Malaysian Curry Chicken + Egg Tart
    Karen K.

It's been a very long time since I've been here, but after looking at the menus, I decided to try it out again. The menus look and sound very good, and the price points are really good compared to other restaurants in Markham. We ordered from the Markham/Tuesday specials, which includes the dish, soup, hot milk tea, AND an egg tart. All for $11.99. That's a really good deal. Flavours are mediocre, but it still hits the spot. The Malaysian Curry and Curry Chicken tasted more like Portuguese sauce to me. There's no spice to it, so add some chilli oil in it for some kick. The Satay Beef Fried Noodles were decent as well, portion was big, sauce was fine, but there was very little beef slices inside. Looking at some other dishes from the tables beside me, they looked more appealing. I'll have to come back and try other dishes. There's lots of items to choose from, lots of specials, and their menus have a lot of combos as well. Service wasn't that great. There were 4 servers, but it still took them some time to serve us (e.g. bringing our change back, getting take out containers, napkins, refilling water, etc).

Continuing on my quest to find the best HK Style restaurant in Toronto, we came on a Sunday afternoon and it was completely packed. The restaurant is located inside the New Kennedy Square and finding a parking spot was frustrating. The decor was nothing special and seating was quite cramped. The service is essentially non-existent. I had to go get our own plates and it was incredibly difficult to even get the waitress's attention. To be fair though, they are quite busy. But still, even for a Chinese restaurant that isn't really known for their service, this was extremely terrible. We ordered the Hand shredded Chicken, Fish Fragrant Eggplant, Yang Chow Fried Rice, and their Fried Chicken Rice noodle. Everything was quite good but the fried rice and noodle dishes were a bit too oily for me. They have afternoon tea and a bunch of other good deals ranging from $6.99 to $11.99. Although they primarily serve HK cha chaan teng dishes, They also offer a lot South East Asian dishes like Laksa. The food is honestly quite tasty and portion sizes is great. But I don't think I would come back again just because finding a parking spot was such a pain in the ass and the service was horrible.

Curry crab is their signature dish. It is more on Malaysia style curry. Curry is good to go with rice or nan like bread. General dish is good . Service is fast . And it is more on family casual type.

好有鑊氣! Came here on a weekday around 7pm for dinner and it was packed! Luckily parking was extremely accessible/ lots of spots were available! I honestly cannot complain about the food, especially for its price point! The service isn't the greatest either, but honestly when you're coming to these places... you're just want cheap/ reasonable priced food that is decent quality! Please do not expect to impress a date here, unless your date is usually casual and down to earth. Cons: Cash only for their daily special- tax is still applicable. Pro: Most of their daily special comes with soup and drink

Restaurant is located near the entrance of the mall. I came on a Tuesday for their lunch special. It was really busy. Just one thing to note is they don't have high chairs or booster seats so make sure to bring your own if needed. The lunch special menu is $11.99 for a dish comes with soup, hot milk tea and an egg tart. I ordered a stir fried chicken with ramen and a shredded pork fried noodle. The shredded pork fried noodle wasn't as good as the sauce was overflowing the noodles. The egg tarts were delicious. The portions were pretty decent and the price is amazing.

Time has so changed! Les Chasteaux has gone All-Recession mode. They have discount menus from Monday to Sunday, with Wednesday the most affordable at $9.99, beating many food courts offerings. The Monday to Friday menus focus on protein on rice or noodles, and the Saturday and Sunday menu focus on dinner dishes. You order bowls of rice extra. We came on Sunday, and found the dinner dishes had lot of meat. Portion was good. The recession menus are good deals. The food is just about the same as before (same over salty, over oily, good wok air). If you like the food here before you likely enjoy it. If you don't like it before you won't be surprised. This is layman, neighborhood Chinese diner food. Still recommended. Will return.

Very good Malay-style cafe with good selections. Their Malay beef brisket curry was so flavourful and the meat was very tender. It came with French baguettes and they matched up so well with the creamy curry sauce. I couldn't resist returning the next day for some other dishes. They also have some other Chinese-style dishes and an HK-style lunch menu. Will try them out some other day. Recommended.

I love Malaysian/Indonesian cuisine so I was excited to try this place. I was hesitant given that they are more known for their HK bakery and HK style cafe. The fried rice isn't good at all. The flavours wasn't there and didn't really taste anything unique other than rice and soy sauce. The char kway teow was alright, but nothing compare to other ones we have had at other places. It was more of a thick rice noodle with soy sauce, mixed in with some shrimp. The service was awful. We ordered a HK milk tea which didn't come until we asked for the bill. We couldn't ask anyone during the meal because it was impossible to flag them down. They rushed to take our order after sitting down for a few minutes. The only take cash. The one good thing is that their portions are big. We ordered a fried rice and noodle for two people, and we had leftovers for both dishes. Our bill came to a bit over $40 including tips and tax. Regardless, I won't be back here any time soon.

