A friend invited us here for a Sunday breakfast, and I'm really glad we finally had a chance to visit. Le Pain Quotidien is the perfect place to start your morning before spending the day in Manhattan Beach. The atmosphere is relaxed, cozy, and exactly what you'd hope for on a sunny California weekend. The staff were incredibly friendly from the moment we walked in and made us feel welcome throughout the entire visit. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked, the croissant sandwich was flaky and packed with flavor, and the ricotta toast with prosciutto and peaches was a combination I wasn't expecting to enjoy this much. Every dish looked beautiful and tasted just as good. But the real surprise was the Pistachio Latte. It was honestly one of the best specialty lattes I've had in a long time. I finished my first one during breakfast and liked it so much that I ordered another one to go before heading out to walk around Manhattan Beach. Great food, excellent coffee, friendly service, and an ideal location just minutes from the beach. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Manhattan Beach. read more

I live right across the street from this bakery, and I have to say I've never experienced such an unfriendly place in my life. First of all, they charge quite a lot for coffee, and the only reason I even come here is for their croissants. Almost every day there seems to be some kind of issue with the staff. It's as if they wake up in the morning looking to pick fights with customers. Today was another example. The host started arguing with me, saying I couldn't sit unless I was dining in. I told him I had just ordered and was about to leave, but he kept going off on me anyway. They charge a lot for very little, and on top of that they're rude about it. Be AWARE! FOOD POISONING! Stopped after beach for lunch.By mistake we've ordered prosciutto salad instead of peach toast with prosciutto. When waiter brought it, we told her about it but decided to keep it and try it anyway since she didn't offer to change it. As soon as I tried the prosciutto salad I felt something was off but wasn't sure what. My friend also said that it tasted weird after she took a couple of bites and she couldn't eat it either. We decided to ask the waitress if it's possible to change it after all. The waitress didn't say anything and just took it away, so we assumed she was ok to substitute it. The sandwich came and it had the very bad-looking and bad-smelling prosciutto on top of it. Brown, smelly, not fresh at all. I realized that salad had the same bad-looking prosciutto and it was probably why it tasted so off. I buy prosciutto often and it looks like this once you open the package and forget about it for a month or so and it gets all slimy and smelly - that's how it looked and smelled. It was disgusting. We told the waitress about the issue and asked for the check. To our surprise, she included the bad salad and the bad sandwich even though we only took one bite of each and returned all of it. "Prosciutto is fine, I can't remove anything from the bill" We politely asked for the manager. Manager came and we let her know about the prosciutto and how it smells bad and how it's probably not safe to eat. I used to work at a restaurant. If someone at our restaurant complained about bad food, I would run to the kitchen and check all foods and throw away anything remotely looking bad and would apologize profusely to the customer, remove the food from the bill, give them a complimentary dessert, and pray and hope they don't get sick. Zero apology and she spent about 15 minutes arguing and gaslighting us saying the prosciutto is good, how she can show us expiration dates and receipts and how she ate prosciutto an hour ago. Yeah, that parasitic iceberg lettuce from Taylor farms wasn't expired either when people got served, it doesn't mean it's safe to eat (btw prosciutto salad had lettuce, probably good we didn't eat it!). And you have to be especially careful with cured meat. The expiration date is good. So what? Maybe it wasn't refrigerated well? Or something else happened? How do I know why it stinks?! We were shocked! She disregarded our concerns for food safety and wasn't going to remove anything from our bill (gave us a discount though, for the poisonous food we returned! so nice of her!). That's the first time in LA I paid for food I didn't eat! We just got tired of gaslighting and decided to pay and go. Now, it's been 4 hours, and I'm chugging pepto Bismol because my stomach hurts, still hungry but can't eat because I feel nauseous, and I pray to all Gods I know I didn't get food poisoning because I have to travel tomorrow. Terrible day, got sick and gaslighted. Registered on yelp today just to warn others. Never coming back and telling everyone I know how unsafe it is. They don't know or don't care about food safety! I personally believe that this should be 5 stars because wow. Me and my family come here every weekend and we always get the best service ever, all the servers are so welcoming and friendly and we always come in the earliest of mornings. Their whole menu is so welcoming including calorie counts as so little places do this! Nothing unexpected here. What makes this place a bit nicer than your average Le Pain is the ocean air... get there early, snag a table outside and have your coffee while ALMOST seeing the ocean. You can definitely feel it though. Still not a fan of drinking coffee from an actual bowl - it gets so cold so fast - wish the chain would stop that practice. But service is fast and friendly. And watching this beach town come to life before your eyes is a great way to start the day. read more

