I'm a dessert person, period. Exclamation! So I was looking forward to our preordered mixed berry pie for thanksgiving. It certainly looked pretty though. As for taste, I took several bites, and I was not wanting for more. To make matters worse, the berries grew mold the following day! Maybe I should have refrigerated it. But if it was really good, that pie wouldn't have a lasted a day in my house! My fave pies in the state are still made in San Diego and it will be worth the drive when I'm craving a good pie. I want to support local, but it certainly didn't please the pie lover in me unfortunately.

Customer service was amazing, we met the son of the owner. He was very friendly and explained about their bakery. We ordered the apple strudel and three chocolate chip cookies! Let's just say, the cookies didn't make it to the car! Hahaha. Love the store set up, very cozy and there's another door to the left as you enter and see a little patio. I honestly wish it was open to customers, it looks like such a nice quiet area to hang out and enjoy your desserts.

We always come for the mini pies when we are in Hermosa! They are always delicious and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. TOP NOTCH!!

Amazingly delicious, fresh, and high quality pies! I talked to the man running the shop and he was so kind. I love how these pies have none of the unhealthy ingredients that you'd get at mass produced grocery stores. I could taste the difference. I am so happy that there are small places like this that are alternatives to mass produced baked goods! I am excited to try all their other pies - I had the mini blueberry and I am obsessed.

I was craving pies one day, and I stumbled upon this local, hidden gem on Yelp, and I decided to give it a try. I arrived a bit too early to get the pies, but I ended up returning to get them once they came out of the oven. I opted for an apple mini-pie and a mixed berries mini-pie to go. They were so cute and gorgeous that it felt almost sacrilegious as I *unceremoniously* devoured them upon getting home. First impression upon the first bite: FRESH. The crusts were still warm and soft, which tells you that you'd gotten a good one. I read that Hermosa Pie and Cake does not use corporate agriculture fruits (i.e. no pesticides), which I appreciate it being as authentic and locally-sourced as it is. I could taste the real flavors of the apple and mixed berries as a result. Taste-wise, the pies are very simple. The apple mini-pie was soft, both crust and fruit. Maybe it's me being picky, but I think it could've benefitted with a dash of cinnamon or brown sugar to enhance the flavors more; otherwise, I found it rather bland. Again, the crust was soft, which led me to believe that it was a bit underbaked; I think it could've used an extra minute or two in the oven to have more of a structure and bite to it. I really dug the mixed berries, though. Sweet and with the ever-so-slightest hint of tart, I preferred this mini-pie of the two. The crust had more support, especially to hold the dense, syrupy fruit afloat. Bravo on that! Service was very friendly and helpful. It's a locally-run shop, and I appreciate the attention to detail of the pies made and the clients greeted. The mini-pies were just a taste of something greater, and I'd be keen on returning to pick up the real deal, i.e. the full-sized pies!

This is the best pie I have ever tasted . I believe it's called a chocolate silk pie. I have never tasted a tastier pie, ever! I thought their blueberry pies were the greatest, -and they are, but, this chocolate silk pie might top those. Not possible, I thought. Ask for Will and tell them to make you a chocolate silk pie. It does not matter who you share this with. They will love you .

I walked into Hermosa Pie & Cake hoping to get a pie for today, however they were all out. (It's expected and understandable) David was helping my cousin and I out, and offered us both a complimentary cookie so that we wouldn't leave empty handed. David's kindness and customer service was heartwarming- I felt it was only right to reciprocate the kindness. The cookie he gave us was very sweet and delicious! I can only imagine the rest of his pies and cakes taste just as good. David mentioned that his pastries are organic which is a plus! I would definitely recommend this place.

Omg! I went in to Hermosa Pie & Cake for their delicious apple pie. They were out so I got the apple strudel instead. This review is not about the apple strudel as I can't try that until this evening after dinner (will update this review at that time)This review is about the AMAZING banana nut muffins that entranced me on the counter. I gave into temptation and brought one home. I just finished eating it and it was spectacular! If you are from the Hermosa area and used to love Tammie's muffins from across the street before they closed, I highly recommend you try this Hermosa Pie and Cake muffin--this muffin is equally delicious!!!! The walnut caramel topping is now officially my new obsession! Update: Eating strudel now! It is just as good as their pie and possibly better super flakey crust sweet tart apples and a perfect amount of cinnamon. I'm really in trouble! This place is right down the street from me.

Mixed berry mini pies, blueberry muffin, peach mini pies, and chocolate strudel.

