Very rude owner and staff. Won't go back. Food was good but that is not enough to overcome

It was overpriced and underwhelming. Thomasville was a beautiful city at Christmas Time.

Liam's came to me highly recommended, to say the very least. Several food writers I know based in the South have claimed Liam's is not just the best restaurant in south Georgia but indeed a good contender for the best in the entire state--a situation that has to raise ire and envy in Atlanta and Savannah. Quite possibly, it's the best in the whole region (of the South, not just Georgia) as well, I was told, with its combination of innovation, skillful chefs, and mostly locally-sourced food--the latter enabled by the diversity and bounty of the farms surrounding Thomasville which produce everything from first class cheeses to honey to pecans to poultry to vegetables. It's one of the richest farming regions and also one with a lengthy and proud agricultural history in the entire South. So I went in the door with excitement and trepidation alike--I was also honestly worried I'd be out of place given I was in soccer shorts and running shoes and about to head to a high school football game, but a lady whom I later learned was none other than one of the owners assured me I was just fine. Regardless, I took a seat at the very back of the bar, in part to hide myself since I looked better prepared for a track meet than the best restaurant in Georgia. Liam's now has a bar/lounge area, by the way, as well as its original dining room which is a nice touch and adds craft cocktails and some bar food to its roster of menu items. Since I was at the bar I ordered a cocktail--a Sazerac which was made with Cognac (rather than Bourbon) as the original New Orleans Sazerac was supposedly many moons ago. Though I prefer Bourbon, I was impressed with this drink and the obvious care and thought put into it. I also ordered a sandwich--the bar'wich No. 2 I believe they call it. Laden with prosciutto and local cheese, it was delicious. Perhaps not a dish that demonstrates all the skills and innovations of the kitchen but nonetheless the quality and balance of all the ingredients came through perfectly and keenly. You could tell the cheese was first-rate, as was the ham. In some regards, that is exactly the test of a fine restaurant--you order the simplest thing on the menu and yet it still towers above what its own kind would merit in most restaurants, even in the better of places. Here, the sandwich came out like the cocktail before it with obvious care and craftsmanship. The server was polite, prompt, and eager to explain things and answer any questions. The owner came over and chatted a while and was clearly enjoying her customers and running her restaurant. The cheese cooler sits near the entrance and the cheeses all looked very impressive, as well as plenty diverse. I'm already eager to go back to Liam's even if I make a special trip of it. I've heard of people diving hours to dine here and it's clear they are not desperate nor bored, but of very sound judgement. All in all, one of the finest restaurants I've visited in a long while. read more

75 dollars for a raw rib eye , and some potatoes that were in a blender for 5 minutes, no salt no pepper just raw meat and unseasoned veggies , that was Saturday. Then they close for Sunday and Monday, so hopefully you forget how horrible it was , Can't wait for Tuesday so I can get a refund read more

Very unprofessional service. My in-laws have been loyal customers for years and have raved about liams. We made reservations 3 weeks in advance for my father in law's birthday. Earlier that day my mother in law called ahead to ask if they could accommodate a high chair/ extra seat for my 2 year old son but no one answered. We showed up early to ask and instead we were placed on the "garden patio" which was a wobbly iron patio table with no linens and a dumpster in site. The waiter even brought out cardboard pieces to try and stabilize the table. I wish I took a picture of how horrible it was. Meanwhile across the way was a beautiful site of fine dining from the restaurant next door with outdoor umbrellas and lights. We were this wobbly table in the corner across the way. I could tell the server felt bad and I told her this was a special celebration for my father in law that we flew in for so she said she would talk to management but the manager said sorry we are full and asked me to move while she seated other people. It started to rain, then pour, we went inside to ask to be moved and they couldn't accommodate yet kept giving tables to other people.We ultimately just left. First of all we visited on an event night, so yes very busy , noisy and chaotic! My wife ordered a charcuterie and I've never seen such minuscule portions!! There were four in our party so we were forced to order a second after we stopped laughing. I had the salmon, once again it was the smallest cut I've EVER seen! My wife had the $75 ribeye. NOT the large , chef seasoned or special ribeye. JUST A RIBEYE?!!! We were very disappointed and unless the moon shifts we wont be back. Overpriced and poor value! A table for two and you can't move your feet at all. It may look nice but it's a side table with the legs so high that it's very uncomfortable. We ordered the "daily blue" which was salmon and collard greens with pearl onions and a charcuterie board. The salmon came out first which was strange and to say the sight of it was a disappointment is an understatement. It came out in a bowl and it was less food than I'd feed my child for breakfast. I immediately thought, this has to be amazing! We were absolutely disgusted! Completely fishy and no flavor. My husband has never sent back a meal. When we told the waiter he actually argued with us. Just had lunch at Liam's. We came during lunch hour but were restricted to eating in the bar only. The alcoholic drinks were good but nothing else was. The 6 cheese board was pathetic. The board came out with one bite sized of cheese and broken up stale crackers. We had to ask for fresh crackers. We were told that the 6 cheese board was plenty for 2 but barely enough for one. Also the board was I presentable having only one bite cheese portions and nothing else. Unlike the restaurant SWEET GRASS where we ate yesterday and the cheese board was generous and nicely presented we will not return to Liam. read more

