I wish I could leave half stars because I feel like La Playa Taqueria is better than a four star review. (But not quite a five star) [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is an order and pick up food at the counter type of place. You definitely don't come here to be waited on hand and foot, nor do you come here for the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You show up for the tasty food and reasonable prices. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a small dining area inside and some seating outside. Not for a large crowd though. Most of the tables are for two. Our party barely fit the four of us outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Which is fine because this is the type of place you take your food with you. There was regular traffic coming in and out the entire time we were eating and some locals stopped by for a huge batch of tacos to bring to the beach which is within walking distance. Our group enjoyed a steak and shrimp burrito which was deemed to be excellent, cheese quesadillas, and two different types of tacos. We found the Baja Tacos to be amazing and our favorite hands down. This is the menu item we will return for. The mahi mahi tacos were just good but nothing special. We agreed that the mango was near flavorless so felt like slime in your mouth more than anything. Had the Mango been tastier, the tacos would have been killer. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and the people running the place were friendly and fast.

First time stopping by after the beach.. I ordered the fish tacos... the price was reasonable, and the tacos were great! Perfectly crispy fish, fresh tasting ingredients... salsa was spicy but delicious. I would come back again.

    Chicken burrito (super)

Let's get straight to the point: the burrito was good. Balanced throughout, perfectly warm. Unfortunately, it wasn't as large as other burritos in the city, despite being a bit pricey. 14 or 15 dollars for just the super burrito. It is slightly cheaper if you decide to use cash. I just wish there was a bit more meat stuffed inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I decided to take my burrito home, since the inside is rather small, with bar-like seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is still very inviting, with classic taqueria touches, although I wouldn't come here if I wanted a sit-down meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ultimately, the kindness of the workers and overall consistency of La Playa over the years will definitely have me coming back!

i come here so much it's not even funny... i always get the super burrito -- their tortillas and guacamole... so good. omg the quality of each ingredient I think is good. service is quick, [[HIGHLIGHT]]cozy spot, i bring so many ppl here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love this place.

I live in the East Bay but I went to SF to cool down. Saw a young couple sitting on a bench eating a burrito. That woke up my senses. So, I did a Google search and La Playa Taqueria was the closest. It is located on Noriega St. between 45th and 46th Ave. A very small establishment , but they said hello the moment I walked inside. Parking can be a challenge in the Sunset district since other quaint neighborhood restaurants are on both sides of the street. I wanted a regular burrito adding sour cream, cheese and guacamole. It was the girl who took my order that suggested the super burrito since it adds in everything where as the other one is charged for each item. I appreciated her suggestion. I decided to eat there and I did notice a steady pace arriving to order. My burrito was quick, tasty and it came with chips and salsa. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did use the restroom and the only complaint I have is the graffiti on the door, security light, mirrors. Why do people have to ruin it for others? I suggest having a painter cover up the door and perhaps find a new mirror maybe at a garage sale.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Best part, they are family owned business. Yes, if I go to San Francisco again and I want a burrito, I would go there.

Cali-Style Burrito with Asada and Fries

3.5 - I'll be back, maybe once or twice a year. I've been here more times than my check in numbers show. I've been coming here for years. This is a place for solid enough food but not necessarily a place to seek out. If you know the area, you know that in the Outer Avenues we are pretty provincial. I get down this way on my hikes down Ocean Beach (I live in Outer Richmond - 41st/Anza). For me the Mexican Food is Chino's or Cielito Lindo. If you live down here, La Playa is your place. I liked the taste of the California-Style Burrito with Carne Asada. I found a few chunks of the meat to be a bit chewy. I had the Bacon Breakfast Burrito. Again, pretty tasty but some of the bacon was a bit chewy. I'm not a fan of dodgy meat. I would probably come here more but once I go to a restaurant and eat something that turns me off I have a hard time going back. I do think they do a nice job with service - nice chips served when you dine in. As I said, I'll keep going back every so often.

The younger girl on the register has a horrible attitude! I Asked if I Could Use the restroom and she was already having a horrible attitude, she stated I had to be a customer. So in the middle of the purchase another woman asks if she can use the restroom and she says YES' I am so confused and I'm very upset that she made me pay and just let another random NOT PAY. That was ridiculous, and she continued to be rude after I payed 2.75$ for a water bottle just to use the restroom. Horrible customer service do not come here if you don't want to be judged!