The "Penang Char Kway Teow" is good - if you don't treat it as Penang Char Kway Teow. It's actually dry fried prawn horfun. It uses hor fun, not the thinner sort of rice noodles. It's topped with fried and spring onion, tomato and cucumber. The wok hei (smoky wok flavour) is pretty good, it's a huge serving and there's a lot of big prawns, but there're no other ingredients (oh, but there's also onion strangely). There's also no chili. The Indonesian fried rice is pretty tasty with good wok hei. Unfortunately the Nonya fried rice is only OK. It has a hint of sambal belachan and a touch of spiciness. There's only a little wok hei Portuguese sauce pork chop was ok. It had a coconut sauce that looked like curry but didn't taste of it (as it's supposed to). It was also odd in coming with peppers and onion. Sambal belachan eggplant was decent. Portions here are big. But the service is bad. They screwed up the order and brought the wrong dish once. Then an order of macaroni came as rice - we were told that despite the menu, macaroni hadn't been available for a long time. Yet the server didn't tell us this upon ordering.

One of the newer Hong Kong Cafe style restaurant with set breakfast. Love their simple brown and white color decor. Booth seating was comfortable. We had breakfast set of toast, noodles and coffee. Enjoy all of it! My husband enjoyed his pineapple bun with butter so much, he had another! Service was good as well. Will keep this one to repeat for our next visit!

Love the food here, they are a Hong Kong cafe but have Malaysian and Singaporean dishes as well! Service is quick and the restaurant is clean. Overall a great place for a quick meal! The chicken rice and the kuay teow are my favourite dishes.

We came on a chilly spring day around lunch time. The only available seats were right by the door to the parking lot. We didn't want to wait so we took that table. It was quite cold sitting there. Every time someone would come in there would be a cool breeze. Good thing food didn't take too long to come out so we warmed up a bit once we started eating. The char kwei teow was bigger than expected and very tasty. I didn't really taste the heat from the chilli peppers but I did also stay away from them. The side order of veggies was cooked just right and a decent size. We'll be back to try other dishes.

So I said I would return for a follow-up review... I came back for a dinner recently, not intentionally, it was decided for me. The reason I was so disappointed last time was because they opened prematurely, had untrained staff and menus too basic, and I unfortunately had to experience all of that. An unfair review placed upon themselves imo lol. This time around, it seems they have all that readjusted. The food was made well, with balanced flavours and portions exceptionally big. The menus make sense. Contrary to my last visit, they have lunch/tea combos now like a normal HK-style restaurant, which is more my style. (They are advertised as a Malaysian restaurant, but they do sell a specific HK menu!) Anyway, two thumbs up :) I will come back.

We were seated right away and menus provided at the same time. There was a Lunch Special menu but we decided to order full portions from the regular menu. We were able to order right away and our drinks and ice water were brought out. Our food was brought out fairly quickly, all of it being hot. Roti is a must order item! The noodles were also very tasty with the shrimp not being overcooked. Fried chicken was crispy on the outside and nice and juicy inside. Service was attentive with the servers checking on us every so often and clearing empty plates away. When we were done eating, the server packed up our leftovers for us instead of just giving us containers. You can pay by card or cash, but just be advised that they do not accept $100 bills. Parking was pretty easy to get a spot that wasn't too far from the entrance.

We were quickly seated and the service was really attentive and appreciated. At around 6-630pm the restaurant began to quickly fill with couples and families. We had the chicken and shrimp Pad Thai and the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goring. We really enjoyed the fried chicken, coconut rice of the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goring, and the amount of spice in the sambal onion and anchovies. The noodles in the Pad Thai had a firm texture which we liked, but for me the sauce was a bit sweet. If coming to the restaurant from 6pm on a weekend, the parking lot is very busy and you could be circling for a parking spot and having to move around vehicles that are double parked for take-out orders.

Looks like a table by the front entrance is reserved for owner admin purposes. Front area filled with good luck paraphilia to ward off evil spirits. My friend knew all the staff and proceeded right away to speak Malay. Let my friend do the ordering, I recognized a few of the dishes such as beef curry, chicken curry (both with roti), boneless chicken rice plate, chicken skewers, grilled sambal stingray, penang hokkien mee and a few other dishes (look at photos) I didn't recognise. There was one interesting dish Rojak, a mixed salad of chopped fruit & vegetables smothered in a pungent fermented shrimp sauce, sweet, tangy, spicy, a whole smorgasbord of flavors dancing on my tongue. Three words I've never used to describe Roti, theirs was crunchy, fluffy and moist, wonderfully dipped either in the beef or chicken curry. Chicken skewers were grilled well, meat remained moist with a nice grilled aftertaste, not necessary to dip into the accompanied curry sauce as the overall flavor stood on its own. The Sambal sting ray was a little disappointing, didn't match the memory of the one I had at the Singaporean hawker food court I had a few years ago. Overall flavor was lacking. Penang Hokkien Mee is the real deal, large plump shrimp w/ firm egg noodles in a somewhat spicy flavorful broth. We came on a Friday night, the restaurant was about 50% full, what a great cultural food experience which needs further support.

The complimentary house soup landed flat for my dining companion who barely finished half of hers, whereas I enjoyed this comforting no-frills soup. The portions are decent and the flavours were mostly good. The sweet and sour pork, unfortunately, was mostly batter and had very little meat. The green beans were crunchy and good, the chicken slices were well-velveted, but the black bean sauce was barely there. The beef ho fun was less oily which we appreciated.
