For those of you who are missing the "old" Sweet Lady Jane, we have found a splendid workaround. Like so many other cake lovers, we were deeply saddened when SLJ closed their doors. And then we were elated when it was revealed that they would be reopening under new ownership. But sadly, it just hasn't been the same. This was much more of a catastrophe to my wife who has been deeply in love with the Mixed Berry Cake at SLJ for many years. Enter Lido Bakery. Recently, we were driving down Rosecrans towards El Segundo looking for a bakery where we could get a nice slice of cake, when I remembered Lido Bakery. But as luck would have it, our timing was off. It was after 5:00 (or almost) and we knew we couldn't make it on time. This is how we ended up at Erewhon (please see my previous review). This was especially disappointing to my wife as, once reminded about Lido, she remembered that the baker there had originally come from SLJ. So today, we were much more on top of things. And even though we were not in time to get one of the famous cinnamon rolls, we did arrive in time to secure a slice of the desired Mixed Berry Cake. In fact, the baker even insisted on cutting the slice from an undecorated one that he had just finished icing. And it was extraordinary! The berries were so fresh and the flavor and texture of the cake was flawless. Just like my wife's favorite (sans the decorations). There are no tables and chairs at Lido Bakery. Not fancy really, clean but not fancy. This is a place where you come to buy something and carry it out. The USPS Mail Carrier came in while we were there. Picked up a few cookies and was gone in a flash. He was so happy! The selection of cakes in the front case was very impressive but I selected an eclair that looked like a work of (edible) art. It was an excellent choice. Now I have to figure out when I can get back to get a cinnamon roll. It might be a little out of the way but if you are looking for an exceptional bakery, look no further than Lido. You won't be disappointed.
I came by today to purchase a cake for a co-worker's birthday with high hopes from all the great reviews and ended up leaving with a $70 cake that fell apart with every slice. It has potential because the flavor was good but, the layer of cream was thick and solid, the cake was dry so it kept falling apart as I was trying to cut pieces for everyone. Not worth the $70 unfortunately. I'm disappointed to say the least, I really wanted to like this place.

