It's a cold January morning and we came into Liberty Taco to get a quick bite. We were welcomed by a very cheerful lady named Ingris who took our order and told us our food would be served shortly. I ordered the potato, egg and cheese breakfast taco and it was delicious. One was enough for me it was so filling. And if you like your food spicy their habanero sauce is just that. We enjoyed our tacos listening to some lively tunes. Ingris said their lunches are also delicious. When I come back to this area I will come again.
It's honestly so hard to find a good, affordable quick bite in TMC, but I finally found my go-to spot. They have so many tacos to choose from -- tons of fusion flavors, and everything is made fresh to order. I'm not usually a big taco person, but this place completely changed my mind. The prices are amazing, it's super convenient, and there's even plenty of free parking. Love it.
Life, liberty and the pursuit of...Tacos?!?! Liberty Tacos has been a restaurant I've wanted to try for a while and well, the experience was meh. Average at best when it comes to Tacos spots. Located in a shopping center on OST in the Medical Center this quaint little spot boasts pictures and images references Lady Liberty, very charming. It's a cool place for that pit stop for a quick bite. With quesadillas and featured tacos and such as the Liberty Chicken and Loberty Steak taco (which I've been told are crowd favorites) there's enough to choose from. Going with the "favorite" (Liberty Chicken and Liberty Steak Tacos) though tasty, I can't say that I was blown away by the flavor, it was average. Each taco came with fajita like fixins, a touch of Pico and the Protein. The smoke on the Chicken was nice but could have been better with a cilantro lime type of sauce to give it different taste element, but that option wasn't made available, instead it was a mild taco sauce that was anything but mild ( I guess it doesn't help that I'm sensitive to spice). The steak had a bit of a chew to it and didn't give that wow factor when it comes to flavor, but was ok. As for the service, even after sharing that it was my first time, the woman at the counter met me with a rather flat reception, perhaps it had just been a long day for her. None the less the cost of the tacos wasn't bad at about $7 a pop. It's worth a try if wanting a different take on the taco experience. Enjoy!
I absolutely love Liberty Taco!!! The food is so good, I'm craving it now! I come to town once a year for a convention and always stay in the apartments above the restaurant so as you can imagine we frequent Liberty Taco almost daily during our stay!! The vegan options are fantastic and all my non-vegan friends absolutely raved about their other tacos as well.
Liberty Taco has plenty of unique and flavorful tacos to choose from at an affordable price. I've been a couple of times and have tried the kogi, Baja shrimp, and tequila shrimp. Their queso is also filling & a generous serving! Each taco is huge - we ordered 3 each but I could only eat 1.5! The homemade salsa are also delicious. The shop is perfect for casual dining in the med center while supporting a local spot!
This place is such a great local taco place in the med center! I was suprised excited to come try it with some friends!! I got the liberty steak and baja shrimp tacos. My favorite was the baja shrimp! The shrimp were huge and super crispy! The flavors of the sauce, cheese, onions all made for a perfect baja shrimp taco! 10/10 would recommend. The liberty steak taco was also delicious but I felt it did need some of the salsa on it as extra sauce; however, the flavor was definitely there! All in all, I would definitely come back to try some of the other tacos and some queso/guac next time!! Super excited to find a local, affordable taco place! I think each was $4-5ish :-) Also lots of parking in the plaza!
Tacos are fine. Not bad, not great. The menu is interesting so we would return to try others. Barbacoa was good but unseasoned :(
Out and about with the wifey on a Friday morning and we feel the need for some breakfast tacos. So why not try Liberty Taco as we see one while driving. So I get two tacos, brisket, egg and cheese and my old favorite that has never let me down bacon, egg and cheese tacos. At this point I'm really looking forward to my tacos, first because I'm really hungry and second because we're sitting near the kitchen and can hear a lot of cooking noises going on in there. So I'm thinking it's taking almost 10 minutes for my tacos to come out, they are going to be hot, fresh and amazing! Well I guess one out of the three ain't bad. It was AMAZING that these tacos that were just made didn't taste hot or fresh. As proof from my taco photo that I took the cheese on my tacos was not melted at all. So after doing a little more investigation, ie eating my tacos they were both cold! The brisket bacon and eggs looked really delicious and I kept thinking in my mind what these would have tasted like if they were even slightly warm enough to melt the cheese? Why even have a kitchen if not to use its devilish charms to make warm or we can all dream hot tacos! I'm thinking next time if I want breakfast tacos I will go to Taco Cabana, while they might not be the best breakfast tacos at least they will come out warm. Side note-the red salsa rates way better than the green salsa but be warned, it's very watery and you will have water running out of the back of your taco no matter how little salsa you use!
