This place USED to give good massages. I have been coming here for years when it was located on Brookhurst. This review is for visit last night. It was a rushed and semi horrible massage. She kept walking back and forth which limited my massage time. The lady has gross cigarette smelling hands. I think she sprayed nasty ass cologne to mask the smell or it was the blanket. I asked for medium pressure and to focus on my shoulder, right arm, right leg and lower left hip area. I got a mixture of hard pressure and medium. I also came home with a bite on my shoulder. Maybe the massage area, blankets and towels don't get a good cleaning. People come here to feel relax. If we exit not feeling refresh and paid for the service, then there is no point in returning to this establishment. The day after, I am experiencing tenseness and soreness. I came in trying to improve my overall health but massage here did not help. I shouldn't have tipped her $5 but I'm a decent human being. Sadly, you lost a customer. read more

Used to love Brookhurst, a friend brought me & I went quite a few times. Was really worried about the new (to me) location, it's even better. I had a good lady I would see again. Receptionist fills out a card with you, hard/medium/soft pressure, circle body areas to focus on. After asks if you had a good experience, let's you know the masseuses schedule if you liked them, very professional and low-key. There's a table next to you for items, I took in only my keys, phone (silenced) and the money to pay. I asked for a non-smoker, just in case, I'm really sensitive to it. They were really cool about it. Also my medium pressure wasn't enough and she expertly adjusted. Checking to see how I was. Even as long as it's been from Brookhurst , I recognized the techniques as consistent. Say something if you need to during, they happily adjust. If you need more time on an area, they'll listen. I NEEDED a massage, and couldn't spend a lot. This is really worth it. You're going to need to tip $10 for a one hour $25 massage (I added a couple more) It's not ready a tip, maybe that's the closest description that translates? There's a preference thing (cultural?) to pay directly, rather than trust the company. I know it seems weird to us. It's basically a $35 massage, with an opportunity to give $10 of it directly to the masseuse, as a thank you and to reassure the customer that they're properly compensated. It's still a deal. I'd like to try the ninety minutes. They have additional options. The open room feels safe and more comfortable than if it was individual rooms. The great set up is just a few chairs in each partitioned area. No clothes off, but lifted back of shirt and asked if she could unlatch my bra back a minute, was no weirder than doing it on the beach, if you've ever done that to avoid a tan line. Just say no thank you if you'd rather not, but I know I got a better back massage without the strap in the way. A guy I probably wouldn't have. I wore a tennis skirt with built in shorts and a sleeveless lose top. Shorts & tank would be perfect. Everything stays on. The end is a cup of hot tea or water, did not rush me at all, offered a second cup of tea & told me to take my time. It's helpful to transition back to have that minute. I am really sensitive, allergic to everything and break out easily so I fully anticipated a reaction to the lotion or oil or whatever. No reaction! My skin was fine, better even the next day. I can't wait to go back, I really needed not to waste the money on a disappointing experience and it was awesome. Trying the longer time next. I wanted to write a comprehensive review because reading through these, I almost didn't risk it. Even with positive past experiences. Wasting even that much money right now would have been upsetting. Well, I don't even know where to start... Came from a long flight and decided to treat my back with a massage... Checked this place on yelp and just went to see. When I arrived, a lady at the desk greeted me and asked me if i had an appointment to which I answered no. She then proceeded to tell me it's $20 if that was ok. I said sure... She then said is a man ok, to which I answered no, I would prefer a lady. She said wait here and left behind a curtain 2 mns. Came back and said ok, it will be 10 mns waiting... I said ok. 5 mns past and she came and got me, took me back and placed me on a chair.. Waited 5 extra mns and a lady came. The experience began without a greeting from the person, to which its fine.. Didn't come for their sense of greetings ... And from the get go, the lady started on my head, but was breathing so heavily, that she was blowing her not so fresh breath over my face... And ruin the first half of the experience. I asked for strong massage, but received gentle and soft touch. Was too afraid to ask for stronger strokes as i was already turned down by her breath and lack of communication. "She did her thing, didn't feel a thing" would be the title of my experience She had place a towel over my eyes from the start, but when she went to get something i moved it up