on the patterns of stock you need. That's a mistake, not a sin. But not telling me and just substituting the flavor of bagel you think I should want is unacceptable. Moreover, when I actually go in to the shop because you've screwed the pooch on my last three delivery orders, you should be able to ring up a simple sandwich order without having to call the manager from the back to keep you from overcharging me by 50%. I wouldn't trust these people to make dog biscuits. Order your sandwiches from one of the local diners - this place is beyond ridiculous! read more

I have tried this place twice now and each time it took forever to get a sandwich. The little buzzers (like you get at a suburban Olive Garden) didn't tip me off the first time, but now I understand why they use them even when there are 3 or 4 people in there ordering a sandwich. Day and Day out the best sandwich place in the city. The Lenny's number one is a meat lovers dream. Just make sure you can eat coleslaw. I usually hate coleslaw but it works here. Ay, where to start?! I stumbled across the place out of pure luck but oh-so glad that I did. It's always a good thing when there is a constant flow of traffic entering and exiting the premises. Long lines but you can definitely tell they have a system down pact..and one that works. The selection here is like no other! They literally have everything from breakfast (served only until 11am), muffins, pastries, deserts, sandwiches, wraps, and sandwiches! My seal of approval came the minute I saw the Greek yogurt fully stocked in the drink section. GREEK YOGURT, which is hard to find at even the Publix's in Miami were conveniently located in a deli. Wow, that's awesome. Not only is this a healthy food joint but it's yummy as hell. Be careful though, even though it seems relatively cheap, they get you on the extras. Especially the salads. There's a group of people at work who have breakfast delivered several days a week. There's another group that has lunch from Lenny's delivered several days a week. But until today all of my knowledge of Lenny's was second hand. Today for lunch I had a Mandarin salad which comes with a bottle of cold water (a nice touch on a 90* day!). I went to the store which is nicely laid out with lines to order, lines to pay and a separate dining area. I had mine to take back to the office. The cashier included a fork and napkin and was quite friendly. The salad itself, while a bit pricey (what isn't on the UWS - I know...Trader Joes!) was loaded with Mandarin oranges, almond slivers, grilled chicken (which I had chopped with the other ingredients) and beans and peas) was delicious (get the dressing on the side anytime you take a salad to go!). Lenny's is a place I come to when pizza isn't quite cutting it for a quick lunch. The sandwiches, while good, are not great and come at a bit of a high price tag for what they are. Yes, they will make you whatever you'd like, but the best idea is to try one of their signature hot sandwiches. The H1 is my personal favorite. Basically, its like Thanksgiving between two pieces of bread. The setup of the restaurant is a bit odd in the way you order/pickup your food. You can call ahead to avoid the sometimes excessive wait, but be warned, this is not always true. I've waited more than 10 min in the past, even when I've called ahead. Would I bring a tourist here for a NY deli experience? Absolutely not. Its on par with something you'd find in Times Sq. Would I come here for a cheap(ish) lunch? Sure. read more

This is a good place for a quick bite to eat. They offer numerous sandwich and salad options. We ducked in here on a Saturday afternoon to grab food for an impromptu picnic for the park - and it hit the spot! The roast beef sandwich was a little dry and tasteless for my tastes. Combined with the fact that we had it on a hard ciabatta bun, it was frankly quite difficult and uncomfortable to eat. However, the #1 sandwich (corn beef) was really soft and tender and downright delicious. So the lesson is that you're bound to find at least one sandwich in there that you'll like. The food portions are great too :) They have all kinds of sandwiches and serves fast. Only thing Is that it is kind of expensive ($9-10 for a hero), but it is Manhattan after all. Pretty disappointed with my breakfast platter. It looked like a boxed meal from McDonald's and I was expecting something much nicer. Even though I was eating there at the restaurant, they stuffed my food in a plastic to-go box. I ate most of it because I was starving, but I won't be coming again. Oh and the breakfast potatoes were really bad! Not crispy at all- I make better ones at home. The scrambled eggs looked rubbery and fake as well. JUST TOOK HALF HOUR TO GET A FREAKING EGG SANDWICH. Terrible, terrible service. Apparently the cashier didn't know how process my levelup payment and when my sandwich was ready, instead of buzzing me they just let my sandwich sit in the bag and let me sit there. My husband had passed this place up many times, complaining that it was an "Einstein's"-type place, not a "real" sandwich shop. However, upon a recommendation, I gave it a go with some girlfriends. We got sandwiches to go and picniced in Central Park. All of our sandwiches were delicious and cheap. After some goading, I got my husband to get sandwiches here to picnic in the park. He was so happily suprised to find it was a "real" sandwich shop and now is a huge fan. He's not into bagel sandwiches (although I am and they get H&H Bagels) and loved that he could get hero rolls or other bread selections. They offer nice pre-made side salads too. This was a surprise find after visiting the Hayden Planetarium. Even at 2 in the afternoon and the place was busy! We got the Grilled Roast Beef (G3 with Whole Wheat bread), it was awesome. The sandwich had melted american cheese, grilled onion, lettuce, tomato, pickles and A-1 Sauce! They also had lots of other sandwich choices and also homestyle food, which we didn't see at first. When I'm on the Upper West and need a tasty sandwich or omelette that's very reasonably priced, Lenny's my boy! Their food is fresh and terrific and they're quick as a whip with getting it all ready. (If there were an Olympics for fast food...GOLD! Hands down!) They have lots of healthy, vegetarian and diet options too like low fat swiss, cheddar and cream cheese, alfalfa sprouts and great bread---their whole wheat is fantastic and they have pumpernickel, marble rye, roll, bagel, panini, wrap, etc. (And I always bring Dennis back a vanilla yogurt parfait - it's a good ratio of oats/granola, fruit and yogurt and makes for a light breakfast, a snack or even a dessert.) If you're getting things for various people, not to worry---each item is labeled and identified to a "t."---no need to poke through sandwiches and make a mess. And these beauties come so neatly wrapped it's unreal! The staff is always very helpful and friendly and they do very speedy deliveries too. All in all, a great solid deli! read more

