Leon has gone Vegan crazy and I love I it! We tried the Love Burger and the Avocado and Chipotle Burger. Both are meaty soy burgers and were delicious. Even better than the burgers were the Jackfruit and Cheez Dippers which were just amazing. Like the best croquettes I've ever tried! You can have Vegan aioli with them too. Leon's signature Baked Waffle Fries are also Vegan and were great. It's normally the dessert menu where most establishments that are new to Veganism struggle but not Leon! They have a large choice of Vegan doughnuts and cakes plus a range of smoothies for the health conscious. Well done Leon! read more

SInce starting a job on the Strand in September, eating in Leon has become one of my favourite things about being alive. Let me count the ways: One - I love the fact that the food is wholesome and so very very tasty. I feel clean, pure, topped up with vitamins and FULL when I leave here. That 'slaw would keep anyone reg'lar. Two - I love whoever does their design work. Gorgeous retro stickers on takeaway items ('line caught fish', 'freedom food chicken' etc) and lovely menu covers. I lust after their spin-off hardback cookbook, sucker that I am. It's got super thick matt pages, lots of the aforementioned design and it smells goooood and inky. Three - Bring your own booze. Four - Mackerel Superfood Salad Five - Stacks of disposable cutlery conveniently placed near the door. If, I don't know, you...say, had a homemade pasta salad for lunch and needed a fork, but got down the road and realised you didn't have one...I *reckon* you could easily steal one from here, plus a few more to take back to your office for other times when you forget cutlery. In conclusion: A lovely selection of genuinely healthy fast food, with proper fastfood service and signs/counter. Given that very specific brief, definitely as good as it gets! I've developed a pricey habit of going in for breakfast for a fab Blueberry boost (yoghurt, honey, blueberry and granola) and their drinks are very refreshing (try the lemonade). I recently went here after a film with friends as it's something for everyone. The staff were very friendly and I was a bit shocked to find out the "Ve" symbol* means vegan! Now, there aren't many vegan options (the menu itself isn't large), but they are there and that's great! (I'm sure they could easily make a few vegetarian items vegan). I had the Moroccan Curry with brown rice and slaw and it was surprisingly nice! (Can you tell I'm weary on chain restaurants?) I also had a couple of waffle chips which were really good too. I've decided that Leon is my favorite 'fast food' establishment in London. Why? Well, you know how everything at Pret tastes like ... Pret? Or how, when you walk past a Subway, you get a whiff of that unmistakable Subway smell? None of this happens at Leon. Nothing tastes the same; it's constantly evolving, changing, different. The ingredients are fresh and it tastes like healthy, clean eating (though there are naughty options too, when you feel up to it!). Leon tastes intelligent. And maybe it's the prosecco I've had tonight, but the menu isn't contrived and a lot of thought has been put into the flavors and the product. Their lemonade is the closest to the beloved lemonade of my home country, the US. Plus, as a on-off lactose intolerant individual, I'm a big fan of their non-milk milkshakes. It's not often that you go out for Fast food and find something that's not only tasty but also healthy, well balanced and reasonably priced. Leon seems to tick every box with a vengeance! The menu is very varied with a meditteranean twist so even fussy eaters and those with dietary issues are likely to find something to suit. The menu is also very appealing with items such as wraps, salads and hot foods available as well as the soup du jour and the odd special here and there. My last visit had a chicken laksa soup and Morrocan meatballs meal as the orders and spectacularly good they were too. The meatballs were beautifully cooked in a delicious sauce and a generous helping piled on top of brown rice with a fantastic coleslaw side. In its cardboard tray it didn't seem much but eating it soon proved that it was more substantial than it looked. The chicken laksa soup was an experiment as my partner loves hot (as in spicy) soup and was concerned that the laksa would likely be tamed down for Brit tastes. To her delight it wasn't. Rich, spicy, creamy ... everything a laksa should be and very tasty too. Barely room for dessert but the mini-knickerbocker glory with natural yoghurt, fresh fruit and compote went down a treat and I don't think my partner could have been separated from her chocolate tart. The Strand venue is spacious and the music non-intrusive, the decor bright and retro while still feeling warm and inviting. Fan-bloody-tastic! I feel a little bit hurt that no-one had let on about Leon at dinner time... you don't love me anymore do you. Admit it. But I discovered it all on my own, and so glad I did. Come the evening, gone are the takeway box meals and queues, but replaced with tapas style sit down eating, with food served to your table. And BYO too? Huzzzzzzzah! You can imagine the quick dash in all directions for the nearest offie when we found that one out! As mentioned before; it's seriously good food here... it feels that much more wholesome and healthier, but I do suspect I'm being tricked somewhat. Especially if you eat as much as we did last night! Chain Review: Star 1 - Was the service good? I must have gone on an off day, but it appeared as though Leon was pretty grossly understaffed. As a result, I ended up waiting roughly 20 minutes for my Moroccan Meatball Box. However, I was very promptly compensated with a free appetizer, which was nice. Besides that, service appeared prompt, and it's nice to see that you can watch the chefs make your meal. Star Granted. Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost? Compared to your run of the mill fast food joint, Leon is expensive (10 GBP+ for a medium portioned meal), however, as is often the case, you get what you pay for. I often describe Leon to friends as what a Whole Foods Markets take-away joint would look like. The portions are a bit small, but the quality of the food brings in the star. Stars 3/4 - Did the food taste good? I was thoroughly impressed with the taste of my Moroccan Meatball box, and it was nice to see that the menu appears to rotate frequently, however, while the meatballs were great, the box was filled with what appeared to be pretty common fillers. Disregarding the pulses and basic beans, I pretty much paid 10 pounds for some quality meatballs. One star granted. Star 5 - Would you eat it every day if you could? I'm a huge fan of the growing healthy fast-food movement, and it's places like Leon that are really pioneering the shift in consumer perspectives. It is quite expensive for what it is, however, it's great as a once a month treat & I will definitely be returning. I like Leon, a chain of "fast food" places that now has outposts even at King's Cross and Heathrow me-thinks. I don't often go for full meals because I feel that the portions are pretty small. Ha. That made me sound like I EAT ALL THE THINGS ALL THE TIME. But, well, maybe let's not dwell on that. Instead, let's just say some of the great things: - I LOVE Leon's milkless "shakes". Made with almond milk and sweetened with dates, they're small but a nice treat. Chocolate is particularly "dessert"-y, but my favourite is the one blended with banana and tons of cinnamon - the "egg pots" are a brilliant idea, on top of being delicious. A perfectly poached egg is served up in, well, a pot with options like stewed beans and truffled cheese. A perfectly poached egg is a beautiful thing - the people who work there are SO friendly, but not annoyingly so. Food is fast (I know, I know, it's *fast* food, but it actually _is_ here) and I like the chain's design aesthetic - I like that food options are marked not just with the standard v-for-veggie, but also you can see which items are gluten free, or have a low glycemic index - kale cesar. Heck to the yes; get on that, gang Atop the cost-for-quantity point, I'll also agree with another reviewer who said that food isn't always piping hot. I don't get the sense that it's pre-made (maybe it is?) but these points cost Leon the extra star. Yelp note: maybe I'm being nuts, but the savings for takeaway vs. eat in seemed considerable here. I generally love Leon, and what I wouldn't do to have one up in Newcastle! My husband and I shared the Moroccan Meatballs Hot Box and the Chargrilled Chicken Hot Box with chili sauce. The Meatballs are a classic, something we've ordered time and again and really enjoyed. The chicken hot box had less going for it - nothing wrong with it, just a bit on the plain side, but very healthy and fresh with rice and slaw. I'd probably skip that in future in favor of the meatballs and curried dishes, as I think Leon do such a good job with those. Their hummus is rather nice, and the crushed pea salad with its lovely minty flavor makes eating your veggies more enjoyable. Wish the fries were a bit crispier and hotter, but they're probably baked, not fried. You get a good portion of healthy food for your money, and it's ready nice and quick! I do feel very blessed to work in an area where I'm so spoiled for lunch options and I feel I don't go to Leon's enough. So many places offer healthy and tasty options but something about Leon's lures me in there when I want something that'll warm me up. I love the variety of wraps and salads. When I want a slightly bigger meal I'll go for the boxes. For someone like me with food ADD, I do appreciate how they change around their menu all year round. I think the hummous is just a okay. I don't go to Leon as regularly as I do other fast food establishments, because it is slightly out of my price range for fast food - however I'm always happy when I pop in. It's clear even though it describes itself as fast food it's food is fresh and freshly prepared. The thing I love about Leon is all it's little touches. While the food is uncomplicated but really yummy, the layout of the restaurant and all it's little touches are just adorable. I sometimes feel that you're really paying for the branded cups and napkins rather than the food, but it's so bright and colorful it's hard to complain. It's also great for us Veggies. It goes beyond a mushroom in a bun and offers good old Hallomi burgers with lovely touches such as a well toasted bun and amazing burger sauce. These little touches do make a difference. Three ladies in search of dessert are stupidly hard to please in London. All we needed was something sweet. Where were the all-night ice cream parlours? Pining for NY's Coldstone Creamery, I traipsed round a few streets and racked my brains for somewhere sweet and swish, to no avail. I love Leon for its Power Smoothies and Superfood salads in the daytime, but I thought it might be worth a shot at 9pm and glimpsing the menu, my trio, desparately seeking pudding, thought we had hit upon a gem. The evening menu looks simply sumptuous and so we ordered three pecan pies. Hurrah! Sticky nutty delight or so we thought. Nope, all gone. Home-made lemonade? Sold out. Hot chocolate? No such luck. We begrudgingly settled on coffees and chocolate milkshakes, and these were served and enjoyed great quality, very tasty, if a little pricey [almost £5 for a shake]. We came to pay so we could make a hasty sashay off to Charing Cross and our trains but this proved to be the most trying process of all. The young lady who served us was slow, rather rude and incapable of simple arithmetic. She was reluctant to let us pay the bill in two parts, refused cash, left us halfway through the transaction and had to ask repeatedly the sum we wished to pay! This little episode won't put me off Leon for good but it might make me think twice about visiting in the evening. Three stars because the decor is divine and the food fabulous, but the service was nothing short of very poor on this occasion. read more