I love their steak & shrimp burrito. Burritos can get soggy, probably from the lettuce? I still like them though.

Love their shrimp tacos, they are a little bit spicy. The eggsadilla is so good. I eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Being a native Bay Area person, I always heard about the burrito wars in San Francisco's Mission…read moreDistrict. Over the years I've found myself drawn to the other contender in the Mission way more than El Farolito, so I decided it was time to head back to try this legendary burrito shop. Getting to this location is super simple as we took BART and got off at the 24th Street Mission BART station and from there it's a very short walk of less than a block to get to El Farolito. Walking into the shop one is just slapped in the face with the beautiful smells of the carne asada cooking on the grill right by the door-it's wonderful. It's a modest place that you can definitely tell was built many years ago,so no overly modern amenities-this place cares about the food, not the ambiance. We ended up going with a couple of super burritos of Carne Asada ($11.25) & a regular burrito of Al Pastor($10.25) & also added two tacos one with Al Pastor and one with Carne Asada($4.75) They had beers at $4.75-so we grabbed a couple of Modelos. First the tacos-they were just ok,the tacos were crunchy and I don't know kind of gave Taco Bell vibes. Burritos though-that's a whole different animal. The burrito was so well made from the chew of the tortilla to the seasoning of the carne asada to the perfect balance and mix of all the other ingredients.I judge a burrito harshly if the mix isn't right and you don't get every ingredient in every bite and the mix at El Farolito was flawless. The price point was pretty impressive as well. In closing, El Farolito has always been in the mix as one of the top burrito spots in the Mission, and I can say with confidence that it's in my Top 2 in San Francisco currently. It's an incredible burrito and a true "must-visit" spot when visiting San Francisco. P.S. Just a slight heads up when visiting , it's not the safest neighborhood in the world, so just keep your head up when visiting-this is a place one visits for the food experience not the ambiance.

Even my picky eater, who wouldn't normally choose anything but meat and cheese, ate his as they come. The line here was long, but moved surprisingly fast, and our orders were still good and hot when we got back to our hotel. Street parking is a beast, just like anywhere else in this city. If I was looking to pack on several pounds, I'd eat here every day.

THE BEST food we ate in all of San Francisco!!!…read more This place is very popular and when we pulled up, the line went to the end of the block. Thankfully it moved quickly -- don't be deterred!!! The flow is very interesting-- you wait in line outside until you reach a small kiosk at the doorway. A hostess writes your order in hieroglyphics on server paper and you're given the stub with our order number. You're directed inside to the cashier, who double checks the order and you pay. You remain in the same line, but now you're in front of the assembly line of cooks (shout out Miguel!). The line leads to a hostess, who seats each guest in order. Once seated, you wait for your order to be called, grab you food, and eat. It's very orderly and extremely low stress. It would be utter chaos if guests had to find their own seating -- likely ruining everyone's experience. Instead, you can relax, hang out with others in line, and watch the chef's assembling burritos. The restaurant should be commended for such an efficient process! Onto the food... The carne asado burrito (dorado) is incredible! The meat is tender and salted perfectly. The beans are gooey and delicious. The guacamole is a bright and beautiful green and the taste is exceptional. There was sour cream too, but portioned perfectly to blend in with all the other flavors. The green salsa (the only salsa at the table) was perfectly balanced. I ordered a small horchata and it was overpriced (just shy of $5) and I wouldn't order it on my next visit. The whole experience was incredible and even with a huge line, we were in and out in less than an hour. Not bad at all for the best burritos we've ever had!!!

The hype is nonsense, waiting in line for a mediocre burrito is insane. It's just a basic burrito without rice, call it that. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent burrito but it's not the best and just average at most due to SF not having much competition in the Mexican food space compared to other parts of the Bay Area. The staff are incredible folks, limited seating. If you are a tourist and visiting, this ARE is the reason what outsiders think of SF - it smells, its dirty and grimey all the way. best of luck finding parking and props to you for standing in line while beggars harass you. If you are a tourist, you are better off finding better burritos in San Jose (if you don't mind the drive and safer) or Oakland (the best taquerias are in the more dangerous areas).