This spot peaked my interest because of the different flavor combinations they have. It's not your classic texmex tacos. You order at the counter and they will give you a number. Seat yourself and they will bring the food to the table. I tried the Caribbean Chicken, Cajun Fish, and Liberty Steak tacos. My favorites are in that order. The Caribbean chicken isn't your classic jerk but the seasoning on that chicken was great! And I loved the pico and sauces on that taco. Second was the fish. It's a very good size piece of fish. The condiments on top were good too. They only put one of those peppers on top and wish they gave me at least 3 to taste in each bite. Lastly the steak taco was plain. I added sour cream and their hot salsa to it to dress it up a little. Head up: they charge 50 cents for everything extra. Extra shredded cheese = charge. Extra Sour cream = charge. I don't like that. Should be able to fix our tacos up the way we would like it without paying extra for every little thing.
I noticed this place a while back on my daily commute to work and just figured it was another cliche taco spot with "exotic" flavors so I never gave it a try. After giving it a try today I've realized, I was right. The service and look of the restaurant is very nice, however, I ordered to go, just wanted a quick in and out. It's a order and pick your own seat kind of place with a chill hipster vibe. Ordered two tacos and queso and came out in less than 10 minutes so that's good. I only stay about a 3-4 minute drive away so food was still hot when i started eating. I ordered the Chicken Tinga and Caribbean Chicken tacos and the regular chips and queso. This ran about $15 and some change The Chicken Tinga lacked any flavor profile and just had a hunk of avocado on top of the taco with none of the other noted toppings. The tortilla was doughy for both tacos and could've used a bit more cook time. There was a lot of chicken, but flavorless. The Caribbean Chicken taco also was no star. With the chicken having a bit more flavor, it did not match the flavor profile of the description. No spice. No jerk flavor (more of a sweet bbq sauce type situation). The mango had no flavor even and lacked sour cream on my taco except a few sprinkles. The only good part about this experience was the queso. Just your typical mid of the road queso that you would expect at a place like this. My chips seemed as if hot fresh ones were put on top of older stale chips. So the best of the experience was also mid. All in all, I could've have continued to pass this place everyday without going in and I would have been perfectly fine.
Great portions, fun taco options, and fantastic customer service. I got way too much food, usually I'll eat 4 tacos if it's from an authentic taqueria, but these are a little less authentic of course (considering they have Thai, Jamaican, etc options) but still delicious and the portions are LARGE as you can see in the pics. Each tray is 1 taco. I didn't get the cashier's name, but the service was the best I've ever had in a fast casual place like this. He took my order, brought out my food, checked on me midway through, and offered to take my trash too. Give that man a raise.
I wanted to like this place, the interior had a great vibe and was very clean. The workers were nice. But my tacos were not good. The potato and egg taco would get 1 star sadly and the jalapeño sausage egg and cheese taco get 3 because the sausage and the sausage was flavorful and a little warm. The eggs were room temp and tasted like they had been made earlier. The tortillas were barely warm and tasted like machine made and precooked to be reheated. The cheese on top was not melted at all. It was really disappointing. The potatoes in the potatoes and egg had no seasoning or flavor and some salt and red salsa perked it up enough for me to eat. Beware that salsa. It is housemade and does taste good but it is extremely watery and will all run down the end of your taco as you eat.
Good service and ambiance. The chorizo egg and cheese taco was almost nasty. There's almost little to no egg in the taco. As a hispanic who loves tacos de chorizo y huevo Im very disappointed. I give it a 0/10. I completely put it down after 2 bites and tried to pick it up again at home but still couldn't finish it. Thats what I get for trying Mexican food on a whim near downtown . The steak egg and cheese taco 7/10. Steak was dry and almost chewy, there was more egg than steak.

