I had a terrible experience with the dealer and especially the sales associate that I came to Liberty Subaru- this place is head over heels better than the stuffy Englewood dealership! DO NOT DEAL with this dealership! They are SCAMMERS. I wanted to trade in a car and agreed to the trade in value. We also negotiated to a price on their 2016 STI. I wanted to put a deposit down and the sales rep tells me APR is 5% before running the credit app. I made him run it and he tells me it's 5% even though credit is 820! Called chase, they never inquired about credit! When I called them out on it, they never replied. In two days Sales manager DAN gets back to me. He gives me the right % on the APR, but Guess what? He drops the value of my trade in $3000! Claims "we have to make money" and "we have the right to mark up APR as well. DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM. This was the first time my wife every approached a dealership on her own to purchase a new car. I should have went with her. If it wasn't for the fact we would have to travel 300 miles to find the same equipped car elsewhere, we would have walked out. They were rude, and then made excuses about why they were. stating they were tired or they didn't recall the conversation. If I could give a zero I would. Terrible dealership. I have been going here for years for the majority of my servicing due to its proximity to where I live. When it came time to buy a new subaru, I thought I'd try them out... Their sales staff said they don't do trade-ins which I thought odd. Immediately I was turned off by that so I went elsewhere to make my purchase. On top of which, it took about an hour for any of the sales staff to even notice that I was browsing. No one approached me, I had to approach them. As mentioned in someone else's review I am a woman. I guess they discriminate against women. I used to like the service center, but sent my boyfriend to them when he purchased a used car from an individual. He had them check it out and they basically didn't do a thorough job since he ended up having a leak in the coolant. He went back and had them check it again and they said it was a gasket... he took it to another mechanic who did a compression test and said the gasket was fine. The service center and accountants are the biggest jerks ever and I don't trust them. Basically when they say they find something wrong, I take it elsewhere to be looked at. I only do oil changes there. Overall jerks that should learn how to be better at customer service. DON'T BOTHER. read more

Dealer refused to refund a deposit of $500 on a vehicle. They were not able to make delivery on the vehicle in the time frame that was agreed on, therefor i purchased elsewhere that met my timeframe. Deposit was stated as "refundable" on phone. This is the only dealer i've dealt with that refuses to refund a customer's deposit on a car that was already in-route to the dealer. This was not a custom ordered car nor did they have to get it from another dealer. Any reputable and honest dealer will have no problem refunding $500 to a customer that was not happy with the transaction. They would not let her take it to her mechanic but assured us that the AAA approved Service station they had would be fine . 3 months later the water pump went out . So my son's 2010 Forester was having issues while he was in Maryland. After he got back to NJ he had his service done by out local mechanic who also diagnosed an issue with his catalytic converter. Since this was still under a federal warranty, we brought it to Liberty. Specifically they were told that the car would not accelerate while on the highway while going uphill and also gave them the diagnostic codes that out local mechanic found.I fully understand that any mechanic would need to duplicate the problem and not take the word of the customer, before they attempt a repair. After 2 days of no call back, we called them. Chris told my son that they drove it around town and found nothing in addition to finding no codes stored in the computer. Again he was told that they needed to bring this car onto the highway but Chris told my son that he could do nothing else. I called back and spoke to Bob Osterlof, the service manager. He said that possibly out local mechanic erased the diagnostic codes and wouldn't admit to it. He also flat out refused to try to duplicate the issue that we found at highway speeds, eventually telling me that if i authorized payment of $120/hr then he would have a mechanic take the car on the highway. . I called Subaru USA and was told that they would look into it along with a few excuses as to why Subaru couldn't find any diagnostic codes. I received in my email a coupon to pay for a diagnostic visit. Called back Bob Osterlof and he agreed to take the car out on Friday, 4 days after we brought this car in. I guess the rep at corporate and Bob had a nice chat. Well whadaya know..Bob and his trusty mechanics,after doing what we asked them to all along,,, bring the car on the highway, found issues with the catalytic converters. The catalytic converters were replaced at no charge as per the federal warranty... not because Subaru were good guys. No apology, no excuse. Bob Osterlof in my experience, was arrogant and more interested in keeping his bottom line fat than he was in making sure that his customer's cars were safe and actually LISTENING to what the issue was. One last point was that on the service receipt we were handed when we left, Bob Osterlof listed our issue as a lit check engine light..... WRONG and a lie. The check engine light was never on, nor was that an issue. All along we said that when trying to accelerate uphill on the highway, the car lost power and wouldn't go faster than about 40 mph. I'm disappointed to have to write this review, which pertains to a sales transaction. Most of the people I worked with were VERY friendly, and I love my new car. I felt hopeful to work with a business that is TrueCar certified, and I think with some attention, they could really be a great dealership. I spoke with a manager here, Clayton, who seems attentive and great. I wish I could have worked with him more directly from the beginning. But here are the deterrents that cost three stars in my opinion: I had two separate frustrating experiences with a condescending receptionist when calling. I do NOT respond well to condescension and it is a paramount annoyance when dealing with a customer service personnel, especially the first person you encounter when calling. Because I had received the same sort of attitude twice when calling with two different questions through the car buying process, I'm guessing it's the same woman and management would do well to deal with her swiftly. Second, communication and follow through with communication; serious delays to the point of neglecting the needs of the customer (I'm talking for days at a time, multiple days at at time, resulting in me being without my registration after my temp registration expired). Next, the snippy receptionist who I'm guessing packaged my registration to be mailed stapled receipts THROUGH MY REGISTRATION STICKER. You know, based on the repeated condescension from that female I'd venture to guess she must fancy herself as an authority in the car world, so you would think she would know better than to staple THROUGH a registration sticker. Really ignorant. Additionally, although I think that ultimately the sale price was fair, I'm a little put off by the $200+ documentation fee, and I'd urge you to do some research on that as it apparently does not at all include the cost that you will pay the State for your registration. Oh and one final thing; which I've never experienced with other car buying transactions; my car does not have an inspection. So an additional extra cost and step I'm going to have to take on my own post sale. I'm sure this may be related to the registration or some other explanation, but like I said, I've purchased cars in the past without needing to do that step on my own and it's an appreciated convenience. I had been trying to get a price from Steve Klein in their internet sales department. He would not give me a price, so I asked him to please stop contacting me. I also unsubscribed from their emails. Going on two weeks now and he continues to contact me with automated emails. I've occasionally asked for a price, and he has excuses why the emails always say $0 for the car I want, and STILL won't give me a price when asked. Just on the volume of junk mail I'm getting from Liberty Subaru, and the fact that they will not give me a price without me trekking from Brooklyn to NJ has turned me off to ever doing business with them. I'd rather pay a few hundred more to be treated better. read more