We stopped in at Liam's for an appetizer and a drink while we were on wait at jonahs. We came into the bar area which was bustling and full of people. It was dimly lit and the bar had a vintage feel to it, lightly updated with a hipster vibe which is apparent through the wait staff there. We sat in the back corner and each grabbed a drink. Boyfriend got a beer and I decided on a glass of champagne. Easy enough. Boyfriend didn't love his beer choice recommendation, but said it was something I would like and understood why the guy recommended it based on what he likes. I was happy with my champagne though. Almost immediately after being given our menus I spotted a spicy blue crab dip. Being the Maryland girl I am, I couldn't turn down this opportunity. We split the crab dip and cashed out, as we were still on the list next door and wanted to be able to jump out at any time. The wait staff was very accommodating and happy that we decided to pop by, even if just for a drink and an app. Back to the dip- totally amazing and I would recommend if you're looking for a decent bar snack. It came with some strange toppings (why the chunks of cranberry jelly??) but that may just be the Maryland purist in me that just wants the dip and crackers. It probably makes sense to someone else... but I don't really care because the star of the show is great and that's all that matters. We settled in the bar. My friend asked some questions about drinks. The hostess was off putting and we had a poor start. Nice ambience. Drinks in the lounge were good. The server for dinner was excellent. The butternut squash was too spicy. Our cobia fish dinner was undercooked. Every dinner restaurant in downtown Thomasville was packed and Liams was half empty. As a solo traveler/diner I place a premium on prompt attentive service. In other words the exact polar opposite of what I got tonight sitting DIRECTLY in front of the server at the bar. His girlfriend - another barhop - came in and got an immediate drink while me and other established customers sat waiting. We just moved to Tallahassee from Columbus Ohio- this is our second trip to Thomasville. My husband and kids had hamburgers and I had the prosciutto and horseradish sandwich- all were delicious. They were orange juice from the mimosas and milk- but other than that it was really good. read more

This unassuming spot is a gem in the south Georgia southern fried culinary wasteland. Don't expect okra and green tomatoes here! This is 5 star cuisine at its best. Yes, you'll pay for it, but for those of us who can't live on breading alone, this is nirvana. If you're put off by the dinner prices, make plans to visit for Saturday's European Breakfast. You can get to a great start with chicory coffee and beignets. The Croque Madam is delicious. The Pain Perdu is what French Toast is in Heaven. If you can bankroll dinner, do not miss on the cheese flights. The selection is outstanding. Do not miss Liam's! read more

It is a feel-good restaurant where you can have well prepared, simple but elegant dishes with your family and friends. Everything is well seasoned and prepared with care. It's not fancy, dinner menu is somewhat limited, and price might seem high to some people. It can get loud if crowded. But it's the only place around Tallahassee where one can get decent selection of cheese and wine, plus some really well crafted dishes (although they are not that creative). * Great cheese selection/ very good charcuterie plate/ very good tomato basil crab bisque/ Great Farmer's Toast (must try!)/ Also a good quail dish, although very intense and concentrated flavor. * Great brunch and lunch options! (Their brunch and lunch menu are much bigger and nicely priced) * The only thing I didn't like from what I have ordered at Liam's was the Flank steak. P.S. It feels weird to give this place 4 stars as I gave 4 stars to a donut shop in Athens - they are totally different kind of places, and they are good for what they are. I don't write reviews often but the thing that saved the meal was definitely the crab cakes. Everything else was subpar. Duck bolognese was salty reminded me of stroganoff. Disappointed but the atmosphere is great and staff are wonderful. read more

This is our 2nd time here and we just love it!! We live in Orlando area but we have to go to Tallahassee for work and is totally worth it the drive to Thomasville. Rhonda is beyond awesome! This place is amazing!!! The atmosphere is incredible and the people are incredibly kind. We came here to celebrate my brother's graduation from FSU and it was great! The food was a bit expensive but absolutely to die for. They had so many cheeses including one that had to be kept in a led box!! I really can't say anything that would do this restaurant justice. This is honestly the first review I have written, but felt a necessity....to avoid someone else's wasting their "brunch" time. Whoa....sweet, nice server, but the Saturday brunch menu is a joke. "Mesa pancakes, stack of 3" ---my 6 yr old could have eaten twice that many --and NEVER has anyone put the syrup already on my pancakes, whilst covering also a piece of paper, upon which clever sayings were written ---all sticky and soaked! WHO DOES THAT????? Anyhow, even a small piece of meat would have made the $9 price maybe acceptable ---but there was only a small bowl of fresh fruit. WOW, can you say, "rip-off"??? Sorry, all you Tallahassee travelers.....save your gas $$ and get a really nice stack of fluffy, perfectly cooked, pancakes at Cracker Barrel!!! Liam's seems to be the best food in Thomasville and a nice little family run restaurant. We love the fact that the menu is small and focuses on good quality food. We always make a point to stop on our way to the beach (usually both ways) because the food and service are just that good. read more