slightly to be able to see a little to confirm what i had expected, a totally absent person doing the massage while gazing at the dark room , looking afar off to I don't know what.. She probably was thinking "what am I doing here being a massage person...? I could have been married to Georges Clooney, being princess, or own my own business.., but instead i am here massaging people..." At the end, even though I wasn't satisfied with the service, gave her $10 tip as I felt bad for the lady to which she didn't even say thank you.. I recently came back here for massage after COVID-19 and was pleasantly surprised. The usual masseuse that I had was gone but owner was able to provide a very good replacement masseuse. They include hot stone now as well. I'm very pleased that owner/management are concerned for their customers and community safety. I noticed a sticker at front counter which I have attached, but it states that the establishment is tested for Covid periodically. Of course, there's no guarantee that an individual will not get Covid, but it says that owner/management cares enough to have all staff test for it. I thought my friends and I were going in for a relaxing massage, but the events that occurred were far from that. I'd like to preface this review by saying that If you're willing to pay a minimum of 40$ for a funny experience, by all means get tortured at this place. If not, steer very clear from it. We all went in for said massage, told the masseuses that a medium massage is good etc. None of us got a medium massage, whether we woke up the next morning sore or barely felt the massage at all, it was NOT medium. On top of that, massages are $30, why on God's green Earth would I tip the masseuse FIFTY PERCENT. LETS BE REAL (They demand a tip). Basically I paid 40 dollars for someone to stroke my neck with their fingers and call it a massage. Was it funny, yes for sure. Was a it a massage, no it wasn't. I walked out of that place frankly a bit traumatized and there's no other way I can put it. All I really have to end this with is if they can truly make you fall asleep they deserve that ridiculous tip, and if not (which they most likely won't) don't go, or tip 5 dollars and call it a day. This place has gotten horrible overtime, the last 2 massage I've gotten the dude was walking and wondering around and then would comeback continue massaging me very vigorously like he's upset with the world and his profession trying to hurt me, then he wanders off again, as a result I had back pains instead of coming out feeling better. The massage was okay. Nothing to rave about. I got a 90 minute massage for $37 and tipped her $10. She had the audacity to tell me I tipped her too little and demanded for more. I then gave her $15 instead and she still was unhappy. She pulled the money out of my hands and rolled her eyes. Then proceeded to speak in Chinese to her coworkers about my tipping. To my understanding, a tip is based on satisfaction of service. I also understand that it should be 20% of the total bill of the service. If there is a set policy of tipping a certain amount, then that should have been said to us at the front desk or post up a sign stating a suggested tip range. Very unprofessional. This being said, this particular place is markedly better overall than the multiple other massage houses that dot the Westminster area. So, if I'm grading on a curve, in this particular case, it's with good reason. Now, about the actual massage. Mary and Nancy, respectively, are the two best 'massage therapists' at Life Reflexology. And, they are generally stronger, and more thoughtful about the massages they provide than the standard Bolsa 'massage therapists'. If I have a negative-ish commentary, it's the rushing that comes at the back-end (last 15-minutes, or so), as the rush is on to finish up. When rushed, it makes for a generally frenetic and wholly unpleasant / unfulfilling experience. When time is taken, the massage is a-okay - when not, not so good. RECEPTIONIST YELLED AND CHASED ME FOR NOT TIPPING. When I walked into the dark room, the lady was sleeping and the receptionist had to wake her up. You are able to tell she was not trying at all during the massage and at the very end she was elbowing my shoulder blades that left me bruised. Love this place. It has become one of my "to dos" when visiting my parents who live nearby. I've had several different therapists. Each has been excellent. For $20 for one hour, I visit whenever I can. The best way to get a good massage is to speak to the host at the front desk. Tell them what you want (light, medium, or strong), where to concentrate (legs, back, neck, etc), and whether you prefer a male or female technician. If you have questions or need a recommendation, talk to the host. They know the technicians and will help you make a good choice. Although reflexology has the reputation of being a massage that focuses on the pressure points on the feet and hands, please note, this is a body massage. You can have a foot only massage, but you must request a foot-only massage when you speak to