I had an air conditioner issue with my 2019 Forester Sport. Brought in vehicle had it checked out and cold air not cooling car. Service advisor Sareen provided a loaner car since it's summer and very hot. They ordered parts and looked at everything. Took a few days for the parts to arrive. My wife and I recently bought our first car, and I have to say - this dealership is very unprofessional. We expected the stereotypical game playing; good cop bad cop, and other bully-like tactics to be employed, and were not let down. They used every sleazy trick in the book on us. In their defense - I should have come in more prepared to deal with a "used car salesman." But that's not what separates Liberty Subaru from the pack as far as providing the most frustrating experience is concerned. No matter where you purchase a new car, you're always going to leave wishing you paid less, and you're never sure by what margin you overpaid or how much more you could have negotiated them down. I get that. What really drives me nuts about Liberty is how they completely lack customer service. When we first reached out to them as potential buyers, they were constantly in touch about setting up meetings, tours, test drives, etc. Once we bought the car however, I can't get in touch with them at all! When we purchased our car and left the dealership we were told the following three things: 1) We would hear from them within two business days regarding the status of our financing request. 2) They would contact us the day prior to our scheduled pick up to verify that the car would be ready. 3) They would contact us when the license plates and registration were ready for pick up. (I know what you're thinking: I should at least give them two stars because they spared me an extra trip to the DMV, right? Wrong! I honestly would rather go back to the DMV than have to interact with this dealership any further.) Not only did I have to call them to confirm each one of those three things, but it took me around 5-10 attempts to every hear back from somebody. I would call my salesman (whose name I mercifully decided to omit from this review), leave a message, and not hear back. Then I would email him, and not hear back. The only way I would get a question answered was if I told the operator to put me in touch with somebody who is currently at their desk or if I told them that I forgot the name of my salesman. Bottom line - if you want to be the classic sleazeball car salesman...be my guest. But once you accomplish your mission and get the sale, please have the decency to communicate with me!!! read more