We ordered a white cake with raspberry and white chocolate mousse filling from Lido Bakery, and it was an absolute hit! Everyone loved it -- perfectly moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The cake turned out larger than expected (a wonderful surprise!) and was beautifully decorated, even though I didn't get a chance to take a photo of it whole before it disappeared. You can really taste the quality and care they put into their work. I'll definitely be ordering from Lido again for future celebrations!
I needed a distinctive birthday cake. I checked Lido. The counterperson gave me good recommendations. I decided on a beautiful Almond Rocco chocolate cake. It looked great and tasted even better. Highly recommended.
this past february, i wanted to do something special to celebrate my boyfriend's late mother, alma rosa, on her birthday, 2/28. she passed away 11 years ago, and they were incredibly close. her sudden death was really hard, and i wanted to honor her memory in a meaningful way. when she was alive, they used to celebrate her birthday as a family with sweet lady jane's famous triple berry cake. my plan was to get that same cake for him, but i was heartbroken to learn the bakery had announced it was going out of business. determined to find a way, i started researching and stumbled upon an article that mentioned lido bakery in manhattan beach. to my surprise, i learned they're actually the original creators of the triple berry cake! it's a small, family-owned bakery, and i knew i had to get it from there. the morning of her birthday, i left work (with my best friend as my partner in crime) and made the trip from santa monica to manhattan beach. before heading out, i called the bakery and found out they had just one cake left. i begged them to hold it and raced over. when we arrived, the staff was so kind and accommodating. we shared the story of why this cake was so important, and we were touched to learn the owner herself is the creator of this iconic recipe. the cake was simple yet perfect. the gentleman helping us even offered to write alma rosa's name on it. with a little nudge from my friend, i agreed--and it turned out beautifully. we also picked up fresh red roses & baby's breath on the way home, as red roses always remind my boyfriend of his mother. it felt like everything fell into place--it was truly meant to be. that day was filled with so many special signs that alma rosa was with us, helping to brighten my boyfriend's day. the cake was not only delicious, but it carried so much love and meaning. it's now a tradition--my boyfriend insists we get the cake from lido bakery every year on her birthday. see you in february! thank you, lido bakery, for being part of such a heartfelt moment. your care, kindness, and incredible triple berry cake will always hold a special place in our hearts.
delicious berries and cream cake. the sponge was so soft and flavorful, cream was light and not too sweet. the fruit were all so fresh and placed nicely within the cake. easy to preorder the cake online a few days before my party! really one of the best places for a birthday cake out there :)
Lido Bakery is the go to for all things lovely in cakes and pastries!!!If you want intricately designed slices of flavorful cake- Lido is it. I ordered two slices of cake a few days ago, and this quaint bakery never fails!! I have been here multiple times and this is customer service at its finest- bakery or cakery perfection!!!All bakery items are fresh and tasty, and the owner is so welcoming and takes pride in pastrycreativity, show stopping desserts and pastries!!! The order- berries and cream cake and dulce de leche cake!!! All I can say is try it for yourself, both slices of cake are truly phenomenal!! Both cakes were light, moist, with additions of fruit or a gracious layer of dulce de leche!!! The cost of cake slices are slightly expensive, but hey, you get what you pay for. You can easily get three slices out of each cake slice. Cheers to Lido for your delicious dedication to all things cake and baked goods!!!
I work for Southwest Airlines and a passenger bag unfortunately didn't make it.. once we let her know her bag made it she was so grateful; SO GRATEFUL SHE BOUGHT US A BOX OF THESE DELICIOUS THREATS. Listen Everyone in the office was smiling from ear to ear. I had the chocolate chip cookie, it was so moist! Not to sweet and had a good amount of chocolate chips: We all literally closed the office doors, we each grabbed a goody and listened to "So This Is Love" while we all smiled and enjoyed our sweet treats. Very short lived moment but very enjoyable. Not sure what everything was, but one pasty had cheese in it (I think, and it too was delicious). They all were super moist, not a pastry left. 10/10
This bakery is so magical and all us locals know it! I pop in from time to time to get the Dulce De Leche sandwich cookies and I always leave with much more than those. It's self care at this point!
Stuff your face!!! Best bakery in Manhattan Beach. The cream puffs!!!! Enough said! Ever since we moved to Simi Valley, this place is one of the reasons we go back time and time again! Everything was delightfully delicious.
WOW! Ernesto does it right again. Ordered a Nutella cake for hubby's 60th celebration. It was the wow factor at the party. Not only was it delicious, but carefully crafted. Thank you Ernesto and Lido.

What the what!!!!!!!!!!! Saw that they had the cronut here... smaller version but less guilt. I say. Spoke with Ernesto and he says that we should come up with a new name for it..oh you know for originality reasons. ;D My suggestion +Lidonut ... they can add like special ones like the Berry Chantilly Cake Lidonut... oh my gosh, that sounds delicious! But I also suggested that he added protein powder and call it a "bronut" Either way, these "not cronuts" were the best, upside is I don't have to fly to muggy humid NY for it. YES! Score! Can you say YUMMY any louder? As you enter the door, my eyes kept wandering to the left and right. This place is known for their cakes. I was reading the reviews prior and was intrigued with the cake design. I am a sucker for fruit cakes and it did caught my attention immediately when I saw the fresh berries on top of the cake and inside of the cake. We had called in half an hour to see if they still had the Berries and Cream Cake on yellow cake. She has a small one (6 inch) which only services about 6 people and we have a large family. I asked the lady if they had an 8 inch or 9 inch available and the owner was so nice and said he will have one ready for us in 10 minutes. They bake the cakes in the morning and my noon they were sold out the famous berries and cream cake. My younger sister's birthday is on Christmas so my older siblings preordered the cake for pickup on Christmas Eve. They ordered a 6"chocolate strawberry layered cake which can feed 6-8 people. Before we went to go pick the cake up, I checked out the Yelp photos and was totally excited. When we arrived, the selection wasn't as big as I had thought. There were some tarts, croissants, pies but I wanted a cupcake but there weren't any :(. Anyway, just carrying the cake, it's pretty heavy. The cake was left refrigerated up until we surprised my sister and cut into the cake. Being in the refrigerator the chocolate was pretty stiff so I recommend leaving it out for a few minutes before serving. The layers are nice, the cake dense but moist and the cream is good but I know there isn't any alcohol inside but for some reason it tasted like there was some. It was sill enjoyable but I noticed it as well as my sisters. One of my brothers mentioned that the outside chocolate part of the cake was like a chocolate bar cause it was so solid. The birthday girl enjoyed the surprise and the cake and that's all that matters. But maybe next time we will ask what their most popular cake is and go from there! read more