Leon is a fantastic restaurant. It's the answer to all my prayers: a fast food restaurant that won't actually give you a heart attack. Meals are super-cheap and come with plentiful salads and yoghurt. The chilli with rice and Moroccan meatballs with yoghurt are an especially tasty treat. There's also a nice selection of deserts and chocolate for afters. As it's fast food, it's also super-quick, so is ideal if you're heading off to the theatre and are in need of speed. It's also nice to see a healthy restaurant which features some meat and isn't entirely veggie based. The only thing about this one is why they insist on giving you table service when you're eating in at the other Leons you just take it from the counter and it's even quicker. read more

I ate in at Leon with a friend, and after a rocky start (staff weren't great at explaining how ordering/paying works) the food was wonderful. I had the hummus & flatbread, which was delicous, and a really good sized portion. I also had their sweet potato falafel which were lovely, and I'm now trying to find a recipe to make them at home. The only let down was the fish finger wrap. I found a huge bone in it, which meant I had to spit out my mouthful as subtley as possible. My friend remarked 'It tastes just like the McDonalds fillet of fish'. Having not tried the McDonalds version, I couldn't comment, but the fish was very dry and chewy. In all, I will definately go back to grab a quick bite. It's well priced, and you can walk out feeling healthy and environmentally friendly. No other fast food place can give you that! read more

Went to this branch of Leon this weekend as we tried to go for a meal/drinks at Gordon's but it was insanely busy, so headed here instead. We ordered the one of the set menus for 23 quid and some wine to go with the meal. I liked the informal nature of the place; the food was good the service was friendly. The Halloumi pots were delicious but the flat bread arrived slightly cold. Other recommendations would definitely be to try the fresh slaw, Chicken & Chorizo Club & the sweet potato fallafal. This is a good place to go, if you fancy a meal that isn't too fussy and formal but also has some kind of substance/atmosphere to it. I would go back again for sure, more of a nice stopping place for food rather than a destination. read more

I ordered the fish & chips expecting some fried greasy mess. Instead, I received deliciously seasoned waffle fries, a delicate filet of salmon, quinoa mixed with tarter sauce, and a bed of mesclun greens.
