Back at Lickity split this year but this time I kept it simple with chocolate vanilla custard twist! You really can get creative here with all the mix in and topping options. Love looking around at all the vintage candy, gag sodas, and more. This would be a great spot to look for specialty candy or purchase a gift for someone. Service was friendly and the line moved fast.

This heat has sent me on a mission to try all of the ice cream shops in the city. I've actually attempted to come here a few times already this season but every time I have it's been super busy with a line out the door so stopping there today in the middle of the afternoon was a good choice. They have a great selection of add ins and diverse menu that also includes coffee drinks, flavored sodas, homemade chocolates and lots of different vintage candy. It's super cute inside with the vibes of an old school candy shop. The service was attentive and she invited me to ask her any questions about the menu. They do use frozen fruit for their fruit options, just as a side note. The custard was a great consistency and it didn't melt quickly. I'll be back!

This was a cute candy store on the interior with chocolate and fudge also. The store does milkshakes and concretes too. We ordered 3 junior milkshakes and it was plenty filling after dinner. I got a chocolate malt with cheesecake and it was amazing! I would visit again the next chance I get!!

What a gem for this neighborhood and for all custard lovers in the region. There's no better place to sample the best custard in the region. If there is ever a neighborhood institution, this would be it, not only for the quality of their custard, but the charm of this whole place, stocking old fashioned candies to unique sweets from around the world. Plus, they make some of their own bakery items, including these delicious cupcakes baked at their Lunt location. Ken the charming dedicated owner started this beloved shoppe 16 years ago in the heart of Edgewater. What adds to the special ambience of this place is that everyone is welcomed reflecting the diversity of customers who come here from families with young children to seniors & yuppies representing the wide range of demographics of the Northside community. Especially as we face these major heat waves, visit this oasis to experience the simple joy of eating perfectly flavored custard from their dark rich chocolate and satisfying lucious vanilla to at least one special flavor of the day. As a resident of nearby Rogers Park, I've been coming here since they opened and witnessed so many children, including my own find happiness in this magical place. Thanks Ken, for sharing your love for custard with the community and choosing our Northside neighborhood!

Very fun atmosphere it takes you back to your childhood. All the different candies from the 70s and 80s. Family atmosphere great customer service smells delicious prices are extremely reasonable.

This is such a cute dessert shop to grab some frozen custard, a shake, or some chocolate. They have all sorts of cute decorations and nostalgic items in their store. I had trouble decided if I wanted a frozen custard or concrete. I decided to go for a concrete since I enjoy milkshakes. It was delicious! Perfect for a summer night

Came here after lunch. I was quite impressed with the nostalgic candy's and novelty items, some of which I haven't seen since my childhood. The place had limited seating and it seemed to draw in a line. Once I ordered, it take moments for me to receive my ice cream. Enough time to loom around. I got some astronaut ice cream to take home, because it was too cool to resist. I opted for a strawberry custard on a medium cone. It really satisfied my sweet tooth cravings. Not too sweet, very creamy and refreshing.

Amazing frozen custard spot. The way Lucy described it is like having a customizable McFlurry. The way to order is you can pick a custard base and either pick a preset "concrete" which come with various toppings already mixed in, or you can customize your own. They also have a monthly rotating custard flavour (it was Mango when I went). They have a whole bunch of different candies and chocolates they sell in store as well. (I bought a few peanuts character themed choco bars too). Ok so to all the 90s kids who's ever lived in Korea, the vanilla custard tastes super nostalgic. It tastes very similar to this vanilla ice cream that's in the shape of a rectangular prism called Excellent (like the literal English word). I was shocked at how much it reminded me of it. I think the texture isn't as similar since this is a custard base but still!! I was super excited lmao I opted for the pineapple topping and they blended the custard and pineapples, so in the end the consistency was actually more like a super thick milkshake than ice cream. I love pineapple flavoured desserts and this hit the spot. I also got to try a bite of Lucy's banana + vanilla custard mix and that was also super yummy. It tasted like real bananas (as opposed to artificial flavouring) and it was an amazing combo as well.

Fun, nostalgic and delicious. Purchased pop rocks, Charleston chew, bubble gum cigs and even some chocolate custard with real peanut butter to dip it in. Cute store.

Super cute and cool custard shop. If you stop in for custard for you're going to leave with more than that, I'm sure. They have all of the old school candies, drinks, and more! It's like a mini Wille Wonka factory in there!! I took my niece and she wanted just about everything her eyes landed on. We decided on a waffle cone with two scoops and sprinkles, she loved itttt!!! She also got some gummy bears to go, she drives a good bargain. The staff were so kind and welcoming to us.

They put so many brownies on my sundae! Fun old-school decor and lots of unique sodas they sell by the bottle. Friendly staff too

The exterior neon signs are all from 1954 and a lot of the interior decor is original from when they first opened, including all the Tiffany lamps. If you prefer to eat in, they will call your name while you wait outside. Typically the wait for a table isn't too long since it's just ice cream. There are a wide array of sundaes to choose from; I got the Margie's famous raspberry hot fudge sundae, which was so yummy; the fudge came in a little turreen on the side and the sundae itself was served in their signature clamshell dish. My husband got a chocolate chip cookie sundae, served in a big glass bowl. There are also shakes, malts, phosphates and other treats to choose from on their menu, as well as a case of homemade candies. The place isn't big and is rather crowded so we got an "eat and get out" vibe from the staff, which made me feel rushed (and who wants to hurry through ice cream?) Overall, though, Margie's has clearly been a Chicago favorite for a long time for a reason. Check them out.

It was pricey but enough for 2 people to share. Metered parking on a weekend evening was easy. My only complaint is that it had a strange, unpleasant smell inside (we were there in the evening during the weekend of April 25th). Also, when I came a few years ago, it had a really cozy, welcoming vibe packed with comfy couches. Now, it just looks like basic tables and plastic chairs, lacking comfort, character, and charm. I'm hoping to return to try the sweet potato latte and the other shaved ices, but I hope they do something about the smell and make the space feel more cozy and inviting.

I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too. The hot fudge was less impressive, but that might be because I had already eaten a Ghirardelli sundae earlier in the day and their hot fudge just can't be beat.