Met a friend here for a late breakfast. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit at one of their many outdoor tables. They have plenty of large umbrellas so It was was nice to sit in the shade. Although I was tempted to get one of their pastries, we both decided to get healthy options. I had coffee and the organic steel-cut oatmeal with fresh berries and milk while my friend had the oatmeal with honey, walnuts, banana, maple syrup, and milk. In retrospect, I wish I had asked for a little honey for mine! Service was great! They didn't even mind that we sat at the table for a long time -- we had a lot of catching up to do! The friendly host/waitress, Priscilla, greeted us at the host stand quickly. She sat us inside at a table that could accommodate as much as 12 guests. But there are many sizes of table available. But very pleasant was the fun "dessert-ish" options. We selected from many types of dishes to try as much as we could. Cute little pastry/coffee shop located a short walk away from the beach. There is a lot of seating available, both indoors and outdoors. You can choose from a variety of pastries or heartier food options, and of course, they have a full coffee/tea menu. Very disappointed with our experience. Despite the restaurant not being busy, we waited quite a while to be seated. After being seated, it took some time before our waitress acknowledged us. She eventually took our drink order, but my macchiato was served in a small soup bowl that was cracked inside. I had asked for water at the time she took our drink order, but it was never brought until after our food arrived--and only because I had to ask again. I ordered the avocado toast with an over-easy egg, but the egg was definitely not cooked as requested. The waitress only came back to our table once after dropping off the food. Poor service. Food not right. I ordered a simple grilled sandwich of ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard. What I got looked like the kitchen made frisbee shots of ham and cheese. It was half off the roll. No pickles which should have been cooked with it and no mustard. Our waiter never checked back, but I flagged another who said it would be remade. I asked for more water as my glass was empty. 10 minutes later the remade sandwich appeared and then she went to get the pitcher for water. During our whole meal we noticed our waiter was engaged chatting at another table. He would not even look towards us so we could flag him. We allowed some time, but after nearly 20 minutes we gave up. Went inside to pay walking right past the waiter. He said nothing. I felt bad leaving a $2 tip but service was absolute terrible, initial food presentation was disgusting, and a problem. We shall never return and if you go, be warned. read more

The good: Plenty of seats! I got a baguette and some sparkling water here that was a part of my picnic package thru Amazing CO. The shop was super quaint with a large covered outdoor patio area. The interior was European-esque and I felt transported to Europe. I believe they're a Belgian bakery. I've been to Belgium before but don't recall how bakeries were there. They're located in a small shopping area next a few other cool shops. You can park for free in the parking garage next door. The workers that helped me were quick and friendly. The clientele seemed bougier. I'd love to come back to try more of their sweet baked goods. The bad: The baguette was good but wasn't texturally the best I've ever had. I've been to this restaurant many times and honestly, it's just ok. There's plenty of seating and a nice breakfast menu. My problem is that the service is always spotty. There have been times when I've had servers who were really on top of it and other times when we would just be ignored for a long time. Their omelettes are always good and it comes well presented. Their side salads always feel dry for some reason if that makes any sense. I think it's the spring mix they use - it tastes like it has absolutely no life in it at all and has been sitting in a giant walking refrigerator, just waiting to be put out of its misery. I don't know how else to describe it. Beyond that, they have nice coffee drinks. I just wish that I could leave the restaurant feeling like I was satisfied and like it was money well spent. I have been a fan of Le Pain Quotidien since they came to the US. We frequent the one in Manhattan Beach mostly, for its location, and great outdoor patio. Today we had a negative food experience. I had a craving for French toast, which I have not previously ordered at Le Pain. At the end of the meal, my husband and I commented that we were surprisingly disappointed; it wasn't until later that I realized all things that went wrong. They charged us additionally for blueberries even though the menu description clearly states that it included blueberries. The amount of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, and a few blackberries) was frugal even with the "additional" blueberries. Second, the bread did not appear to have been soaked in an egg mixture as it was dry; the exterior of the bread was delicious. The French toast was served with a modest amount of maple syrup, mostly drizzled around the exterior of the plate. We asked for more syrup, not thinking we would be charged additionally for it. So we were charged additionally for items (specific fruit that's identified as part of the dish, and maple syrup.) The Chantilly cream was delicious. The pumpkin latte tasted neither of coffee nor pumpkin. Our bill for 2 French Toast orders, 2 hot drinks, one orange juice, plus tip totaled more than $80. Why didn't I return the French toast? I don't return items unless they are truly terrible. We were engaged in conversation and hungry, so the totality of the above didn't become obvious until after we left. We expect a well-prepared meal (not outstanding) without additional unusual charges. Yes, I should have noted those, but the restaurant should provide a meal that is properly prepared without the customer telling them (the bread wasn't soaked in an egg mixture.) read more

Whether you want brunch or lunch or something, Le Pain Quotidien can provide for you. If you want mindblowingly good food, maybe try a different place though that may be tricky in Manhattan Beach. Anyway, breakfast sandwiches, bowls, and coffee are the main attractions here. Nothing stands out about them but at least the quality was decent. I probably enjoyed their pastries and coffee more. So while nothing was wrong with my meal here, nothing was fantastic about it either. The convenience of being near Manhattan Beach and the pier is its strongest selling point and the overall pleasant vibes. read more

The baked goods and bread are delicious but this review is for the smallest portion of a chicken Cobb salad I've ever received in my life. For $20 this was enough food to feed a rabbit and had 2 pieces of dry chicken and molecule sizes of cheese and bacon. It is false advertising and when I told the manager, he was quite awkward and rude about it, saying it's true to size. It's clearly not and the portions here should be bigger for the price you're paying!! read more
