***BUYER BEWARE*** We do not recommend inviting Lester Carpet into your home. The company was unresponsive and unhelpful after one of their workers stole jewelry from our home. It's hard to understand how a family company that's been around for more than 60 years would not want to maintain their reputation and at least handle the situation appropriately. Here's what happened: - After the theft, we reached out to Lester Carpet. They would not respond. - We filed a police report. - We requested their insurance information to file a claim. They wouldn't provide it. - It took a legal letter for them to give us the name of their insurance company. - We filed a claim, which their insurance denied because it was a he said/ she said situation. The ins co never even interviewed our witness. Lester Carpet did not live up to their claims. On their website they say, "We have to make sure that every customer that we work with is going to call on us in the future, and trust us enough to refer us to their friends and family." Lester Carpet has proven themselves UNTRUSTWORTHY. We made a mistake by trusting them. Don't do the same. We were good customers. Given all the evidence presented, it was ridiculous that they would not work with us to find a solution. I regret inviting them into our home and suggest you AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

In my entire adult, homeown-ing life, I think I have purchased only one rug NOT from Lester. I went to a stylish friend's house and ooh-ed and aah-ed over the fab, plush rug in his living room. It felt luxurious and expensive. When I complimented him he said 'oh it's easy, just go to Lester and get whatever you want '. They carry remnants, BIG ones. I don't know how this works (could it be that everyone over orders this drastically?!) but I have purchased 4 rugs from them now and it's been easy and VERY reasonably priced every time. You can pick your bindings which can really customize your choice. The largest I have ordered is 9'x 12' and I don't think that any of them has been very much more over $300- now that is a deal. They even carry a big variety of astro turf The 4 star is because 1x, the binding was too tight and it took MONTHS to train it to lay flat (weighing down the corners and finally taping the edges). I came to the store. Spoke to David. He gave me quote of about 390$ for the labor and carpet I chose with my wife. I told him I would be back once I paint the room. Week later I came back and spoke to Jason. He came to my house and made an estimate. The estimate and then the actual bill was less than origonal quote. He was able to schedule installation same day. The tech who came to do the job was also polite and prompt. I am 200% percent satisfied. May be even 300%. At the end, my wife came home and checked the work. She had a positive smile. Thanks to Yelp, I received a helpful referral to check out Lester Carpet as the go-to guys for carpet. The location is right by the Grove, heavily trafficky and kind of difficult to get to given tons of traffic and no easy freeway access, but ultimately I'm glad I made the trip. Everyone who works here is very friendly and knowledgeable with a 100% no-pressure attitude. I picked out some carpet that I liked and when it was supposed to be installed, there were a few minor glitches (there wasn't enough of the carpet that I'd chosen so I had to pick out another one) but it was all handled quickly, apologetically and professionally (plus I got a little discount for my inconvenience which was considerate of them). I was very happy with the work done by Lester Carpet, the total cost for carpeting and installation in 2 rooms was $625. I've disliked the white Berber carpet in my condo's bedroom and office since the day I moved in. Ten years later, I loathed it with a passion and was determined to cross replacing it off my December to-do list. After getting what sounded like an inflated bid from a Brentwood store, I called Lester Carpet to come out to measure my rooms, and then braced myself for the teeth-gritting drive to their store near The Grove. I was glad I did. Salesman David Schiller (who had previously measured my floors) was low-key and helpful. I found almost the same plush honey-tan colored carpet I'd seen at the other store for considerably less. I also chose an unusual retro linoleum for my master bathroom, which badly needed an upgrade. No one asked me for a deposit. I just told David the date I wanted the carpet installed and that was it. As it turned out, I postponed the installation by one day due to an anticipated rainstorm and he was happy to accommodate me. The three installation guys were great and hard-working. They cheerfully showed up 15 minutes early and worked fast. They moved all of our furniture onto the patio and into the living room, tore out the old carpet and pad in a jiffy, scraped off the disgusting stains left by the old pad and swept up the dust. Then came the loud part - hammering nails into the new pad and laying the fresh carpet. After they vacuumed up the fuzz (keep an extra vacuum bag on hand), they moved our furniture back into the rooms, which looked amazing! They even remembered to lay the dust ruffle on the box springs before returning the mattress. I was impressed. The linoleum installation went equally well. Even though the bid only required the crew to lay the new floor over the old linoleum, they ripped out the old floor first -- a muscular undertaking. They scraped off the old glue and swept it up before installing the new floor onto the clean plywood. They even removed the door to perfectly align the linoleum. These guys were thorough and finished by 3 pm. A few areas for improvement: (1) David had warned me that the old carpet contained a lot of dust and to remove all the clothes from my closet, as well as anything else I didn't want getting dusty. But he hadn't warned me about dust in the bathroom from the linoleum. As a result my toothbrush, make-up and towels were covered in a fine layer of white dust. If I'd known, I'd have moved them out, too. (2) We can no longer close our bedroom door completely. Lester states on its contract that it isn't responsible for this; however, it would have been nice if the guys had mentioned it before they left. We didn't discover it until bedtime. (3) Only one of the workers spoke English semi-fluently, the other two spoke only Spanish. There were a couple times that I tried to ask the lead guy a question and he just didn't understand me. Other than that, however, I felt comfortable being alone in the house with them. (4) Last but not least, I was concerned that none of the crew wore ventilator masks. The glue emitted strong fumes and large clouds of dust flew around. Even in the kitchen, I was coughing and developed a headache. I finally insisted on opening the windows despite the cold temperatures outside. These points aside, I was thrilled with the new carpet and flooring. It looks and feels amazing to walk on. I called Lester Carpet and asked them to add a $20 tip for each of the crew onto my credit-card bill. I'm a happy customer! read more