the host at the front desk. For those who are modest, a technician of the same gender may be best. A full body reflexology massage is not dissimilar from a, "enhanced" TSA pat-down at the airport. The massage is given over your clothing in a common room, but the technician may reach around/under the shirt collar to massage the neck and upper shoulders, as well as massaging the full leg and upper buttocks. I'm female and have always had a male technician. I didn't find the massage uncomfortable, nor did I feel vulnerable. The male technicians are very professional, but others may be more comfortable with a female technician. As another post mentioned, wearing loose clothing (e.g., sweat pants) and a tank top may be best, but I have gotten a massage immediately after dinner (at the near by Sagami Tei, a Japanese sushi and teppan) wearing a sweater dress and heels. I think the inside decor with the bamboo and waterfall is so relaxing and appealing. They did a great job. Some other places I have been to they talk loud to each other. These people are very professional. I see many people are on here tipping $5. These people work their butts off. I at least make sure I tip $15. Yes it's almost what I paid for the massage. But they make their income on tips not the $9 per client they are paid. So imagine having to wait for clients to come in. It's not like they're paid hourly. Some people really get under my skin. Just got home from my very first massage ever; chose this place because an old co-worker recommended it. I had purchased gift certificates for my best friend 2 years ago and we finally decided to give it a shot. I was glad that they still took the really old cards. A point there. The receptionist was very nice and warning my welcomed us. She asked what our focus points were, how deep we wanted our massages to be. We waited about 10 minutes before being brought back. They brought the two of us to a separate room to the left of the entrance to the massage area. I thought this was nice, maybe they just ran out of space in the main area. Anyway we were glad to be isolated. Knowing it was my first time, I was very anxious and thought I might be ticklish so I was glad to not be bothering anyone. We're pretty comfortable and trusting so we both removed our blouses and bras, no biggie. Loved that I got my head massaged. Every other part of the massaging experience was pretty good. I have nothing to complain about his hands. My roommate was ticklish at her feet and she said her guy tickled her on purpose, jokingly. Okay, no complaints about that but fair warning if you might find that uncomfortable. She didn't. My guy seemed to take his time a lot more than hers'. He left the room maybe 4-5 times. That was off putting. Being naked from up top under the sheet was alright - no peeks or shifting of the sheet on purpose. Appreciate that. BUT, once we were leaving, my guy followed us out and seemed to have asked the receptionist to make sure we tipped. She asked, I said sure. I didn't have any less than $2 in ones and an hundred dollar bill. I asked her to break it. She gave me all twenties, except for 2 tens. This place is pretty clean comparing to other foot massage places around this area. My mom and I always get the 90-min-massage at $37 with either Nancy or Sissy. They usually give amazing massages except my most recent visit. Because of her busy schedule, Sissy slacked off and rushed finishing up the massage so she could move on to her next client. These therapists work very hard and most of them are very professional and intuitive in reading what our bodies need. This place is the kind of "you get what you pay for" situation. Is it the most amazing massage I've ever had? No. Do you feel relaxed by the end of your massage? Yes. I go here when I don't want to spend a lot and just want someone to rub me for an hour. I would recommend (if you are a girl) wearing a tank top where you can put down the straps or even a strapless shirt because the massage therapists need to get to your shoulders. I always request a girl, I am just more comfortable being massaged by a female therapist. I've always been able to make a last-minute appointment here no problem. I've been meaning to write a review for this pace for a while. I've been to 4 different $20/hour foot spas and this is by far my favorite...it's also the furthest from my house but it is worth the extra drive. The chairs are comfy and the ambiance is peaceful. The room is sectioned off so it feels more private than other foot spas. The reception area is nice and separate from the massage area so noise isn't an issue. I've never had a bad massage here and I've had both male and female therapists. They do tend to have their strengths though.some are better at different areas. I usually don't specify any areas to focus on so they generally spend 5-10 minutes on an area which may be too short for others. But hey, you can always do the 90min massage for $30! This place is also awesome because when I was 9+ months pregnant and miserable, I was able to come here and feel human for an hour.
