Went in around 1115AM no line. I ordered the "regular" Chile verde" burrito. I got it with standard rice and black beans. Salsa and lettuce. The cost was $13.00... with tax $14.12. I could have sworn that $13 was the price for a super on the menu board. The cashier said their was a price change. Overall the burrito was just average. But it was definitely not worth $14.12. You get more from Gordos down Clement or Geary. The flavor was a bit bland... they did not even offer hot sauce, thank goodness I have some Cholula at home. I will not be coming back. read more

Quesadillas with extra cheese, boiled chicken (so flavorful!!!), rice, and all the toppings. Super burrito with carne asada or spicy chicken, rice, your beans of choice and all the toppings! What makes their food so unforgettable and so delicious is the freshness of the food and most importantly in all the years we've been coming here the consistency of the food has never faltered. We order on the phone, and it's ready within 10 minutes for us to pick up. (Don't forget that they are cash only.) Many years ago when I first saw the place, I wasn't sure about the ambience, but now I love it. I seems like a restaurant on a side street in Mexico. We do not want places like this to disappear. I know this place has been around for along time. While I don't live in the Outer Richmond I sometimes pass it when I do a walk to OB and back home. Yesterday I had friends in town from Santa Barbara and they were noticing no one was friendly, smiled or even made eye contact in this city. Being a native, I've noticed a lot of that these days as well. It's hard to find nice friendly folks. We walked in here so my friends bf could get some tacos because he was getting hangry on our 6 mile walk. My friend and I weren't super hungry so we just sat at the table. Her bf came back to the table with his three tacos and we just watched him eat. Next thing you know the nice lady that works there brought over chips and all their salsa for us to enjoy. I'm like wow how nice she definitely didn't need to do that. We nibbled on the chips and salsa's. They were all were delish. We were happy with the snack. Next thing you know the same lady came over and asked "Do you guys like steak?" She said "I saw him eating his tacos and you guys weren't eating anything so I made you this steak quesadilla!" We were floored by how sweet, nice and generous this lady was. You don't experience this sort of customer service these days at a lot of the establishments in the city. It was absolutely delicious and hit the spot, but the amount of kindness and just the way she made us feel was priceless. Thank you for the delicious food and just being all around a nice human. It brings me no pleasure giving this low rating to Chino's as I've eaten there multiple times in the last 10 years and it's usually been fairly solid or at least consistent. Unfortunately the last two times I got a burrito here there was no attention paid to the construction of the burrito and the flavor was a bit lacking. A month or so ago, the burrito I got ended up falling apart on me because it was not tightly wrapped enough. I considered it a one-off, but this weekend my friend and I went for burritos and ended up disappointed. Both of our burritos were soggy b/c due to lots of liquid being added with our meat choices. They were also very loosely wrapped and a mess to eat. I took half of mine home and when I finished it off it was incredibly soggy and unappetizing. The flavors were also fairly bland - I had the spicy chicken + the spicy sauce and it was only moderately spicy. My friend said his carnitas were underwhelming. All in all, we paid $14 each for a poorly wrapped under flavored soggy burrito. I used to like this place so I really hope the quality improves in the future. read more

This review is long overdue. Chino's Taqueria is one of my go-to spots in the Richmond District. For quick, easy and affordable comfort food, this is the place to go. I've tried many items on the menu -- the burritos, tacos, quesadillas, chips & guac and plates. Everything is so great. My favorite proteins are the grilled chicken and grilled beef. If you go with the burrito, there's several tortilla options, which is great when you want something a little different. They are always very generous with the portions. My go-to place for a quick takeout burrito after I walk the dog in Golden Gate Park.. It's not a place where I would sit and eat. It may be nice for a guy or family, but not exactly a girl's afternoon sit and chat sort of place. I always get the grilled chicken burrito. It is huge. But prices have gone up, for two burritos were $26. You get what you pay for as it was worth every dime. Don't forget to tip them very well. They work very hard to keep this neighborhood place going for us. When you go, remember it's Cash Only. Ambiance: I always get confused when I go to this place, because there are 2 doors always open. I don't know which to enter. Or, does it matter. Maybe at one time, this was 2 different stores, and they knocked down a wall. So, one side is the pick what you like and we make it for you while you watch. The other side is this odd grouping of tables and chairs that look like something they found at a sidewalk sale. You won't find anything way outside the realm of imagination here. Burritos (regular, super or JUMBO), tacos, quesadillas and nachos. You have options of meat, all of which are pretty good. Standard selection of Mexican Coke and Juarritos. So far - pretty vanilla as this type of place goes. Here's what I like: *They have multiple tortilla options. I like having the Spinach and Tomato options depending on which I order. *They steam the tortilla and melt the cheese while doing so. Much like Gordo (we have two of those in the Outer Richmond) and this is a good technique. I like my Burrito a little gooey, and this gets it done. *The meat is good. I gravitate to the Carnitas, Pulled Chicken and the Chile Verde. *Also - They have a JUMBO Burrito, which is actually more like a DOUBLE Burrito (two tortillas). I mean, sometimes you're hungry. Sometimes your flat out Hangry! *Good vibe. I like the stuffed giraffe. Here's what I'd suggest: *Open up at 7am, and sell Breakfast. It seems like making Breakfast Burritos in the morning would be a good fit for a place that makes Burritos by day and night. *Stay open until 10pm. read more

This is why I'm still hesitant going to taquerias. Especially after the pandemic. Bare hands touching ingredients and wrapping my burrito, in front of me too. I almost walked out. How hard is it to use gloves on? Takes 4 seconds to put it on. How I know if his hands are clean? Chances are it's not. If he washed it right before he touched the wrap then yeah maybe it's ok. But he did not. I mean come on. This basic food safety 101. What if he used the bathroom and touched money before wrapping my burrito? Of course the workers don't care, because he's not the one eating it or paying for it. $12 for a burrito by the way, I just expect some form of food safety. Is that too much to ask? Not to mention how skimpy they are when putting the ingredients in the burrito, especially the meat. They acting like every extra piece of meat put in the burrito is taken out of their paycheck. I don't care what they say or how many years they say they been doing it this way. Doesn't make it safe or right at all. I wasn't planning to travel to the Outer Richmond to have a taco, but Jamie W. and I were enjoying a leisurely Saturday afternoon and by process of elimination, mostly a series of Jamie's small-mouth reactions to anything I suggested, we landed on this modest operation on Balboa Street. It's not that this neighborhood is all that hoity-toity or that riff-raff like us didn't belong there. No, we just didn't expect to see a taqueria among the coffee cafes and more traditional, north-of-the-border food to be found in this enclave. The menu was pretty standard - tacos, burritos, nachos and meat plates. Jamie went for the $7.10 Super Vegetarian Burrito with plenty of black beans, rice, salsa and lettuce wrapped in a soft spinach flour tortilla (photo: http://bit.ly/2mTimni). It was heartier than most, though it needed a major dousing of hot sauce to enliven it. I will absolutely never ever ever come here again... I came here since I was a kid and I'm in my 40s now. Highly disappointing they charged me $15.73 for a side of rice and a side of pinto beans and a side of grilled chicken. At Gordos I can get all of this for about nine dollars and their food is amazing! unacceptable and in these days and times too.... and I don't mind spending money on good food because that's not my problem.