I have been coming here twice a week for the past month. Who needs to go to Chipotle when you have a Liberty Taco nearby?! This is place is above and beyond good, way better than any other taco places or fast Mexican food places. I highly recommend the salad bowl here, especially if you normally go to Chipotle for that. Liberty Taco gives you SO much freshly grilled meat, along with a very generous amount of beans and Mexican rice, AND guacamole included! The steak meat is very well seasoned and cooked, tender and juicy. The price is under $10, for a gigantic salad bowl filled! You can't get this anywhere else. I also tried the salad bowl with grilled vegetables, it is equally delicious and filling. I also love the cajun fish taco! Super filling, it comes with two big pieces of freshly grilled white fish, tender and well seasoned. Get the salsa, it is superb. read more

AMAZING!! I truly enjoyed my beef fajita salad bowl. This is my 2nd time eating here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm in a constant turmoil when it comes to be able to eat out because of my allergies. Your establishment is about 3rd one I found that does not put jalapeños or a ton of pepper. Thank you to the 2 young ladies that helped me today along with the young Hispanic male that helped me in June or early July. AWESOME staff!! Today's lunch pick was Liberty Taco because I really need to cross the street more. When I came in it took me a minute because I felt like I did when I walked I to Torchy's for the first time. I had to actually read the menu and see what all the creatively named things contained. I was happy I did because it led to my picks, The Thai Basil and Baja Shrimp. I'm loving this (eating...). I'm writing an update because I returned specifically to have their yummy queso again, but for some reason this time it tasted totally different. It lacked the flavor and kick that I remembered from last time. I was pretty disappointed - hopefully this was just an off day. I also tried two new taco flavors - the Thai basil and citrus pork. While they were good, I think I preferred the liberty steak and liberty chicken I ordered last time. The Thai basil had a bit of a kick to it, however I wasn't the biggest fan of the chicken. The citrus pork was okay, but I think it could have used some more flavor. read more
3.5 stars. I heard the location in Richmond was good, so wanted to try this place since it was closer. It was pretty empty on a Saturday night. I had the kids fajita steak quesadilla and Tequila shrimp taco. The kids portion was pretty big and filling. There was a lot of meat in the quesadilla. The rice and beans was pretty bland. The shrimp taco was okay. Nothing special. The flavors weren't anything memorable. Unfortunately, I don't think this place can compete with all of the other great taco places in Houston. read more

As a foodie, I made it my business to try a variety of tacos on my first visit. I love the play on flavors with those 2. I'm usually not a fan of yellow queso, however, liberty taco made me out a believer. It was very good and creamy, plus the chips were fresh. I'll definitely grab some again. Staff was friendly and gave great suggestions on different tacos worth trying. Great taco Tuesday, only thing missing was a margarita. But I'm an expecting mamacita, so I wouldn't have been able to indulge anyway. *sad face LOL* Overall, see you again next Tuesday Liberty =] read more

Came here over lunch and got the tequila shrimp on corn. It was enough filling to make 2 smaller tacos, and I loved the flavors. I wish the taco would have had more components, as it was a larger type (versus the bite size street tacos), to allow for more flavor depth and complexity. Service was alright. read more

This was my first time at Liberty Taco though I went by it all the time. I wanted a small lunch and thought one taco would suffice. I ordered a veggie taco which comes with rice and beans. You get one tortilla but it doesn't tear or get weighed down with the filling. My only thought is that a veggie taco for $3.50 is overpriced. read more