I have been eating here for years, always with good results. Today I ordered my usual salad and while I was eating it, a huge cockroach crawled out of it and onto my kitchen table. I screamed and went to throw away the rest of the salad, when I saw another cockroach (this one dead) in my salad. It was vile. I have been a fan of lenwich since they first opened in the upper west side (that's like 20 years ago). Options are always great but the prices now are redicoulous. I now only go maybe once a month rather than the 1-2x a week I did. With those prices you would think they were cooking their chicken themselves and not buying it frozen. I'm sure the prices reflect rent and cover the variety of selection but they will probably have to start thinking differently about this model otherwise there may be more and more people like me. I can get a full meal cooked at a restaurant for just $2-3more and feel better about what I eat. read more

My husband and I honeymooned in NYC this past October. We were on a budget and wanted a good breakfast for our dollar. My guy is one of the most discerning persons I know for food quality/taste and cleanliness...we found Lenny's on YELP and decided to give it a try, even though it was a hike from our hotel. We were so happy with our breakfast platter, that we came each morning for a chance to sit outside and enjoy the start to our day. The food was tasty and the selection of neighborhood dogs to watch was great! We even had the opportunity to have nice conversations with local residents...dispelling the myth of unfriendly New Yorkers...We also visited the Village location for a lunch one day...once again, we were pleased. I've never been to Lenny's so I can't speak for the place itself however it is an excellent place to order a deli sandwich from. It has impeccable service, when the food arrives it is marked so there's no confusion about who got what and what is what. Salad was fresh. However, I didn't get the Greek salad after being informed that they didn't have Greek dressing. Thought that was kind of odd. Also had some tuna, which was pretty good - not too much mayo, didn't smell fishy. read more

Stopped by recently for bagels with a couple of friends. I had the standard everything bagel with whitefish salad. The bagel itself was fresh and tasty, as was the salad. The price was also in the standard range. While not the best bagel place in NYC, definitely a nice neighborhood joint if living in the upper west. It also has some small tables if needed. read more

Horrible. I ordered a salad, after 15 minutes of waiting I went to the counter and asked where it was and they had not started making it. On top of it all, the workers behind the counter were rude and not at all sorry for the fact I waited so long. Anyone who's planning on opening a deli should make a trip to their nearest Lenny's (there are a bunch of them now) to see what these guys do and why they're so successful. Unlike so many other New York delis, Lenny's doesn't just pre-make a whole bunch of sandwiches/wraps and have them sit under the counter for hours. Everything is made to order and they use excellent ingredients. Lenny's puts a big emphasis on prepping those ingredients in a way that allows the line cooks to able to make great sandwiches quickly with consistent quality. Another thing Lenny's does that separates them from the majority of NYC delis is create a large menu of different kinds of sandwiches rather than cranking out the same old boring staples. I haven't had one I didn't like. The spicy grilled chicken is ridiculous and the G2 (grilled roast beef, melted american cheese, grilled onions, green leaf lettuce, coleslaw, hot peppers and tabasco) is among the best sandwiches in the world. Took 30min to get a bagel with cream cheese and chicken cutlet with mozzarella cheese on a roll. Bread was tough, 7.50 by the way for the chicken cutlet sandwich that tastes like a sandwich from a regular Queens deli. This was the 2nd time getting lunch here for me, and both times didn't disappoint. Although it was rainy out and during the heart of everyone's lunch hour, the service was quick and the food was great. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich on a hero. It came with lettuce and blue cheese. All the chicken cutlet sandwiches here are sure to be good if they're made like mine was.