This review is years overdue. Lido's cakes have been a tradition in our family for over five years. Every celebration the berries and cream cake is a must! My husband loves their chocolate strawberry cake so usually we end up ordering two. All of our friends and family now just look forward to coming over knowing we'll have Lido's fresh and delicious cake. We moved and I still drive 45 minutes one way to pick it up. Beyond the cake is a hard working and caring family running the bakery. They love what they do and don't compromise quality of the products they use and you can tell in the taste. Now that we have been coming in for so many years we are greeted with a hug and my daughter can't get through the door fast enough to choose a cookie. I also am a wedding photographer so I have had more cake in my life than I should admit. Most weddings I shoot the cake gets partially eaten on plates and the rest ends up in the back. They all tend to be dry and I feel like a cheap cake out of a box at home would be better. But you can smell Lido's buttercream when you are feet away and when their cakes are at a wedding 100% of the time the cake is completely gone and the guests are hunting down more. And the local venue's and staff would say the same thing. Just walk in and ask Ernesto for a sample and then you will know what I'm raving about. Oh and their cinnamon rolls will melt in your mouth and are a serious treat. If you have house guests this is my trick to stop in and get some morning pastries and wow them. For Thanksgiving our favorite is Lido's apple pie. It will blow your guests taste buds away. And just for presentation the crust is puffed insanely high and it's filled with more apples than I thought possible. Chocolate Pecan Tart is our Christmas go to. Rich and freaking to die for. Two of my favorite cakes are pictured. My daughter's 4th gnome birthday party and a hand painted 6" cake for our recent elopement. read more

If you aren't a cake person like me... this is THE exception. And when I say THE, I mean the berries cake. So good. So fresh. & I'm so glad I found this place for my wedding. (Kinda last minute if you ask me, which is another plus in my book.) Not only was the cake delicious, but the finish on my cake design was spot on! I asked for an ombré look, through inspiration pictures with a specific finish. He delivered. Ernesto is the man! Such a nice guy. This post is long overdue, but I'm glad it's finally up. Staff is super friendly.. Gentleman at the counter gave me coconut and fruit cake sample because I couldn't decide. Super nice and GENEROUS samples. I loved both!!! Ended up with the fruit to make sure most of my guest won't be disappointed.... But I'll be back for the coconut cake. read more

This place ROCKS!!! I love & always try my best to support family owned businesses. So, I was very pleased to find out that my wedding venue - Verandas (which is also THE BEST) works exclusively with this local bakery, Lido Bakery! My now husband and I went for a tasting, and we were blown away by the flavors AND the customer service. Lido Bakery had the best cake that went with our "love bird" theme (see photo). All of our guests LOVED the cake! This looked like true art, and it was almost sad to cut into. Thank you Lido Bakery for making my wedding look like a fair tale (between you and Be Buds Florist in Torrance). You guys ROCK, and we now have a favorite local bakery for all of our future celebrations!!! read more