Staying at a local Airbnb, this place was in the retail area of the apartment (walking distance). Stopped in for a quick grab lunch. They server recommended the black bean burger & it was amazing. I expected a burger but it was served in a tortilla, chopped and topped which was a pleasant surprise as I'm not a huge fan of bread. Very flavorful! The fried avocado on top was amazing. The salsas that accompanied it were all good that I couldn't pick just one, and used all three. It was just enough where I felt full but not stuffed. It was also less than $5. Can't beat that! Service was fast, the server was very friendly. Even grabbed a beer to take home. Would definitely go back to try the other vegetation options. read more

I have been getting tacos here for the last few months and I am mad that it took me so long to try them. I am still a fan of the breakfast tacos! I have been telling everyone I know about this place. I have been eating the summer roasted veggie tacos, I could eat them everyday! Red bell pepper, corn, squash, avocado and Mexican cheese...what's not to love! I pair the veggie tacos with the Caribbean chicken! Really juicy, tender and spicy! As for the salsas, I love the hot option! Service is quick, too! I park in a Med center remote lot and walk over, my tacos are ready when I get there, still hot! The servers are all friendly and keep a clean cafe! read more

I wasn't to wild about this place. I was really craving some authentic tasting street tacos and I thought this place would hit the mark, but not really. Establishment: Nice and Clean and the entire staff wears masks. Also patrons are not able to grab condiments from where the food is served but must ask the staff for whatever they need. Which I thought was great. Staff: Very friendly and helpful when explaining the items on the menu. My server told me the most popular dishes and what she preferred. Food: I ordered the Kogi and Caribbean Jerk Tacos with chips and queso. The Kogi was flavorful and actually I liked it more than the other. It was a nice size and I only had this one for lunch and saved the other for dinner. The Caribbean Jerk was not really the type of Jerk you would expect. It was more of a sweet bbq sauce that the chicken was marinated in. There was also mango pieces on this taco which would have been a great touch if it was real jerk. So I wasn't much of a fan of this one. The queso was actually the best out of everything. Nice spice kick it to it with cilantro to top it off. That was wonderful. Overall the Tacos were okay. I would go back and maybe try different tacos or even the quesadillas. read more

Bad customer service bad very bad ..everytime I come to this place the cashiers /service always have nasty attitudes..I don't say nothing I just continue with my order ..they are very sarcastic and the fact that I waited 20 min for 4 tacos while they sit around and talk is annoying I watched my food come the window and they walked past all these orders and didn't budge for 20 min ..like nobody told y'all to fill the app out if your tired of the place read more

We just had the original Liberty Taco (Richmond location) this weekend and I ordered a bunch of different ones to try - Caribbean Chicken, California Club, and 2 Kogis cause we know we love that one. Welp we tried all of them and the California Club was so delish, we both wanted it again.. which means we were able to make it to the new location for lunch today! I love that this is located in the med center, it's actually located right on the corner of Kirby and OST in the complex that houses Domain on Kirby apartments, Glazed Donuts, FedEx and Tiff's Treats! They took over the old cajun po boy place that used to reside in that location! The restaurant itself looks similar, not much renovations were done, but they did hang some cool/modern light fixtures and art work! The place was not packed around 12:30pm, which meant we were able to order right away and find a table quite easily. The menu is slightly different from the Richmond location and had a "Banh Mi" taco on the board - not sure what else is different but I immediately spotted the Banh Mi and wanted it! I got that one and the California Club and the boyfriend got the California Club and the Kogi - he's not very adventurous and gets what he knows he'll like =) The California Club wasn't as good as we remembered it from the original location for some reason - maybe cause mine was hard to eat cause the piece of fried chicken was so large? The boyfriend thought his chicken tasted a bit greasy this time around. Sad, cause we loved it so much 2 days prior! I did, however, love my Banh Mi taco. The meat was seasoned so well and it tasted like a grilled pork banh mi! Winning!!! The Kogi taco is always good, and it didn't disappoint. The chips and guac was just ok - not enough lime and flavor in it. Though I love that it was served cold cold cold. The tacos were all stuffed full and filling - 2 makes a good lunch and I'm still full as I sit here and write a review 5 hours later. Clean location, quick service - for all the bad reviews about service, I think it's safe to say that they worked out their kinks from when they first opened a few weeks ago! Get the Banh Mi and the Kogi taco, you won't be disappointed! I would definitely give the Cali Club and the Caribbean Chicken another try - I liked them both when I tried them last. The only criticism would be to not make the chicken strip so large, it makes the taco hard to fold up and eat. I like the abundant amount of protein though, maybe two smaller pieces? And maybe a new supplier for the tortilla - I've heard people say it's hard and the boyfriend complains about the tortilla every single time we dine in at Liberty Taco, both locations - so maybe there's a common complaint here? I thought the tortilla was ok but I've had better tortillas that you can buy fresh and cheap at the Mexican store! Great new place for the med center though, and a nice new lunch option for people that work in the area! read more