Who know that uprooting the old and putting in the new could go so easily? The room that needed carpet was so small some companies laughed at me when I said how much carpet I (didn't) need... Lester's instead pointed out that they could sell me a scrap piece that big, and led me to the (large!) part of their warehouse to pick something out. I ended up getting some high-end Berber carpet, with padding... for... sorry it's been awhile but... $65? Installed. Yep. (I think that included my tip, are you supposed to tip carpet guys? I did, they deserved it!) Not only that, but they let me have a scrap of plaid carpet (I love me some plaid) because i swooned over it. Did have some drama around insurance required by my HOA (totally my fault) and not sure it ever got resolved but they came anyway and did the job. Would have like to have had someone confirm the install the morning of, and call after to see if I had a good experience and it was a little more in price than I expected based on some reviews (but super fair and one friend said I had unrealistic expectations) but all in all I was very pleased and would use them again without question. read more

I should have updated this review long ago, but I was (heavily) pregnant when writing the original review and, well, birthing a child and raising a tiny human came with higher priorities than logging in to Yelp. I did eventually hear from someone at Lester Carpet and they made the situation right, so I want to update my review to reflect that. I appreciate that they took the time to do that (though more prompt follow-up would have been nice). All told, we do really (and I mean REALLY) love the quality of the carpet we chose and one year later we don't have any problems to report. Given the way our issue was resolved, we would recommend Lester Carpet and I would buy from them again in the future. Their price for the type of carpet we selected was competitive. read more

15 years ago Lester Carpet Company sold me and installed carpeting in my downstairs gym and spare bedroom. It was time for a change. This family run company still offers the same fine quality service and installation that won me over then. This time Neal Lester helped me. But sons Jason and Ryan are also very knowledgeable. I decided to move up to a commercial grade laminate. Because I'm a Felix Unger type of guy I told Neal the job had to be done to my "reasonable" satisfaction. We shook hands. Today two of his best installers Eddie and Edgar finished the job. It's fantastic. Like a ballroom. I can dance on it. If you are looking for a fancy showroom and a latte please go to the Design Center-The Blue Whale- with your interior decorator. But if you want good quality products along with professional installation please be patient and work with these fine people. Don't be a snob. You will be glad you went there. read more

I needed to replace some old gross stained carpet. I chose fake wood (linoleum) and I can't believe it isn't real wood. It looks awesome. The whole process was super easy. First of all, they didn't try to upsell me on anything. Not pushy at all. On the day of the service, the guy that was supposed to come got hung up on another job, and they quickly found two other guys to do it, so that they wouldn't have to reschedule the service. I just purchased a large 8.5x11 foot shag rug from Lester Carpets. After I had visited several LA carpet stores on La Brea and other streets. I wanted a shag rug that did not look cheap, that you could not see the scalp of the rug, and that looked expensive. My cheapest option was at IKEA. I think it was about $700 and up for something ALMOST the size of the rug I got and though that was a decent rug it was far too expensive. The cheaper ones were about $140 for something 5x7 feet in size. So I went on Yelp and typed in my zip and carpet stores. I read the reviews about Lester Carpets and wanted to support a family-owned business. The reviews said how great they were, how great the prices were, and how customer service oriented they were. When I went there, I decided on a carpet within 5 minutes. They gave me samples to take home and made it ZERO pressure. I really appreciate that. I was told that if I buy carpeting from anyone, I'd have to bind it and that was expensive. When i asked Lester Carpets about binding they told me that it was not necessary on Shag rugs, because the shag covers the edges. When I told them that I was told we had to bind them, the sales guy told me that the other stores were full of sh*t and that was a major up-selling tactic. I love honesty. Here is my advice: Call them. Buy from the and support a family owned business, a GOOD family owned business. What lester carpets probably banks on, are customers like me. So far I've told 3 people about them that are considering buying rugs themselves. Good business deserves more business. Oh and I got my rug for less than $250. read more
