With a beach day and a hike ahead, my friend suggested we grab lunch beforehand. She found Leo's Tacos through a quick search. We chose it based on the location and popularity. We arrived on a weekend afternoon. I didn't realize this spot was from LA and how popular it was! The taco truck is bright orange and easy to find. Lines can get long, but they go by relatively fast. Service wasn't the friendliest, interaction-wise, but the good came out in a reasonable time, considering the line and it being made to order. There are a couple of standing tables, which we ate at with our dogs. Most folks took their food to go. So I didn't realize they were known for their Al Pastor, which I ended up getting. I got one Al Pastor and one Carnitas Taco. The meat is marinated and off a spit. It had a nice flavor, and I'd get both again. When you receive your tacos, they ask if you want toppings and salsa. It's nice in the sense that you can build it to your liking. All the salsas are good; my friend and I enjoyed the avocado one the best. Along with tacos, they have other food and drink items. I got the delicious Horchata. The only thing is prices weren't actively posted, so keep that in mind. I'm not too familiar with the Mexican food truck scene in the city. I've been a super fan of Leo's tacos since my LA days, and when Leo brought one of his food trucks up to the Bay Area, it was inevitable that I would try out the tacos! The Leo's taco truck literally is located in San Francisco/Ocean Beach with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Leo's taco trucks are known in Southern California as THE taco truck for reasonably priced street tacos, that are beyond delicious. The experience at the San Francisco/Ocean Beach taco truck was great. For the most part it mirrors the LA experience, which is exactly what I wanted. It's like having a piece of home. Menu prices are nonexistent so there's no way to determine exactly what you're going to be charged. I ordered two Al pastor tacos, and was charged seven dollars which included tax. I really like that they always include a piece of pineapple with the Al Pastor. The tacos were absolutely yummy. The meat was flavorful, but definitely not as juicy as the LA version. Plus, they don't seem to be as generous with meat at this location as they are in LA. The talk of themselves are not the traditional small street tacos, and yet they're smaller than the traditional sized tacos. They do provide bagged condiments that include sauces and radish. Waited in total about 35-40mins for both ordering and getting my tacos. They're known for their al pastor so got two al pastor tacos ($3 each) and one lengua taco ($4 each). While walking to the ocean beach, I noticed a food truck with a long line of people, so after seeing the great reviews, I decided to give it a try. You need to place your order at the passenger-side window of the truck. If no one is there, just stay in line, as someone will come by to take orders. After ordering, wait until they call your order number. When picking up the food, they ask which sauces you want. Since it was my first visit, I chose all four, one of each. I loveee Leo's. I heard about this place from a friend and went here on a Friday night. It's a food truck in a motel 6 parking lot. The service is pretty standard, you order and then you wait for your food. The al pastor is seasoned well, crispy, and they give a good portion. Also got the alambre hawaiano which I had never heard of, but it was essentially a pile of meat, peppers, pineapple, onion, and ham. The carne asada was tasty but not as flavorful as the al pastor. I'll probably go with all al pastor items next time. This is now my favorite spot for al pastor in the city. Since this is a food truck, all orders are put into to-go boxes and bagged. You also get tons of different salsas, onions and cilantro, radishes, and lime in your to-go bag. The only downside about this place is the location. Not only is this located so far out in the Outer Sunset, but there's also not really any place to sit down and eat. Leo's Tacos has some of the best al pastor I've had in the Bay Area. The meat is incredibly flavorful, and the addition of pineapple balances everything perfectly with just the right amount of sweetness & acidity. Their pineapple agua fresca is also fantastic. It's refreshing, well balanced, and pairs perfectly with the tacos. The staff is also very friendly, which makes the overall experience even better. One thing to note though is that when they just open and it's really busy, they'll sometimes cook the al pastor on the grill instead of cutting from the trompo (the traditional spinning vertical spit). Personally, I don't love that since the trompo is part of what gives al pastor its signature texture and flavor. The only reason I'm taking off one star is because they've been late opening the last three times I've gone. A short delay like 10 to 15 minutes is understandable since traffic and setup happen, but waiting nearly 50 minutes like today (3/8) is tough if you're trying to be mindful of your time. Flakier than dandruff. The "best" tacos in LA is now in Frisco?!   