The food is delicious and it's a really good value. The owner of Lido Bakery worked at Sweet Lady Jane for 16 years and it shows. But it's a lot less expensive than Sweet Lady Jane. I've been here multiple times and gotten a variety of cakes and pies and they're all very good. The bakery closes at 6PM, so you can't go there in the evening. read more

Last year while visiting my mother-in-law we bought a fabulous cake from Lido Bakery for her birthday. This year, on our annual pilgrimage from northern California, we ordered a mocha cake while somewhere between Coalinga and Kettleman City. When we came to pick it up this morning, it was waiting for us in the large cooler next to the door--seven layers of mocha deliciousness covered with chocolate like a giant truffle. We also decided to split a flaky cinnamon roll and have a couple of espresso drinks, the perfect "visiting-the-in-law" breakfast. We chatted with the woman behind the counter as she juggled handling phone orders and counter orders while remaining attentive to us--and she comped us on the coffees. We both observed that this kind of personal touch is what separates successful small independent businesses from the larger corporate ones. Very disappointed today at the customer service from Lidos Bakery. I called in advance and spoke to Ashley to reserve a cake for my husband's 36th birthday. I went to pick it up and they found the order but no cake. They said they cut it out for samples. At this point, I'm trying to keep calm since it's my husbands birthday and he is waiting in the car, as we are heading to celebrate. They promised they would have another ready in 5 minutes. I checked in 10 minutes latter and asked if they realistically can finish a cake in 5 minutes since I had to head in traffic to the actual birthday party. 15 minutes latter still no cake, I told them I could not wait and needed to leave. When I told them this the older Latino lady gave me an attitude and said "fine let her leave. " I feel Extremely insulted not only did I waste my time driving to the bakery, they sold my cake or cut the cake up for samples and in the process was insulted. What a waste of time in this place. Their cakes might taste good but what good is it if they won't make it or have it ready or cut it up for samples. In conclusion, if you want to be insulted head to Lidos Bakery. If I could give them ZERO stars I would. Such a waste of time an energy with this business. read more

Great bakery! I needed some mini-cupcakes made with carrot cake to take for a hostess gift. They didn't have any made but very nicely said they would bake some for me and a couple hours later I had the perfect hostess gift! (which were a big hit). I'd known for a long time that I wanted LIDO Bakery to do my Wedding Cake; everything they do is so yummy! We wern't interested in the tiered cake with plastic figures on top, we just wanted pretty, festive and (most important) delicious. When my fiance and I went to taste the cakes prior to choosing one, we loved them all, but our favorite by far was the Italian Rum. It is a yellow cake with a mild rum flavor - not overpowering at all, just perfect - very rich but not overly sweet! And it is so moist! It has 3 layers of filling - 2 of custard and a middle layer of exotic Italian chocolate cream that is exquisite! We had Ernesto put raspberries in one of the custard layers. We asked for cream cheese icing on the top with the beautiful fluted design on the sides made of whipped cream icing. He put 3 rows of plump fresh raspberries around the outside rim at the top and piled the center of the cake with huge curls of shaved white chocolate dotted with raspberries and sprinkled with a little cocoa powder and powdered sugar. It was absolutley gorgeous! Ernesto is such an artist! He put sliced almonds around the bottom reaching about a thrid of the way up the cake. We served it with an almond flavored champagne that made an amazingly wonderful combination! Since we had a Christmas Wedding (Dec 19th) we had poinsettas for decoration and the white icing with dark red raspberries next to the dark red poinsettas was like a picture out of Homes & Gardens magazine! We had a small reception - we were expecting 32 people and Ernesto told us the 10" cake which normally serves 25 could be made to serve 32. The 11" normally serves 35 and the 12" serves 50. The cake is very tall as well as dense, but very moist. He showed me how to slice it so the slices stayed intact and pretty. After my "lesson" on how to slice it I realized that, to me, the slices were modest and I decided I wanted to be able to give very generous slices even though we were serving dinner. So I told Ernesto we wanted the 12". Can you believe he actually tried to talk me out of it? (That takes integrity!) He thought we would have too much cake! When I first saw the finished cake I thought he might be right. The 12" does not count the icing - it was a huge cake, on a 16" round white cardboard, requiring an 18" platter. But as it turned out, I am so glad we got the 12"! Five of our guests didn't make it , so we only had 25 and yet we didn't have a crumb left over! The cake was the hit of the reception! Everyone loved and raved about it and asked where we got it! I had requests for slices to go home to family members who couldn't come and requests for seconds, until we ran out! My husband's big regret was that we didn't have any left over to take home for ourselves! He said we will just have to order another one for us! We were so pleased with everything about our experience at LIDO. Start there and you won't have to look anywhere else! Ernesto accomodated everything we wanted and he was such a pleasure to work with! The 12" Italian Rum cake with lots & lots of extra raspberries came to $120.00 (no tax!) and was worth every single penny! Ernesto exceeded our expectations in every way - we could not have been been happier! Oh yes, almost forgot - I saw that one of the reviews here on Yelp recommended Torance Bakery over LIDO, and I have gotten cakes and pastries from Torrance before. That's why I got my Wedding cake from LIDO! Torrance is very good, but LIDO is better! read more

A great find in the South Bay. I was looking for a place to get my mom a Mother's Day gift last year and searched over the web for 'the best South Bay Bakery' and Lido seemed to be the go-to place. I ordered the infamous Berries & Creme and everyone loved it. I have since gone back for teriffic Lemon Bars and other pastries and am getting another Berries & Creme cake for my mom's birthday this year. Great personal friendly service. While their prices may be a little high, you get what you pay for; so greasy shortning frosting like a pre-made cake doesn't exist, plus you get fresh fruit. The Berry Cream Cake and the Almond Rocca Cake were the BEST cakes I've ever eaten. Layers and layers of lusciousness in both. Their frosting is divine. This place has total pride of ownership that is all to rare these days. Ernesto asked what I thought I wanted, helped me specially design a cake to maximize the richness for my wife, and actually tried to talk me into a smaller cake once he learned how many people would be attending the party. The result, a chocolate cake heavy on the dark chocolate was outstanding and, as predicted, we had enough leftover to send folks home with a slice.
