Life Deck had done this deck 6 years earlier and it had held up very well especially in the direct sun with no yearly clear coating. Robert came out and gave me a price while explaining the process and he was professional and personable. It's an interesting product, which is the only reason they get 2 stars, but Life Deck did a poor job with the execution. I don't want to say that I was misled, but the finished product failed to satisfy some of my requirements... which I had discussed with my Life Deck sales rep. Within a year the sealer had completely faded away. Overall, it was a fairly disappointing investment. I've since had a different decorative concrete design company refinish and reseal my pool deck. The results and warranty are considerably better than what I received from Life Deck. read more

Alex competed our patio job today and we have to say we are very pleased. The concrete was cracked badly and had several poorly done finishes when we purchased the house. Alex worked his magic sanding, troweling and blending the cracks into a great pattern and applying a finish that makes it look like stamped cement. It even blends with the flagstone and boulders we added to our new landscape job. Everything from start to finish was well done. read more

My husband and I built a home with a San Diego remodeling builder company, and subsequently we sustained a fairly bad leak from one of our decks. The builder took a couple of tries to get it fixed and in the process needed to remove an entire door and side window. At that time I noted something wasn't right at the threshold having been through a leaky deck in another home. After cleaning the large windows on the other deck I noted the water coming up from under the tiled surface we had chosen. That's when I noticed that over half of the door track weep holes were buried below the tile. That led us to find someone who could do the job properly. After searching for a while and recognizing we would probably have to have the tile removed and go with another deck surface to free up the weep holes, I contacted Jeff Marshall through Life Deck. From the first meeting, we knew we had the right person. Jeff is a total professional and completely knowledgeable about correct deck construction. He discovered that not even door pans had been installed under all our deck openings. This is a major building defect. With Jeff's knowledge we are in the process of the remodeling company completely tearing up our brand new home. We had to have all our doors removed on two decks. That was 1 set of French doors, 2 sets of single doors with side lights, and huge sliders 16 ft long. Stucco was cut out all around the openings and damages to interior around doors. Also stucco had to be cut out the complete perimeter of the deck pony walls. Siding had to be removed from the house, and all tile removed from decks as well as all prior waterproofing. All old damaged flashing was removed, and lower section of wood look alike tile from architectural pillars. If you do not want to live through this - or find out later you have rotting and moldy sub floors and lifting deck surface, then please do yourself a favor and choose a life deck surface where you can have an individual like Jeff Marshall have it done right. In the building industry, it is so hard to find someone with the integrity and knowledge Jeff has. read more

We were in the process of retiling two balconies on our home that were improperly sloped (for water run-off), and discovered that rain water had damaged some structural beams. At great expense, we replaced the beams and needed an application to protect these new beams going forward. Jeff Marshall from Life Deck Coating came right out and ascertained what was necessary to protect the replaced components of our home. He was extremely professional answering all of our questions. He designed a unique system to carry the water from our balconies away from the house.The high-end materials (they used copper for the flashing) were delivered prior to the start of the job. I had them coat my pool decking area about 7 years ago. Within 3 years they had to come back and redo several areas that were just breaking apart. That kept happening and after the 5 year warranty was over, I was going to have to pay, (at least labor), to have it fixed. Apparently this stuff doesn't do well on ground that is not perfectly level and that ever has any standing water, (from slow drainage). I wish I had been told that in the beginning! It looks absolutely horrible now, and I could easily just keep breaking more pieces off and making the damaged areas bigger. Really all it takes is walking on it. After 20 plus years, my rear deck rotted and had to be removed. I called several deck coating companies for bids and decided on Lifedeck. Turned out to be one of the best home improvement decisions I made. Since I couldn't settle on a replacement design for the new deck, Jeff Marshall, the project consultant, and all around great guy, had to provide 3 different bids! After the deck was built, (6 months after the first bid-talk about patience), the installation of the coating began. Midway through the project, I threw another monkey wrench into the mix by deciding to change colors. The crew was accommodating, and Jeff helped by bringing sample paint and making recommendations. The deck is now complete and it looks great. There was an issue with too much moisture not allowing the paint to dry properly and Jeff, himself, came out to touch it up. Overall excellent customer service, from the crew to the in-house staff, and, especially, Jeff Marshall, who went above and beyond to ensure I got the deck I wanted. After 3 tries at doing a deck coating I found the product is not as presented. The fading and cracking on all 3 decks is awful. We installed life deck on our new home construction. It cracked and broke into pieces after 5 years, we had paid them to re-coat our entire deck, after 18 months it is cracking all over again, I called them to ask about warranty and they informed me there is no warranty on repairs. They re-coated and colored the entire deck. I would not call that a repair.When I questioned their warranty policy's the sales person would not return my call. I would never recommend this company to anyone, the name Life Deck is a serious stretch. read more

We've just finished the second of four projects in remodeling our Point Loma home with Life Deck and I'm delighted with them all. The master bed and bathroom especially, has turned out exactly as I'd hoped, even though complications arose and revisions had to be made. Most important is the fact that the company was 100%reliable-- they were here when they said they would be, they took care of problems that arose in complete support of the quality we were looking for, and they were delightful to welcome into our home over the several weeks they were involved. In some ways though, the biggest relief and delight is the artistry with which they completed a complicated, unusual project. From the moment Todd, the project manager, met with me and my husband, he worked to move in the design direction we wanted. When Vince took over for the actual installation, I was nervous because he hadn't been there for the original conception of a master bedroom floor that flowed directly into the shower, up the walls and onto the counter top with specific organic color and design elements that were really important to me. I was soon more than relieved-- Vince already "got it" from excellent communication with the manager, but as we developed an ongoing conversation as he worked, it was clear I was dealing with an artistic craftsman who had the same high-quality and creative expectations I did about the project. I had an idea in mind that Vince was able to bring to life, and the results of each element turned out even better than I was trying to explain.
