This whole public transportation venture is terribly inconvenient and annoying me, it really is. So I got on the Long Island Railroad at Jamaica station to meet a friend. I see my friends mostly at wakes now and my ride fell down on me, so here in Jamaica i stand. For all who've not been, it is about the dirtiest, most germy place per square foot in NYCs transportation world. Its the kind of place I hope you'll never ever see in your life. Everybody's bumping into you and yelling about track changes, looking like a bunch of morons who think they're going somewhere important. ​Anyway, I ended up getting off at Massepequa and going to Leonardo's Pizza hoping they had a beer but they didn't, figures. ​First, I had the Italian Wedding Soup. It arrived looking like a drowned swamp with all those stringy, pale noodles swirling around in the broth like a bunch of white wigglers, similarto what i had for first lunchies. They were just sitting there next to these limp green leaves and the carrots were just floating in it. It's like the soup is trying to convince you it's healthy, but the whole thing just looks depressing. You take a bite, and it tastes, well, it tastes rather good, but the name is what really gets me. "Italian Wedding Soup." That's a odd name if I ever heard one. What does soup have to do with getting married? It just makes you think of a bunch of grandmothers crying and guys in rented tuxedos talking about their golf handicaps and portfolios. Plus I'm never getting married again, never ever - i learned my lesson. ​Then came the Detroit Slice. It sat there on a paper plate next to my copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was the only thing in my whole damn life that's keeping me company. Look at the edge of that crust--it's burnt to a crisp. Black as night, dark as spadesbut maybetgats how they do it on Long Island. The sauce is piled right down the middle like a thick red streak, covered in all these little dried oregano herbs I applied. I sat there eating this cheesy crusted square, staring at Mark Twain on the cover, and I swear it made me feel sad. Not because the book is terrible, it reminded me of my childhood, another complete disaster. The pizza actually had that crispy, cheesy edge going for it, I'll give them that, but because it felt lonely eating alone in public,vi never do that. This is mostly a takeout place but some tables and we decided to dine in. We got salads and my daughter got buffalo which were very spicy. I got penne with broccoli rabe, grilled chicken & beans. It was delicious and very flavorful. My so. got fettuccine bolognese and he enjoyed that. We got a margarita pizza and they guys said it was pretty good. The service was so friendly and attentive. Ordered through slice. Pizza slices were not hot at all. Garlic knots were burnt and also lacked any flavor. Added meatballs and sausage to a slice but they didn't add extra cheese to hold it down so it fell off once you lifted the slice. All sicilian slices had burnt crusts as well. Don't order here if you want a decent experience. They'll also accuse you of lying when you aren't happy with your order. read more

This was one of those places that caught me off guard by how good it was. We were in the area and stopped in for a couple of slices. We were immediately greeted by Dominick, who I think was the owner. He offered up some great suggestions and made small talk while we waited for our slice. The interior has plenty of seating and was actually very clean considering it was the end of a long night. We were told that earlier in the evening their shop, as well as 300 other mom and pop pizza places, held a joint fundraiser for a family that had lost their kids in a terrible car crash. I was blown away by the heart this place had. The service at this pizza place might have actually been better than their pizza, which was also pretty amazing. Out of all the pizza we ate during our two weeks in NYC, I'm pretty sure this was the best pizza we had. The hot honey pepperoni was amazing, but so was the sweet chicken. I'm so glad we stopped in and I hope to go stop in again! read more

Plain slice is definitely cheesy, chewy, oily delicious. The Caesar salad slice was a hit with my two girlfriends. The service was quick and the location was convenient especially after an hour and half at the bridal salon across the street. The 5 stars truly comes from the lady who works the front. So i heard good things about a potato truffle slice & i had to give it a try. Very small inside, tight even but what ever its only about the food right??? So i love truffle & thats why i went so thats what i order along with a regular slice & Sicilian just to taste as i never been here. Regular & Sicilian were ok, the sauce wasnt my thing but hey everyone has different likes. I liked the truffle slice but was hoping it had more flavor. It has gotten better as they must have been ironing out some kinks. The staff is friendly, and I have been eating there a bit more often recently. The food is variable: some stuff is freshly made, some seems cooked from frozen, or reheated. And sometimes the thickness on the pizza will change from one week to the next (it used to be so nice and thin), as well as the quality. TLDR: Its good, has gotten better from the time they opened, but the quality is not always consistent. read more