It was difficult to decide, but I finally decided and ordered an avocado toast and small latte. Because there was only one other person there, the lady behind the counter said she would find me, which she did. She delivered my drink first. Afterwards, she personally delivered my avocado toast with a side salad, served on a wooden chopping block. It all looked good. Well presented. From the first bite of my avocado toast, it was delicious because of the freshly baked bread. A nice, thick dark bread. It was piled on with freshly chopped avocados that kept falling off the bread, topped with pickled radish, tomatoes, and pine nuts. Parking: There's plenty of free, shared lot parking in the back.

DineLA Food & Drink Order ($15): Breakfast Plate: Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes with 2 Bacon Strips & 2 Eggs (sunny-side up) $15.95 Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte $6.95 Server/Bartender: Andrew I have been a long time fan of Kirari West Bake Shop when it opened with much fanfare as a 100% gluten-free Japanese bakery with treats that defy the common undesirable traits of gluten-free goods: dense, dry, &/or gritty. When Kirari West Bake Shop (refer to Review #290) opened sister bakery, Confections by Kirari West, a couple of years ago, I bookmarked them for a visit but didn't get around to it until I saw them on 2026 DineLA. The confections bakery also sits in King Harbor Plaza, but south of its sister between Glaze Craze & King Harbor Spa, serving all-day breakfast, burger, sandwiches, & pizzas with teas, coffees, & smoothies. According to Andrew, KWBS bakes bread for CBKW & CBKW bakes treats & doughnuts for KWBS. Still not quite understanding the difference because KWBS also serves breakfast but in sandwiches & french toasts, & paninis, sandwiches, & salads. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Initially focused solely on baked goods: artisan breads, scones, & Bake-At-Home gluten-free flour mixes, CBKW has evolved their menu to include sandwiches, pizza, quinoa bowls, & smoothies. The DineLA menu offered 3 options, & I deliberated between pancakes & chicken burger. I chose the Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes because they looked fluffy & divine in the owner pic; it includes 2 Bacon Strips & 2 Eggs (cooked sunny-side up). And picked an Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte with less ice for my drink. It was quiet for an early lunch, & a couple of ladies walked in after I finished ordering. The bakery cafe has its cozy charm with a lovely black & white mural on the right long wall that's great for selfies or social posts. There's 4 2-tops & counter seating facing the plaza/parking lot, no restroom (assuming sister KWBS will let you use theirs), & plenty of parking though it'll be challenging during lunch & dinner rush with so many eateries in the plaza. Andrew makes an awesomely refreshing Strawberry Matcha Latte that rivals those from boba shops! Balanced sweetness with earthy, grassy matcha & generous dollops of real, sweet strawberry purée... soooooo good! Though smaller & a bit pricier than boba shops, it's a top-notch drink. My pancakes came shortly after; smells great but looks nothing like the pic, not fluffy, not golden. I love eating pancakes no matter the time of day, & these Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes had comforting notes of cinnamony warmth with random sweet bursts of blueberries. The texture is notably moist & airy, & not reminiscent of typical gluten-free foods which are dry & dense. Typical bacon & eggs, nothing unusual... I prefer thick cut bacon & on the crisper side, but the eggs were perfectly cooked, the whites were set with a runny yolk & crisp, brown edges. It was just enough to satisfy my hunger & quench my thirst. I'm lucky that I don't have any food allergies or restrictions. People with celiac disease require a gluten-free diet, & cooking/baking challenges stem from the lack of gluten for moisture, elasticity, & structure. Customers should know that Confections by Kirari West is a dedicated gluten-free bakery, so there's no worries of cross-contamination. I don't know how Chef Hiro Saito creates this tasty, gluten-free deliciousness here & KWBS... he uses high quality rice flour instead of wheat to create his delectable pastries. On 07/2025, CBKW along with sister KWBS were both designated as a Blue Zones Project Approved Restaurant. This means they're certified to offer healthier, longevity-focused menu options based on plant-slant & whole-food principles like those in Okinawa, Japan or Sardinia, Italy. Quality ingredients... craftsmanship... & sincerity... check, check, & check!! Yeah, I got you in my corner Confections by Kirari West! Food would come out of the kitchen and onto the counter in different orders so within the same party, someone's sandwich would be made before another person's lettuce. We ordered a turkey salad and a Parisian baguette, first off my salad had a lot of old lettuce in it. The fresh ingredients tasted just ok, like low tier super market brand food. From a culinary standpoint, the salad could've benefited from sliced almonds or something crunchy. The Parisian baguette bread was very hard tough, with a decent amount of ham, but not enough spread or cheese.. The cashier did admit that they don't bake their own items instead a "fresh "delivery shows up every morning. I will not be coming back, but I wish them the best.