Just bought a certified pre owned legacy and I love the car. When I bought the car the tire pressure light was on. They put air in the tire and said if it keeps up to bring it back and they will take care of it. They did exactly what they said... replaced the tire with no problem ... Chris In sales and Dan the sales manager went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with everything. They worked the price even though my credit wasn't great and got me in the car I wanted for the price I wanted... can't recommend this place enough.... Only dealership that would service my vehicle on the brake lamp recall right away. Called the number on the paper and no real help. Every dealer I called told me 1 to 3 weeks even though I told them the brake lights were out. No loaner cars either or was told to pay for a rental myself even though a defect on Subaru's end. So happy with this dealer! They gave me a very fair price for my trade and new purchase, helped me out with an extended warranty, and their service dept has been phenomenal. The guys are very friendly, knowledgable and HONEST!!! My boyfriend is a car-head so he is able to tell me what's serious and what's not. Never not once has Liberty Subaru suggested a bogus repair, the way most service depts do. Also, they will work with my extended warranty to get as much covered as possible without cost to me. I got a 2016 Subaru Forester Premium All Weather Package from this place and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. Ed took real good care of us. The rest of the staff are also very friendly and helpful. They would greet you and ask if you need anything to drink. We would have taken a car from Paul Miller but they just wouldn't budge on price and additional services offered compared to Liberty Subaru. I couldn't be happier having driven a multitude of vehicles in my life from cheap to luxury. This crossover is extremely spacious, has a huge panoramic roof that brings in lots of fresh air, rides great in the bump city roads and gets great gas milage on highways. I drove off with the car the same week as they have plenty of inventory in stock compared to neighboring Subaru dealerships. I even went back to the dealership a few times for certain issues and they resolved them all for me at no additional costs. Definitely will be doing all my oil changes here unless I move somewhere far. read more

My experience after years of good service is not so pleasant. My extended service contract was not used up when I resold my vehicle. I forwarded the buyers (a subaru dealership) agreement cancellation quote to Liberty. After 2 months I called and they didn't have a clue. I e-mailed them another copy. They then demanded a lien release, which I did not get because the buyer paid off the lien. I got a release from Chase and e-mailed it to Liberty, who then demanded an original. I am tired of jumping through hoops, and all for $75.00. I certainly cannot recommend them in the future. read more

I bought a Subaru forrester sport at Liberty. The apps have never worked. While it connected to starlink the starlink app as well as all others would never open, error messages stating no connection, turn on blue tooth, uninstall and reinstall, any other application I tried to open said there was no connection. When I bought the car, my new LG phone was not working properly so the dealer thought that maybe it was the phone. I bought a new galaxy phone, paired it with the subaru which was successful, but the applications still do not work. I went to the dealer again and was told that I had to make an appointment weeks ahead. They don't support a brand new vehicle they sold!!!! read more

The service department at Liberty has always been very helpful and accommodating but my recent experience is the best way to illustrate the point. I had Liberty Subaru install a battery less than a year ago in my Impreza knowing that they have a warranty on it. In December of this year my battery died and I brought it into Liberty service. They tested it and simply recharged it . This Saturday the battery was again dead. I called them after 2 pm seeing if I could bring it in after it was jumped even though they close at 3. The answer was "sure". This time they replaced it at no charge while I waited without an argument or hassle or question. I was back home by 3:30. Went in 4 months ago with my mother so she could lease a car and Jeff Wangerin had us in and out of that place with great APR% and was super thorough about options. We came back 4 months later looking for Jeff and unfortunately he wasn't in, so we got Chris Armentato instead. You're 2 for 2 Liberty Subaru-I also left that same day signing paperwork for my new purchase. Chris asked all the right questions and was super patient. Both these gentlemen were friendly, made you feel comfortable and knowledgeable. I will never go to another dealership again. If you come here, you never have to deal with sleazy, pushy salesman again. Everyone here is a true professional. If you have over 700 credit score and a little money for down payment, ask for one of these guys. The Liberty Subaru team is really awesome. They are super nice, not pushy/salesy, and really try their best to find a good fit for you. We bought a car there eight years ago, moved from New Jersey to New York, and still go to Liberty to service our first car (and now got our second car there last weekend). It was very enjoyable working with John Clarke. He is really nice and funny - and he engaged very well with our eight-year-old daughter (who said she will be back to buy her first car from him). He was very thorough in explaining the cars' features, benefits, and possible downsides for us. My husband and I also feel like when we are dealing with the team at Liberty (Rick, John, etc.), we are being treated with honesty and fairness. That goes a long way with us!