We love Liam's. Rarely in our extensive dining adventures have we encountered a restaurant with such heart. The staff and owners are like a family who truly care to welcome and delight others. Days before arriving for a reservation, Liam's staff actually called us to ask us all about the preferences of two vegans in our party. How rare is that? They truly care (and they wowed the picky vegans). The setting is warm and quirky, with a fun nod to "the seven deadly sins." (Don't skip the cocktails. "Greed" is good. I consider myself a happy person, but I took to "Wrath.") An exploration of Liam's website is worthwhile, as it is an accurate reflection of the personality and philosophy of the place. The only reason for ranking Liam's 4 stars and not 5 is slightly-- slightly-- over cooked fish and slightly tougher duck than promised. (we're really being picky here, in fairness to the pickiest of readers) But delicious and delightful and so full of heart and personality... We will go back again and again! Go to Liam's! read more

Stay away. Ordered a cocktail that was pretty good, then ordered the same cocktail and the other bartender made it. First one was pretty good, 2nd one was really bad. I sent it back right away and the bartenders response was "once I hand it to you I have to charge you." I wasn't asking for it to be taken off my bill but ok. I then asked to speak to the manager/owner who has a reputation for being rude and she began to lecture me how my pallet must've changed from the first cocktail to the second. Then all her bartenders make it correctly and they never make a drink incorrect. "Bring my check please". Food was ok. There's several better places than this one. read more

I can't actually rate the food at Liam's because they never served us. I was surprised in Thomasville to be treated poorly. We went for a family birthday and were very excited as it is a nice looking place. We sat at the bar to get a drink first. There was only one other party at the bar and three bartenders- but no one made eye contact or spoke to us for at least 10 minutes. Then someone came over and told us not to touch the lemons (they are sitting on the bar) but didn't greet us or take our order. About 5 minutes later we were told that we can't sit at the bar at all since in person in our group was underage. Not sure how they would have known that ( he was 20 years old ) but again we never got to order. We decided to leave and they shouted "have a nice day" - I have experienced this kind of attitude in really upscale places in big cities but didn't expect it here read more

Scott and Rhonda are such passionate foodies and restaurant owners. It shows in every detail of their dishes and cocktails, and in the way they treat their staff (they regularly create and name cocktails after their staff members' personalities). Rhonda knows everything about every one of their divine cheese selections (right down to the kinds of rocks the goats eat). My favorite ever: a beef tartare Scott whipped up with house made chips. You can never go wrong by telling Rhonda your flavor likes and dislikes when it comes to cheese selections and then letting her put you a board together. She'll expand your tastes and your knowledge when she comes to the table to tell you what she's selected. The service is fantastic and decor eclectic and cozy. read more

Very cute place, but the service was not fully up to par. I walk in with four of my girlfriends and we are seating. The waitress asked us if we would like some drinks and food and we proceeded to tell her that we were looking at the menu. My friends and I are all 18 and she proceeds to ask us for our IDs and we make it very clear that we would just like a round of water. She tells us if we try anything funny or try to get alcoholic beverages that we will be banned and escorted out. It was very uncomfortable and not welcoming. We told her the second she asked for our IDs at the beginning that we would just like water and she still went on a very big talk with us. I understand what she was trying to do, but it could have been said in a more professional way. We get our food a while later and a different waitress is explaining on the different meats and cheeses and is pointing to them. She proceeds to touch her finger to one of the cheeses. Keep in mind that this is during COVID. We didn't want to cause a scene, so we avoided that piece. At the end of dinner I went and asked for the manager to explain the situation. The manager was wearing no mask the entire time and did nothing to try and make up for the situation or learn from it for the future. It was a very unpleasant response. Solid restaurant with limited foodie menu. You will not go wrong here, but limited menu was the biggest issue. The lounge was a great space for a drink. We had an initial issue, however the manager, Rhonda, went WAY beyond in order to accommodate our needs! She was truly outstanding while handle others as well. One of mine and my husband's favorite restaurants. We celebrated our 7th anniversary with dinner and cocktails. We arrived early enough for happy hour with reduced prices on cocktails and delicious cheese board for $10. I ordered the spring veggies in pesto and homemade farfalle with guanchali and fresh peas. Both were light but delectable. My husband had the kale salad and salmon special which he enjoyed. They have opened a lounge that looked like a nice place to enjoy a leisurely cocktail, but also offered you the ability to order from the regular menu or have a few lighter options of bar food. Rhonda knows her cheese and it is obvious she loves serving a tremendous variety to her patrons. She has a superb knowledge of cheese. Great place and have never had anything but great food in a great atmosphere. Worth the short drive from Tallahassee to dine here. read more
