Never heard of this record store until I learned my favorite Dj / music producer Illenium was doing an "album listening party" We were not only blessed with an early listening to his new odyssey album, on the last track "ur alive" we were blessed with an appearance by the artist himself!!! I also was able to pre order the vinyl since I missed out on the website so thank you to licorice pizza for that. We were also given complimentary slip mats for our vinyls and some unique collectible pins. Friendly staff, wide selection of vinyls, no insane price mark ups. Licorice Pizza Records has undergone a very long evolution to arrive at the point where it is today. For those of us who have been around for awhile, once upon a time, we understand that Licorice Pizza, at its various locations, was the place to go to get records. Today, this is the last standing physical location of this one-time giant of a chain of record shops. That's not a bad thing, that's just the way it is. Located on Ventura Blvd., in Studio City, this shop is a small location with a limited number of vinyl offerings. The size of this current shop has also been diminished in recent times. I only mention this because sometimes in the movies and the media, of times gone past, Licorice Pizza is shown to be an expansive business. This is no longer the case. New customers should probably be made aware of this fact, ahead of time, before traveling to this shop, so they won't be taken back by its size. What Licorice Pizza now offers is a select selection of music geared towards the collector or the person who knows exactly what they are looking for. And sure, you can always pop in and maybe find that music you never heard before and love. Overall, Licorice Pizza has now become a great boutique record store. The staff here are always very nice and happy to help you out. In terms of parking, as this shop is on Ventura Blvd., the metered parking on the boulevard or the two-hour free parking on the side streets is probably your best bet. So, honestly I am not compelled to write reviews often but consistently, without fail, every time I walk into this store, even when I am the only person in there, I have yet to be greeted, acknowledged in any way shape of form by the staff here. Not one word spoken during an entire visit in this store, no "hello", no offer for help, no eye contact. Nothing. As someone that worked retail for many years and even in a record store previously myself, I just have no way to excuse this level of rudeness on a customer service standpoint. The inventory and record selection is average at best but the store is cute and the layout is unique. Sadly, I will not be back for a while until there's a staff change most likely. read more

Worst used LP selection I have ever seen anywhere!! And it's no wonder. They offer you squat if you bring in anything to sell. It's their shop and they can run it anyway they desire, but I can tell you - don't waste your time selling your LP's here. And because they offer the worst price they will continue to have the worst used LP selection that I have seen in my 30 plus years of record store shopping. Nothing here but brand new releases for $35 or more - which is fine, but if you like to browse used LP's this is not your store. And if you are looking to sell - look somewhere else. read more

We have set the dial to the 1970's in the town of Studio City CA. It's Time to dust off your AM Transistor Radio, put on some tube socks & bellbottoms. It's time to put up some Bkack light posters & get some vinyl spinning on your record player. Licorice Pizza is BAAAAAACK! No I'm not talking about the movie. I'm talking about the real record store that inspired the movie. Yes that iconic record store in the malls that was part of everybody's social life in SOCAL in the 70's & 80's is back once again. The store was originally founded in 1969 in Long Beach by James Greenwood. Soon lots of Licorice Pizza Record Stores popped up all over LA. They were known for their staff that were highly knowledgeable in the music industry. Later on it was sold to Record Bar. Then it became Musicland & went national & had 400 stores & eventually turned into Sam Goody. These stores later on had both Music Sections & Video Cassette Rentals & Sales. So if you are a fan of any of those stores then you have to check out the original store where it all began. The name Licorice Pizza seems a little strange for a record shop until you analyze what it really means. The Vinyl is black in color same as Black Licorice. The Discs were circular in nature like a Pizza thus the name Licorice Pizza. One of shops was featured in the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High in the Ridgemont Mall. The new store is not in a mall but located on Ventura Blvd in Studio City with lots of Mom & Pop shops & restaurants on both sides of the street. It's right next to Art's Deli. The store sells New Records, Picture Discs, Vinyl & Used Records. They also have their own line of Merch including their Licorice Pizza Logo T Shirts, Baseball Caps, Beanies, Stickers & Carry All Tote Bags. etc. They also sell Music Group T Shirts like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Prince, Paul Simon, Parliament & many others. They also sell Record Players & other Cool Stuff. They have a CD Jukebox & a Vintage Pinball Machine in here too. It's Lots of Fun just browsing the record bins & crate digging- looking for some obscure tunes. There's metered parking out in front. You can also find some Free Parking on the side streets. What a Fun Record Shop & Definitely A Blast from The Past! Obviously it's not exactly the same as the Original store but just to have the brand back in some form I think fans will be happy. You got to come here twice once in the daytime to shop & once at night. You got to check out their cool Vintage Style Logo signs that light up the night skies of the Valley. It's So Cool! You No Longer have to wait & pray for a Time Machine to be invented because Lots of Fun Stuff is coming back again from Back in the Day! I bought a few clothing items with The Licorice Pizza Logo on them. I Can't wait to wear them to the right occasion. Hands down the worst record store in the entire metropolitan LA area. Their new music section is no different from what you could find at Target or Barnes and Noble. Their used music section is no Different than the junk u would find at a thrift store. Unless you wanna buy some music-adjacent ephemera (t shirts, posters, crappy record players, synths, etc) aka junk, steer clear. If these guys wanna be a record store, they should act like one. OMG! I love this place!!! This was my 1st time visiting Licorice Pizza Records. I was in town from Miami Beach, FL. I love buying records and have been doing so since the 1980s at stores like Peaches, Specs, Rasputin, Amoeba, Tower Records, Electric Fetus and etc. Licorice Pizza Records is all of them combined in my opinion! They have a great selection of music n was amazed at the decor. I bought some records and stuff. The staff was very professional and friendly. Best in LA. New and Used. Great T Shirt Selection and will special order what you need. They also bring artists in shop for mini concerts. Right next door to Arts deli and tons of parking in the garage across the street for a couple bucks. If you love Vinyl, this shop will remind you of how the shops used to be! read more