I ordered a cake with two days notice for my mom's 60th birthday and it came out great. Truly an impressive cake. We had the party in Manhattan Beach, I don't live there - and thankfully stumbled upon this place. We ordered a berries and cream cake with an ombré purple to pink color scheme of roses on the outside - it was stunning and made for a wonderful surprise at the party. My mom loved it! I don't live near this bakery, but can't wait to order from them again, even if I'll have to schlep down to Manhattan Beach to get it. read more

Lido legit makes the best sweet treats!!! Look no further for delicious, elegant cakes made for any occasion! My family has enjoyed the deliciousness for so many years for birthdays, parties, you name it! My husband and I got our first cake for our engagement party: the hazelnut, custard and cream with layers of vanilla and chocolate cake. We ordered our wedding cake from here and it was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. I've had guests still talk about our cake months after the wedding and they say it was literally the best wedding cake they have ever had. Who normally likes wedding cake? Their cakes are always baked to perfection! Recently ordered the almond roca and berries and cream for my son's graduation party and they were so delicious there was not a single crumb left. I only ordered a couple days before the event and both were available for pick up, at the time promised. It was a smooth transaction and no need to wait in lines. read more

A terrific job on the birthday cake for my friend. A family-owned business (mom, who used to be the pastry chef at sweet lady jane's bakery, dad, and son). Everyone raved about the berries and cream cake I ordered. Really pretty cake decorating, and the cake tasted great (moist and very fresh fruit). They are at least $10 cheaper than Sweet Lady Jane's for the same cake. Tip on finding it . . . located in a little strip mall just west of the manhattan village shopping center. Black sign "Lido Bakery." I called just 24 hours ahead and they delivered a great b-day cake! $42 for a 10" cake. No extra charge for writing. read more

This is a way to satisfy your sweet tooth! My boss discover this when he attend a even and ask me if I can pass by and pick him up a slice. Boy was I surprise this is a true gem. On Wednesday I pick up a chocolate almond cake slice $6.50 I love it just perfect in sugar and moist. I also pick up chocolate truffle cake slice $6.50 for my boss, he said in was a little stale and too sweet "he said its a first".The best part about this place is the slice of cake can be share with 2 or 3 people for $7. The bakery also serve coffee and other drinks choices. The service is great, place is clean, there no seating outside and inside is two small tables. read more

We hit the jackpot finding Ernesto! He is a true artist and very personable. I gave him quite the project... I asked him to blend elements from two photos of owl-themed cakes. He did so flawlessly! The owl cake was soooo beautiful and artistic. My toddler was very excited about the owl on his cake and everyone mentioned how delicious the berries and cream cake was. I did a lot of research trying to find a bakery to meet my needs and Ernesto surpassed the competition. Ernesto was also very accommodating when I had a predicament picking up the cake. He made sure I had the cake in time for my son's birthday party! I was so impressed! I was also intrigued with his personal story of how he ended up in the culinary industry! Working with Lido Bakery to design a cake for our anniversary party was such a treat! I spoke to Ernesto and I described the type of cake I was envisioning for our event. He was able to walk me through all the flavor offerings at the bakery and also suggested that I come in for a cake tasting. We ended up going with the berries and cream option and I'm so glad that we did! It was such a smooth and seamless process overall and the cake looked stunning. I had also asked him to place a few flowers throughout the tiers so the cake could tie in with our theme. Ernesto was more than happy to do so and was able to also deliver the cake in a timely manner! read more

Lido Bakery made an Incredibles cake for my step-daughter's birthday. It turned out perfect and even better than I had hoped!! They were so easy to deal with and the cake was reasonably priced. Most importantly, the cake was delicious!! We got SO MANY compliments and multiple people asked which bakery we used. I highly reccommend Lido and will definitely be using them again. read more