My boyfriend got the kogi steak quesadilla and I got the cheese quesadilla. The cheese quesadilla was $6, and the kogi steak was close to $12. They were both large and filling. There weren't many people dining when we arrived so it didn't take long for our food to come out. read more

A homey but cool fusion spot that slings tacos that are filling and creative. Similar concepts abound in Houston, but Liberty is cheaper than Velvet Taco and more interesting menu-wise than Torchy's in my opinion. The inside is clean with tile floors, brick facades, and themed décor with a vaguely patriotic bent. The restaurant is counter-service only and the stuff comes out quick. There aren't an excessive number of options on the menu, which I respect. Paraphrasing Ron Swanson, it's better to whole-ass a few items than half-ass too many. My one major knock is that the flour tortillas here aren't great. They're rather thin and often get stuck to the foil if you do take-out, probably because they steam in the residual heat and begin to break apart. The filling, however, is usually strong. The Baja Shrimp, for example, boasts huge craggly-crusted shrimp that are succulent rather than chewy and are topped with fresh slaw and a tangy, creamy sauce. Excellent option that I highly recommend. The Thai Basil taco contains an absurd amount of sweet and chewy stir-fried chicken in a sweet and aromatic sauce. Definitely one of my go-to's. I usually supplement with a cheaper breakfast taco, most recently one with jalapeno sausage, egg, and cheese. Solid but obviously not as exciting as the others. It's not overly cheesy and the sausage is punchy without aggressive spice. Speaking of spice, I quite enjoy their orange habanero salsa, which has a lovely fruity heat to it. Liberty Taco's offerings are affordable, filling, and flavorful. A good place to keep in mind for a quick casual meal. read more

GREAT SPICY SALSA! The space here is new and very clean! The staff seemed friendly and we had no issues. Originally we thought it would be authentic Mexican but I would consider it a mix between that and Tex mex. but whooo that salsa is the perfect amount of spicy!! Dillan had the barbacoa taco, Cajun fish and chicken tinga. I had plain rice, and tortillas. Dillans favorite was the barbacoa; it reminded him of an amazing street taco. The lime especially added great acidity to the dish. Personally I thought the rice was a little bland in spices, but if you eat the chips and salsa together it makes up for it. Overall a great choice! Prices are fair as well. read more

Came here for lunch at 2pm today 10-08-2020 And the place was cleaned the employees very nice and wearing mask .I order a Salad bowl with chicken fajita,The chicken seasoned well and they add lots of chicken.It was very tasteful. read more
I had the chicken Thai, carnitas, and the potato/bean/cheese tacos. Overall they were good but each one had a minor issue. The sauce in the Thai taco wasn't a great peanut sauce. It wasn't flavorful. The carnitas taco was good but way too greasy. Grease poured out of my taco when I bit into it. But it was flavorful and I'd order it again. Whereas these two tacos were stuffed and had a lot in them, the potato/bean/cheese taco had very little filling. But the taco toppings were good. The slaws were tart and sweet and the tortillas were great and tasted homemade. The guacamole was really good too. The employees were nice and the space is clean. Food came out quickly. I'd come back again to try other tacos because others looked good. Overall, I'd recommend trying it out. read more