In 2010, four brothers started Leo's Tacos (truck) in LA and has grown to 12 locations across the city of angels. Their SF location is their 13th taco truck, located at Motel 6 (don't park at their lot, an employee will come out and tell you to move your car).   LA's most popular taco truck *finally* officially opened in the city yesterday....   They're brand new and things/emergencies happen but they seem very flaky and aren't respectful of customers' time and gas. Another customer told me, she's tried coming 4 times and they weren't there. They seem to arrive and leave when they want to which is fine but at least post on IG so customers aren't left in the dark. Since I had the afternoon off on 4/11 and nothing better to do, we trekked 30 minutes across the city (FYI, Great Highway is closed to cars now so expect traffic). Yay for Leo's Tacos arriving BUT they were over 2 hours late with no heads. And, we had to wait an additional 40 minutes for them to actually open. No outdoor tables for seating. M E N U Specialty: Al Pastor, marinated pork prepared on el trompo (vertical spit). Other proteins: asada, pollo, buche (pig intestine), suadero (like brisket), cabeza (beef head), lengua (beef tongue), carnitas, and tripas (beef intestines). The Fabled, The Legendary Leooooooooooooooo's has entered the ring as a top contestador. Arriving from an exotic land full of sun - LA, they have established a solid foothold in the sandy, wind-shredded dunes of the West Side of SF. Sundry visitors converge upon this bright beacon of hope and food as all roads lead to Leo's, well, especially closer to 11 pm when nothing else is open. Then through the chattering teeth from the bitter cold that penetrates the bones and the howling winds tearing through the nearby stands of trees, the lady at the front welcomes me with a bright smile and "hi!" :-) That truck seems cozy as the wolves encircle this truck in search of food. I order a feast fit for heroes who have traversed the treacherous wastelands dotted with construction work, unmarked mounds, ancient potholes, and speed traps, or just sand dunes, for the holy grail of tacos. Your bus or rideshare chauffeur deserves a toast or tip. Indeed, the feast did not disappoint. The al pastor was epic and tender. The burrito was good, and the tacos were excellent for a meal near midnight. They were still super busy at closing time 11 pm and seemed fine with it - whew! Of the other meats, I prefer the carne asada over the suadero. Hmm, it would be nice to have the prices shown on the side of the truck too, but I was able to see it on the order screen. Other than that, the tacos did look exactly as pictured by other customers - a bit smaller than some LA or SD tacos I remember. But overall, it did have the nostalgic taste and feel that was so good for a late night snack in the heart of LA. Had to checkout this LA taco truck near the Great Highway! It's right by the motel 6 in a parking lot. There's no seating but the great highway park and Ocean Beach is right there. The menu doesn't have prices but it's very affordable and they accept card/tap payments. They're known for their al pastor so I got some tacos and a torta. The tacos were only $3 each! They have 4 different salsas and give you limes and onions/cilantro in a baggy. The tacos were great, especially for the value. The torta was okay but I wouldn't get it again. Came back about a month later for my second visit. Coincidentally, it ended up being on another Thursday. I arrived around 2PM, and there was just one person ahead of me in line. I decided to stick with the Al Pastor burrito since I really liked it the first time and didn't want to risk being disappointed while hungry. Sadly, even with the shorter wait, the burrito didn't hit the same. There was no pineapple like last time to give it that sweet balance, the meat was a lot tougher and no char on the meat. Overall, it just wasn't as enjoyable and satisfying. Pretty disappointing how inconsistent their food is. They should really see who does well in what area of the food truck and stick with it. We were excited to try Leo's Tacos at Ocean Beach after hearing so much about their LA trucks. Unfortunately, the SF experience left us disappointed. We ordered an al pastor taco, a suadero taco, a carnitas tostada, and an al pastor vampiro. The tacos were small and lightly filled--barely any meat for $3 each. The tostada and vampiro were $9 each but didn't feel worth the price. The carnitas on the tostada lacked flavor and texture, and the vampiro wasn't what we expected--it came sandwiched between two tostadas instead of the usual toasted tortilla with melted cheese. We also suspect the suadero taco wasn't actually suadero; it looked and tasted like pork. The tacos came plain with no fixings like onions or cilantro (though we did receive salsa). We had drove off before checking. The menu didn't have prices or item descriptions, which made ordering confusing. Our receipt was $32.69, but we were charged $33.51 through Apple Pay without explanation. We really wanted to like this spot because of Leo's reputation, but between the small portions, flavor, and execution issues, it fell short. Hopefully they can make improvements, but we wouldn't return based on this visit. read more
